ITunes compains my Ipod is synced with other computer - bollocks?

When to sync my ipod today and get an error message. It says my iPod is synced with another iTunes library. Now iTunes itself is suddenly a blank slate - though all my files appear to be intact and in place. I am given the option to Erase and Sync (that is erase all my files from ipod) and sync to NOTHING, or Transfer all purchased files to this computer (but not all my personal stuff I imported!!!).
Any idea what has happened and how to resolve?? I have really done nothing, except perhaps upgrade iTunes??
Many thanks...

If all your songs still in the usual folder(s) on your computer try holding down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • My itunes erroneously says that my ipod is synced with another computer when I try to sync. What can I do to fix this?

First, right after updating my iTunes to the latest version, my iTunes will not display album covers. It says exactly "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer." It has never been an issue before, but, anyway... that is where it all started.
Then I read a bunch of Apple Support topics on the subject, and it directed me to replace my library file with a previous library file. So, I did, and now, not only will my albums not display, but my iPod Touch will not sync with my computer, the only computer I have ever used it on. It says that the ipod is synced with another library and asks me if I want to erase and sync (I have my music on my computer, but I will lose all of my apps and such).
What can I do to resolve this? Thanks for the help.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • My iPod is locked so it's telling me to login to iTunes but I can't sync with any computer.

I just put on a new passcode on my iPod yesterday and I forgot the passcode for it. I kept trying what I remembered of it in any way I thought possible but it was never the correct passcode. I tried once more and now it says "iPod is disabled - connect to iTunes", but no computers will sync with my iPod. can anyone help me?

    Hi Kimberly,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the wrong passcode was entered multiple times on your iPad 2 which is now disabled, and you’re running into an issue restoring it. The article linked below  provides more information about the iPad is disabled alert and will walk you through resolving the issue.

  • Itunes runs slowly-  thinks my ipod is sync with another computer

So I made the major mistake of upgrading to Itunes 7.6. What did i get - an unusable media player and messages if I wish to erase all my music (4 gig) from my ipod since it is sync with another computer. Well -Apple it is not -it is the same computer - same music - same everything. Oh, did i tell you it erased all my playlists, podcasts and now - if i can ever get it to work- I have to recreate everything. On top of it - I can't do that even if I wanted to since whenever itunes loads it stops -uses 100% of my system resources - and i have no choice but to manually stop it. I was buying the Apple kool-aid and was thinking of buying an apple laptop but if this is an example of their product and software development I will pass.
So sorry for the rant but does anyone have any ideas - I would just toss it the piece of junk but it has my daughter's name engraved.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • I lost my itunes that my ipod was synced with how do i get to sync to my new one without losing all my songs

i lost my itunes that my ipod was synced too.....i got a new itunes now so how do i sync my ipod without losing all my music

    Transfer iTunes purchases by:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_USiTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - To retain app data and other information, connect the iPod to yur computer and make a backup by right clciking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the Backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

  • ITunes Msg re "iPod is synced with another iTunes Library"

We have two computers, two iPod shuffle (2nd Gen). We had a HD failure and lost the iTunes Library that was synced with One of the shuffles. The other shuffle is ok with iTunes. My question is that I don't want to lose the loaded songs already on the shuffle that is not recognized by iTunes (iTunes asks my to erase that iPod and sync it with the iTunes Library that is available). So how do I save those songs and how to I get iTunes to recognize that Library so I can add to the Library??

I am having the same problem. I cant see any replies to this, but indicates there was one...can someone post solution again?

  • This iPhone/iPod is synced with another computer. Erase and sync with computers library?

    Hello Apple Users,
I've hated this problem ever since my mom got an iPod and then the rest of my family started getting Apple products. As of now, I have an iPhone 5C (7.0.4 going to 7.0.6 soon, Green), my Mom: iPhone 5C (7.0.4 soon 7.0.6), my Dad: iPhone 5C (7.0.4 soon 7.0.6). I've had an iPod for about 3 years now and still using it to multitask. I was connected to my parents' Apple ID until I created my own.
Once I created my own, got my own computer and the stuff like that, I decided to sync my iPhone 5C. Yet, when I try I get this:
This only happens with the following when trying to sync:
    •Tones (Any Tone)
    •Music (Any Selection)
    •Movies (Any Selection)
    •TV Shows (Any Selection)
I really need to fix this. It's ridiculous. What should happen is:
Once synced, it creates a folder (Preferably either in Program Files/Program Files (x86), or AppData somewhere) named "Synced iDevices". Click it, it'll have your iDevices Model Number or something, or your iDevice (iPod #G/iPhone #G etc.). And It's basically a "Library" as iTunes calls it. If you delete it, then it's considered "un-synced" and you can re-sync again if you want. This could also be a feature in iTunes.
Feedback is always appreciated! Thanks for reading!
    Regards, OptimalVorteX
P.S.: I won't be on the Forums after this because im going to a hockey game! I'll try to get on my phone if it isn't dead though!

Yeah dude screw apple. I hate apple. All apple wants to do is control the world.
    Im stuck in a loop:
    1. I Click "Back Up Now"
    2. It says, "Authorize or else, 12 apps and their data will be deleted from this iPhone".
    3. I click "Authorize" (keep in mind, It's already authorized)
    4. Then, it makes me authorize my parents Apple ID/Computer (which is also authorized).
    5. I type in the password and click "Authorize".
    6. It says, "5/5 computers are already Authorized with this Apple ID".
Well lets see: We have 3 computers, my brother, my parents, and my own. My brother doesn't even have an Apple ID, iTunes, or any iDevice. So, we're down to 2 computers. My parents have their own Apple ID. I have my own Apple ID. Now remember it made my authorize my parents Apple ID/Computer? Well why? And if the iDevices count, that's 2 iDevices, and a Computer (my parents). That's 3. My Computer = 4 (BUT ITS AUTHORIZED WITH MY DANG APPLE ID). So really, it's actually 3.
Sorry for the horrible description, guys. If you want it more simple, then I can do that. In the meantime, thanks for helping me out, and I'll be writing Apple a 3 star review.
    Regards, Vortex.

  • Ipad sync with PC when setup now want to sync with other computer

    HEllo.
I bought my mom a iPAD 2 and set with her PC and the itunes on her PC.
Now I have the iPAD and need to sysnc with my family accouant.
I can not lose the pictures i took with the ipad.
    What do i  do ?

Not entirely sure about iPhoto as I don't have a mac, but when syncing from folder(s) only the contents of the most recent sync will be on the iPad - but I assume that iPhoto will be the same and will therefore remove the previous sync before putting the ones on. He also won't be able to copy them off before syncing as you can only do that with photos loaded via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websties.
This article has some general info on syncing photos http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

  • Ever since I downloaded the new version of iTunes, my iPhone won't sync with the computer. It doesn't even show up.

I downloaded the updated version of iTunes. Ever since then, my iphone won't even come up as a device. Everytime I plug it in, something comes up asking me do I want to trust this computer on my phone.. I've been using this computer for my iphone downloads and stuff for about 6 months now. I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else since the update and is there any solutions?

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct?  Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order?  Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver.  If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details).  When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.
There are more details in the manual for the 3rd gen shuffle, which is online here
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_3rdGen_UG.pdf
See page 22 for the section about setting up and using VoiceOver.  The part about switching playlists starts on page 23 (Using the Playlist Menu).

  • My iTunes is suddenly saying both my iPod & iPhone are synced with another computer, which they have not been.

I recently lost all of the music from my laptop's hard drive, and therefore from i-Tunes.  I still have all of my music on my iPhone (3GS) (and a smaller version on my iPod Touch (3)), however when I try to sync them iTunes says the devices are synced with another computer & the only options I have is to erase the iPhone/iPod & sync with the very little music that has been able to be recovered back into iTunes, or to transfer the purchases.  I have checked the computer is authorised for my iTunes account, and have transferred the purchases back.  I really don't want to have to reload my CDs on when they are all on other devices.
Does anyone know why iTunes is suddenly not recognising devices it did previously, and how I get it to recognise them again?  And most importantly, how I can transfer the music on my iPhone/iPod back into the laptop's iTunes?

The music was accidentally deleted as I was cleaning up my SafeSync account (like a Cloud) & I unwittingly deleted My Documents & My Music from my hard drive as I did so - these are the only files that were affected.  So no catastrophic issue apart from me not knowing what I'm doing.
And IT guy performed a recovery for me but was only able to retrieve about 10% of my documents and only 45 songs of the 1700 or so I had.  There is no up to date back up of my computer - trust me I've learnt a lesson there.
Since then iTunes doesn't recognise my devices as being synced to that computer, but there is no other computer for them to be synced to so I don't understand how this happened or how to fix it.  I understand that my devices aren't back ups, but it seems stupid to lose the 1700 songs I have on my iPhone.  I have transferred the purchases, but the majority of them are songs I've loaded from CDs & obviously it would be a very time consuming process to try to reload all of them - obviously something I would like to avoid if possible.

  • Something happened to my iTunes and now it says synced with another library

Something happened to iTunes and it cleared out everything I had in there.
When I plug in my ipod it says "the ipod is synced with another iTunes library do you want to erase this ipod and sync with iTunes library". iTunes seems to recognize my ipod, but iTunes is empty of all of my files. Everything is still on my ipod but not in iTunes.
My ipod is synced to my computer only. I have no idea what happened to iTunes.
Is there any way to get all the previous files back that were stored in iTunes or do I have to re-load everything?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

  • How to i get my ipod to sync to original computer, someone plugged it in to a different computer and now it wont sync anything to the original

Having trouble getting ipod to sync with original computer,it was plugged in to laptop and sync to it but all my music and things are on desktop, and now it wants to sync with only laptop. How do i get to sync back with desktop?

If everything (music and apps) are on the desktop, just connect the iPod to the desktop and :
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod if you want to set up the iPod as a new one.
    - If you want to retain the apps daa and setting currently on the iPod, right click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPOd from that backup
    - You can also restore the iPod from a previous backup you have onthe Desktop if you want.
