ITunes crashed, now my ipod says it's empty

I was adding some music to iTunes today, when it crashed. I closed it and relaunched it. Upon relaunching iTunes said it could not detect my iPod settings and I need to restore it. I cancelled that and ejected it. Upon looking at it, the memory is still all taken up, about 21gb free on a 160gb classic. But is says there is no music and no movies. What can I do, I no longer have everyting on it and some stuff is from friends I can no longer get. Surley there has to be some way to get my music back. Thanks for any help. It is most appreciated.

You maybe able to fix the corrupted iPod, by using Disk Utility->FirstAid->Repair, if you are using a Mac.
or use 3rd Party tools like iPod Access, see this good user tip by tt2

Installed iTunes 12 now my IPod classic will not sync

Just wanted to let you know what happened. Well the DFU seemed to work and the iPod reset. It showed up in my iTunes and showed about 140 GB free. I was able to select all my songs to sync and it actually started to sync, showed it copied a few, then it froze again. One song at a time came up saying it could couldn't copy the song due to an unnown error with a -69 in the lower corner. After about 10 of these messages, one after another, over about 1 hour period o f time the iTunes just locked up completly. I had to use windows task master to close iTunes to unfreeze my system. An then had to shut down the computer to eject the iPod. Now my iPod says a 140 GB are used for other (no songs) and no music. The diagnostics screen now reads:
Retracts: 21
Reallocs: 120
Pending Sectors: 280
PowerOn Hours: 244
Start/Stops: 41383 (must have missed the power on hours the first time not the start stops) it may be right since it is 23 higher than last time
Temp: Current 25c
Temp: Min 21c
Temp: Max 254c
We will see what the Genius says at the apple store says but I am not holding out much hope here. I may try going back to an older version of iTunes and doing the DFU re-set again as that seemed to work until it tried to sync in iTunes 12.

When you connect your ipod up to the computer. It should show the device, usually with the name of the device, in my case 'jordan's ipod'. This should be on the row which shows 'songs', 'albums' e.t.c on the far right. There when you click on it it should go to a different screen showing a picture of your ipod along with two buttons - Update and Restore. Click update and it should take a 2 mins while your ipod is updated to the latest version of Ios.
After updating te ipod see if there is a change in results.
PS: make sure the device is active while syncing so keep tapping the screen.

Do you currently have the iCloud control panel installed? If so, uninstall that. Can you do the deletion now?

You have not provided any information on which to base troubleshooting. Minimal information would include the Model Mac mini you have for example Mid 2010 Mac mini, exactly what happened when iTunes crashed, and what -- if anything -- happens when you try to restart. It is unlikely iTunes has anything to do with the failure to reboot but instead iTunes crashed because of what even caused your Man mini to fail.
Just as a starting point, be sure and check all your connections, power, monitor, keyboard, mouse, everything. You would not be the first to have a plug come adrift unexpectedly.

Setesh, See if both computer has the same version of iTunes, if both are the same, then it is your PC, that has plug-ins which is in conflict it iTunes. ( normally it is the Antivirus or some plug-ins to beautify your screen)
If it is different, most likely the other PC has an older version of iTunes, so you should downgrade your iTunes to that older version, which your iPod interface well with.
Other probable causes,
you are using the USB 1.1 port at the front of your PC, and not the USB2,0 port at the back of your PC. so switch to the back.
Dont use any other USB devices, when you are syncing the iPod.
Dont use any USH Hub.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

I recently downloaded the most recent version of itunes, and now all my playlists are gone and when I try to sync my ipod it says that all of my music will be deleted because my ipod is syncd with a different library. I am afraid that this means that all my playlists will be deleted, and I don't want to have to go through all my music and make new playlists. I just want to keep what I have. How can I do this? Can I get rid of this version and go back to the one I had? Is there a way around this problem?

Your itunes purchases for music, etc are tied to your itunes account - any computer (up to 5) can be authorized with your iTunes account information. Enter your iTunes account name and password in the iPod - you don't say which version of iOS is on your iPod so more details can't be given until knowing that.

I just installed itunes for my new ipod mini, and while going through my library (my music) i received an error message that advised that there may be a problem with my hardware.
I managed to close itunes, and noticed that there were only 13 songs on my ipod mini, not 800. When I went to download more songs, I recieved the generic "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.
I rebooted my computer, and noticed that I got the same message for three other programs that load upon my computer startup. My windows messenger is also no longer working on my computer, but my internet is still ok.
I have Norton '05 and windows firewall, and have disabled both, to no avail. I have also uninstalled my ipod, and itunes/quicktime and still get the message. booting to last known good configuration doesn't help either.
This morning, my computer was fine, now everything is crashing upon startup, and I have no more messenger! Can somebody please help me!!!

Thanks for the reply. I think I figured out what happened. Somehow, when I installed the itunes/quicktime software or ipod hardware my computer managed to talk itself into thinking that the year was 9999!
I'm not sure if anybody else has come across this, or what changed the date, but my itunes seems to work now, as well as my MSN Messenger. I'm using the computer right now, and can't reboot, but I'm sure that when I do, it will be fine again.
I guess I have to laugh, after spending all night searching the registry and disabling software/hardware to test for conflicts that it was the date on my computer!

I suspect that now the iPod sees the computer/iTunes library as a new computer/library. Follow these instructions
