ITunes - Connecting more than 1 IPod Video

If there are 2 IPod videos owned - a 30gb and 80gb, how can you prevent Ipod 30gb from updating with all the material in the ITunes Library Downloaded / Imported for IPod 80gb and vice versa? the owners have different music tastes and don't want the others music on their own IPod.

Hi Trekker,
You can set preferences in iTunes to synchronise your iPods manually rather than automatically:
To set iTunes to let you manage music and video on iPod manually:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane and click the Summary tab.
2 In the Options section, select “Manually manage music and video.”
3 Click Apply.
Note: When you manage songs and video yourself, you must always eject iPod from
iTunes before you disconnect it.
To add a song, video, or other item to iPod:
1 In the iTunes Source pane, click Music or another Library item.
2 Drag a song or other item to the iPod icon in the Source pane.
To remove a song, video, or other item from iPod:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane.
2 Select a song or other item on iPod and press the Delete or Backspace key on your
keyboard.
If you manually remove a song or other item from iPod, it is not deleted from your
iTunes library.
To make a new playlist on iPod:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the Source pane, and then click the Add button or choose
File > New Playlist.
2 Type a name for the playlist.
3 Click an item, such as Music, in the Library list, and then drag songs or other items to
the playlist.
To add songs to or remove songs from a playlist on iPod:
m Drag a song to a playlist on iPod to add the song. Select a song in a playlist and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the song.
I copied that from the manual - hope that helps!

  • Connecting more than one ipod to one mac computer

Can anyone please advise me on how I can connect more than one ipod to just the one mac computer. I need to set up 3 ipods to work on the one mac computer but each with there own itunes library. thanks

When the iPods belong to two users, there are a couple of recommended methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. Each iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod
Choosing the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - Selected playlists in iTunes 7) allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). You can read more about playlists at these links:

    Hi there,

  • Use of same iTune for more than one iPod

I need to find out whether I can use the same itune in one computer for more than one iPod nano and one iPod video?

I looked at the article, but it doesn't help me know how once I have downloaded onto a nano, for example, the itunes knows that the next thing I connect is something different. My son hooked up his 20GB ipod last night after updating his sister's nano and now the itunes thinks his ipod is a nano. How do I get the itunes to recognize his ipod as the 20GB it is?

  • Connecting More than 1 Ipod Nano

My neighbor has twin boys and wouldlike to buy each of them an Ipod Nano. How would you go about using ITunes for both Nanos' on one computer? Is it possible and how?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

  • More than one Ipod on a single computer.

I just wanted to ask before I bought a Classic 80 gig if it is possible to have 2 seperate Ipods connected to a single computer with totally different music? The reason I ask is I have a 16 year old daughter and lets just say I really don't want to have to listen to her "choice" of music. Can I have 2 differnt lists of music so I can sync one with my music and she can keep hers syning with her choice? Also if it can be done how hard is it? I don't want anything that will be a total brain strain everytime I want to add a song or even to set up. Thanks in advance

Yes, you can connect more than one iPod to the same computer & iTunes library. You can manage what goes on to each iPod using simple playlists, one for you, one for your daughter. Just drag & drop items from the main menu to the relevant playlist and choose to sync selected playlists on each iPod.

  • Connect more than 3 ATV's at the same time to one iTunes Library.

Seriously! Im about to go nuts on this!
I have a big problem, I have 13 ATV's, 1 x MacMini witch has two external drives on 1TB containing film attached to it.
I want to be able to connect all the ATV's to the same iTunes library, I know that you cant stream to 13 ATV's simultaneously. I just want them to be connected to the library so i dont have to run to the computer to connect another one just because you change location inside the boat.
I have been in contact with Apple Pro support numerous of times regarding this and the only answer you get it pretty much.. this is the way it is.. like it or not..
Have contacted Royal Caribbean Cruise ships yard down in Miami to try getting hold of the guy who had to do with the 1400 iMacs the had installed on their vessels. Not received a reply from him yet..
Does anyone else have any tips on how I can approach or try to contact?
I know that me with my few ATV's is a man with no voice when it comes to speak to Apple about this problem.. But the thing is that i am working as an IT Officer on a private owned yacht 70m+ and have allot of contact with other IT guys from other private owned vessels (read hundreds of hundreds private owned yacht around the globe) how was like me.. looking for a nice, quiet good looking pice of equipment with a nice, easy to use interface that isn't going to cost 100 000€.. If you start looking at it in that way, my 13 ATV' all of a sudden could been 1300? or maby even 13 000? when you start counting on potential yachts around the globe..
I mean i understand why Apple have limited their iTunes to not be able to handle more than 3 ATV's at the same time.. but i still think its wrong to cut all possible changes to make it able to connect more than 3 external medias to the same library. They could have made a solution like what they have done with the Quicktime for example.. the player that comes standard in OSX is the basic one.. go online pay "what ever amount" and whips you have a pro version.. could have done exactly the same thing when it comes to iTunes.. basic pre installed.. buy a code in apple store and whips you have pro features..
It cant just be me in the hole world ho has this problem?!?!
Incredibly grateful for answers or thoughts.
    Best regards Timpos

AC, Thank you for you reply.
Even though it is supposed to be a 'simple' home video system it has so much potential!
And i mean i know there is an solution since i know the Caribbean cruises are using apple as media centers onboard their ships. have to admit that i do not know if they are using frontrow or some other application created buy some other company.. i just know that some one must know how to get around it all and make it work..
Just wish i had someone to get in contact with that is working hands on every day with this product, and get strait, good, final answers.. no "pro support" since im not happy with their answers anymore..
I know i start to sound desperate.. but thats because i am..

  • Can you have more than three ipods registered to a itunes account?

Everyone in our family has a ipod video. so we have a total of 5 in the house. The question I am wondering about is.. can more than 3 ipods be registered to an itunes account? and if not..can we make a new account for the other two? when my son is at college would he be able to log on to the itunes or would he only be able to do it when he came home to visit? Since we would be loading the songs and videos on this end?
Thanks.. we are all new to this..

can more than 3 ipods be registered to an itunes account?
You don't register iPods to an iTunes account.
You simply have an iTunes account at the iTunes store.
You can use this on any computer in the world with internet access. You can use this one iTunes account to purchase and play music on up to 5 computers at a time.
when my son is at college would he be able to log on to the itunes
He can use iTunes whenever he wants.
You don't need to log on to run iTunes.
