ITunes Crashes both computers

HI!
I have a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro (13 inch).  It has been passed down from many people evantualy to me... I wiped the hard drive when I got it and it has worked fine since then.  Last week I built a gaming PC, because my mac's hard drive was failing (Making Noises, which I can detect; Preforming Slowly; can't load things, etc.) The problem was... I just got a new iPhone and couldn't sync my music.  So, I transfered my music to my new computer.  What would happen was the song would start playing normally on my mac, but halfway through, it would make everything on my mac not respond, continue more of the song, stop, and so on.  After I transfered, I could sync everything flawlessly, but I had the same problem on my brand new PC.  The songs stopped playing halfway through as the did on my mac.  I check task manager and the used memory went down for itunes and everything stopped responding.  I have tried everything and don't know what to do.  I am also a programmer so I don't know if that makes a difference

I had a similar problem problem on my MacPro (Snow Leopard, 64-bit) today. Had to do a hard shutdown and reboot.  I was Home Sharing (streaming) from my MacPro to my iPad and network interface on the MacPro locked down, which caused other programs (mail, safari) to lock up as well, which really shouldn't happen.
Not sure why it did it or how to make it not do that again...

I have used iTunes on a desk top with XP service pack 3 and have quite a bit of music on that computer.  Recently purchased laptop with windows Premium Home and am now laoding iTunes on the laptop.  How do I copy my music to the laptop and in the future how do I sync the music files on the two computers?  Do I need the same version of itunes on both computers?

    Quit iTunes on new computer.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /My Music/ on new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Thant is all you need to do.

  • I have my itunes set up on two different computers with different apps.  Today I am getting an iPhone, can I syn it to both computers?

I am receiving a new iPhone today and was hoping to be able to sync it to my laptop and desktop.  I have iTunes on both computers but my apps are on my desktop?  Is it possible to syn the the two computers with the one iTunes account?

An IPhone can be synched to one iTunes library only. So you'll have to copy all your content to one of the computers and use only that system for synching your iPhone.
    Regards.

  • Trouble using itunes on different computers at home

How can I get all my music from one computer on to another. Any time I try to sync my ipod it wants to wipe wants currently on my file.

Make sure that both computers are connected to the same network. Launch iTunes on both computers.
From the Advanced menu turn on Home Sharing using the same Apple ID on both computers.
At the computer that you want to move your music too select the shared library of the computer that currently holds the music. You will find the remote computer listed on the sidebar under the heading Shared. This should load the list of music from the remote computer. Select all the tracks from the remote computer and then click on the Import button in the bottom-right corner of the iTunes window.

  • Baught New Comp, how to transfer songs to both computers?

I just baught a new computer for college and have itunes on both computers...except the one at home has ALL my songs on it and this one im on now obviously has none...is there a way to get ALL my songs from my ipod mini onto this computer..WITHOUT wiping it out and deleting all my songs bc of the instant updating of the ipod problem? Friends have told me to go home and burn them all onto cds but i dont have a burner on that computer...and another friend who put her ipod into her new computer lost all her songs bc it updated it and i dont want that happening either...can anyone help me????

This is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply it to your specific situation and resources.
The safest and best way (in my opinion) to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure, rather than just copying the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important .ITL Library file (located directly in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (playlists, ratings, comments, playcounts, last played, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "My Music" folder from the old computer to the
    i exact same place
on the new one. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play counts, ratings, comments and all!
b It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
This process works best when cloning exact versions of iTunes, your music files and the iTunes meta-data files. It is also important to note that there is a new naming convention for the iTunes .ITL database file when moving from version 4.8 to 4.9. The ITL file is upward compatible, but not downward compatible (4.8 will choke on a 4.9 ITL file).
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
    1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step.
    2) Connect the two computers through a router. Or use a Crossover (PC-to-PC) or Direct (Mac) Ethernet cable (See: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html). Copy files between computers.
    3) Connect the two computers via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. See: here as an example.
    4) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.). It will be a bit easier if your iPod (or copy medium) has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers.
    5) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
    6) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #5 above and load the files on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
    7) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.

How to copy music between authorized computers

  • Itunes crashes on launch & installation

I got the following error report:
    offset 10001040.
I deleted previous installations both for Quicktime and Itunes. There's no conflict with antivirus software.
Still Itunes crashes both on installation and launch.

    hi Rob!
glad to hear you're up and running again.
i'm not sure why the QT 7 part of the itunes 5.0x installer bundle is being
    b more
temperamental than the QT 6.5.2 part of the old itunes 4.9 installer bundle (we used to have some similar problems, they just weren't as common). but when you've got two installs chained together like this (for any package), the risk of getting an installation problem goes up.
so, when i come across a machine which is having this trouble, i just try running the installs separately. if that doesn't work, i go to the more rigorous technique (which basically involves being as careful and gentle with a PC on an install or uninstall as possible, with a few extra bits of specific lessons from experience on the forums thrown in.) as i find out about new potential causes of the problems, i just update my "careful" procedures.
    love, b

  • ITunes on two computers, how can I sync from both

I guess what I want to do is sync Itunes amongst two computers.
When I got my Ipod for Christmas, at the outset I set up Itunes on my son's laptop. And up to this point I have been syncing from this computer.
Now I want to start to sync from my own laptop (actually I want to be able to sync from both computers) and not loose any content.
I do have the January software update and it was installed from my son's computer. I don't want to loose this update if I sync with my computer.
To date, my Ipod has worked flawlessly. I am hoping not to create a problem by introducting my Ipod to my laptop and trying to sync the Ipod from both computers.
I am not too technically inclinded, so I would appreciate any response to take this into account when replying. Thanks.

There is also an option in iTunes. Go to File>Back up to disc. It will then give you some options of what type of back up you want to do. And don't forget hat if you have music on your iPod that is a form of a back up as well. If it is purchased music from the iTunes store, and you loose your music from system crash or whatever. You can re-install iTunes and then connect you iPod and go to Store >Authorize Computer > enter password and then go to File> Transfer Purchases. Now if you have ripped music and loose it you can use any search engine and search for Ipod Ripper programs. These are third party softwares, so basically it means that they work but Apple does not endorse or support them. But trust me when I tell you if you get one that you have to pay a fee for they work.

Oops, I forgot a step between 7 and 8 ... before syncing the iPhone I need to explicitly send the document back to iTunes on the iPhone, or the changes won't come over at all ...
and then one more thing ... Numbers on iOS does NOT recognize a number of key features of the OSX app, such as conditional formatting ... so after editing my document on iOS and syncing it back to OSX on my Mac, all of those settings are lost (no more conditional formatting, have to do it all over again)
What am I doing wrong ?

movie i rented on itunes, downloaded on my pc does not show up on my mac book air. home sharing is turned on, and both computers are authorized. Help!

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • I have 2 itunes accounts - one work a/c and one home a/c, but when i sign in at home only my home songs appear even if I sign in my work a/c. I have authorised both computers to show both a/cs. How can I get my work a/c songs to appear at home?

I have 2 itunes a/cs one at work and one at home. Both computers are authorised for the 2 a/cs, but I can;t get my work a/c songs to show on my home computer, even though I sign in my work a/c, and I can't get my home songs to show up on the  work computer even though I sign in my home a/c. V. frustrating!

    Hi,
You will have to manually copy your music. Get a pen-drive big enough to accommodate all your music. And follow these steps:
    1. Create a new folder on the pen-drive.
    2. Copy the music from your work computer to the folder you just created. It's in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media>Music if you're using a Mac, or in C:\Users\(yourusername)\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music if you're using Windows.
    3. Now on your home computer quit iTunes, and copy your music from work to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder in (yourhomefolder)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media.
    4. Start iTunes. It will automatically start to process the files and move them to the appropriate place.
Repeat these steps with your music from home on your work computer. Also I suggest to use only one iTunes account if possible.
    Hope it helps
    Regards,
    Gábor

  • I have two libraries on separate computers. If i turned itunes match on in both computers would the two libraries merge? So if my iphone normally syncs with my laptop would i still only get the iphones library or would i get both as one?

I have two libraries on separate computers. If i turned itunes match on in both computers would the two libraries merge? So if my iphone normally syncs with my laptop would i still only get the iphones library or would i get both as one?

Yes, the two libraries should merge. However, you need to turn on match on one computer and let it finish before adding the second library.
Once you turn march on n your phone then you don't sync it with iTunes, but the merged library will show up on the phone. If you don't turn on match on your phone and continue to sync then all of the music from both libraries should be available to sync to it.
The only bit I can't confirm is what happens if you try to sync music to the phone which isnt actually downloaded into iTunes. Im not in a position to test that, but maybe someone else can help.

To get that much storage, you need to look to professional online services.  Pro-level hosting accounts may offer you that much (well, many will offer as much storage as you are prepared to pay for), or Amazon professional cloud services.  You could also store the files on a home machine and pay for a professional hosting service so you could stream them over your own account (assuming your ISP connection and agreement allows for the bandwidth used).  You would still need to deal with the issue of finding an app for the iPad that supported avi streaming.
