ITunes corrupts, disables, or interferes with network

This has happened to me a number of times now, and the result is always the same:
1.     I start iTunes.
2.     I get the spinning beach-ball and it hangs.
3.     My network apps and my network connection die
The ONLY way to recover is to do a hard-restart - yes, I have to hold down the power-button, then restart the computer.
In case someone asks, in these cases, after iTunes attempts to start up, I've let it run for 10-15 minutes with nothing else happening.
The only indication in the Console I see is the following:

Since prior to this happening my system behaves normally, I have to conclude this is a bug in iTunes or an incompatiblity with another piece of software I'm not aware of.
It's worth noting that after a restart, the computer behaves normally.
Anyone else have this happen? Anyone know what causes it and how to prevent it?

You may have 'heard' this, but there is absolutely no truth to this rumor.
I've run iTunes on a WinXP platform for 4+ years from v4.x to v8.x with absolutely no issues. Certainly none of the problems you are experiencing. I have a dual Library: Lossy music on my internal HD; Lossless music on an ExHD. Never lost a music file or corrupted a Library file.
There is obviously something going on with your setup that manifests itself as corrupted iTunes database files &/or music files. I would strongly suggest you look at your complete PC system. It may be a virus or malware. It could be an interaction with another program. It could be a security program that may scan your files whilst iTunes accesses them, potentially corrupting them. Many possibilities - but I highly doubt that iTunes is the culprit. Could even be a bad read/write head on the HD. Files (music or otherwise) just do not go to 0kb for no reason, and I have not seen any evidence that iTunes can even cause this.
First thing to do is restore your Library (both music files and Library Database) from your backup files. As long as you backed up the files, you can recover in the short term while you investigate the actual cause of the problem.
If you do not have a complete backup, then you need to recreate your Library from the original sources. Once done, see how to Completely Backup iTunes.
As for the cause, you may need more help than we can provide via these Discussions. We will need more info on what exactly happened, when. What programs you have running, as well as a host of other info. It may be better to take the PC to a qualified tech for examination.

I work at school and We have one problematic classroom. It's http traffic is blocked by a FSecure's firewall, but students have figured out a way. They boot computers to safe mode with networking and after that
they have access to the Internet! Now We have to change Microsofts's own firewall.

ITunes and/or QickTime Interfere with Outlook Express

Last week, after installing the new iTunes version with QuickTime it started interfering with the operation of Outlook Express. Specifically, one of these two products is reading new messages in my OE Inbox folder and changing them from unread to read messages. This problem persists after I uninstalled both products. There must be a driver or other component still operating in the background that is doing that. Or these products may have changed the registry of OE and did not reset it back during the uninstall. I need help in fixing this problem. I don't want to reinstall OE because it involves a lot of efforts.

This is a fair question which I tried to address in my original post. OE started to exhibit the problem right after the installation of iTunes with QuickTime on my computer. I suspect that one or both of these programs are reading new messages on OE Inbox. Anyone with knowledge of the inner working of these programs may confirm or invalidate my observation and pointing to them as the culprit.
I contacted Apple Support and they are bouncing me between their telephone and email support groups.
I hope somebody on this forum is familiar with the algorithm of iTunes and QuickTime and affirm wether or not they are reading email messages on the computer they are running on. Better yet, I hope someone can help me resolve this problem on my computer.

ITunes Mac launches on its own - interferes with Magicjack and Airport

I have a headless Mac Mini 2010 which I occasionally hook up to my HD-TV that occasionally will launch on its own iTunes a short period after boot. Temporarily I've had to stop this action by compressing the application into an archive.   We are running Mac OS X 10.6.8. As soon as iTunes launches, the airport connection from the Mac Mini disappears, and the Magicjack software goes in the background and my Magicjack connection then dies. It happens at random, and I can't figure out why.
I upgraded to Airport firmware 7.6 on my Airport Extreme base station, and that didn't help. But it seems it stays connected always when there is a keyboard connected, but once I remove it, that connection dies after a few calls. Zapping the PRAM may have helped for now, and then immediately after removing the keyboard and mouse.   Lately it is working fine, so I don't want to mess with it, but anyone know why iTunes would launch on its own even when the helper is not listed in the Login Items?
When I've played around with it, the Airport won't accept my WPA2 password on the Mac Mini even though I'm careful with the password case, and username, and other computers on the airport are working fine. And yes, I disabled all the Bluetooth settings for looking for a keyboard when it is not connected, and the iTunes launching still happens. I would like to leave iTunes unarchived on the machine so I can use the iTunes sharing to connect to my HDTV occasionally since my original AppleTV doesn't work reliably with it either. I only want to connect a keyboard and mouse when I connect to my HDTV, but then otherwise leave those disconnected and it not interfere with my Magicjack.
If someone can help me find a way to leave iTunes unarchived, while keeping my Magicjack always up, and my Airport connection never dying that would be great!   Thank you.

Upeace, it's so long ago I can't remember now… But I do know that my newer MBP's volume can be affected by someone tinkering with the Apple TV remote. Is that a possibility? If so you can turn this off in System Preferences. It's not at all easy to find though—you have to go into 'Security Privacy > Firewall > Advanced' and then tick 'Disable remote control infrared receiver'.

Update/Installation of itunes 10 disables network card

Installation of latest itunes version (10) results in disabling my network card. The only way I've been able to restore is a system restore. I own 3 ipods and am totally frustrated with support structure. I have tried the following with no success.
Uninstall all Apple software as per a support article. 1) itunes 2)Quicktie 3) Apple Soft Upd 4) Mobile Dev Sup 5) Bonjour 6) Apple Applic Supp. Followed by a manual cleanup of the associated program files director and system32 directories.
I finally located a version 9.1 download but get msg that later version is installed. I followed another support tip for renaming library. Tried with several previous library files and could not find one that would allow install to continue.
Does anyone have ideas? Please, please, please.

I am having the same problem here, and am EXTREMELY frustrated... I was so excited to download the new iPad OS. Argh, I hate iTunes. Have you found a solution? Okay so here are my details:
I'm operating a homemade PC on a FoxCon Motherboard, with a RealTek built in wired LAN port.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I first tried upgraded from within iTunes. needed to a computer restore to get network back up and running. Tested all the hardware first to ensure it wasn't hardware.
After retoring, iTunes was broke. I downloaded from the web and tried to install. iTunes was still broke, and the network died again.
Needed to do a system restore again.
Completely uninstalled iTunes from the system. Ran Windows Update to ensure I had all of the updated drivers.
Redownloaded and installed iTunes 10.1 again, and once again, it broken the network connection.
I downloaded the motherboard and LAN port drivers from their website on another machine, and installed them via a USB port on the machine with iTunes. No change.
I uninstalled iTunes again.
Called support
They had me setup a new user on the computer, then uninstall Bonjour, 2 Apple software (Mobile and serice), and Quicktime and restart the computer. When the computer came back on I logged in as the new user and the network was again broke.
Did system restore back to after I did the windows update earlier today.
He had me uninstall the apple services again, and then setup the new user. By the time I got to this point the network was down again.
He asked me to a restart, no fix.
He transfered me to a senior support person who didn't have any other ideas.
I tried using the iTunes installation file I saved from before to reinstall now that everything was off, hoping it might reset the network, it did not.
I've restored the system again back to the Windows Update earlier today and am very unsatisfyingly giving up and waiting for Apple's Support Engineers to get back to me in a few days. If anyone knows of any other solutions, my iPad will thank you after it gets updated.

I had a very larger OTHER folder in itunes, Went and ask Apple rep at shop today and he advised to do a restore but 1st back..
I back up and then did a manual back to make sure it was done.
Then i started iphone restore, all done and now to restore back up.

As I said the iTunes program on the computer. You open iTunes on the computer and go to the View menue in the upper rightand then click on preferences. Go to Devices and delete the backup.

I'm totally frustrated by iTunes and don't know how to solve my problem. Like a lot of people on here I'm not able to sync or back up my iPad2 with my iTunes (version 10.4.1.10). I attempted to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1. I selected 'back up' from the phone in the device menu and iTunes confirmed that the phone had been backed up. I have the same issue and I KNOW my backup IS good. What happen is when you try to restore your phone apple says something like can I check for new updates and if you choose no, it just takes you back to the restore screen and a loop from then on. If you dont update from you phone then when you back up you will have the 5.0.1 back up and then when you update to 5.1.1 and then try to restore the backup from 5.0.1 it say it EITHER corrupt or incompatible.. It is incompatible and its hard as **** to restore back to 5.0.1. I followed the restore to a T and still getting errors. I lost all text history and have to reset up email. All just because I wanted a 1.2 Gigs of "other" space back.

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and highlight the backup you want to delete and click on Delete Backup

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. iTunes places the iPhone backup in the following location. Navigate there & delete everything in the backup folder, but not the folder itself. You will have to turn on "Show All Hidden Files & Folders" to see it:

Working with iTunes Music Folder locations on a network drive in Vista

I am having challenges assigning the "iTunes music folder location" to a network drive in Vista (using iTunes v.7.3). When I go to Edit/Preferences/Advanced/General, and choose change to assign the path, the Networks folder comes up, but does not display any network drives or expand out when I select it. Right clicking does let me explore the drives and see them so the ntwork is good. I did have the same problem in Windows XP, but since Windows XP created those automatic shortcuts to drives, I could assign them and that worked.
A quick solution is to map a network drive and then select that drive, but since my computer is a notebook and off my home LAN frequently, the mapped drive really slows the boot process.
Can't seem to find anything to change in the registry.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there anyone who can offer any suggestion to smooth this issue for me?

Thanks for the feedback, but with the iPhone (I use the calendar feature a lot), synchronising just became a very common event, and perpetual re-connecting will drive me insane.
I guess I will just live with what we have until the folks at Apple figure it out;
