ITunes Confusion

I store my iTunes Library on a separate disk on my Mac Pro and an external disk on my Mac mini server. iTunes no longer organizes my music into the Music sub-folder under iTunes Media. It now re-locates the artist folder into the iTunes Media folder. I have "Keep iTunes Media... organized" and "Copy file to..." checked, as I always have. I have tried resetting the iTunes Media folder location by hand and even creating an entirely new library to no avail. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

doing that sets things back to the default folder, which would store the media on my startup disk. i'm storing my media on an external drive in both cases. the problem is where the music is being sent when importing.

  • Dual users = iPad & iTunes confusion, now can't update podcasts

    Hello Apple Community:
I bought a first-gen iPad, and my wife connected it into her Macbook while she was signed in to her iTunes account, in order to give me some her iPhone apps.  As a result, the iTunes on the iPad initially logged in with her user info.
Since then, I have subsequently connected my iPad to her Macbook, but sometimes while I was logged into my iTunes account on the iPad, and sometimes while she was logged into her iTunes account on the the iPad.
For lack of a better phrase, I feel like this has resulted in some Macbook iTunes confusion, and she is now constantly seeing pop-ups asking her to authorize her iTunes account on her Macbook, when she already has, and now she cannot update her podcasts.  (I'm sure there are some other issues we are not seeing as well.)
Is there anyway to remove all traces of my usage from her Macbook iTunes account, so that there is no overlap between users?
    Thanks!

You could try starting totally anew...
Before wiping your iTunes account off, restore your iPad as a new device. That will take everything off your iPad (Should do the same with iTunes)
So no account, no device. Then you can go about re-doing you're own library for your device.
However I've not had a chance to test this myself, so can't comment on it's success. An Apple expert should be able to help if you're in need of better advice than mine

  • Why did iTunes confuse my existing iPad and my new iPad?

I synced my new iPad to my Mac and specified that I didn't want music to sync. That appeared to work ok. I then synched my existing iPod Touch to the the mac and iTunes deleted music. I ultimately reloaded it all but now I'm concerned about syncing again. How can I prevent this confusion from happening? I also just upgrade iTunes but haven't yet installed IOS5 on the other devices.

I guess I should have included a little more info:
    1. I only have 1 appleID
    2. I only have 1 apple device (the one iphone, nothing else)
    3. I only sync on one computer (VERY annoying you cant use more than 1!!)
    4. I never have any other problems during syncing and don't change any settings
    5. I downloaded the app again so it is back.
I am not asking how to get the app back, I just want to know WHY itunes deleted this app. This is the second or 3rd time it has happened and it is really annoying.
I also would like to get my files back. So again, I'd like to know why itunes deleted the app and if it deleted my files as well.
The most important part of this is to find out WHY this happened so that it wont happen again. It seems to be a pretty simple operation: Plug the iphone in, itunes opens and does a sync. It almost always works perfectly, I never change any settings. Yet every once in a while it deletes a newly installed app so obviously something is wrong. If I can find out what I did wrong, then I can avoid it in the future.
    Thanks!

  • ITunes confuses iPod Touch with iPhone

    Hi everybody
If I plug my iPod touch into the computer itunes gives me following warning:
The software requirde for iPhone is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install iTunes again.
The iPod doesn`t appear in iTunes but charges.
Does anybody have an idea what I did wrong?
Thank you very much in advance

my ipod touch worked fine at work until i upgraded to the new itunes. now it can't be seen while plugged in. it charges but doesn't show up in itunes. i have done everything that i have found on the website and still nothing. any suggestions? i also upgraded to the 1.1.3 firmware so i really don't want to have to restore my touch again if i don't have to since i was charged twice for the upgrade (another story all toghether). it still works fine at home. the problem is, i have about 9 days worth of music here at work and i don't want to have to burn all of that to cd's so i can put it on my pc at home.

  • Itunes confusion...sync....icloud

My son created an itunes on my computer.  when i got an ipad, it synced his on my ipad too.  Now since i can't get icloud to work, i am afraid to sync cause it might lose his stuff....but my computer crashed and i lost outlook, contacts, emails, personal folders and the calendar.  did it get synced to him?

One thing you could do is create a playlist with just 'x' amount of songs in it and then only sync that playlist to your phone. You could also have iTunes create a 128 kbps versions of the songs to have on your phone, which will allow you to add twice as many songs in the same amount of space or give you that much more free space with the same amount of songs.
I think you may have to go to the 'Music' tab to manage how music is controled on the phone (not sure as I'm not at a computer with iTunes).
I often wondered what the 'Other' was. Probably the OS.
I have a question for you. When you turned on iTunes Match on your iPhone, what happened? The bottom line for me is the same as you. I have much more music in iTunes than I can fit on my iPhone. I keep a few hundred songs on my phone and thats the way I want to keep it. If I turn on iTunes Match on my iPhone I get a warning "iTunes Match will replace the music library on this device" It doesn't say what it will replace it with. Will it try to add all 3,000 songs from iTunes? Will it just replace the songs currently on my iPhone with the iTunes match versions?

  • ID and Itunes confusion - iphone 4

my son snd I shared an ID so, when he was younger he could purchase music from Itunes. Now he much older and witht he advent of Icloud backup etc we needed to seperate our interests so we renamed the original ID from XX to YY (exmaple names of course !) for him to use by changing the ID params on his Iphone and preserve the music purchases....or so we thought...and made a new ID as XX for me to use...so it would remain consistent with my phone ID params etc. I hoped that backup would ensure my apps related to my new XX ID and retain them as they were under the original XX ID.
However, my apps do not upgrade at all and I cannot purchase new ones...it asks for my ID and password and then does nothing.
I can only assume that the change of IDs and name swapping has severed logical links between accounts and devices.
I guess its my fault for trying it....but does anyone please have a remedy ...other than removing my brain ?

    Fixed it!!!
i unistalled itunes completely using iobit unistaller 2.0

  • App updates in iTunes confusion

Whenever I open iTunes it always says under applications that I have updates but whenever I click on e.g. 9 updates available I'm told there are no updates!!! It's really annoying. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can resolve it? Thanks in advance.

Thanks jlevinson, I appreciate your insight. However, it just so happens that I have "I Say Free", a classic game that brings back memories from my childhood of the electronic version called Simon. The app updated just fine on my iOS4 iphone. However, I ran into the problem you mentioned on my ipad, which does not have iOS4 yet. Contrary to what you say though, itunes does not remove the old I Say Free version from my iPad when syncing but, rather, will not update and leaves the old copy on my iPad so it continues to work...no need to go digging around in the trash for the old version, it automatically stays. A dialogue box comes up saying as much. When iOS4 comes out for iPad in the fall, it will then update automatically. I will have never lost use of I Say Free at any time. I like this automation. So, I respect your opinion, but your understanding of the update process is incorrect. Just as we have the choice in itunes to sync songs automatically or manually, I would like the choice to set the apps to update automatically. I think that is not too much to ask.
And I always click update all without checking the specs. I don't have time to check the specs on each app update nor would I want to. I would really like it to be automatic so I can focus on productivity or consumption. And by the way, if an app that I really need won't work because my device is obsolete, I will be getting the next generation device. I have never had that rare issue though. Your point might be used for this situation though: Using the I Say Free example, if I did not previously have that app on my iPad, I would not be able to get it today because the old version is not available anymore, but that is an entirely different issue than the issue of this thread.
So, yes, I would still want to have automatic updates.
Thanks for your input though and I hope you have a wonderful day!

  • ITunes confused about .wma files

I had some .wma files in My Music. They, unsurprisingly, did not play on my new iPod. So I purchased them anew from iTunes. They now play on the computer and show up in the music library, but will not load onto my iPod. They still have an exclamation point next to them. I have tried removing the .wma files from My Music, at which point iTunes cannot find these tunes at all. Help!

*I just noticed that the software I have instaled in my laptop is not converting this kind of file (wma) to another one which can be played by ipod's*
Does that mean you're using a different kind of audio converter other than iTunes? If so, try converting the files through iTunes, as iTunes does have the ability to convert audio to a compatible format.
If you are already trying to use iTunes, then that is a different story. Do you know where you got the wma files from? Were they purchased online, or were they imported from CD using Windows Media Player?

  • IPhone/Mac/iTunes Confusion

I've had a MacBook Pro for a few years, but I recently got an iPhone. I'm trying to figure out how to put music from my mac to my phone. When I plug my phone into my mac, it says the iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later. So I searched for updates in iTunes and went through all the steps, it downloaded the update and restarted my computer. When I went to open iTunes again it looked exactly the same. I plugged my phone back in and the same message popped up. I'm not sure what I did wrong. Please help!

If you're running Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, you need to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6. If you're running Mac OS X 10.6 and didn't install the update, do so.

  • 2 different Ipods (Shuffle and Video) itunes confusion....help!

Got new video ipod, fiance has the shuffle. its not allowing me to install the new software due to the other itunes already there.....how do i fix this without losing the huge music library already there??

If you have already installed later (or the same) versions of iTunes and iPod updater than the versions on the CD that came with your iPod, you don't need to install the software from the CD. Just plug in your iPod and it will work, without losing your music library.
For your reference the latest version of iTunes is 6.0.3.5 http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/and iPod Updater 2006-01-10 is also the latest version. iPod Updater 2006-01-10 includes version 1.1 for the 5G and 1.1.3 for the Shuffle http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/.
The Shuffle will continue to update in the same way. With the new iPod after you connect it to your computer go to Edit > Preferences > iPod (tab) and specify how you want your new iPod to be updated.
I have been using a 5G iPod and Shuffle with my iTunes for several months now and have found the process very easy without losing anything.

  • Upgrading computer leaves iTunes confused

I've upgraded a couple of my systems multiple times and each time iTunes no longer associates my iTunes account with the new OS which means that I no longer have access to the music I've purchased on that account.
Is there a way of re-registering that machine with the account I'm using?

Just try to play such a track through iTunes - under normal conditions you will be asked to authorize that by entering your ID/PW.

  • 2 iPad users using one iTunes account.  how best to manage this?

My wife and I both have ipads, ipods, and iphones.  We want to use one iTunes account but it has proven to be very frustrating.  any advice?

as far as we can tell, iTunes has no concept that this is iPad1 and this is iPad2.  The only to manage sharing 80% same content but diferentiating on 20% is to manage EVERYTHING manually.  With lots of apps, movies, and 80GBs of songs, this is ridiculous.  We can't be the only couple who want one account but lots of different devices with different desired items on them.
Some syncs can't be done manually so we have to go back and delete or add after the fact. Giant waste of time.
iTunes on the iPad is a bit of a joke.  it doesn't seem to have any relationship to iTunes on our primary computer.  It doesn't actually function the same way (doesn't actually store downloaded items) which leads to iTunes confusion, frustration, and sometimes duplicate buying.
I'm thinking I'll just wait for the cloud service but given apple's record with iTunes, I'm a little doubtful about that.  Appreciate the response.

  • How do I get my legitimate songs from iPod to iTunes? Old computer died and have new iMac but same apple id?!!

    HELP ME!
I won't lie, iTunes confuses the **** out of me. I thought I had it sussed though, clearly I was wrong...
Okay, got a new iMac when my last pc finally died. Synced my ipod to it no worries at all, never lost a song. I assumed it was because I had home sharing or because I'd authorised my new computer using my old apple id?
Now I have a problem though. This is the first time I've actually had a good look at what happens when I connect the ipod to itunes. It will let me add new music that I've burned from my cds. However, it won't let me save any of the previously burned music on this ipod to the itunes library, even though I used itunes and the same apple id to do it originally on my old pc. I want to do this so I can transfer some of the music to my iphone which has less memory (we have an ipod playlist and iphone playlist because of the memory available).
Is there a setting I've got wrong or is this because itunes legitimately believes I'm trying to infringe a copyright? I thought my apple id would mean they knew everything I'd done under that id before? Do I have to burn the cds all over again?
Pls ask me to clarify anything if I've not provided the right info.
    Thanks

A lot of content is available to down load from the purchased are of Itunes Store on all devices and computers.
If you do not use iTunes Match, I don't then the computer is your source of your own non purcased content. This you can share with 5 Computers and 5 Devices.
That is why it is important to keep a backup of this data so it can be restored to that computer or mover to a new one and you can resync it to your devices

  • How can I make my own ringtone in iTunes 11.0.2?

I used to convert the audio to an ACC file after I cut it. However, there's no longer that button, how can I make them into tones after cutting the audio? The new version of iTunes confuse me

You need GarageBand 1.3 for iOS - is your iPhone compatible with that?

  • ITunes not recognizing Outlook

I was hoping to sync my new iPad with the contacts and calendar in my Outlook 2007. However, iTunes does not seem to be recognizing that I have Outlook installed. When I go to the Info page for my iPad in iTunes, there are no selections to select from in the "Sync Contacts with" list box. In addition, in the "Sync Calendars" section, it states that "No supported calendar application can be found.". Has anyone had a similar problem?
I have moved my "Program Files" directory over to my D: drive (I'm running Windows 7). Could that have iTunes confused? Or am I missing something?

I've updated the path in the registry for the default install path to point to "D:\Program Files". That way, any program I install (including Outlook) automatically defaults to installing on the D: drive.
