Itunes conversion of .mov files

I went to the apple support site and downloaded the test files to check file conversion in itunes 7.6. I could sync my ipod nano with the sample_ipod file but my ituens couldn't convert the sample_itunes file. I reinstalled itunes/quicktime but I stll can't convert the sample files to a ipod format. Any thoughts?

For my conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, and it does batch conversion very well. Now for the caveat (you knew one was coming, right?), Deskshare has introduced "new and improved" software, but I have not tried it yet. I do not know how it will handle your footage, so the trial might be in order.
Good luck,

  • ITunes no longer MOVES files....

I have my iTunes library on a network drive, when I add a folder, or just a  bunch of music files into iTunes by dragging and dropping them into iTunes (a blue box shows up that covers music/movies, etc)... if I do not hold down any keys, it just shows the number of files, as if you where moving the files from 1 place in finder to another, but if you hold down (I think it's commnad), you get a green plus sign. iTunes preferences has an option for COPY files to iTunes.... did they use to have the option to MOVE files? Is there a way to MOVE files? See, I am organzing my hard drives, and finding random locations where I have a folder with music in it, so I just want to consolidate they all. Also, I did try the KEEP iTunes organised, but that did not seem to move them either.
    Ideas? Thank.
Running iTunes 10.6.3 and OSX 10.7.4

    No.
Is there a way to MOVE files?
Drag files to the folder /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes.
This will add to iTunes and move them into the correct folders in the /iTunes media/ folder.
I keep a shortcut to this folder on the desktop then simply put files in there.
Wasn't there a "consolidate" button under advanced before?
Yes. It has moved to iTunes menu File > Library > Organize library - consolidate.
As Limnos noted, this copies files already in iTunes. It does not move them.

  • ITunes moved my Movie Files

    Hi,
This may be a silly question but I have just realised that iTunes has moved my movie files. I had all my movies and TV shows saved on my hard drive and iTunes has moved these files to Library>Movies. It has kept the same folder structure that I was using but simply moved all files and folders.
    Why did it do this?
Is there a setting I should have enabled/disabled that would have prevented this from happening?
    regards.

These specific steps should apply to your setup:
Use File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in folder "iTunes". This puts the media folder into the current layout.
Use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files. This copies in the mobile apps and any other files that might not have been consolidated.
Copy the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb & sentinel (hidden) and the folder Album Artwork from <Profile>/Music/iTunes to the <root> folder of your external drive Iomega_HDD. Ignore the xml file and other folders for now, they are taken care of elsewhere.
Option-start-iTunes and open the library file at Iomega_HDD/iTunes Library.itl.
    Check things work.
Close iTunes, rename the folder Iomega_HDD/iTunes as Iomega_HDD/iTunes Media, start iTunes, check the media folder is now called Iomega_HDD/iTunes Media, edit if not then close and reopen iTunes.
Close iTunes, create a folder called Iomega_HDD/iTunes, move the iTunes library files, Album Artwork & iTunes Media folders inside Iomega_HDD/iTunes.
Option-start-iTunes and open the library file at Iomega_HDD/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl, check the media folder is now called Iomega_HDD/iTunes/iTunes Media, edit if not then close and reopen iTunes.
Check things work again. Enjoy the music!
If at any stage things aren't working properly rewind the most recent change or ask for further help with details of exactly where you've got to.
These steps should get everything sorted with the minimum amount of copying.
Ideally you need a backup of the whole iTunes folder on another drive for security. Having set things up in this fashion it becomes easy to switch to the alternate copy if & when the need arises.
PS the folder currently at Iomega_HDD/iTunes/Album Artwork should be redundant and can be deleted.

  • How do I get QuickTime/ITunes to read .mov files on Iphone 4?

All software advises that it cannot read the .mov files from Iphone 4.   Photoshop advises that there is probably a codec missing.  Download from??  Would a video adapter correct the problem.......?

assuming copy to ... when adding to library is checkmarked in preferences > advanced, drag the files from the external into an open iTunes window while holding the option (⌥) key.

  • Batch conversion of MOV files for use in PPro Windows

I have PPro CS3 on Windows XP (the OS is more relevent to the question than the software version, I think).  I have been buying some inexpensive stock footage, and the HD/SD libraries they have been offering lately come as MOV files with apple-flavored codecs, if you know what I mean.  Fortunately PPro has been able to open everything I have tried so far, but of course they have to be rendered.  And results in player software (for previewing clips) varies by frame size and whether the clip has audio (most don't, but a few do), and not being able to see thumbnails in Windows hampers my speed in selecting clips, especially since the files came named "1.mov", "2.mov", etc. (yeah, I'll eventually rename them to something useful).  So I would like to just convert them all to AVIs with the Microsoft DV codec, so that they will play natively in PPro without rendering.  I know I could use PPro to do the conversion (put them all on a timeline and do Export Movie one at a time), but I was hoping for a batch solution.  I've downloaded and installed a number of free converter programs, but nothing seems to be able to output in the Microsoft DV codec.
Some of the files are HD (1920x1080), some are SD 16:9 that were reduced from those HD clips, and some are original SD 4:3.  The codec for the HD ones is reported by GSpot to be "Apple Photo JPEG", and the SD ones use something simply called "dvc" or "DV".  Noting the similarity of the name "DV", I did try just telling the conversion program to leave the video stream alone and just change the wrapper from MOV to AVI.  WMP and Windows' thumbnail generator seem to understand the resulting file, but PPro shows colored noise - so much for that idea.
    Any suggestions are welcome!

  • Itunes not importing mov files

Hi, my itunes stopped importing the mov files. Can anyone help, i burned some movies with subtiles and it worked for the first 4 movies, but then it stopped. I tried drag and drop or add file to library and nothing happens!!

How can I tell that. I have several. I am also unable to view them in the finder window like I can other .m4v or .mov files.

  • Why itunes show "quicktime movie file" on my .mid files?

Itunes show "quick time movie file" or "Archivo de película de QuickTime" on the field "Type" or "Tipo de archivo" in the .mid files of my computer. It confuse me because i can`t differentiate the .mid files from others (.mid isn`t a video format).
Can I change it or make something in this way?
    Thanks
    Sergio

Quicktime can play audio and video files. Your computer has the .mid file type associated to quicktime application. You can change this if you want using Windows Explorer. Open explorer then tools menu>folder options>file types tab find .mid file type and change it to application you want.

  • Itunes not playing movie files

    Hello,
I recently replaced my hard drive and restored my computer with a time machine back up. However, I have changed the preferences in Itunes so that the Itunes Media folder is still on the old drive (which still has OSX 10.6.3, connected as an external drive).
My Problem is Movie, TV Shows, and Video Podcasts are not playing in itunes. This includes videos I try to import and videos already in the itunes media folder.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

First, back up all data and then uninstall "DivX" according to the developer's instructions.
    Then try this:
VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Mac OS X

  • How do I copy a large MOV file from iMac to iPad?

How do I copy a large MOV file from iMac to iPad? Thank you in advance for the help. I am connected via a USB but finder is not showing my iPad.

Open iTunes, drag the MOV file to your library in iTunes, then sync to the iPad.

  • After synching Movie file to iPad ...

So I synched a movie onto my iPad from iTunes. The movie file is now in two places: in its iTunes folder (on my hard drive), and on the iPad. Can I now remove the movie file from the iTunes folder on my hard drive? I just want to make sure that the next time I sync, it doesn't get deleted from the iPad because it's no longer on my hard drive.
    Thanks in advance ...

Yes, I have photos and videos stored on my idisk that I can access with the idisk and/or gallery apps from my iphone or ipad. Personally, I also keep all my photos on a local hard drive (because I don't want to have anything without at least one backup). I assume there is a way of doing something similar with other cloud storage providers, such as dropbox.

  • Quicktime Movie File not syncing

Hi have just recently purchased an Apple TV and love the functionality of it, but I cannot seem to sync the movie files from iphoto which were taken from a digital camera. The files are described in itunes as 'Quicktime Movie File' but it seems to only sync MPEG4.
What happened to the slogan - 'if its in itunes, its in Apple TV'?
I have not experienced this yet!
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Jarrod

Yea, that slogan is a little overboard.
You will definitely need to convert anything you want to watch to MPEG4 if it isn't already, and (further) it needs to meet the specifications of what ATV will play (that is to say, ATV won't play any MPEG4 but one that falls within the parameters it can handle. Luckily they are broad and reasonable parameters).
Your best bet is to right click on the movie in iTunes and choose "Convert to Apple TV". That ought to do it.

  • Movie Files Deleted?

Every time when connect my iPod to iTunes, all my movie files will get deleted. I then need to "update iPod" again to download the same movie files from the iTunes library. Whether I choose "update all my video files" or "do not update video files" it is the same. Do I have my iTunes settings wrong or something else?
    Thanks

Also, sometimes after connecting to iTunes, my iPod Video "greys out" in iTunes so I cannot do anything about it. Any advice?

  • QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

  • Can't arrange movie files in itunes?

In itunes, whenever i click on the "movie" file under my iPod Touch's name, the list of all the movies i have in my ipod show up. However, whenever i want to move the files around/organize them, it won't let me move them. It's like the movie files are locked or something?
However, i can move my music files around fine. It's just the movie files that won't move/arrange /:
& if this matters, the movie files play fine in my ipod.
I just need to move/arrange/organize them on itunes... but it won't let me -.-

Very strange. I use Handbrake exclusively for movie conversion and all tags are editable. I even use iDentify which is a super little app which populates ratings, directors, stars and producers etc in the movie information, together with artwork if required.
I double checked last night and every single one of the 462 movies converted with Handbrake are editable manually or with iDentify.

  • Why does iTunes create disk errors when deleting movie files?

I use a Macbook Pro, OSX 10.7.5. When I delete movie file from my iTunes library I get disk errors. I need to option boot select the recovery disk and repair the disk.  Deleting a movie file I have placed on my desktop with finder does not create any errors.  Most of the movie files are created as .m4v movies. They all play just fine with my Apple TV. I have tried turning off the Apple TV and rebooting before I delee files but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?
    Lance

If you let iTunes organise your media folders then that is the way it is. An option would be to change the Media Kind to TV Show which would gather them togther in one folder, but in a different part of the library.
