  • ITunes connection timed out problem. Please help

Hey guys, I've purchased an iPod Touch 4th Gen recently but a problem I've had after installing iTunes is connecting to the internet. I haven't even got the software on the iPod Touch due to an error - "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your internet settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again"
Here's a similar error message which comes up -
    http://turbo.inquisitr.com/wp-content/2009/11/itunes-connection-timed-out.jpg
The frusterating thig is that know one has a clue about the problem or the solution. I've tried everything you name it, from disabling the firewall, disabling the anti-virus, disabling any other programs which may affect iTunes. I've tinkered with the different internet setting, looked out programs allowed in the firewall and iTunes is definitely allowed. And my internet connection is perfect and very very fast. I don't use wireless but an Ethernet cable. There are absolutely NO problems with my internet connection WHATSOEVER.
So I was thinking whether the time I decided to install is the problem? Maybe it was peak time (I tried it at 17:00pm UK Time) and now its 22:25pm UK time. Maybe it's a time where many users are online? But if that was the case surely I would have been successful atleast once?
Please help, I'm getting really really desperate. Thanks you ever so much

You need to place the iPod in recovery mode and then connect it to your new computer and restore it via iTunes. Note that you will lose all content on the iPod. You can redownload apps at no additional cost provided you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.

  • ITUNES connection timing out etc

    Hello
I got my IPOD in Jan this year. It was working fine until a Windows download wiped my hard drive (or something like that). Anyway, I got my laptop fixed and it's working fine now. I had to download ITUNES (8.0 I think) again and for the first two days, I could access ITUNES so I bought 1 album. When I tried to download it though, I kept getting the error 3259 thingy. I basically got REALLY annoyed after 6 hours or so, so I gave up.
Next time I tried to access ITUNES, and ever since, I cannot even get in to it. It keeps telling me that my connection is timed out.
I am completely irritated at this stage as it's been going on about 6 wks now. I could give up and say so what because I've plenty of CDs to put onto my IPOD but it's annoying me so much that I can't access ITUNES or download my album!!! It's so wierd because any albums I put on myself work fine and I'm able to download the artwork.
My internet connection is fine because here I am on the internet now!! I've tried the Firewall thing and I've tried setting up my internet connection again. I also tried to download a newer version of ITUNES but I cant even do this.
    Can anyone help me?

I am puzzled about that. If you use Wordpad to open your Hosts file (in XP anyway) it is generally an almost empty file. One use of the Hosts file is to boycott sites (e.g. known virus or ad sites). The Hosts file takes precedence over the usual DNS lookup so your browser knows where to go immediately - handy for e.g. going to Google directly at 209.85.129.104 without picking up the ad servers along the way as will happen if you go via DNS lookup.
I wonder what would set up Hosts to block iTunes? All the block does is to point iTunes to your own computer so you never go anywhere at all.

  • Cannot access iTunes Store - "connection timed out" or "secure connection failed" issues.

If you are having problems connecting to the iTunes Store to:
    (a)     activate a new iPod, iPhone or iPad; or
    (b)     re-activate an existing iPod. iPhone or iPad after upgrading the OS for the device,
then hopefully this article will assist.
It is assumed that have encountered the following problem. When you connect your device to your PC the device is recognised by iTunes, but the main window simply displays the name of the device (e.g. iPad). The progress bar at the top says "accessing the iTunes Store", but it stalls and eventually there is an error message saying something like "connection timed out".
There are a number of variants of this problem, but the common thread is that your device is unable to access the iTunes Store to authenticate a new device or after upgrading the OS on an existing device. The first recaction is to check that your Internet connection is ok and that that "itunes.exe" a not being blocked by your Windows or third party firewall settings, but the problem persists.
Having recently experienced this problem and scouring the Internet for a solution, I eventually solved it using the following approach:
    (a)     Check that you are connected to the Internet (i.e can browse the web).
    (b)     Open iTunes and choose "Run diagnostics" from the help menu and then select the "networking connectivity" option (uncheck the other options) and click "next" twice. A report will show the results with a "green" or "red" dot next to each item. You should see a "green" dot next to the first two items ("Network interfaces verified" and "Internet connection verified"). However there will probably be a "red" dot next to the third item "Secure link to iTunes Store verified".
The important thing to note is that a secure connection could not be established. This is an indication that your wireless security is the problem. It does not satisfy the security level expected by the iTunes Store. It seems that an unsecure connection or one using outdated encryption (such as WEP) is no longer sufficient for the iTunes Store. This may be why the problem has emerged with the most recent versions of iTunes. The now widely used wireless encryption standard WPA or WPA2 is expected.
So you need to check your router wireless security settings and, if you have a PC that uses a wireless connection to the router, make sure its settings  match. The following is a guide bearing in mind that there are many different types of routers and Windows OS.
    Router
TIP: If you have a wireless connection from your PC to your router, then check your PC wireless security options first to see that "WPA" or "WPA2" are available (see below) as it will be a pain to change your router settings only to discover that your PC does not have the same options.
    (a)     Most routers can be accessed using your web browser by typing in the router's address (e.g. http://192.186.1.1). If you don't know the address look at the mannual that came with your router as it will tell you how to do this.
    (b)     Once your browser displays the router interface you may be prompted for a username and password. These may be the default factory or ones that you have created previously. If the username or password has not been changed, but you don't remember of know what they are again go to the mannual that came with your router as it will have that information.
    (c)     Assuming that you are able to access your router interface, look for the "wireless" tab or menu and a sub-menu or option for the "security settings". They'll be there somewhere. Once you find the security options you can select the encryption level. As stated above, you should choose "WPA" or "WPA2". You will then be asked to create a network key which can be anything with the required number of letters and/or digits.
    (d)     Once your finished write the settings down (including the key) as you will need them for your PC if you have a wireless connection to the router. Save the changes (if prompted to do so) and re-boot your router.
    PC Wireless
    (a)     Again the appoach that you need to take will depend on your OS (XP, Vista or Windows 7), but generally speaking if you go to the "network" on your PC there will be the option to highlight it and right click or choose a "properties" item. I vaugely think this can be done in XP by right clicking the wireless icon in the taskbar and navigating to the dialogue box that shows your network. In Windows 7 you will need to go to the "Network and Sharing Center" and then choose "Manage wireless networks".
    (b)     At some point (sorry to be vauge) you will find the wireless network security options for your network. Select the same level of encrytion ("WPA" or "WPA2") and type in the same network key that you chose for your router. Save the changes and your wireless connection should come to life. If not then make sure that you have put in the correct settings before freaking out.
    Back to iTunes
Once you are connected to your router again (wirelessly or by lan), then plug in your device and open iTunes. As before it will try to access the iTunes Store, but hopefully you won't have any problem establishing a secure connection and you'll be up and running.
    Best of luck!

Something is still blocking iTunes, do you have any other firewall installed?
When you say you removed Norton, to you mean you uninstalled it. An uninstalled Norton security product can still bock iTunes as some of it is left behind.
Several people have found that using the Norton Removal Tool to remove all traces of Norton fixes this problem.

I think I may be having the same problem.  "We could not complete your iTunes Store request.  The network connection timed out.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."   All tests pass the diagnostics.  iPhone restored to factory settings in DFU mode, but when beginning to sync I get this error message.  I've been searching online for fixes and tried several suggestions, but nothing worked so far.  (disabled antivirus, firewall, ie settings, uninstall/reinstall itunes...)  I'm getting very frustrated & hoping someone on here can help.

Did you make sure it was the exact file for your device and the latest version? I just downloaded the latest file for my iPhone4, put it in the folder I mentioned above and it ran the install versus downloading the file. This problem where it times out after downloading is a big Bug within iTunes that has been there ever since IOS 7.0 was released. I wished these apple developers would just fix iTunes. There are a ton of complaints about this issue. I sure miss Steve Jobs running this business, I really feel like it's gone down hill after he left.
    I hope this helps!

  • I get a connection timed out error when trying to connect to the itunes store, if I have pending downloads they show up and I can download, also I was able to access my account, yet I can't access other parts of the store, I am in greece on a macbook pro

I am from the states and am in Greece on vacation.  I have a good wifi connection yet keep getting a connection timed out error when I try to access the itunes store.  It is funny because pending downloads show up in the cue, and they download no problem.  I can also open my account.  When I try to go the the movies or music section of the stor though it just times out.  I tried updating to the latest itunes software and restarting, also I checked all the proxy boxes in the network section of the settings then unchecked them all and restarted and it keeps doing the same thing.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to AD!
There's been plenty of posts about Norton & the removal tool here. Unfortunately many folks seem to not even know it comes pre-installed on most PCs! Even a trial version, never used or long since expired can cause problems - and not just with iTunes.
Anyone with a Dell, HP, Gateway EEE PC, Asus ..... what Windows PC manufacturer does NOT have this junk software pre-installed?
Almost all of them have made deals with Symantec to pre-install it.
    Horrible, horrible software.
Anyway, glad you finally solved your problem.

  • I am having alot of problems with itunes, including a "connection timed out" error CONSTANTLY. Any suggestions?

My iTunes has always been a huge pain no matter what ive done. It runs slowly in general, freezes up every now and then, and when trying to restore my iPod touch 4g, i need to download a software update, which is impossible, due to the fact that every time i try i get a "Network connection timed out" message. I have also had the issue of my account locking me out twice now in a very short period of time, and i have no idea why. It says for security reasons, but ive changed passwords and everything.
I would like to know if an update is comming soon to make things smoother, because ive long since lost patience with iTunes.

If you are getting a network timeout error when downloading an iOS update then try temporarily turning off all your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.
In terms of whether an update is coming, we are just fellow users on here so we won't know when the next update might be, and what might or might not be in it.

  • "The network connection timed out" Update/Restore using iTunes

Can anyone help with this problem. Ever since IOS 7.0 was released, iTunes is so broken when it comes to updating the software or restoring iPhones. Everytime I try to restore or update I get the error "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The network connection timed out." after waiting for the 20min download. For one thing there is nothing wrong with my network connection it's fine, I cannot access the itunes store the whole nine yards, it's just when I need to update or restore the phone. It takes 20 mins to download then it gives me this stupid error. I have tried everything I've seen on the forum that others have tried with disabling virus scanners and other 3rd party software and nothing! The funny thing is, it happens on every computer in the house, even my Mac notebook, so it seems like it's tracking the Baja network connection, but I don't have any problems with anything else we are using, it's just with iTunes. We were using OpenDNS, so I removed that from the router and I still have the some problem. Does anyone know a way around this problem. I am so ready to bail on apple products. Frustrating....
I would appreicate any help in resolving this problem....
    Tnx
