ITunes Conversion

Hi.
Does anyone have a script or know how to make one that does the following:
I have 2 iTunes libraries, both exact duplicates, except one is in 128k for iPhone, and one is in 320k for listening to on computer. However, I plan on expanding my library (all new music goes to 320k library). I need a script that will compare the two libraries based on info (song name, artist, album) in the 320k library to the 128k library. If there is a song in the 320 that isn't in the 128, the script needs to automatically a 128k copy of the song(s) from the 320k library and put it in the 128k iTunes library.
Thanks a lot! Help is very much appreciate it.

  • Itunes conversion feature REALLY SLOW

Hi. Today's my first time using the conversion feature in itunes. (Advanced tab: Create iPod or iPhone version). I'm trying to convert my mp4 file into one that's suitable for my iPod. The problem is that the version is REALLY SLOW. It's been converting for over 30 minutes but the progress bar on top only has about ONE MILLIMETER filled in! To the people who've used the itunes conversion feature before, can you please tell me if the conversion was this slow for you guys?
    Thanks!

  • Itunes conversion of .mov files

I went to the apple support site and downloaded the test files to check file conversion in itunes 7.6. I could sync my ipod nano with the sample_ipod file but my ituens couldn't convert the sample_itunes file. I reinstalled itunes/quicktime but I stll can't convert the sample files to a ipod format. Any thoughts?

For my conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, and it does batch conversion very well. Now for the caveat (you knew one was coming, right?), Deskshare has introduced "new and improved" software, but I have not tried it yet. I do not know how it will handle your footage, so the trial might be in order.
    Good luck,

  • ITunes conversion of Apple Lossless to AAC not working

    Hello:
I have all my CD's ripped to Apple Lossless. I then use iTunes to convert to 192 kbs AAC for use on my iPod. When I do this, though, the size is barely changed. Instead of taking a 23 MB lossless file down to 1 MB, it rips to about 20 MB. Has anyone else seen this? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

Even if it is working correctly, it does not shrink it by that much. AAC at 192 with constant bit rate uses about 1.5 MB per minute of music, or 6 MB for a 4 minute song. If you use VBR, it will be higher.
As Kay suggests, make sure that your import settings are correct. Also, note that conversion creates a new file and leaves the original in place, so make sure you are looking at the new file. Its Date Added will be the date of conversion, and its "Kind" will be AAC.

  • Unwanted iTunes Conversions

Without my directing iTunes to do so some 250 songs were converted to very weird BitRate numbers: 160,198,199, 204, 238, 241, 242, 245, 248, 249, 251, 261 266, 320, 817, 823, 1411 kbps, but sample rate of 44.1 kHz stayed the same. I was able to convert (for the time being anyway) them back, but what might be happening to cause this? How might I correct it for the future?

Thank you for the prompt answer.
Those 250 (or so) songs were converted just once. And all those those rates I talked about were all the different rates that those same 250 were converted to, although most often the rate was 152 kbps.
I will take your advise in the future, but in this case I had alrady done a re-conversion. So I will need to delete them and then re-rip them, but as there are so many to deal with that is going to take some time. And unfortunately, for me, a number of them came from vinyl which I no longer have. And in the past when Apple has had them available for Match (and some of them will never be in Match) they have gone through that faulty conversion process once they hit my iTunes. (I can't say for sure, when this occurs or even under what circustances it occurs-my cocentration on this event wasn't "on" all the time.)
I did for some songs (certainly not all songs) use "Audacity" to alter volumes. So I had been suspicious of that at first, but I couldn't figure out how it could've done alteration to tracks that hadn't even been opened up by it.
And I wish to check out that VBR you mentioned-where would I find it?

  • Music files / itunes conversion - making it simple!

    Hello
I am looking for some general and probably simple help with the file formats of my music.
I have a vast amount of music which is stored on my computer hard drive, some of which is stored in m4p format and some in wma and some in mp3? Some of my music files are stored twice and some are in different formats. When i convert my music to itunes i find that most of the music converts 3, 4 and sometimes 5 times? I dont understand this!
I really want to have a simple system for storing and converting music. If my music is to be stored on my hard drive i just want each music file stored once and in the same file format so when i search my music it is easy to find the artist i want. With itunes i just want the music to convert once. This all may seem very simple to someone but to me i feel like i have a complicated system and i just want to tidy it up and make it easy to manage. Can anybody help! Thank you.

I really do not understand what all the different formats are so even trying to talk about this is difficult but i will try. I have all my music stored on my hard drive but it seems to be in different places. When i click on my music i have a number of artists listed with their music. I then have a folder in this section called itunes which has also got a big list of artists in it which seems strange. So i have one big music folder with all the music in plus an itunes folder with a lot of the music in also. Do i need to just copy all of the music to the itunes folder on my hard drive?
When i use itunes to organise my music i click on file and then add folder to library and then send all the music in the folder 'my music' to itunes. Obvisouly i have just done this once at the start. When i add the folder a pop up comes with - some files are not in the itunes format, do you want itunes to convert them for you. When itunes has finished adding and converting i have 4 or 5 copies of each track in the itunes library??? I then have to use the delete duplicate option to get rid of tracks. When i then take my music to other computers and want to copy it into itunes it does the same so it seems to be a problem with the files on the hard drive.
Ideally, i would like one copy of each music file in my hard drive plus when i copy to itunes it just copies once. Also when i take this music to a seperate computer i want it to copy into the itunes library once.
If you require further info then no problem
I appreciate your time and help
    Thank you.

  • Windows Media Player to iTunes conversion

I have over 2500 songs that I had for my Windows Media Player. When I bought an iPod, I started converting all my songs to iTunes. But, now I have 2500 songs in Window Media files and 2500 songs in iTunes. This is killing my memory for my computer. If I delete a song for the Windows Media Player, it will not play in iTunes as it states "The song______ could not be used because the original file could not be found."
My question is, how do I keep all my songs in iTunes ONLY, so I can delete all the Window Media songs?

I'm sorry. Yes I have 2500 songs. Most of them are in WMA.format. 1/4 of them are in MP3.format. I've had all these songs prior to iTunes.
Now if I want all my songs transferred to my iPod, I had to copy and hit paste in my iTunes library. iTunes converts some of my songs so I can play them in my iPod.
So, I have all my songs still in WMA.format in a folder I created and I have all the same songs in my iTunes library. It's taking up a large amount of memory.
So, since I have those songs in my iTunes library, I've tried to delete the songs that were in the WMA.format. But, once I delete those songs, I cannot play that same song on iTunes. It states "The song______ could not be used because the original file could not be found."
So, do I have to keep the songs in WMA.format and my iTunes library or is there a way to delete the songs from the WMA.format and still have them play on my iTunes/iPod?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • My apple ID was the original without the email extension.  It caused problems with ITunes conversion after the last upgrade.  Tech fixed that issue but my MacBook defaults to the old ID.  Even though I have a new ID it defaults to the old.  iTunes is ok.

How do I change my Apple ID, when it defaults to an old ID and ITunes is accepting another ID?  The IDis very old and does not contain an email extension.  I had a problem because of that earlier this year in my ITunes account and Apple fixed it.

  • Changing output format for iTunes conversions

WHen I convert my WMA files, iTunes converts them as quicktime files. When I play music through my laptop I prefer to us Windows Media Player though, not quicktime.
Does anyone know if I can change the output format in iTunes to change them from WMA to MP3 instead of quicktime?
    thankyou

When you import a wma file into iTunes, it makes a copy of the file converting it to either MP3 or AAC according to how you have set your preferences in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>Importing.
You want the drop down box labelled "Import Using".
The actual program used to play the file depends on how you have your file associations set. You can change this by right clicking on a file and selecting "Open with" >>Choose Program. You select the program you want to use (assuming it knows how to play the file) and also ensure the "Always use selected program..." check box is ticked.
The original wma file is left intact, so unless you delete it, it will be available to use in WMP. If you don't want to do that, and you want to use WMP as your player, you need to import into iTunes as MP3 rather than AAC.

  • Itunes podcast conversion to iphone

I downloaded a bunch of Bernina podcasts and then synced them to my iphone. Itunes tells me that
some of them aren't in a format for the iphone and didn't sync. So I selected one of them and clicked
on the itunes option to make it available for the iphone, and it took quite awhile for the conversion to occur as I watched it's status bar. However, it still doesn't sync to iphone. I would have expected to
see two files--one for itunes on an imac and the other for the iphone. I did check the Get Info on one of the files and it looks like all of the files that don't sync have video dimensions of 640 x 480 or greater. I expected that the itunes "conversion" option would have made it smaller. So how does this itunes conversion option work and under what circumstances (like mine, maybe) won't it work? Thanks.....

  • Video/DVD conversion problems and questions

I have been using i-tunes for a couple years. The music libary and its functionality is superb however after getting an Iphone I have been trying to fully understand the concept of the required video/dvd conversion before itunes will accept them.
I have used a couple different programs to convert content into Mpeg-4 itunes acceptable format. However when attempt to snyc video to my iphone several issues arise. First I have had content in my movie/video libary that for whatever reason will not transfer to the phone. Sometimes itunes will transfer a specific video and then on a later snycing, it will leave that same content out. Bizarre. I had 4 videos loaded into itunes and at one point I had all of them on the phone. During my last snyc session although they were checked, in the movie libary, they were not transferred.
I have been using the itunes conversion option even after its been coverted into Mpeg-4, is this neccessary ? I have ripped a full length purchased dvd and loaded it onto Itunes, however it will not sync to the phone. Should I be able to load an entire movie if I have the available space or is there a capacity limit ?
Can someone describe a process from start to finish, that will decode/convert video/dvd's into Itunes acceptable format that will also allow snycing to my I-phone without all of these constant issues ?
    Thanks !
    S ~

Ok folks let's disengage the panic button. This is more of a means of sorting out a movie/video clip snync problem than trying to circumvent legalities and or discuss copyright violations none of which are present.
i/tunes seems to make up it's own mind regarding which vid clips are transferred to the iphone even when all selections are formatted and are checked. No error message, no indicators, some files move while others do not.
    Any ideas ?

  • Apple TV 3rd Gen - Won't use iTunes Movie Start Time

I've went into the info options under a movie in my iTunes library, and changed the start time. But when playing back on my Apple TV from the beginning, it does not start at that time? Is this functionality not transferred to the Apple TV? I have a 3rd gen, and I would like to know a way I can either chop the beginning to this film off without re-encoding, or if there is a way my Apple TV will recognize my start position set up for specific iTunes movies..?

AFAIK? is that iTunes conversion? I tried earlier to create an Apple TV format video from the video source in iTunes and had a set in point, it did not clip the beginning...
I do know that if you do this same process with audio it will clip the beginning, I do this for ringtones... If anyone finds a solution besides having to re-export, would be great!
I love my Apple TV I just wish it all worked more fluidly, has some glitches here and there and these things should go both ways..

  • ITunes/iPod Video Formats

Hello, i just recently got an ipod video 60 gb
i wanted to put some videos on there form my computer and i already have dragged alot os video's and songs from my computer onto my list and am slowly converting th videos to be used on the ipod(these are plaim music videos, i think... not sure what format maybe MPG or something)
now with the itunes conversion does that resize the picture of the converted video to the size of the ipod screen bexcaues i was wonderinf is they will be their original size for transporting ans showing them to people
also i have some video files that ARE NOT letting me drag them into itunes, thus i cant convert and add to the ipod
(i think they are AVI's, approximately 150mb-200mb each)
    thankyou

Quicktime and iTunes don't convert "muxed" video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
I've used MPEG Streamclip with good results.

  • Maintain title on conversion to mp3

    Hi,
I use iTunes9 to convert wma to mp3, however, it does not maintain the filename but replaces it with the title field. why? How can i change it?

That is how the iTunes conversion function works; there is no flexibility in how the file gets named.
If you like more detailed filenames, you have a couple of options.
One is to let iTunes conversion do its thing, then manually edit it and re-add the track to your iTunes library.
Another option, if you still have the original CD, is to re-rip but this time set your WMP Rip setting to MP3 and set the file naming options as you wish. Then add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.
