Itunes copying to ipod

I recently got a new laptop, downloaded itunes and hooked up my ipod to this laptop. I haven't really done any downloads on it yet. My ipod already has a ton of songs on it, but I wanted to purchase a few things from the itunes store. I just downloaded the 6th season of Family Guy to my itunes successfully. However, when I went to copy them to my ipod, I got the following message:
*Some of the items in the itunes library, including "(all Family Guy episode)" were not copied to the ipod "My Ipod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer.*
I am a very basic ipod user, so can anyone ehlp me with this problem please.
Thanks.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes or play one of the songs, and provide your iTunes Store account information when prompted.

  • ITunes thinks my iPod is a disk and won't copy music to it

    hey all,
I have a new 30GB iPod (my first), registered as "ROB"S IPOD". The first few times I imported songs from iTunes to my iPod, no problem. However, now when I plug in the iPod, it takes the first few songs (while iTunes shows "updating iPod - do not disconnect" message), then an error window pops up saying "Attempting to copy to the disk 'ROB"S IPOD' failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I've tried updating Windows, reinstalling iTunes, etc. as suggested in help and support, but with no luck. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Am running iTunes 6 (6.0.1.3).

I have exactly the same problem. Applied the Restore procedure. Procedure successful (apparently), but after connection iTunes copied just 4 or 5 songs from the library, then quit again with the same message about the "disk". Curious what happened in your case, Sybil 74.

  • My new laptop is Windows 7. I've just updated iTunes to 10.7.0.21 x64. ipod  with 3000  tracks no longer recognised. I want to copy from iPod to laptop. Is it possible?

My Toshiba laptop is Windows 7. I had to remove first attempt at loading iTunes 10.7.0.21 but second attempt seemed OK. My iPod with 3000+ tracks was reognised by my old laptop but is not recognised by iTunes on my Toshiba. I want to copy from iPod to iTunes to maintain the library. Is this possible?

  • Can I copy from ipod into itunes?

I had my ipod library on a computer that had to be rebuilt and it couldn't be saved. This means that I only have my library on my ipod. Is there any way of syncing it with my laptop without wiping everything off or having to reload thousands of songs into itunes from CD's?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • -48 error message & iTunes not copying to iPod

    Hi there.
When hooking up to iTunes with my iPod (5th Gen) iTunes throws a -48 Error. I've wiped the iPod with disc utility and it's still happening. Also it starts copying files over yet stops and shows a -5.5MB or 35MB copied.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks

    Nick,
It would be interesting to see if this error occurs when syncing music to the iPod in a new user account.
    1. Create a new user in System Preferences > Accounts.
    2. Log out of your current user account.
    3. Log into the new user.
    4. Import a couple of audio CDs into iTunes.
    5. Connect the iPod.
    6. Restore the iPod.
    7. Configure the iPod to sync all the music from the library.
    Does the error appear?

  • How do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

how do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

I found out an easy way....
With iPod connected to iTunes, right click on the iPod playlist you want to export, choose the Export option on the menu that appears.
iTunes will prompt for a location and format to save the file.  Save playlist as an XML file using whatever name and location you want (I saved as "songs.XML" to my desktop).
Then, in iTunes, go to File - Library - Import Playlist and selet the XML file.  The playlist will be created in the iTunes library and will contain any tracks that are refereced in the original playlist that already exists in the library.
There may be a mesage, "Some of the songs in the (filename).XML were not imported because they could not be fund".  This is because the songs you are importing have to already be in your iTunes library.
I just did this with my kid's iPod and it worked great.  I found this tip on Apple Support Communities (discussions.apple.com/thread/2577582?start=0&tstart=0).  It was posted by SpyglassSally and my original search question in Goole was was, "How do i copy a playlist from an iPod to iTunes".
Thanks for the responses and I hope this helps anyone else.

  • Ipod syncs but itunes does not copy to ipod ?

Itunes syncs with ipod but does not copy to ipod ?

    Hi ranko65!
I think it's possible that your iPod is not appearing on the desktop/in the Finder because you are automatically syncing your iPod with iTunes, but Disk Use is not enabled.
    See this aricle for details:

  • Workflow- iTunes Convert to AAC, copy to ipod & delete converted files

I like to save my music in either Apple Lossless or MP3 (320kb) formats. Unfortunately, when I go to save these onto my ipod mini the files are too large and take up too much space. Id like to try and mimic the software that comes with an ipod shuffle where it can take any file, compress it and copy it to my ipod mini without creating duplicates in my itunes.
Can anyone offer some advice on how to create a workflow to do the following:
    1. Get selected itunes songs (any kind)
    2. Convert to AAC
    3. Copy to ipod
4 Delete the converted files in itunes
Ive looked at some of the automator actions and im a bit confused with the difference of
    - delete original selected tracks -OR-
-delete files of the original selected tracks
that are options with the "convert tracks" or "copy tracks to ipod" actions

For the record, these 3rd party actions are not part of a default Automator installation. They're available for download here.
Now, you could think of iTunes as basically a very fancy collection of aliases. When you delete a tack in iTunes, it asks if you want to move the files to the trash, or keep them in your music folder. If you select "Keep Files" what you end up with is a bunch of orphans: files that physically exist in your music folder, but are no longer accessible through the iTunes interface. You have, in effect, deleted the alias without deleting the file.
And that, as far as I can tell, is the reasoning behind the two seemingly redundant check boxes in these actions.

    Hello bigali,
Your options are kinda limited. I would use this first:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and ...
Then check here for the non-purchased items:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022
You want to rebuild the library first, then sync the ipod.
Here is a good idea for when your done:

  • Why is it taking forever to transfer tunes from itunes to my ipod classic, I have over 6500 to copy and the current rate is 2 tunes per minute

I am just copying tunes from itunes to my ipod classic, there are 6675 to copy and the present rate of transfer is 2 tunes per minute, which means that it will take over 55 hours at this rate,
This has never happened before previously it took next to no time so what is happening?

That show that your original library is damaged and needs to be repaired.  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter i cannot copy films into itunes. even though ialways did with my itunes and her ipod. Any thoughts please?

Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter on her laptop i now cannot copy films into movies on itunes. Even though I always did with my itunes and her ipod on my laptop.
    Any thoughts please?

Have uninstalled then re-installed iTunes and it sees my iPhone but doesn't show the battery state.
I have rebooted my laptop and, guess what, iPhone is now NOTseen! Who designed this software, an idiot? Oh, I forgot Apple programmers don't know anything about Windows especially Windows 7. I still think this has to do with the differing formats as if there are pictures on the iPhone, Windows sees it as a camera and it is possible to see the pictures in Explorer, so these must be stored in FAT format. Maybe someone needs to design the phone to tell Windows that it's a phone and tells Windows to load the correct drivers. Maybe that's too difficult!

  • I have bought music on itunes for my ipod can i copy them to my ipod nano

How can you copy music bought on itunes for my ipod onto a new ipod nano that i have bought

Open iTunes and plug in your iPod. On the left sidebar there should be your iPod name (If you can't find the sidebar, go to iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar), go to your iTunes playlist and drag the songs you want to your iPod. For all of the songs, go to your iPod music library, even if you don't have songs, and on the bottom there should be a blue-ish bar. There might be a box saying "Autofill from iTunes library" click that ONLY if you want ALL songs from your iTunes to your iPod.
