ITunes could not sync contacts because the iPod is disconnected
The iPod/Touch IS connected and syncronising music, photos and starting with the contacts sync. After 20 seconds or so the process stops and the alert message says:
"iTunes could not sync contacts on the iPod because the iPod is disconnected".
Have restarted the Mac, reconnected the iPod/Touch with the same result. I have also deleted iPhoto cache which was suggested in one of the forums discussions.
NOTE: I have made the same Sync with my regular iPod 160 and it works fine,
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Yve
I found in a different post the suggestion to do a factory reset on the iPod from within iTunes (on the Summary tab).
Worked for me, but it took a while to reset and then reload all of the info...

"iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPod because the iPod disconnected"
OK, I have an MBP (10.6.4), iTunes 10.0.1, iPod touch 4.1, and an odd contacts sync problem.
When I try to sync all my contacts from address book I get "iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPod because the iPod disconnected". If I only sync some subset of the contacts, that works fine. If I create a new group that contains all the contacts, it barfs.
I have tried resetting and reinstalling, and deleting the backups.
Any ideas?
Thanks!Did you try to reset the sync history in iSync on the Mac?

I have a laptop running Windows 7 (professional edition) 64 bit using Outlook 2010 and I get this same daggone message every time I try to synch contacts, calender, or notes (all Outlook 2010)...."iTunes could not synch contacts to the iPhone because the synch server failed to sync the iPhone."
I called Apple's tech "support" and they said unapologetically that iTunes doesn't work with Outlook 2010. ***!?! And further that the solution was to use Outlook 2003 or 2007. And gave NO indication that any solution was in the works.
QUESTION: Does anyone have a SANE solution that doesn't require a degree in Star Trek to implement to this exact problem? I know the problem is widespread so please only respond if you are having the exact same problem. Otherwise the variable make the feedback meaningless. ITunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because an error occurred
When I connect my iPhone to my iMac (OSX version 10.6.6), and open iTunes and select "sync" - everything syncs (my Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, books, Photos and Calendars). However, I get an error message popping up saying: "iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because an error occurred while merging data".
I have unchecked the contacts button in iTunes and then sync works fine.
I have deleted all my contact in my Address Book on my iMac and tried to sync. Again, same error message as above.
I have not tried to restore the iPhone as I am worried to loose my contacts saved on my iPhone.
Who know how to solve this problem? ThanksHi Charlotte
I had the same problem for one year now and it affected my contacts, then later my calendar.
I followed the Apple troubleshooting guides and finally managed to make it work again.
First try the following guide:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting contact and calendar syncing via USB on Window
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1692
For me I noticed that after I updated ITunes to latest version (using the full uninstall from the last point of the guide above, section "Reinstall Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes"), I could sync with another Windows user account (on another computer actually)
Since I wanted my own account to sync again, I then used the advanced troubleshooting guide:
Advanced troubleshooting for Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2776
In my case the point 4 in this guide helped, but since I had no MobileMe, I just killed the OS process SyncServer.exe, then renamed the SyncServices folder to SyncServices.old and restarted the PC.
You should try all the steps in both guides in the order mentioned, to see which one can help, I don't advise you to start directly with a step in a guide
Good luck

'iTunes could not sync information to the iPod "device name" because a connection could not be established to the iPod'
I have an old iPod Touch, for which the most recent compatible OS seems to be 3.1.3. iTunes is quite new (iTunes 10.3.1.55) on Windows 7 Profession 64-bit. Has everyone else who has had this problem on an old iPod Touch found that it was solved, or do they just ignore it?You will not lose data doing a reset.
If this does not work, maybe try to use a second user account, disable autosync in iTunes, plug in, right click on it in the device list and choose "backup". This will create a backup without syncing.
If the backup goes through, transfer purchase the same way.
Set up at least on contact and event for that new account, let iTunes erase the device and restore from the backup you made before.
If it works for the second user account, there's something wrong on the other side, maybe a defective backup or iTunes. -

ITunes could not sync calendars to the iPod because sync server failed to
I have been having a problem with my iPod touch and syncing the calendar with my PC I keep getting this error message +iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPod "Peters iPod" because sync server failed to sync the iPod+ It could be coincidence but this problem began right after I got my Verizon iPhone and loaded that into my iTunes, I never get this message on my iPhone and have received it only twice on my iPad. I called Apple Care and they suggested that I remove and reinstall iTunes and QuickTime and they sent me a link on how to remove them in a particular sequence...I followed their advice but it didn't help so I called them back and they said I must not have followed the sequence and to try again...needles to say I am frustrated because it wasn't that complicated I removed it as directed and still I get the error message...if anyone has any suggestions *please help!!*
Thanks, Stuwawah. Tried this. Although Notes did sync, and although the calendar info was posted to iPod, we haven't fixed the problem yet. New symptom to report. When I opened "calendar" on the iPod, I was able to tap on an event, but I can't tap my way back to any other view of "calendar." The "<--calendars" button is missing. Is there a trip to the Apple Store in my near future?

ITunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the sync server...
has anyone else gotten this message? and if so, what's the fix. i've talked to a "level 2" tech at apple and he had no clue.
"iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iphone"
this happens if i have contacts checked to sync. it synced fine on 6/30 but have been getting this problem today 7/1.I'm having this same problem and I've tried all the other fixes in this forum, except yours. Could you please be more specific? My question is below:
1.) erased the iPhone via iPhone settings. --> where is "iPhone settings"?
2.) deleted my pda from iSync
3.) plugged in the iPhone and restored it via iTunes
4.) resynced and everything is back to normal. -

itunes could not sync contacts to the iphone because the contacts are in use by the i phone.... hi i always get this messega when i plug my phone in to the iphone is there anyone have any idea how to fix my phone thank u
Am I'm the only one with this issue?
As I investigate the crash logs it appears that the contacts db is corrupted and that is what is killing the phone, contacts, and mail etc settings.
I have my contacts backed up several places so I'm not worried about losing them.
Anyone know how to wipe or recreate the contacts db on the phone via an attached PC?

Normally, syncing my iPod Touch is no problem. However, last time I tried to sync, the process hung up and even after half an hour the progress bar would not finish. I ended up having to force quit iTunes. Now when I try to sync I get 2 messages: the first says "iTunes could not back up the iPod "......" because a session could not be started with the iPod." as soon as I close that message another appears: "iTunes could not sync information to the iPod "......." because another sync session was already running."
There seems to be a half finished sync file saved somewhere and a new one cannot be started. However, I can't continue the partial one either so I'm stuck.
Other than that my iPod Touch 4 is operating normally. Syncing with Mac Book Pro.
How do I fix this problem?WHat do yo meanby rebooting?
Is is a reset like defined in the users guide:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
