ITunes crashes and computer freezes

Over the past month or so when working on my computer iTunes has suddenly stopped playing and I'm confronted with the spinning beachball of death. Every other application freezes and I can't even force quit. The only option I have is to switch off and restart. Is anyone else having the same problem ? Are there problems with the latest version of iTunes ? Is there some syncing problem with iCloud causing this ? Can anyone offer some advice ?

Having found a working library file it may pay to copy it into the standard location and reconnect to it there. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for the steps I would normally have given.

What do you mean by encryption code?
- Do yu mean the for some reason when you want to restore from backup iTunes asks for the password?
- Do you mean that it has a screen-lock passcode and you do not remember the passscode?
Please provide more clear information. I do not really understand your poblem. I can't tell whee the music is, or what will not "upload".

My itunes crashes and I can't open it all. Just installed the latest version 10.5.1. I can't even get it to open to try and figure out what is wrong. Can I uninstall it and reinstall the less recent version which was working? Help!!
I am not a computer guru, the reason that I love my MacBook Pro is that I don't have to worry about it, now I am worrying, because I can't get into my itunes at all. I would trash the new version of itunes and find an older version (I did try reinstalling 10.5.1) as long as I was reassured that I wouldn't lose all my music.

On the software update panel, it's all about cloud service.
Looks like 10.5 is the end of the road for me.
I can see having gaming on cloud, but with the work I put into my tunes, no way.

You may want to try resetting Winsock as a temporary fix.
1. To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Right click All Programs and choose Accessories > Command Prompt. Choose to open as an administrator.
Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type in cmd.
2. Enter the following command:
netsh winsock reset
3. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note: If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.

Installed latest itunes update and computer tried to burn a playlist to CD and realized computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive. After doing some data mining, found out from community this is an long standing APPLE problem- which doesn't get much tech support in terms of fixes. I have an HPPavillion DV6 64 bit, Windows 7 OS . After reading an earlier complaint from 2009 in the support community, I ran diagnostics from ITunes which gave the following result. Can someone please help? (I'm not enough of a techie to know what I'm doing or how to locate /reinstall CD drivers. I am searching for driver disc but cannot locate.)

Doublechecking ... did you have CD/DVD drive tests checked when you ran those diagnostics? (I'm not seeing the CD/DVD test results down the bottom of the results where I'd expect to see them.)

My safari keeps crashing and/or freezing!

I have updated all my software but my Safari keeps crashing and/or freezing, so I have to force quit it. I don't know why it keeps doing this! Maybe I should start using a different internet browser? Help!

If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here.
If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
Post a crash report so we can try and help you.

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

ITunes crashed and I lost my downloaded games

I upgraded to iTunes 7 on my iMac and downloaded a game.
I never got it to my ipod before the application crashed and now it no longer appears in my iTunes library.
What can I do?

I have same problem. Bought a game, downloaded it to my mac - it showed up for about two seconds in Itunes and then Itunes crashed and the game disappeared.
I cannot sync my Itunes properly anymore. Songs and photos sync ok, but then it locks up!
Anyone know a fix?

I tried resetting to factory and that worked for a couple of hour then I ended up with iTunes crashing again. So I logged out and logged back in and so far so good. This has kept me working for 3 days now so I won't guarantee a fix but it seems to have worked.
Go to Settings->iTunes & App Store click on your login email and select logout. I closed all of my open apps at this time and restarted my phone which was probably an overabundance of caution, but I wanted to ensure any temporary files were gone. Log back in and hopefully all will work for you.

ITunes crashes and freezes Finder

It happens randomly and inconsistently. Sometimes it'll happen when I click on a song in my library. Sometimes it happens when I click to preview a song in the store.
When I Force Quit, it quits the application but the Dock still says it's open. Then it eventually freezes my Finder and I am forced to manually shut down my computer. I can't even play the songs in the Finder without it crashing either. It seems like a Quicktime issue. any thoughts??

I'm having the same problem on my MacPro with 10.6.x. I'm running iTunes 9.0.1 (9).
In my case I can replicate the problem EVERY time IF I do the following:
1. Start my MacPro
2. Plug my iPhone in
3. Wait for Sync to complete
4. Shutdown (just after sync, appears to be time sensitive)
Comes back with an error saying iTunes is still running and that I need to logout my user?? It should just force iTunes to quit when I do a shutdown. But it rather than shutdown, it actually prevents me from shutting down -- forced to logout my user and log my user back in.
Try changing these iTunes preferences and see if that helps:
1. Sharing | uncheck "Look for shared libraries"
2. Store | uncheck 3 items starting with "Automatic ..."
3. Devices | check "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically
4. Advanced | uncheck "Keep iTunes Media folder organized"
See if any of these prevent the problem.

ITunes and Computer freezes when ipod is connected

When I connect my video ipod to my computer (dell desktop) the system freezes, as in it will not respond to mouse clicks and keyboard (but can still get to task manager). When I unplug the ipod it comes back to life. Programs always freeze, but sometimes I am able to navigate within windows without it freezing, but as soon as a program is brought up, my computer falls to its knees.
I have the latest version of iTunes, and updater v. 1.1, (but I have not been able to update the firmware yet from v 1.0).
The odd thing is last night I was able to download several gigs worth of music to it without incident. I then tried to load movies (they were in the wrong format, but I didn't know it at the time), and so in an effort to correct that I uninstalled itunes, the ipod drivers, and the ipod updater programs several times.
I cannot update the ipod firmware because the computer freezes when the ipod is plugged in, so the program freezes as well. Kind of a catch 22 situation.
I have been over the forums and help archives for about an hour and a half now and I have come up dry.
Windows XP does recognize the ipod when the cable is connected, and the ipod flashes, "Do not disconnect", which it is supposed to do.
I suspect this is drivers/software, but I have no idea where to go from here.

That EXACT thing happened to me! 2 nights ago I'm downloading like crazy, all is well. I got on LimeWire and downloaded some videos and tried to put them on my iPod. Imported them into iTunes then tried to put em on my iPod and it completely wiped out all my songs! So I get back on, put the songs back in, and about half way through the update the thing freezes. I've re-installed everything, and have reset my iPod. Did you figure out what to do? Maybe your fix will fix my problem, too.
