"iTunes could not backup the iPhone "Name's iPhone" because an error occurred."

MacBook Pro 10.8.2 (running as admin)
iTunes 11.0.1
iPhone 4S 6.0.1
“iTunes could not backup the iPhone “Name’s iPhone” because an error occurred.”
I’ve read and followed some of the suggestions about deleting the backup… which I did and nothing. Syncing is no problem but when the status bar says “backing up”, the error pops up and it continues to sync music and apps.
Deleted backup… didn’t help which means I have no backup to restore from.
No error code associated with message.
I’ve tried restoring (via iTunes) but after it “extracts the software”, it stops because it can’t do a backup.
I thought I read in another thread where a poster said something about resetting/deleting everything from the phone directly, can anybody tell me if this works? I know I can reload the apps and music but will this delete the camera roll too?
I know there are numerous thread regarding this error message so I apologize for being repetitive… but I would be eternally grateful for any and all additional help!!

  • ITunes could not sync The Sims Bowling to iPod. An error occurred (-50)

This is what pops up onto my screen everytime I try to sync my new game to my 5th gen. iPod. Before this message pops up however, 2 windows saying that some of my Quicktime software is out of date always appear. Even though, just minutes before, I had already updated Quicktime. I'm pretty sure I have either iTunes 7.4 or 7.5. What is happening to my iPod,and why won't iTunes sync my game onto it? Could anyone please tell me the solution. Thank you in advance.
P.S. Sorry if this msg is considered spam, since I wrote the same message as a reply on another topic. I'm just really desperate.

  • ITunes could not backup the ipad .. because not enough freespace is available on this computer

I have been using ITunes for years and reliably backing up my iPad 3 to it under ios 5 without a problem, on an iMac running OSX 10.6.8
After updating to ios 6 all attempts to sync (backup) my iPad to iTunes cause iTunes to fail with 'iTunes could not backup the ipad <name> because not enough freespace is available on this computer'
There is approx 25Gb used on my 64Gb iPad. There is 125Gb free on my iMac hard disc. My iPhone (ios6) and iPod Touch both back up successfully.
I have tried deleting old backup files, repairing permissions, rebooting iMac and IPad, syncing over wifi and USB, encrypted and unencrypted but in all cases the back seems to run fine, then gets to the 'applying...; stage and fails with the above message. It has to be a bug doesn't it :-)

OK I managed to free up more space on my iMac HD to 148Gb. The sync and backup then ran OK! Afterwards there was still about 144Gb free. So it would seem that in order to create an about 5Gb backup file there needs to be about 30 times as much free space on the mac. This can't be right surely?

  • Does anyone know how to fix 'itunes could not backup the iphone an error occurred'?

Tried absolutely everything suggested to remedy this very annoying Iphone 4s backup problem, wish Apple would just get round to fixing the problem that a lot of people seem to have for some time now, 'iTunes could not backup the iPhone because an error occurred' refuse to part with £25.00 to be told they don't know how to fix or they are not aware of the problem being so talked about on their support communities. Please please help, its been 4 months now and I have tried absolutely everything out there.

You really tried EVERYTHING in that article? I'm impressed, it's a long list.
The most common cause is a currupt current backup. Deleting the current backup should fix it if that's the problem. You need to delete it in iTunes Preferences, Devices tab. But with Windows unfortunately that isn't always enough. You need to use Windows Explorer to make sure the backup is completely gone, as the system call that deletes a folder sometimes fails to delete it completely. So open Explorer and make sure it's gone, and if it isn't delete it using Windows. The location is:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7/8:  \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.
There have also been reports that some apps prevent the backup from completing, probably because they create files that the backup program doesn't recognize. The most common offender reported is iZip.

  • ITunes could not backup the iPhone because...

When trying to back up my iPhone I get the message "iTunes could not backup the iPhone "Alex's iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer"
I am running Windows XP SP3, iTunes 9.0.2 and OS 3.1.2 on my 3GS. None of the solutions to this problem I have come across have worked. I have tried:
    - Deleting the back up through iTunes
    - Deleting the whole back up folder manually
    - Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all related components
    - Adding the back up folder to the exception list of AVG's resident shield
    - Creating a back up on another machine to transfer to the PC I use (I could not move the back up file, would not let me copy it to a flash drive)
As I could create the back up on another PC I suspect the problem is with the PC rather than the iPhone. I do not want to try restoring the iPhone as I don't have a back up so will lose all my info!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I am getting very frustrated with this problem.
    Thanks,

  • ITunes could not backup the iPhone because the iPhone is disconnected

    Hi,
I've iPhone 5 and it has ios 6.1.2. I'm using windows 8. While I'm syncing the iPhone, I've an error that is saying "iTunes could not backup the iPhone because the iPhone is disconnected". I did nearly everything to backup but I couldn't achieve it.
Could someone help me to fix this problem please?

    Hey Lawrence,
A big THANK YOU!! to you! Your suggestions worked!
Before I changed USB ports (more on that in a sec...), I employed one of your suggestions that you gave to someone else with the same problem...and that was to clean the connector on the bottom of the phone with a soft dry tooth brush. I couldn't believe the amount of lint that came out! Especially what was found in either end...had to do some very careful picking. (Almost enough lint to knit a small sweater!!)
Changing the USB port was the second and final step required for a successful backup. My computer is a laptop, and I did have a USB Bluetooth adapter (for another device) installed. I removed  the adapter, plugged the iPhone into that USB port, crossed my fingers...and it worked!!!
Now if I can figure out the rest of this darn program, I might upgrade to a new iPhone!
Again, thank you very much Lawrence!

  • TS2529 iTunes  could not backup the iphone because an error occurred

I have iphone 4S 64GB. When I tried to backup today I get the message :  "Itunes  could not backup the iphone because an error occurred". I have tried with restoring my iphone and received the same error message. I am using iTunes 11.0.4.4 and my iphone has IOS 6.1.3. I also tried to backup my iPhone (right click on your iPhone under devices and click Back Up) but w/o any success. Can anybody help please.

Unfortunately the problem continues. I deleted the backup in the way described, but could not create a new one as the same message appears.
There is no any error code.
At the same time I have the problem to sign in into my Apple ID account. This started when tried to activate my imessage or face time. It gives me the followin message: "Could not sing in. Please check your nework connection and try again." or Could not sing in. Apple ID or password is incorrect." I know that both is OK. Network connection works fine and my password and Apple ID is correct. I log into my Apple account in iTunes without any problems. Should I restore my iPhone to factory settings or there is other solution to this problem.
    Thanks

  • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?
