ITunes control (including add ratings) while in other applications?

I am looking for a way to be able to control iTunes and add song ratings while doing other things on the PC. Something that would allow me to add (for example) hotkeys to change the song, add ratings, etc.. I had an app like this on the Mac. What can you recommend for PC iTunes? Thank you! (WIndows 7)

I don't know about hotkeys, but you can use the Yahoo Widget Engine combined with one of several available iTunes widgets to rate, change songs, add artwork, etc.
I wrote a widget that allows you to rate songs, including 1/2 stars (e.g. when you rate 5 stars in the widget, it's 2.5 stars in iTunes). It's based on someone else's widget "iTunes ezRate", which only let you do whole star ratings.
You can download my version here (right-click, save-as). (put it in your "My Widgets" folder after you install the Yahoo Widget Engine.)
I just used the mini-iTunes toolbar to change the songs, but you can also you another widget for that.

Playing Clips/Sequences in background, while using other application?

I am working for a reality TV show and we are trying to take notes in Microsoft Word while the editors sequences are playing.
Is there any way to change the preferences so that Final Cut will play a clip or a sequence while we are using another application, like Word.
I know that quicktimes will play while I use other applications but will Final Cut do the same thing?

The program is not so sophisticated as to track both sequence TC and clip TC.
If you need Clip TC, as Michael notes, just open them individually in Notetaker. Be sure to add other info Like Reel Name (number) on your own. The program doesn't seem to read the additional info fields that you add in FCP.
While not perfect, it does offer a slick way to create review notes for easy communication.
I understand one of the Adobe Premiere collaborative tools includes a note taking extension. I reportedly creates a file that can be imported by another person and will place markers on the timeline with the comments.
I suppose if someone were very capable with XML scripting, they could do the same thing with a text file containing TC markers and be able to import that into a project ....

How to assign higher priority for labview while running other applications.

I am performing 2 time critical counter operations. I am using software time due to the hardware limitation of PCI6013(I have tried all other options). My problem is that I get a erractic value when I use mouse, keyboard or change to other application.
I found the following link providing a method to provide maximum priority to labview application.But even regular labview users are asked not to use this application. I am not even a regular LABview user.Is there any precaution that I should take to use this VI. I am in need of such an application very badly. Please Help.

Yes many,
When you start to experiment with settings priorities in an attempt to avoid the affects of mouse clicks, then you should brace yourself for the application appearing hung. This would happen if LV had a higher priority than the mouse interupt service routine.
Same applies to the other conditions you mentioned.
If you go this route, backup before you experiment! Some strange things can happen to your file system.
I have talked to you about this challenge of yours in another thread. This is what I recomend.
1) If you can live with your readings being made on only one gear at a time, AND the sample rate being aperiodic, then you MAY be able to use DAQ Occurances and two session. I
have not done this myself, and AM NOT SURE if it can be done or if you hardare supports it, but maybe;
a) Open two references to your and configure A so it uses hardware timing (like you already said works good) to count gear A using the other counter as the gate. On the other session you are counting gear B.
b) Configure both of the above to fire occurances when done.
c)Start only session A.
d) When A occurance fires start B.
e) When B fires start A, etc.
This will give you determinism on the counts and effectively shift the indeterminism to the update interval.
If this is not good enough then there is another option. Can you get yourself a nice solid external reference that you can apply as an external gate to both counters? If so you will be using hardware timing and you should be on the right track.
If these do not work out, you may end up having to go to different hardware.

ITunes store needed in english while in other country

US Soldier staioned in Germany. Every time I long onto Itunes and being up the store it's in German, probley dectecting my use of german interent lines and the time zone setting on my computer. I can't buy any music I can't read, or even navagter the site.
I've got all the computer basics down...... before you dismiss me with the quick "check your pref to see if it's English (US) it's been done. and anything esle that can me turned to english had been done too (expect for the time zone setting on my computer but that shouldn't make the differance)

Have you changed the country for the store to US? Open iTunes and click on Music Store, scroll to the bottom of the main pane, you'll see a drop down menu with flag beside it, if it's showing the German flag click on the flag and a window will open, click on the Stars and Stripes to get to the US store. Previewing clips in Prelude while in other applications (e.g. browsing the net)?

Prelude is a great tool for quickly going through media, but sometimes clips require you to watch or listen to the whole thing to find the right moments. I'd love to be able to have clips playing in the background while surfing the net. Is there a way to do this? I'm using the Mac version of Prelude, and everytime I switch to another application while Prelude is playing a clip, the clip pauses.

About your update. If you have multiple displays you can specify one of them to have full-screen playback (don't select your display with the Mac menu bar, that can make it a challenge to get back to the preferences to undo the change). The "Disable video output while in the background" control makes it so this full screen output is turned off when you bring another application forward. In all cases Prelude CS6 stops playing when another app comes forward. Thank you, in advance, for filing a feature request.

ITunes shut down scripting interface used by other applications

Everytime I try to close iTunes I get a dialogue box stating:
"One or more applications are using the iTunes scripting interface. Are you sure you want to quit?" Kind of annoying, anyone know how to fix this?

This is a fairly common annoyance. iTunes has a scripting interface that a host of applications use to talk to it. It could be any one of a number of processes that are running at the time. Usually it's some other media related application that can synch to an iPod but it could be some unsuspect application as well, logitech setPoint for example is often sited. To find out, see whats currently running in the background (Press <ctrl><alt><delet> and click on the Processes tab in Windows Task Manager). Make a list of suspects then try shutting down those applications. You have Task Manager end the process, but only if you know which ones are safe to terminate. Once you find the culprit you can possibly make that application run manually or remove it. Otherwise you just have to live with itunes quirks.

Why can't I save control values while running an application in 6.1?

In Labview 5.1 I was able to save change control and indicator values while running the application. I accomplished this by using the MAKE CURRENT VALUES DEFAULT Method on a VI invoke node. How do I accomplish the same in 6.1?

If I remember correctly, the same limitation with the method existed in 5.1 as it does in 6.1 - namely you can't use the method while the VI is running. See here, here, and here for just a brief sample of the numerous times this question has come up and the possible solutions.

I started out with version 11 and loved it right up to the latest update.
I'm beyond my partying days so DJ has nothing for me but I realy loved the drop down with "what's next", the "play next" and the "add to play next" feature and best of all "SHOW DUPLICATES".
I have an eclectic taste in music and a very extensive music collection to go with it. The "show duplicates" feature allowed me to shrink my library by well ove 1,000 songs and eliminated hearing the same song several times when playing randomly. ie, I have the complete Rolling Stones collection and was able to get rid of no fewer than 7 coppies of "Satisfaction".
With all the duplicates lined up you can sample each one and avoid deleting different versions also.
I'm eagerly waitng for the next update to see if my problems with 11 will be fixed. The current update drops out sections of songs (Whipping Post by the Alman Bros. was over in 3 minutes) and I tried repairing and a complete uninstall, reinstall to no avail.

If you are going to use your iTunes account as you and your partners iCloud account then you need to go into each phone and change your settings. In messages, you need to change from iCloud to the phone number. Create a contact with your unformation and re-train Siri with your name. Let me know if this helps.

Yes, it is standard. But be sure you're looking in your main library, not the library in your home folder. But I recently discovered something far more convenient in the Developer folder. You can install the developer tools on your install/restore disk.
Check out *Developer > Extras > PreferencePanes > Processor.prefPane*
That'll actually let you modify the CPU activation settings from your menu bar or *System Preferences*.

When you open iTunes and plug in iPhone (iPod) to computer, it appear in the left bar. Then just simply right click on you iPhone (iPod) and choose Transfer Purchases, this should copy your purchased items to your computer.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

ID3 tags and itunes refusing to add music to library

As my music collection is growing, I decided to organize it a bit more and fill in the different ID3 tags in windows.
I have emptied my itunes library before I did all this, and after changing the ID3 tags I added the different albums back to itunes.
However, for some reason itunes does not want to import several albums anymore, while they do play in windows media player. Furthermore, itunes refuses in many cases to make use of the new ID3 tags I made. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, itunes seems to remember my settings and the ID3 tags the different MP3s had before.
Anyone a clue what is happening here? Has it someting to do with the new version of itunes, or is it something else?

Hey, first of all, thanks for your help, but I'm still in problems.
I have noticed that itunes imports the music files before I alter the ID3 tags (from backup files). However, as soon as I try to add the same file to my itunes library after I have edited the ID3 file (via windows itself), itunes does not add the file to its library anymore. This is happening to a considerable amount of my music. When I try to play the same files in windows mediaplayer, they play without a problem, so I guess the problem is with itunes.
Somebody can please help me out, because I like to be in control of my music, and not itunes,
