ITunes could not connect... because it is locked with a passcode
_+The Error:+_
iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "t3l01v's iPhone" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.
_+The Issue+_
I just installed the 3.0 software. The iTunes store was not available to activate my phone right away, which is normal, considering the 3.0 just came out. I have an Exchange email account configured on the phone which requires me to have a passcode set.
I can't enter my passcode because the phone is stuck on a display that says "Slide for Emergency" and is asking to connect to iTunes.
Pretty bad catch22 if you ask me. Can anyone help?
I had the exact same problem, I freaked out at first and then it worked fine. I got the error in iTunes, I check my phone and it was at the slide to emergency thing. I disconnected my iPhone, put in the passcode, and then all of a sudden the error message went away and it worked fine.

Error message states iTunes could not connect because paring record is message is missing, how do I fix?
Sometimes rebooting your PC can clear this error message. You might also want to try plugging the iPod into a different USB port as well.
Others have been able to fix it by unplugging their iPod from their PC, signing out their Apple ID on their iPod Touch, signing back in and reconnecting it.

My ipad will not turn on. It was fully charged before it just died and would not turn back on. When I hook it up to my computer on itunes it says cannot connect because it is locked with a passcode. I know my passcode but the screen is just black, no power, so I cannot enter a pass code.
FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Hold Sleep/Wake button down and slide to turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug.
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.
7. Select "Restore iPad"... -

My son's ipod touch 3 screen shows a USB cable image and ask to connect to the itune. Itune does not connect with the message shows: this device is locked and can not be connected to the itune before you unlock it" I have no idea how to turn on this device and how to connect this to the itune, any help is highly appreciated.
Try to get it to recognize it by using DFU Mode. Then restore.

My wife recently turned her iTouch on, to find this connect to iTunes screen.
When we connect it to iTunes, we get this pop up.
The problem is, the iPod will not allow us to do anything but shut it off and it remains on the connect to iTunes screen? I tried to hold the "Home" button and connect, but that wont even work to get it in recovery mode. I've searched the web, and keep reading the same replies "put in the passcode" or "you stole it", however i dont think people realize it wont allow that option...any suggestions? I have/know the passcode....it's not stolen...it just wont do anything and iTunes suck...try connecting the device in _*recovery mode*_, then set it up as a new device. might be a better idea not to restore from the backup.

ITunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode.
I just bought a 64GB iPad in France on my journey. In Denmark we haven't got it yet, so there's no support for me yet...
In the french store they let me connect to iTunes on one of their Macs, so I could enter my new iPad. Then I played with it the rest of the day (didn't sync with my MacBook, cause it is being fixed) and also put in a pascode as I do with all my devices.
Next morning when I turned it on, it only showed the "connect to iTunes" symbol again, as if it was new. And when I connect to iTunes, iTunes only says "iTunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your pascode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes"...
And that is a contradiction! I can't do what the iPad says and i can't do what iTunes says...
Any ideas? Any ways to reset it other than by holding down both buttons at a time, because I have tried that already.
Hopefully someone can help me, I really want to be able to use my new iPadpathfinder172Jun 1, 2014 8:05 AM Re: iTunes could not connect because it is locked with a passcode...?

I have a much easier possible solution!!
I had this same issue, trying to connect my new iPhone 5s to my Windows computer's iTunes. I was getting two different error messages:
- iTunes could not connect to the iphone because it is locked with a passcode
- iTunes could not connect to the iphone because the device timed out
I found this thread, but did not like the idea of having to restore my iPhone and losing all my settings/data on the phone. After trying several different things, I discovered that I had 5 devices listed under my "Devices" that were authorized, so the real issue was that I had reached my limit. I had several issues with my old iPhone 5s, and had to have it replaced twice. As a result, I had several old iPhones listed under devices that I no longer had. Erasing those solved the problem, and my new phone connected just fine to iTunes. To get rid of the old devices, you can:
Open iTunes
-> click on "store" in the upper left corner
-> from the drop-down menu, select "view account"
-> enter your password
-> under "iTunes in the Cloud", click on the blue "Manage Devices >"
-> remove any old devices
This solved my problem. Hope it helps others as well! -
My Ipod Touch is disabled and when I connect to Itunes to recover it, it states that itiTunes could not connect to the iPod touch “iPod touch” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod touch before it can recover.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode. -
after itunes installation an error message is shown, (itunes could not connect to the iphone, because it is locked with a passcode, you must enter your passcode on your iphone before it can be used with itunes)
Hi ..
Follow the instructions here > iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode -
Hi,
For no apparent reason my phone stopped working...so I did a reset and got the message 'Restore Needed'. I connected to iTunes and got this message: 'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on your iPhone before it can be used with iTunes'.
The problem is, I can't enter my passcode because I'm not given that option on the iPhone. All I seem to be able to do is make an emergency call.
It's been working fine otherwise. Any suggestions?
This is the SECOND replacement iPhone I've had this week and I'm getting a bit fed up.
Thanks in advance for any help,Are you referring to the 4 digit passcode needed to enter the phone and use it's features?
If so reboot your iPhone and enter the passcode to get it operational. Launch Image Capture on the Mac and connect the iPhone. Now you should be able to download the video files to wherever you want on your hard drive.
