Itunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because of an unknown error

Hello. I have a PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.5.5 867 MHz 640MB Memory. I have installed iTunes 8 and my library is kept on a separate Lacie External Hard Drive. When I connect the drive, Open iTunes and then plug in the iPhone G3 8G I receive the following message:
"itunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because of an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)"
If someone can point me in the right direction to problem solve I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

This may not make you feel any better, but it's not you, it's not your new phone, and it's not the way Apple normally works. It is extreme overload for today. I have one of the original iPhones, and today I tried to simply get the new software, and after all the download and firmware updating, I got the same message you did. It had persisted all day, and, I'm sorry to say, is likely to for the rest of the day. I'm on a Mac, so it's not a Vista thing, either. Other people I know who bought the new phone are also experiencing the same thing. Spread the word! Discourage anyone from upgrading today! Or they, too, will be WITHOUT A PHONE!!
Good luck to us all,
Shelley

A Google search has found a number of other iPhone owners having the same problem, but no resolution.  Anyone have a fix for this issue?

Hi Annette, i think itunes keeps booting itself because either your ipad or iphone or ipod touch has 'Open iTunes when this ##### is connected' selected in its properties.
to fix, connect whichever device you have to itunes using a cable, select the device in the left colmn and under the 'Summary' tab, deselect 'Open iTunes when this #### is connected'
This was doing the same thing to me. drove me mad.
I too am also having the same issue as the original poster with the cant connect message.

  • Itunes could not connect to this iphone because of an unknown error (0xE800007F)

Never experienced this before, but I've been having this issue constantly since installing iTunes 10.5 and iOS5.  I get this error when my iPhone is on the same network, but not attached via USB.  My iPad communicates and syncs with iTunes just fine.
When the iPhone is connected via USB, the error doesn't occur.  I'm not even trying to sync with my iPhone when I get this error - iTunes just sees it on the network and gives me this error.  Sometimes I have to close multiple instances of this error - up to 20 instances at times.
    Thoughts?

    Hi,
For no apparent reason my phone stopped working...so I did a reset and got the message 'Restore Needed'. I connected to iTunes and got this message: 'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on your iPhone before it can be used with iTunes'.
The problem is, I can't enter my passcode because I'm not given that option on the iPhone. All I seem to be able to do is make an emergency call.
It's been working fine otherwise. Any suggestions?
This is the SECOND replacement iPhone I've had this week and I'm getting a bit fed up.
Thanks in advance for any help,

Are you referring to the 4 digit passcode needed to enter the phone and use it's features?
If so reboot your iPhone and enter the passcode to get it operational.  Launch Image Capture on the Mac and connect the iPhone.  Now you should be able to download the video files to wherever you want on your hard drive.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I don't have the nerves to read through thousands of "I've got the same problem too" replies. I do not care whether anyone has the same problem. So if you don't have any solution do not post! I'm not being rude, I'd just keep this discussion as accessible for other readers as possible. Besides, shouting "me too" doesn't really help anyone. Thank you.
Here's my problem, I sync my iPhone via iTunes 10.5.2, which works fine but after a while it prompts with an error message "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)". This error message will not disappear and I have to force shut-down iTunes. It works OK for a while after re-start but the error comes back after a while. It is a very annoying little problem because I was waiting for WIFI syncing for so long and now it doesn't work properly
Any ideas how to remedy this?

  • HT4528 I can't seem to sync my iPhone with iTunes.  I keep getting this message:  iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device.  What can I do?

I can't seem to sync my iPhone to my computer; I keep getting this message:  "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device."  I get the same message with my iPad, even though they all share the same account.  What can I do?

This could be caused by a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the USB cable it came with. Also, try disconnecting all other USB devices.
If you haven't already try resetting the iPhone by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see an Apple logo as described here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743

If you are using a USB hub, don't. Connect directly to the computer. Disconnect all other USB devices except for keyboard and mouse.

Forget  iPhone password, when connect to computer "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a pass code. You must enter pass code on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."

You have to restore it using a computer with iTunes per the knowledge base article above.
With iOS 7, if you have Find My Phone turned on you can login to iCloud from a computer and send an erase signal to the iPhone to clear it...that will erase all content and settings.
