'Itunes could not connect to the itunes store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active

I get this message when i try to acces the itunes store from my imac via my home network (wi-fi). i dont have the problem if i use my windows 7 based laptop, i can connect no problem. is there a problem on my imac?

I have just phoned Tiscali and given them a piece of my mind. They initially lied to me and said it was not their problem. However after I mentioned all the messages posted on Apple and Tiscali website about this problem of not being able to connect to the itunes store - they backed down and admitted they were having technical issues. They said their engineers were working on the problem - however they failed to confirm when it would be fixed. I threatened to change ISP provider and Suraj agreed that was the best alternative for me. I said "You said it" and hung up. I am so cross with Tiscali as I have turned my computer upside down over the last 6 weeks trying to solve the problem only to find out it was Tiscali preventing users from logging into Itunes.

  • Digital Editions could not connect to activation servers

ADE will not connect to activation servers with either the computer or my Sony ereader.  Tells me to check internet connections.  They are fine.  Any ideas?

Found this on a public library site so maybe you should uninstall ADE and reinstall with the kobo in.  I think you need to activate both the computer and the device
before you download or borrow anything.  I think the trick is to activate the device before downloading but as that's too late reinstalling then activating might work.
First things first, you should plugin the Kobo before attempting to install ADE.  It won't authorize the device properly unless it is already there.

Problems connecting to the iTunes Music Store usually stem from issues with the Windows firewall, a privacy filter (such as Mcafee) or a download accelerator. Start here:

See if this helps in your situation:
OK, all you people all over the world who have been having the same problem as me for weeks, months, a lifetime, here it is! If your warning/error reads "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was refused" and then the BS about checking to make sure your connection is active, well I found something on a forum at Digg.com that with one click WORKED LIKE MAGIC and I'm a happy camper now, rockin to stuff I finally got from the store.
Now before I print the fix, my previous situation was: I could connect to the Apple store site for products, etc. and could check my account, but I could not connect to the music store at all. In every other way, my internet connectivity was flawless. I tried to solve the problem, shut down every firewall or antivirus program I had, searched forums, fiddled with the registry (and THAT was a stupid move!), reinstalled itunes like HOW MANY TIMES, and even finally got a written email reply from iTunes support when I waah.., waah..., waah..ed long enough and they gave an answer that was WORSE than useless. Months passed. So if the above in total or in part describes you, her it is. It's safe and if it doesn't work, you can put things back the way they were without any problem.
This is the quote from the forum at Digg.com that did it for me:
"figured out the problem thanks to Peter on the badapple forums, in his great assistance:
"In your windows\system32\drivers\etc directory there is a file called hosts. Open it in notepad. You will see a line
    127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
place a # in front of that line so that it looks like this:
    #127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
and save the file. your problem should be resolved!"
That's it guys and gals. Also you might be sure that the phobos.apple.com domain is specifically allowed by your firewall/A-V software. Let me know if it helped!

SUCCESS!!! I tried many variations on this and it finally worked. Yes, as life4living says, you have to open the "hosts" file that you can find in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    ... use NotePad ...
At the bottom of the file, I found
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    and nothing about phobos.
AFter many attempts, I changed the end of the HOSTS file to this:
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # 127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
and now iTunes music store and podcasts open up just fine.
Strange. The # character means "this is a comment" - so it's basically the same as removing the line completely.
The address 127.0.0.1 means "my machine" and this address is used by other apps such as Google Desktop. Hatching it out, however, does not adversely affect Google Desktop. So basically you have to hatch out any 127.0.0.1 address in the HOSTS file and then iTunes will work!
    Try it...
(I did, also, add phobos.apple.com to my "trusted sites" in Internet Explorer settings, but I don't think this was essential.)
After performing the above I found it only worked once after rebooting. I uninstalled Spybot Search and Destroy because it wouldn’t maintain some of the start up settings and cookies were getting nuked by another program I have in start up (Windows Washer).
Some other threads said to check firewall settings. I have free AVG. I went in and okay’d anything to do with iTunes. I also added the iTunes program to the list of approved processes in the AVG list and it seems iTunes is now working! Hope this helps!

    It's for windows.
    1. Press the Start Button in the (default) bottom
    left hand corner.
    2. Click on "My Computer".
    3. Click on (Default) C:.
    4. Find "WINDOWS" and open.
    5. Find "system 32" and open.
    6. Find "drivers" and open.
    7. Find "ect" and open.
    8. Find "hosts" and open.
    9. For a XP, a popup will open and show options to
    open it in.
    10. Select "Notepad" or "Word" or what ever you use
    for writing a document.
    11. At the bottom, if it says "127.0.0.1 localhost"
C&P This Over the 127.0.0.1 localhost:
    #127.0.0.1 localhost
    #127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
    If it only has 127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com, add a "#"
    at the beginning.
    12. Restart your computer.
    Hope that helps!

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store "Error Message"

I recently added iTunes 7.6 to my Windows XP operating system at the same time when I added an *Ion USB Turntable (TTUSB).* I currently have the 80G iPod with the larger video screen. I added in the supplied software of the EZ Vinyl Converter. The software reads from Gracenote and imports into iTunes okay. But now my PC cannot access the iTunes store to buy songs, read the tracks on the discs, or display new album artwork. The diagnostic read the network connectivety test, the CD/DVD drive, and iPod connectivity tests all read okay. I followed the directions on checking the network settings under the Internet Options Tool "Connections" Lan Settings and the Automatic detection and still no dice. All I get is "Make sure your network is active."

I'm seeing this error on some, but not all, of my Windows XP machines. On my personal development XP box, I see this error if iTunes is closed when I try and access iTunes U via my transfer script or Stanford's.
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was terminated unexpectedly. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
The errors occured in IE 7 Beta, Firefox 1.5.x, and Firefox 2 Beta. In each case, iTunes U loaded after I clicked the 'ok' button in iTunes. I did notice that in Firefox's case an additional pop-up window appeared that asked whether or not I had iTunes; when I selected that I do have itunes, it transfered me to iTunes but generated the error.
After getting these errors on my Windows XP machine, I tried it on two different lab machines running Windows XP, and didn't get the error message once -- I tried it in IE 6, Firefox 1.0.x and Firefox 1.5.x and they all worked. It even worked with IE 7 Beta and Vista Beta.
Based on this, I think the problem must lie in how Windows registered iTunes, and the handshake just isn't happening properly.

    iTunes RADIO is not working.
“iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again.” Try as I may, as many as ten attempts, trying to connect after restart, after shutdown, nothing works. Just so …
iTunes STORE not “connectable” with my otherwise perfectly-working internet connection, viable, up and running for all other uses.
Simply put, firstly, I can't connect to the internet when I click on Radio.  People are quite suspicious that this is Apple incompetence or your company's famous arrogance for this commonly-suffered problem that you won't or “can’t” fix.
Read the many web comments and you won’t be pleased with yourselves: the suspicion is that if you ruin internet radio on iTunes, Apple will somehow make more money on music downloads, etc. Bull.
Also, thirdly, my old playlist of 20 or so internet radio stations in the Ambient category STILL PLAYS !
Then fourth, I installed the latest available version of QuickTime Player 7.app Version 7.6.6 but it didn’t solve the problem either. I had QuickTime Player.app Version 10.2, but substituted what Apple website said was the latest, LOWER NUMBERED QuickTime Player version of 7.6.6
Fifth, I can't connect to iTunes store no matter what I do or what user group's advice I try. So I can’t buy or download anything from iTunes. Bad for business.
Sixth, I updated to the latest version of iTunes but this weird problem remains. All suggested Apple fixes or user group fixes are useless. Where is Apple’s famous technical competency, vaunted customer support?, and user-friendly product reputation? Get it back, please.
Solve this problem of yours ASAP for us, your numerous disgruntled, dissatisfied customers of iTunes. You can do better, should, and really –in all fairness- must.

    Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

I can say that my connection is fine because I can surf the internet and furthermore, I used to connect to the iTunes store just before this incident happened which started from April 17, 2014 and persists until today. I tried to solve the problem by following the troubleshoot procedures given in the support section of this site but it really did not solve the problem. I believe that others are experiencing this situation as well very similar to mine when it comes to the time of occurrence as I have read in the discussions in this site. Even though we have different network connections, operating systems and other specifications, we still experience the same problem, so is there really a problem with our computers or is it with the iTunes? And by the way, my computer works under Windows XP. Thanks a lot. God bless.
