ITunes Crash on Import

I have been using iTunes happily on my various Macs for some years. This week - with nothing having changed as far as I know - I cannot import my CDs to iTunes. The CDs are recognised and I have the option to import but when I press the import button the import seems to begin but then "the application iTunes quit unexpectedly" appears every time when I relaunch and try again the same thing happens. I have sent dozens of automatic reports to Apple and the relevant bits appear to be Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000400
Crashed Thread: 13
Skype has also suddenly stopped working. I have deinstalled that now so that isn't the cause of the iTunes problem. Any help very gratefully received.

If it's only a problem on your account, it could be a corrupted 'CD Info.cidb' file.
Locate it in ~Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences and drag it to the desktop.
Run iTunes and try again.
More info about this file in this article.
Hope this helps.

Itunes crashes when importing Music File or Folder ever since i updated it yesterday

You can try downloading 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). You may get a more useful error message as to which component has problems.

  • ITunes crashes when importing video (only)

I'm running 6.0.1, and have a new iPod. I wanted to use my g4 powerbook (1.33 MHz, 512 MB RAM, OS X Tiger 10.4.3) as my video library, and use my PC for my existing 350 GB music library. However, iTunes hangs with the beachball when I add any video (mpeg4 or h.264). The beach ball shows up for 2-3 seconds, and then iTunes closes, leaving me with an error report dialog box. Adding music to my library works fine, and the video files I'm using have added to my PC iTunes library and iPod with no issues at all. I've uninstalled iTunes and quicktime and reinstalled both (QT then iTunes) with no luck fixing the problem. This is SO frustrating, as I want to update my videos, iCal, address book, email all from my powerbook, and simply use my PC for music. I can't do this and no topics anywhere online seem to address this particular issue. This is the first time a piece of Apple software has crashed on me, and it does so consistently. Please help!

I have a similar problem. I am using 10.4.3 with iTines 6.01 and QT Pro 7.03. When I want to import a video file or when I want to watch the preview in the iTMS iTunes crashes straight away. No problems with music.
I have no idea what the reason could be. I think it has to to with the ltest update to 10.4.3, because everything works fine under 10.4.2 (with latest iTunes and QT).
Perhaps anybody has an idea what to do

  • Itunes crashes when importing music (v10.5.2.11, Win 7 (64))

iTunes crashes whenever I try to import either a file or folder - regardless of the file format (e.g. WMA, MP3 etc.).
This is only a recent problem.  Is the only option to try to re-install iTunes?
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • Itunes crashes when importing

    Can anyone please help?
When importing a CD into itunes it will import 1 track then windows pops up an error window saying it must close the program.
This happens on all my cd`s.
PC AMD 64bit Dual Core 4000+   Windows XP Pro

I had the same problem and found out it was specific to the file type I was importing to. If I import using AAC or MP3 it crashes the other file types are fine. I want to use AAC but no one seems to be able to tell me why this happens!
If you change file types it might work then you are faced with the problem of large file sizes!!

  • ITunes crashing while importing from CD

I am a very new first-time iPod owner and am very frustrated by iTunes crashing with an access violation while importing from CD.
This has happened with a number of different and brand new CDs and it will import a number of tracks but then falls over. If I try to just import the particular track it will crash again but other tracks are imported OK. However if I drag and drop the same track from a windows explorer view into iTunes it will then import fine without crashing.
Any suggestions? OS is XP Pro. PC is Athlon 64 Dual Core with 1GB RAM. iTunes v 6.0.1.3
    Peter

I seem to be having the same problem. I insert the cd and it reads it fine. I click to import and iTunes locks up. I use task manager to close iTunes and system is still bogged down. I have paid several people $$ and they don't seem to know the problem. There has to be a conflict somewhere but where?
Last person to help suggested that I use WinAmp to rip the cd and THEN import to iTunes.
Hubby has a Creative Labs MP3 and ripped 100+ cd's prior to iTunes installation with no problem.

  • ITunes crashes when importing some CDs

I am running iTunes 6.0.3 on 10.4.4. This latest version of iTunes has improved my ability to import audio CDs, but I still often see crashes of iTunes when importing into MP3 at 160 kbps (I'd imported long ago at 128kbps).
I have tried all the things recommended in other threads: removing the CD Info.cidb file, removing the com.apple.kernelcaches folder and Extensions.kextcache file. I see similar problems when running iTunes as another user, and have repaired the disk using Disk Utility when booted from my Tiger Install DVD.
As a test, I've tried importing from a particularly obstreperous CD as AAC, and it imports fine. Other MP3 bitrates also crash iTunes.
Given that importing as AAC works, but MP3 doesn't, are there any suggestions on perhaps reinstalling whatever portions of the OS that handle MP3 encoding? I have installed LAME, but the library paths in the crash logs only point to real system libraries. I did an Archive and Install when I updated to Tiger (and that was after installing LAME).

did u get this resolved? i have the same issues...

  • ITunes crashed while importing, cd playback messed up

Well my problem is that I was importing a CD and on the second song form the CD, iTunes froze up for a while, then crashed. Now my CDs play but its slowed down and when its playing a CD the any type of sound from my computer has that warped effect to it. CDs play fine on windows media player. • Itunes crashing while importing audiobooks/cd's

Could someone please advise me as to why my iTunes keeps crashing while I am trying to import either audiobooks or cd's. It gets almost done, and then it just shuts down. This problem has been escalating, as I was able to import 2 or 3 discs at a time then it would crash. I would then come back to it later, and start again. Now, I can't do any at all. Does anyone have any thoughts for me? Please? Thanks in advance.

  • ITunes crashes while importing images

When I'm importing images to iTunes it keeps on crashing down.
I read on the support that it could be that some of the images are not good for viewing in iPod.
I had something like 500 pictures to import, it crashed, but when I tried to import them 100 at a time, it somehow worked...
What is the problem and how can I fix it?

    Anyone?
    It's kind of urgent...
I have something like 4,500 pictures that I want to upload and I really don't want to start doing it 100 at a time...

  • ITunes crashes when importing/ripping from CD

This has been a niggling, occasional problem in the last months that is now consistent.
I cannot get iTunes on my W2K computer to import/rip from a CD. When I try, the progress bar shows no progress for many minutes (even if I request to just import one song), and then one of the following happens:
    - iTunes quits
    - the computer locks up
    - I get a blue screen with very little info
Any ideas? I get this issue with either drive: my CD-ROM and my DVD burner. I'm considering completely uninstalling and reinstalling both iTunes and Quicktime, and doing the same for each of my CD drives.
    Thanks!

    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's
    "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the
"Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
Thanks b noir, if I see it again, I'll save it. They're of the ilk of referencing an invalid memory address.
I may not get that far though. On a whim, I checked to see if iTunes could even play the CDs - it can't. It indicates that it's playing, but the progress bar is still. There is also no sound.
I verified with the little CD player that comes with Windows. it too has the same problem on the same tracks (the problem gets worse as you go further into the CD). This is true for both my CD-ROM, and my Lightscribe DVD burner. With that, it sounds to me like a system problem that an iTunes fix can't solve.
I have no idea where to go, 'cept for uninstalling and reinstalling the drives. Sounds to me like I'm reloading Windows. High time, as I've been running this installation for over 3 years.
    Cheers
