ITunes closes when I plug in my iPod

Long ago I had photos saved on my iPod as disc use. Using the iTunes interface I tried to load those photos onto my iPod. This froze my iPod. Now every time I plug in my iPod, iTunes closes ("quit[s] unexpectedly"). My iPod works on other computers, both Macs and PCs with varying OSs and versions of iTunes; and my computer recognizes other iPods; so the problem seems to be between my specific computer and my specific iPod. I have re-installed iTunes using Pacifist an number of times and I have reset my iPod to factory settings a number of times. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks!
EA

That could be a damaged photo cache. If you try deleting the photo cache as per the following article, can you get the iPod/iTunes connection working properly again?

  • Itunes closes when I plug in my ipod shuffle. Any ideas what to do?

I have been using my shuffle with this computer for about 5 years now and haven't had a problem until today. Now when I plug in the shuffle using USB port itunes shuts down. It doesn't have this problem with our ipod touch. I tried a different cable but that didn't fix it.

I have downloaded the latest version of itunes but when i plug in my ipod it doesnt list any devices in itunes to enable me to choose my ipod to sync it. This morning i tried unistalling that (didn't think it would make any difference as the programme wasn't active) once uninstalled i pluged the ipod in and hey presto it is now recognised by itunes, THANK GOODNESS. So panick over for now, thank you very much.

  • ITunes quits when I plug in my iPod Nano

    Good day,
When I plug in my iPod nano, iTunes opens and starts to sync my iPod and then after about 6 secs iTunes closes unexpectedly. My iPod is no longer visible on my desktop even though it is still plug into my computer via a USB port.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and am still having the same problem.
I also tried to restore my iPod, but can't figure out how to do this without iTunes and I can't restore using iTunes because it keeps closing unexpectedly before I can complete the operation.
Any help would really be appreciated.
    thank you,
    Cedartable

Someone told me how to prevent my iPod from syncing when I plugged it into my iMac: go into Preferences in iTunes. Click on Devices. Tick the Prevent ipods ... from syncing automatically. Open iTunes. Plug in your ipod. Click on your iPod. Choose Restore.
I did a Restore and now my iPod is syncing just fine and iTunes is not closing unexpectedly. Yay.

  • Itunes freezes when I plug in my Ipod Touch - what should I do?

I know that this has been asked numerous times, but I haven't found a solution yet. The basics:
It was working fine yesterday, but when i plug in my ipod, itunes won't recognize it and it will freeze until I remove the ipod.
My 3rd gen ipod touch, when I try to access my music and videos (my photos are still there), just goes to a white screen.
After going to settings and about in my ipod, next to music and videos, it just says loading and won't do anything else.
I've reinstalled itunes and it has the latest update.
I've restarted my ipod many times.
I don't know what else to do. Everything else runs fine, the apps and internet connectivity is all great. Can someone please help me? This has been an absolutely terrible month and my ipod crashing is the icing on the cake from ****.

  • Itunes quits when I plug-in my ipod

    Hello,
After I did the software upgrade for itunes it quits when I plug-in my ipod. When the ipod is not connected, itunes works fine. As soon as I try to connect the ipod, itunes quits. Any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem. My Itunes works for about a minute and about 15-20 songs get downloaded onto my Ipod and then itunes quits unexpectedly. And just like you, all of my problems have started with the upgrade to Itunes 8.
I hope someone can help us with this problem! It's becoming really frustrating.

  • ITunes locks when I plug in my iPod Touch

I recently transferred my iTunes library and devices from my old notebook to my new PC. It worked fine. About 3 weeks later, I found that when I plug in my iPod Touch 3rd gen that iTunes would hang up if it was open. If I don't open iTunes, I can plug in the Touch and then start iTunes and it doesn't lock up and I can sync. The same seems to happen with my iPad.
I'm at a loss as to how to go about fixing this, or even how to debug it. I'm running iTunes 10.2.1.1 and both devices have IOS 4.2.1. It might have started happening after I upgraded to 10.2.1.1. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a quad-core machine with 8Gb of RAM.
Any suggestions? Should I start by uninstalling iTunes and re-installing?
    Thanks, Gary Berg

That had a link, a couple times removed, to how to reinstall iTunes. I followed that, and it is better, but not perfect. It appears to be linked to whether or not I've checked for new podcasts since I started iTunes.
So it's not a complete fix, but helped. Frankly, I wonder if it's a bug in this version of iTunes.

  • Why won't iTunes open when I plug in my iPod?

I plugged in my iPod, and if I already have iTunes open, I need to close it because it freezes. However, when I try to re-open iTunes, it will not open. I recently updated iTunes to 7.2 and I also updated my iPod software to the most current one. What should I do? I wanted to restore my iPod, because it kept skipping songs before, but now I can't even open up iTunes to restore my iPod. Please help .

Over time I've come across a number of posts concerning iTunes for Windows not opening. One conclusion from other Windows users that you might want to check out has been that it could be the result of malware on your PC. The advice has been to try scanning for malware with AVG Anti-Spyware, you'll find a free trial download at this link: ewido Networks

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in 80GB iPod classic

My 80GB iPod classic had been working flawlessly with my MacBook Pro until yesterday afternoon, when I plugged it in to sync and iTunes crashed with this error:
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000014
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, deleting my iTunes library file, and using another computer to restore my iPod to the factory settings all with the same result. I can sync my Nano to this computer still, and I can sync my Classic to other computers. This particular computer/iPod combo has gone wonky on me. I've wracked my brain trying to come up with any system changes prior to the sudden failure and I can't think of any.
This is a work machine and I have FileVault turned on per company policy. I can't take the machine to a Genius Bar since it's not mine, and while IT looks the other way on the matter of personal music on the work machine, I can't ask them for support since it's not a business necessity. Any ideas on how to solve? Am I out of luck on getting a replacement iPod since it syncs with other machines?

    RevDoddy,
If iTunes is crashing, why don't you send a crash log to those lazy Apple engineers.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log" If there's already a file there, it most likely has multiple crash logs in it (new crash logs are just appended to the end of the file). So, delete this file. This will make sure you're not sending extra information I don't need. These crash logs are text files, so you can open them in notepad or whatever to see what information you're sending.
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. You need to send that file to our buddy Roy. Make sure that you include:
    (1) the drwtsn32.log file.
    (2) the link to this thread.
    (3) a one line description of your problem, i.e. "iTunes crashes on launch".
    (4) the username that you're using here in the discussion boards.
    (5) the link to this thread.
    (6) tell him Toonz sent ya.
Roy is getting a little swamped with messages and needs to make sure he gets all the information. And if he doesn't get all this information, the message is just going to get dropped on the floor.

  • ITunes Hangs when I plug in my iPod Nano

I'm hoping someone can help. When I plug in my new iPod Nano, it shows up in iTunes, but iTunes hangs claiming it is Analyzing Track X of Y. It will do this for infinitely long without making any real progress. If I look under the event viewer, I get some mention of Hard Drive device failure, etc.
    Any clues? Thanks.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in my iPod 5.5G

I recently installed OS X 10.7.2, and iTunes 10.5. Now, whenever I plug my 80GB iPod 5.5G, iTunes will, "Quit Unexpectedly". If iTunes isn't open, and I plug my iPod in and then try to open iTunes, I get the same error message before iTunes loads. It seems to be an endless loop, and I can't sync any new music to my iPod.
    Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: I should add that I've tried restarting my Macbook Pro and my iPod multiple times

I have exactly the same problem with iTunes 10.5 and Snow Leopard.

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in my iPod

The problem started with iTunes 9.0.1.
My iPod was plugged into my PC and I was playing music from it when it just cut out half way through the song. I tried to bring up iTunes but it was non-responsive. I closed it, restarted my computer and tried again and incurred the same problem. As long as my iPod was plugged in I couldn't bring up iTunes, not even to unplug my iPod. After taking out my iPod it turned out that it had lost everything, no music, no videos nothing. Even weirder on the settings screen on my iPod it says 0KB free space.
I tried updating iTunes and got the same problem, iTunes would work fine until I tried to plug my iPod in after which it stopped responding. I tried reinstalling iTunes and still the same problem. I tried different USB ports and no luck. I tried plugging it in in Disk Mode, the iPod showed up on 'My Computer' but when I tried to access it 'My Computer' stopped responding. I know that the most likely answer is that my iPod is just fried but I'm holding out in the hope someone will have an answer.
Thanks in advance for all replies

  • Why is my itunes freezing when i plug in my ipod

I have one of the newer ipod touches and when I tried to put the newest update on it, everything went wrong. The newest update is on it, however, everytime I plug it into my computer itunes freezes. Ive tried everything that apple has told me to do.

Try the following (these are separate suggestions):
    Restart the computer.
Reset the iPod using the two button combo.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If those actions do not help, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then connecting to computer. If iTunes can now access the iPod without freezing, you should use Restore to erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software. Then you can set it up and re-sync your songs.
