ITunes copying music from NAS

Hi
Trying to configure my iMac to read my music library from my Synology NAS. It recognises the NAS and starts importing the content when i tell it to use the NAs as its library, but for some reason, its actually copying the music onto the iMac's hard drive under Music/Itunes/itunes Media kind of defeating the point of running it from a NAS and besides which, I'm running SSD so don't have the room for mass storage.
Any ideas how I can just get it to read the library, but not import the files from the NAS HDD to the iMac HDD?
Thanks in advance

Pft - found the answer - in itunes, select preferences, advanced and tell it not to copy the music over.. doh!!

    Hello there, gleab.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the ways to import content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Also keep in mind which formats can be added:
You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • How can I copy music from iTunes to a 2nd iPhone 5?

I have my own iPhone 5 that i have synced and set up with my itunes on my macbook pro.  My wife recently got an iphone 5 (thru her work) that i want to copy music from my itunes library to her phone.  We share the same itunes acct and she is able to make purchases with it and download songs that i have purchased via itunes to her phone.  I would like to manage and copy over addiontal music (most of which i had bought on my own and imported into itunes) and copy playlists etc to her phone.
She has not synced her phone to my (or any) computer. When i hook up her iphone to my macbook and open itunes, it prompts me to "set up new iphone" either as a brand new phone or from a backup.  can i get around this, so i can manage the music on her iphone without deleting and "setting up from scratch her phone"?  I have read that i can manually manage everything on her phone separately from my phone... so her apps aren't on my phone and vice versa?  I really just want to put my music on there.
I have heard of some other apps (ie songbird) but prefer to keep everything working under itunes.
    Thanks

Not brand new... New to that Mac's iTunes. For registration if you will...
Setup the iPhone as a new device to get past the initial part. iTunes will know that the device is already set up and you can go from there.

  • Unable to copy music from Mac to Windows PC using Home Sharing on iTunes 12

    Hi all,
I use both a Macbook Pro and a Windows PC.  I am trying to copy music from my Macbook Pro onto my PC within iTunes 12 using HomeSharing but seem to be unable to do this.
When I connect to the Mac library on the PC, I can play the tracks without any issue.  But when I try to drag the song to the side to copy to the PC , nothing happens.  I don't get the window that should pop up on the left of the screen and there is no option for Import at the bottom of the screen either.
I am however able to copy music from the PC to the Mac without an issue.  The window pops up on the left when I drag the track within my Mac, and the Import button shows up on the bottom of the screen.  It is only when I want to copy from the Mac to the PC.
I have checked the Sharing tab in preferences, and on both systems it is enabled.  I tried disabling and then re-enabling.
I am also unable to using the download Purchased items in iTunes, as my Mac and PC are connected to different iTunes accounts.  Both machines are authorised to play both accounts though.
    Any advice?

  • How do i copy music from my ipod classic to itunes on my macbook pro?

I have a lot of music on my ipod classic from an old computer I no longer have.  How do I copy this to my itunes library on my macbook pro so that when i synch my ipod and my computer, the music already on the computer won't be wiped out and replaced with what's in my itunes library on my macbook?  I was thinking of burning a cd from my ipod classic, then copying the cd to my computer itunes, then synching.  Is there an easier way?

Assuming you are not manually managing your music, verify the following:
You are using the latest version of iTunes
On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library you have checked all the songs you want to sync to your phone
There are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
You have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize this computer)
You have checked "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings
When everything looks correct, sync your phone.

  • Inability to copy music from iTunes library to 4S

I'm having trouble copying music from my iTunes library (Windows PC running Vista).
It copies three or four albums without any problems and the stops on the third or fourth track on the next album and returns an error message (iTunes cannot copy..... unknown error (-69)).
When this happens, iTunes then slows the whole machine down - Internet Explorer stops responding, as does Windows Explorer, as well as most other programs  It's really frustrating.
I don't know whether updating the OS to Windows 7 will remedy it, but it's an option.  I have the most up to date iTunes, Vista and iOS versions, so I'm stumped.  I might take the iPhone to a local reseller and see what they can suggest, but I thought I'd ask you guys first.

  • I want to copy music from my iTunes library to a usb device for playing in radio with a usb input?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2  I would like to copy music from my iTunes library to a usb device (Transcend 8GB) for playing in my Kenwood KDC - 258U. I am having trouble with the radio recognizing music on the Transcend usb.  Suggestions?

Thank you for your reply.  I finally figured out that I needed to use the disk utility and erase using the MS-DOS (FAT) option and making sure there were no other partitions.  Then I simply used finder to tag music in my iTunes library and drag them to my USB drive.  Most of my music is MP3 although my Kenwood will read several formats.

  • How do I copy music from my iPhone 4 to itunes?

I am new to Apple iPhone and I am trying to develop my understanding of my new iphone 4 and generally how things work. Can anyone kindly tell me, if I were to purchase music from itunes on my phone, how do I then copy the music that is on my phone to itunes? What are the steps involved? Please can you make your explainations clear as you are replying to a complete novice. Any feedback would be much appreciated, thank you.

You can transfer music from your iTunes library to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, or you can manually manage and transfer music to your iPhone without syncing.
With Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and transferring music to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, after purchasing music direct with your iPhone, the music will be copied to your iTunes library on your computer automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
Manually managing and transferring music is manual all the way. Everything must be done manually including manually copying music from your iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes store.

  • How to copy music from the iPod to iTunes ??

    Hello,
I use iTunes since some months and have bought several songs at iTunes. Now I also bought an iPod and copied the music from iTunes to my iPod.
Because my harddisk was almost full I deleted most songs in my iTunes directory because I thought it is possible to copy music from the iPod to iTunes ... i.e. I thought that the music on my iPod is like a backup.
But now I it seems impossible to copy music back to my computer. Are all those sond lost ?
Dear experts: Is there any possibility to get my music back to my computer ?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards
    Michael

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve individual music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • How to copy music from my ipod to a new itunes?

I used my friend's itunes sometime ago, then i have all his music on my ipod. now i want to use my itunes, but the problem is, if i sync my ipod using my itunes, then all the previous songs that exist on my ipod that i got from my friend's itunes will be disappearing. is there any way to copy music from ipod to itunes?
    this system is frustrating...
    anyone can help me?

    Welcome to AD!
See, that's why they made iPods to really only sync in one direction - from PC to iPod.
The artists want you to buy your own copy of those songs. You're not supposed to share with your friends!
There are plenty of posts here on AD about getting stuff off your iPod. Search the forums for posts by Zevoneer.

how do i copy music from iTunes to a usb thumb drive?

If you drill down within the iTunes folder to the "iTunes Music" or "iTunes Media" folder you'll see that iTunes has the songs organised by artists. If you want a particular album, you'll have to know who the artist is. There's also a folder named "Various Artists" for complication albums. And as for me, I don't use a USB drive to back things up, I use an external hard drive, which can hold more data. If you don't have one, I recommend getting one.
