ITunes Completely Freezing XP

I'm running Windows XP SP3 on and LG E500 and it has recently started freezing my entire computer. I can't even open task manager and I have to resort to holding the power button on my laptop to shut it down.
I have reinstalled Windows on my computer as well as iTunes/Quicktime. I've tried adding music now and it freezes as it is processing songs. I've tried adding batches of songs but it eventually freezes when processing one of the batches that I add.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone knows how to fix it.

I was adding around 50 - 100 songs at a time then was slowly adding larger batches and it eventually froze. But whenever I try to open iTunes it freezes.
This was also happenning before when I had all my songs in my library (about 6000). They are all on a local HDD but I will try installing iTunes on the same drive that my music is on.

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

  • ITunes completely freezes computer

I just downloaded the newest version of ITunes, 7.1. I am still experiencing the same problem as I did with 7.0.2. Here is the description:
I open ITunes and import a CD. It imports fine, but completely freezez up the ITunes program. Under task manager, it says "Not Responding." If I only exit ITunes and try again, I get the same thing, only I can't import a CD. The whole program is frozen. It also tends to freeze my entire computer. The only resolution to continue on is to restart my computer.
I called Apple support once before and they had me restore the ITunes program. Never helped.
Has anyone else had this? If so and you have corrected the problem, please let me know...in simple easy instructions. I am not illiterate, but not a computer geek either!
    Help!!!

    Hey maxsmom,
This is the link to the MSCONFIG article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538 you were walked through.
    From the article:
"If following these steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one or a few at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict. You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to recur."
Basically your computer has software that is individual to your computer, whatever you, the other users, and manufacturer installed. To find the application that is causing the conflict youll have to enable the startup apps/services one at a time until you find the one thats causes the problem when its turned back on.
After you find the software thats causing the confllict you can disable it or reconfigure it.

  • ITunes completely freeze

Hello, i'm a windows 8.1 user and i have an iPhone 5. When i connect the iPhone to the computer to load songs on it iTunes crash.. or better:
    1) i open iTunes
    2) i connect the iPhone
    3) iTunes doesn't respond, no message but simply i can't do anything, i can't reduce to icon, i can't play song from the computer because i can select nothing from the iTunes window.. And if, for example, iTunes is already reduced to icon and i connect the iPhone i can't see the window if i click on the icon..
When i go on task manager:
iTunes is 32bit (i installed 64) followed by "not responding" (all the application i run are 32bit, but i have a x64 os and i have installed them with a 64bit installer)
i tried many times to reinstall it but i always have the same error
    What should i do?
P.S. after 10 minutes itunes find the iphone but it freeze again:

    Many thanks!
That combination of symptoms (where iTunes freezes when a device is connected and also freezes when attempting to open the iTunes preferences), has been responding well to a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components (Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, etc ...) and then a reinstall.
Use the instructions from the following document:

  • ITunes completely freezes when I plug in my iPod Touch

    Hi...
I just got an iPod Touch 8GB for Xmas. Its been working great since I got it, but just started to not work with iTunes. iTunes has not brought me any problems, either. Both work great, but when they are "together", iTunes freezes.
When it's not plugged in, I can access everything in iTunes, but when I plug it in, it freezes, and end up having to go through the whole CtrlAltDel process. I cant update software, music or video to my iPod.
I have done everything. Restarted both my computer and iPod. I reinstalled iTunes. It is charged. I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO!
If anyone could troubleshoot this for me or it's happened/happening to you, please post a reply. iTunes is in it's most current version (8.0.2.20), and everything else is up to date.
    Thanks

  • ITunes Store freeze while downloading and now permanent problems

I bought an album through the iTunes Store today, and while downloading, iTunes completely froze. Not sure how that freeze was caused, could be that I was using up a little too many system resources with other stuff running in the background.
In any case, the album was only partially downloaded, so when I restarted iTunes I used the "search for available downloads" option to succesfully download the rest of the album, or so I thought. Turns out it did download all songss except for one, and that one doesn't show up anymore when I retry the "available downloads" option.
Strangely, whenever I now select one of the other songs from the same album in my library, iTunes completely freezes! I can only get it working again by stopping the process through taskmanager and restarting. This only occurs when the Genius-bar is shown, so it looks like looking up these songs through the iTunes store is causing a problem somehow. Does anyone have any ideas to
    a) get the missing song from the store and
    b) keep iTunes from crashing??
Is there a way to deinstall and reinstall iTunes without losing my settings, iPhone backups and library? Or can I repair an installed version somehow?
(I have the most recent iTunes version (8.0.1.11), running on WinXP SP3 - oh and it did synch the incomplete album to my iPhone and I can play the songs without problems on that)

Deleting the album, reinstalling iTunes and then re-downloading the album turned out to be the way to fix it.

  • ITunes 7 freezing

I have a problem in that my new iTunes keeps freezing. After about 5 minutes it will just completely freeze, and it won't come right. I have to close it then open it again, but it just freezes again. Any suggestions? I am not running anything else that would cause it to do this.

Just adding on to what I just posted, it is just afer I have imported songs onto my ipod that it freezes. The songs do complete going onto my ipod, but the second after iTunes completely freezes.

  • ITunes & WMP freeze when importing 2nd CD

Sorry if this is repetitive, but haven't got this figured out yet. At first I thought it was just iTunes, but i've found that WMP 11 also freezes. I am able to import an initial CD without a problem, but when I put in the next one to rip/import, my computer completely freezes and I have to power off/on to get it started again. I've tried many suggestions in this and other forums with no luck. I also contaced Gateway computer support which didn't help. Any suggestions are grealy appreciated. Here's the diagnostics:

For anyone who may be having this same problem, I may have found a work-around! I still don't know what's causing the problem, but maybe this will give someone out there a clue to solve it. I have found a way to import consecutive CD's without the freeze-up. Try following these steps:
    1) Import the first CD (no problems)
    2) Eject the CD and CLOSE iTunes
    3) Load the next CD into the drive BEFORE opening iTunes
    4) Open iTunes and the CD imports without a problem!
Haven't tried to see if this works around the same problem I was having with WMP yet, but suspect it does. So it appears that the problem may be with the drive or program not being able to 'reset' after importing the first CD??? Hope this helps someone figure out the root of the problem, and in the mean time hopefully you can at least get your music onto your pod without having to power off/on after every CD!

  • Purchased movie sync-back to iTunes causes Freeze

iTunes consistently freezes while transferring a purchased movie from the Apple TV to the iTunes Library during a sync. iTunes always freezes at the same point in the transfer, and is 100% repeatable. In fact, I have not been able to to use iTunes since making this movie purchase on the Apple TV.

The transfer consistantly fails about 25% completion. Not sure of the exact %, but the bar always stops at the same position.
There is no failure message. iTunes begins to consume 100% CPU utilization, and must be force quit. It is unresponsive.
This was the first purchase made since upgrading to v2.3.
I have restarted both my MacBook, and the Apple TV with no change in results.
I am unable to use iTunes because it freezes (see above) as soon as it finds the Apple TV on the network and begins to transfer the purchased movies to the iTunes Library.

  • ITunes suddenly freezes when iPhone connected

I'm running the latest MAC os X, iTunes on a power mac G5 and all of a sudden, whenever i connect the iPhone, i get the beachball and activity monitor tells me itunes is not responding. I disconnected phone and changed the setting in iTunes to NOT automatically sync when connected, but even then as soon as i plug it in, iTunes says it's "verifying" the phone...the phone says "Sync in Progress" and everything is hung... Any help would be so appreciated, I've looked in the forum and have not found this exact problem... Thanks.

I never had any postcards on the iphone, only on the ipod. Deleted all. Removed iTunes completely. Deleted library. Installed iTunes again. Works fine (well, in apple terms) till the iPhone gets connected. Then it freezes.
Another question, if anyone knows, do the garbage-makers Apple provide any direct support, or is it all through I-have-the-same-problem-too boards where one can (possibly) get any clues what the problem is?
    thanks,

  • Itunes completely messed up...

i tried searching through threads to find this but no luck, so hopefully somewhere can answer or help me here.
im having a MESS load of problems with my itunes since i reformatted my computer. i reinstalled the newest version many times, updated my ipod many times but still nothing...
either i open my itunes and it completely Freezes and i have to exit the program. or i get it to load fine, but its not recognizing my ipod...so i will restart my computer untill it recognizes the ipod..
once i get it to recognize my ipod, my itunes either A) freezes as soon as i try to update my ipod or B) says Updating Ipod...but only flashes the update really quick, and doesnt update anything onto my ipod..
ive never heard of people having this many problems, i really dont know what else to do
anyone heard of all these problems?

    Hey try this:
Turn Norton 2005's Personal Firewall OFF, (turn it OFF Permanently until your ready to turn it back on) then click CONFIGURE.
Under the PROGRAMS tab remove any reference to Apple iTunes or iTunes or iTunes Helper Module or anything related. and reboot.
After coming back go back to Norton 2005's Personal Firewall, click CONFIGURE. Under the PROGRAMS tab click ADD at the bottom, a SELECT A PROGRAM
window will pop up. Add the following files one at a time, iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, QuickTimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe, QTInfo.exe. The last 3 are found
in your Quicktime folder where that is in your system. Click OK. Turn Norton 2005's Personal Firewall ON, and try starting iTunes again.
This worked for me. It seems the Quicktime files were never automatically entered into my Norton 2005's Personal Firewall allowable programs listing. Adding them
manually should help. I also noticed that from my previous version of iTunes the program listed in the Firewall was named Apple iTunes and not iTunes after I upgraded to 6.
Let me know if this works out.

  • Itunes constantly freezing and not allowing me to sign out

i'm on windows7. I recently updated itunes to a later version an i have been hassling with freezing "not responding" ever since. I have also linked my itunes to my old Account whih was set up while i was in a different country. I have been trying to create a new account linked with my new location, but Itunes keeps freezing whenever i try to sign out of my existing account. any idea on what would be causing this and how can i sort it out?

    Hi,
I think you'll have to reinstall iTunes completely. First, to delete iTunes completely, use an app such as AppCleaner. Then, install iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

  • ITunes is freezing when it opens

Recently, my iTunes began freezing whenever it is opened. I have a video (that I made myself) that is loaded onto my iPod and some parts of it appear to have been lost. When iTunes is started a box pops up saying it cannot find a particular clip. I have attempted to delete the movie several times as I have it stored on DVD but I can't get past this section. The program completely freezes and becomes unresponsive. Help! I can't purchase new songs or update my iPod until I can get the program to work again.

I have a 2G iPod touch and just last week I downloaded iTunes version 8.0.2, and now itunes freezes. I just tried opening it, and it was frozen. I thought it was just doing it when I connected my iPod the USB. Is this the problem you're having? Has anyone figured out what's going on? I'm totally not computer savvy, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks
