ITunes corrupting music?

I've been using iTunes for a long time now, but am just so fed up with it and have naturally moved on to Enqueue. However, it still affects me because the other music software takes the files from the iTunes folder, and my iPhone still has to sync, so I still have this problem. iTunes seems to be corrupting my mp3 files, and even the CDs I've scanned to my computer have gotten corrupted in some way, because all of the sudden music players (starting with iTunes) want to go back 30 seconds in the song in the last 10 seconds, and then 5 seconds later skip to the next song (or it's just in some random order like this). It's really annoying, and there is absolutely no motivation over here to reimport all of my CDs, because that would take too long.
Is there any way to fix this problem? It's really, really annoying. Thanks!

Same issue here. Im noticing glithced files more and more lately. All my CDs are stored in my attic, what a pain in the ___!!! Id even buy iTunes Match so I could get new versions of the music, but my song library is too big. There is no way for me to know the level of damage to my music caused my this mysterious corruption in iTunes.
FYI, I never experience corruption in other types of files on my computer--everything is ship shape (Hard drives check out good too).

  • IPad 2 music does not play and high resolution pictures get corrupted when syncing through iTunes on 64 bit Win 7.  Anyone else have a problem with iTunes corrupting music and pictures from 64bit machine?

Works from a 32 bit XP machine.  Does not work from a 64bit Win 7 machine.  It's 64 bit that seems to be the issue; the music won't start playing, and for pictures, it's when they're more than 768x1024 resolution that they appear very low resolution and/or corrupt.  None of the normal tricks work (different user account; different USB port; different USB hub controller) and the problem is replicable.  The music and JPEG and PNGs, however, are fine if transferred via a Windows network to a 32 bit machine ie it's not the music/image files.

Dear Katrina, the problem has finally been solved, with the help of a computer-savvy friend of mine who came round this afternoon. As a courtesy, and to thank you for all your help in this matter, I want to share the solution with you.
A piece of the puzzle was missing, as you said, and it lay in the tenth line of the XML document I relayed to you....
    <key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/C:/Users/Simon/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/</string>
My friend spotted that the command string contained a sub-folder of the iTunes folder called "iTunes Media". iTunes was expecting to find all my music there, but that folder didn't exist.
So I created a new folder called "iTunes Media", and moved all my musical content into it, leaving all the command files in the original iTunes folder.
Then I moved the "iTunes Media" folder into the "iTunes" folder, so that it was a sub-folder of the latter.
Then I re-opened iTunes and - joy of joys! - everything works once again. I am re-united with all of my music, and without having to make over 14,000 manual location exercises. I can't tell you how exciting that is.
The mystery is solved, and what had me so puzzled seems obvious now. Thanks again for your help. Without you I might never have got to this point.

  • ITunes corrupted music on iPod touch

I connected my 32GB iPod touch to the computer this morning and found that it immediately corrupted all the music on the ipod and made it inaccessible.
The normal screen came up to do the sync, but then the "Capacity" display showed 15GB classified as "other" (there are approx 15GB of music) on the device. On the device itself, when I tried to access music, it stated "No music". Attempting to re-sync failed as it said there was insufficient space on the iPod to store all the music (as it is just over half full).
I'm currently having to do a restore.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm running iTunes 7.7 and v 2.0 of the firmware.

    Hello,
I bought my iPod Touchy (because it is very touchy these days), 32G on June 12, and it was quite stable, a few crashes, but nothing serious until I installed iPhone 2.0, and I was very enthusiastic about the new App store, I purchased about a dozen apps, and installed a lot of free apps as well.
I have observed that the crash where all the music and videos go "poof", happens shortly after installing some new apps, or updating new apps. It starts with some apps, quitting a few seconds of touching their icons on the springboard. At one time, I shut down my iPod and rebooted it, and everything seemed OK. However, on Tuesday, three days later, I added a few more apps, and went to try them, and some apps crashed, and I rebooted again, and it did nothing to help. After rebooting, ALL the apps did not work and all the music and videos dissappeared. I was very cross after that. I spent the whole afternoon, restoring, my Ipod and it took at least 3 hours to get it back on its feet.
The problem seems to come from some DRM manager within the ipod that either crashes, or gets corrupted somehow upon sync with iTunes, which causes the music and videos to dissappear. I have an iPod Nano, and had instances when my purchased music wouldn't play, and had to resync to get it to play again. However for the iPod touch resync doesn't help, and a complete restore is the only solution.

  • Recover lost deleted corrupted music files tracks from iTunes match icloud

Just spent an hour on Apple's tech suypport line, all to figure out how to recover lost/deleted/corrupted music files/tracks from iCloud / iTunes Match.  Here's how to do it:
ASSUMPTIONS:  You're in iTunes on your computer, logged into your iCloud account.
Within iTunes, in the left-hand pane, select your Music library.  Alll your tracks should appear in the right-hand pane.   Those that are missing from your disk should be marked with an asterisk icon to the left of the track.    Do the following...
...select all the missing/lost/deleted tracks (using the option button), and hit the delete button.
NOTE:  when the delete dialog box comes up, make sure you do ***NOT*** click the "Delete from iCloud" selection!!!
...once deleted, select all the same tracks again, then hit the right mouse button, then select "Download".
All the tracks should start downloading, one by one, from iCloud.
NOTE:  If I were you, I'd perform this operation on discrete chunks (no more than 500 at a time), just to be safe.
    Good luck!

You can also recover the missing tracks from the backup you are keeping on an external HDD. You are backing up, aren't you?

  • ITunes Store music tab not showing up

iTunes Store music tab not showing up

    FollowUp - Problem Solved.
Just in case anyone else was experiencing the same issues, I pinpointed it down to a corrupted iTunes preference file - com.apple.iTunes.plist.
I created a new user account, lauched iTunes and it worked fine, no black drop down window appearing, so I went back into my account and deleted this and relaunched iTunes and the drop down window showed all the search results again, not the black window as seen in my example image.
    Hope this helps others!

  • HT203200 Corrupted music files

It's the first time I've ever experienced problems (that I know of) with corrupted music files from iTunes. I have three incomplete music files that were downloaded. What do I do to get these corrupted files replaced with complete files?

Thanks for replying so quickly Winston,
However, I can't find where I can 're-download' these songs. According to the purchased window for the selected album, these files were 'downloaded' and there doesn't appear to be an option for me to use to re-download.

  • ITunes Purchased Music Won't Play

OK, I must be doing something wrong. I sync my iPhone and it gets all the music I had selected. But I've discovered a number of songs that won't play...and these just happen to be iTunes purchased music! My regular mp3's will play.
Now I know the purchased songs work because they play on my Nano and Shuffle2. The purchased songs also play in iTunes.
    Any ideas?
And a second question...I've downloaded a few TV shows which play fine in iTunes but do not play on the iPhone. Is there a "trick" to playing my purchased music and video on the iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi!
I discovered that my purchase music and videos stopped playing when I went into a Tully's coffee shop and attempted to access their Wi-fi network. I don't know if this was the cause of me losing access to my purchase music, but this is when the problems started. When I got home today I unloaded all the music playlists off of my iphone using itunes, and then I added them back in and re-synced. This seem to do the trick. I can now listen to all of my purchased music and watch my purchased videos. Give it a try. I hope that we don't have to do this sort of thing all the time.

I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

    Hi Divine Inspiration,
You wouldn't connect the iPod to the iPad for data transfers. Music is stored and shared either through a computer or iCloud.

  • ITunes wiped all but iTunes purchased music from my iPad mini and my iPod nano instead of transferring the cd uploads into iTunes. Is there any way of recovering my music.  Very disappointed!

Initially things worked fine. I was very pleased. I had my music library in itunes, on my Ipod nano, and a thumbdrive to back up most of my music.
When I tried to sync the music from itunes onto my new ipad mini last week it deleted the albums in itunes leaving me with only purchased itunes items in the account, On the new Ipad mini CD's from my collection could not be played but they were in fact listed. My new mac will not read the music files I backed up onto a thumb drive or show the uploaded CD music collection. Additionally when I logged into itunes with out any devices connected from my PC the itunes account was completely up to date with my CD's and purchase items in Itunes. As soon as I tried to sync it with my Ipad mini that virtual access to the collection was wiped out leaving only purchased items.
By trying to upload CD music from my Ipod nano into Itunes (originally uploaded into itunes from CD's and  synced to the ipod nano in the first place, taking more than a weeks time), I am prompted to reset the entire ipod nano to factory settings (it gives no other option).  I was following the instructions emailed to me from the applecare team. This was my only recourse for recovery of the lost music files, the only device left that had my album collection aside from the owned CD's. Now the ipod nano is being wiped clean and left with only the itunes purchased music ( same thing that happened with the itunes account and now the Ipad). When I disconnect the ipod nano to see if there are any albums still left on the device, it gives me an error that it was improperly disconnected.
I just wanted to add the music from itunes to my new mac and the new ipad mini. Instead I have lost all of my uploaded CD's and now have only purchased items in itunes, the new ipad mini, the new mac, and the ipod nano.  I have to  re-upload my entire music library into itunes/icloud from CD's again and hopefully be able to then sync it with my new devices.
However it may be better to buy the itunes purchased music on CD's from a store, Cut my losses while I can and never buy anything from apple or itunes again. Atleast I will not have my entire music collection wiped out for moving it between my own devices. Itunes match doesn't do **** either. I have wasted alot of hard earned cash on devices products and itunes purchases by converting to apple products and services.
    What a big mistake.
Very dissapointed with the interface. Very Very Dissapointed!

Had the same issue when I changed computers.  I backed up my I-tunes files, including CDs, but I-Tunes will not recognize anything but Apple purchases now.  There were 300+ CDs in that original catalog.

iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.

  • Music in 2 locations, iTunes media music and iTunes music folder???????

I have music in 2 locations, iTunes media music and a iTunes music folder.  The media/music folder appears to have more content.  What is the difference between these two locations and can one be deleted without losing content?

With iTunes 8 and earlier the "correct" location for music was:
    <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Music\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext>
Since iTunes 9 this has become:
    <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext>
If your library started in the old layout it may have been inadvertently switched to the new one at some point, with a mix of content in both locations.
Check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced that the media folder location is set to <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media (assuming your library is stored in the usual place).
Under File > Library > Organize Library... tick "Rearrange files...", if possible, and "Consolidate files", then click OK. This will drag in copies of any file currently stored outside of the media folder.
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your media then under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn "Keep..." off, Click OK, then go back and turn it on again. This will ensure that everything is set out in the current layout.
Anything now stored outside iTunes Media, e.g. in ..\iTunes\iTunes Music, is now a disconnected copy and can be safely deleted.
You should also backup your library, ideally before you start tidying up just in case something goes wrong and you need to revert.

Hello there - how can I share my iTunes library between two users on the same computer? I put the library in a shared folder between both and have selected this library on both as well, but when I update iTunes with music etc it only appears on one?

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!
