ITunes completely locks up my MBP

I am a semi-experienced user with Mac but this gets the best of me.
I have iTunes set to Cover Flow because it makes it easier to scroll through my CDs. I'm not sure if it could be a problem with that or not.
Randomly while I'm scrolling through music, sometimes my entire computer will lock up (besides the mouse/cursor). I also found that I could still brighten/dim the screen. I tried all the quit application commands that I could think of but nothing worked. So I decided to close the screen to my MBP and reopen it to see if it refreshed or something. Nothing.
The screen goes completely black when I do that and I have to force shutdown my computer...
I also found that if I do the same things in the same order it always happens. For instance, I am trying to get to a band in iTunes (We Came With Broken Teeth) so I type in "we came with" in the search bar. Then, when I click on the album art to change CDs, the lock up happens. This happens every time I try that in that exact order (well the past 3-4 times anyway... I gave that up so I wouldn't have to restart anymore).
I know it's not a problem specific to a certain band or CD though because it has done it to other bands/albums randomly as well.
I know it's probably just an iTunes glitch with Leopard or something that will just have to wait for a new patch but any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I hadn't had my new MBP two days and it began locking up on me in this exact same way. I'm a "switcher" and this is my first experience with an Apple computer and it is really ******* me off. I had no problems with iTunes on my Dell laptop. For whatever reason my new MBP didn't recognize the cover art I imported with all my music files. I would be attempting to "get cover art" and then my MBP locks up.
Is this an issue I can bring up at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store? Can I get a new MBP because obviously this one is defective? I so badly wanted to like my first MBP but this is not helping the situation. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. What recourse can I take with Apple? I purchased the ProCare. Does that get me extra help with Apple?

    Recently, a friend of mine who had my iPod touch at the time was playing around with it, just basically messing with random settings. He set a passcode made up of random numbers in the process, neither of us know the combination. We made a few guesses to try to unlock it, but now, whenever I turn the iPod on, it displays "iPod is disabled connect to iTunes" however, when I connect to iTunes, it tells me that I have to enter the passcode in before it can be recognized. Could someone please help me?

    Download RecBoot and see if that will kick it out of recovery mode.
    Try doing a manual install following the instructions in the link below.

  • IDVD locks up my MBP during burning.

    Everytime I try and burn a disk or create a disk image, my MBP locks up during the menu processing. It doesn't happen in the same place either. I don't get any errors or warnings, I just look over and see all the processing has stopped and I'm completely locked out of everything. I'm using iDVD '08 vers7.0.1 Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply. And no, I haven't run the graphics updater because I never knew about it. I ended up moving the project to my iMac and it burned successfully. However, I need to figure this problem out because the MBP will be my main computer. As for the graphics updater, will software update find it?

  • Finder completely locks up

    Hey everyone,
    Every couple of days I will be working on my new MBP Unibody and I will go to apple tab and all of a sudden my dock, top bar is completely locked up and will do nothing; I cannot apple tab as well. All of my other applications are responsive and such but the finder is not. This also leads to me not being able to use the force quit at all. When I try to log out OR restart my computer the dock never disappears and I have to eventually hold down my power button on my laptop. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks for your time.

    Kyle I am having the same issue and it started today.
    I have deleted the finder pref file and have zapped the PRAM 3 times. Running /sbin/fsck -fy right now to check the system. Then going to reboot as normal.
    Upon restart my machine will behave 'normally' for about 20 minutes and then the finder bar disappears and force-quit produces a blank window of apps. The apps 'work' kind of, but I need to click on anything to get it to come to front.
    Also the keyboard will not let me type any characters at all.
    This is REALLY frustrating. We shall see what happnens but wanted to share that you are not alone in this one. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • ITunes 11 locking up when video library is selected

    iTunes 11 is completely locking up my PC when I try to view the video library; viewing and navigating songs, artists, and playlists is not a problem.  After selecting the video library, the  only way to get out of the app is to shut it down with the Task Manager.  PC is running Vista on a Centrino Duo CPU.  The iTunes library resides on a NAS drive.
    Thoughts, anyone?

    Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
    Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
    Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
    Connect your Ipod to the PC
    When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
    When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
    Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
    When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
    If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.

  • Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz DP often completely locks up in the first few minutes after booting, sometimes with the spinning beach ball, normally with a very high pitched whining noise.

    Over the last few months my Mac has developed a worrying habit.
    Within the first few minutes of starting it up (perhaps on average about 50% of the time) it will completely lock up. This may happen at the Log In screen (if I start up the Mac & then leave it for a while) or during normal use.
    Often the first symptom is a very high pitched (but quiet) whining noise that seems to come from the loud speaker on the front of the Mac. The pointer may freeze at this point, or it may still be moveable for 5 or 10 seconds before it freezes. It sometimes turns into the spinning beach ball during this. Once locked up the only way I can restart the Mac is to hold down the power button on the front for a few seconds to completely reboot the machine.
    Once the Mac has restarted, it usually behaves normally, almost always for the rest of the day. The initial lock up & resulting restart only normally seem to happen the first time I use the Mac that day.
    The only peripherals attached to the Mac (apart from the display, keyboard & mouse) are an ADSL modem, a USB printer and a pair of Apple Pro speakers, and this setup hasn't changed since long before the problems started, so I'm confident that I can discount the peripherals causing problems. I doubt that unplugging the speakers, for example, would have any effect.
    I've run Disc Utility, OnyX and DiscWarrior without anything major cropping up. My instincts (I've been troubleshooting Mac problems for 16 years) tell me that I have a fundamental hardware problem, possibly with one of the 4 RAM DIMMs installed.
    The RAM configuration is shown in the attached screen grab.
    I'm considering removing one DIMM, running with 1.5GB of RAM rather than 2GB for a while, and repeating with a different DIMM removed each time until I can hopefully isolate the dodgy DIMM.
    Do people feel this is a sensible approach, or should I try something else first?

    Sometimes visual inpection will show bulging tops/sides., my guess is if it is it's most likely in the PSU.

    You don't get it to work. You can not bypass the activation lock. Do you not know who you bought it from? Talk to them. If they can't give you the credentials to unlock it, get your money back. The phone is useless.

    Even after uninstalling the .itl file remained in my itunes music folder. I deleted this file after uninstalling again and then reinstalled and the issue was resolved.

  • Every time when Firefox is minimized and I tab into it I can't use it. It's completely locked. Is there a way to fix this?

    Every time when Firefox is minimized to the tray and I open it up again i can't use it until I click on a tab that's not focused or on the search field with the mouse. It's completely locked, I can't press ctrl+1/2/3 etc to change tab or ctrl+e to go to search. Last time everything worked like it should was on release 3.5.14
    Is there a way to fix this?
    Edit: I've tried reinstalling Firefox and gotten a new profile, that didn't help.
    Edit2: Updated to 3.6.9 and I still have the problem.
    Edit3: Just installed 3.6.11, the problem is still there.
    I can't understand how 3.5.14 can work and not a singel release after that.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
    If still problem that indicates you have a bad headphone jack.
    Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. Likely not worth it for your old 2G iPod

    If you pull out the power cord from the rear of the printer and then reconnect it, does it go to the same error state?
    If you have this plugged into a power strip, connect it directly to a wall outlet.

    I tried to sign out and back in but the complete list still doesn't show up. My apple ID is common amongst all my devices and I'm not having any other problem with any other aspect of iCloud services - they all work find from iphone to mcp to atv...
    its just this little thing! it wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't have to delete reminders from the completed list one at a time on my iPhone.
    can you recommend anything else?
