Itunes closes when trying to restore ipod

My ipod keeps skipping songs so trying to restore it but when i do itunes closes down what do i do

Did the problem start after installing Windows 7 SP1, there have been numerous reports of iTunes freezing connected in some way with USB.
I don't have a solution at the moment although it might be possible to find more with Google.
Some people have resorted to uninstalling SP1.
Here is an example of what can be found:

  • ITunes freezes when trying to restore ipod

    Hi guys
At the moment whenever i plug my ipod in itunes says it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored.
Once i restore it and the ipod resets though, itunes freezes completely and wont shut down from task manager.
To open it again I need to restart the entire computer but when I try again it goes back to the start and is just going around in loops.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

  • Itunes closes when trying to transfer purchases from ipod or iphone

Using a PC with Vista.  Installed iOS 5 this morning.  Cannot update either ipod touch 3g or iphone 3g with software update until "prior purchases are transferred to itune" - unfortunately every time I try to "transfer the prior purchases" Itunes closes completely.  I've been working on this for hours now.  Anyone got any ideas how to get around this?
    Thanks.

Your Post is a bit confusing

If you are using iTunes, you cant transfer purchases in the iPod to the Mac, you need 3rd Party Software.

  • Itunes freezes when trying to sync ipod

this started to happen when i had to re-install itunes because they deleted all my content. it was the old version anyways, so i installed the latest version. now, whenever i connect the ipod into my computer and itunes detects it, itunes freezes and my new content doesn't get synced. the battery sign on my ipod shows that it's connected, but itunes doesn't respond to anything i do. Only after i disconnect my ipod does itunes start working again. any suggestions?

My 80GB ipod and itunes also freeze during sync. I tried resetting ipod, had Best Buy restore ipod, and have an extended warranty with Best Buy-they sent in my ipod and I got a replacement ipod. I have already checked my anti-virus and have scanned my computer for any problems, which none came up. So my laptop and ipod are good. Did not have any problems with ipod or itunes until I got the new update for itunes 9.2. The problem is with itunes updates, now I have an ipod with no music and cannot sync my music back into it. If they can't fix this, I will get rid of this ipod and never buy any apple products ever again.

  • Itunes freezes when trying to insert IPOD

    Hello all,
We are trying to restore a click shell IPOD (+ HP). When Itunes is running and the IPOD is inserted in the base attached via USB to the computer (Dell D620), Itunes freezes thus preventing the restoration. I have tried to deinstall Itunes and reinstall but no luck. Any ideas?

Since no one has replied to my requests, I will reply to myself.
It turns out that the IPOD may have had really bad stiction.
I got it restored using the origninal HP+IPOD CD installer. But then when trying to get all 485 songs downloaded in Itunes it got to about 147 and hung. So, I "carefully" tapped the sides of the IPOD actually harder than many times before. I then did a soft reset on the IPOD and started to download the 485 songs again from Itunes. This time it worked with no problems. Now, the question is whether it will hold up this time or start "sticking" again.

  • Getting an error when trying to restore iPod Touch 2g

When I'm trying to restore my iPod touch 2g, I keep getting the following error:
An error occured while restoring this iPod (-402620415).
I called support but my phone support warranty has run out and I don't want to pay $30 to have this problem looked at. The lady on the phone even said she's never heard of this problem before. Does anyone know anything about this?

have you seen this support article ?

  • ITunes hangs when trying to restore

I've got a 30GB video iPod that is formatted for Windows and half of the tracks on my iPod simply don't show up in the iPod interface. So I went to restore it on my Mac (10.4.10 PPC) using iTunes 7.4.2(4) and when I click restore it unpacks the firmware and then hangs. I get the spinning rainbow ball, a pegged CPU, and nothing else happening. Leaving it for days has not changed its state. If I try to select all of the tracks on my iPod and delete them, the same thing occurs -- pegged CPU, spinning rainbow ball, and nothing happening on disk. Resets of the iPod have not helped. How can I restore my iPod or at least get it so I can manage my library again?

Thanks for the pointer to the KB article. Error 1 is missing from the list provided by iTunes (more information), but I was afraid it means hardware. Will try on another computer, but I'm afraid the phone is sick.
    Thanks,
    Manfred

  • Error when trying to restore ipod nano

I think my Mac Os system is current enough (10.3.9) but whenever i try to restore the ipod it says: Cannot restore ipod because it is in use. Close all open files on ipod and try again. How do i close all open files in the ipod? I've tried to reset it and everything but keep getting the same result.

Do you mean restart my computer? If so, I've already done that! If not, how do i reboot my computer. Any other suggestions...thanks for your help.

  • ITunes error when trying to Sync iPod?

Whenever I try to Sync my iPod to my iTunes, I get an error saying "Attempting to copt to the disk "Swing's iPod" failed. An Unknown error occurred (-53)" Now I thought it was my iPod, so I restored it and tried again. Nothing happened. Then I thought it was iTunes, so I uninstalled and reinstalled and updated. I still get this Error. Any ideas anyone? This is some frustrating stuff!
    Thanks,

  • When trying to restore ipod it says ipod is not mounted.

Ok, i had a similar problem with my computer not seeing my iPod, well i managed to get that fixed and while itunes was putting the music back onto my iPod the computer crashed. When i open the updater to return it to factory settings the updater said iPod is not mounted, i can see the iPod in the drive and on my computer, so it is mounted, does anyone know of any solution, i have tried changing drive letters which made it so it shows my ipod in my computer but otherwise it wont work, itunes also says it cannot read some of the files on the iPod so i have to return it to factory settings and try again. Please HELP!!!
    Thankyou in advance!!

You are dangerously low on disk space.  If you disk fills up much more you may not be able to reboot the system.  You should maintain 15 to 20 GB of free space.
For hints on how to create more free disk space see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5725554?tstart=60 .

  • ITunes freezing when trying to synch iPod?

I'm using Windows Vista, I've had the iPod Classic 80gb for a couple months now with no problem, but last night and this morning whenever I try to connect the iPod itunes just freezes all together and will not synch, I can use it without the ipod connected, but if I start itunes up with the ipod already connected I can't even use it.
So far I've tried rebooting, reinstalling itunes, and restoring my system back to Thursday and still nothing works, I did notice it downloaded a new driver for the iPod is that it? otherwise what can I do to get it working again?

Urbandmythx has an excellent suggestion. First try unplugging ALL devices except keyboard, mouse and iPod and see if it acts any differently.
Next, you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes without lock up...
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Finally, I assume Vista has some sort of "Safe Mode" you can boot into? Try that and then connect the iPod. If it does not freeze up, that would rule out a hardware issue somewhere and instead point to a software or driver conflict of some sort.
    Good luck,
    Patrick
