Itunes Crashes - Duplicate Podcast Libaries

I have a problem where itunes created a new unwanted 'podcast library'.
Now when I try to update or refresh any podcasts in the original 'podcast library', itunes crashes.
I have a mac mini powerpc G4 operating osx 10.5.8. My version of itunes is 10.6.3.
Here is what happened: I suscribed to a new podcast from an internet browser while itunes was closed.
When itunes opened I found that it had created a second  'podcast library' (visible above the previous 'library' on the top left-hand side of itunes).
I also noticed that the small highlighted oval which lists the number of podcast episodes had disappeared from the old 'podcast library'.
When I try to update or refresh a podcast from the existing 'podcast library', itunes now crashes. However, I can still listen to old podcasts.
I tried to manualy delete the new 'podcast library' by going to my itunes Library Folder, but found that there is only one folder named 'podcasts' and it is the original one. I tried re-installing itunes 10.6.3 but the unwanted 'podcast library' still appeared.
Has anyone had this problem before? Is there any way to delete a duplicate podcast library that itunes created?
Thank in advance for your help!

  • ITunes crashes on podcast tab?

I just installed the latest 10.2 iTunes and it will crash everytime I go to the Podcast tab. I use iTunes as my video podcast hub for the HD quality. Any ideas? Is there a way to go back to an older version of iTunes? Anyone else having this problem?

I found a fix for this problem. First I had itunes use one of my back libaries, the one on my bootable backup worked.  I ran itunes off this "itunes LIbray" file for awhile to confirm that everything worked. The problem with the podcast tab never showed up.
Then I went to my computer and deleted every "itunes library" file and everything else in the same folder. I don't know if this was necessary, but its what I did. I had attempted to delete and reinstall itunes, which did not work. I assumed the problem was in the contents or the itunes library files. Not wanting to waste more time, I took the brute force approach.
I then drag and droped the contents from my backup onto my computer. It took awhile to copy because I deleted all the contents. You may want to look at just deleting the "itunes library" files.  I deleted everything because I knew it was working on my backup.
Once everything is copied, then just redirect itunes to the old libray file location. i haven't had a problem for 3 days now.

    Hi Keithgspar1,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an issue where iTunes is quitting unexpectedly when working with podcasts. The article linked below provides a lot of great troubleshooting suggestions that can help you isolate and resolve the issue.

  • ITunes 5 Duplicate Podcasts

I occasionally run a File/Add Folder to Library command on my main iTunes folder (c:\Music). When I've done this, I always get duplicate entries in the Podcasts pseudo-playlist, each pointing at the same file. My Podcasts folder is in c:\Music\Podcasts.
There doesn't seem to be any other way to get iTunes to refresh it's view of what's in the music library if you've manually copied some MP3s there.

It may be a Mac only thing, because I don't see how to do it in iTunes for Windows.
You can export a podcast as a PCAST file by simply dragging and dropping the podcast entry onto the desktop. The PCAST format seems to be supported by a number of other podcast clients now, so that's always a possibility.

  • ITunes Crashes accessing Podcast directory

For the past 3-5 months in 10.4.x and 10.5.x accessing the podcast directory of my iTunes library results in an instant crash of iTunes. This really ***** as I was hoping the 10.5 upgrade would fix things. I was a podcast junkie and I've since gone cold turkey as a result of these technical problems.
Is there a fix to this? I'm currently using iTunes 7.6.2. I've even attempted to reinstall 7.6.2 with no luck.

  • Itunes always crashes on podcast update.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but the search didn't turn up anything that was relavent to my specific problem. As stated in the title, itunes crashes during podcast updates. It happened both before and after the version upgrade. Itunes works fine without the podcast updates, however, I would like to continue to get my episodes of "Ask a Ninja", which I find hilarious. Without fail, it will crash upon updates. Its not due to a particular podcast or nething because even when I update one by one, it will still crash. I can still import songs from CD's and update the pod itself.
    Thanks.

  • My itunes has created a duplicate podcast folder. How can I delete this? I can't sync my podcasts to my ipod because there are now two Podcast folders.

How do I delete the duplicate podcast folder? Because there are two podcast folders it is stopping my ipod nano from syncing when i plug it in.  I have searched the libraries on the hard drive but this extra podcast folder can't be found.

I have figured out a workaround that may work for you.  It doesn't address the cause of the problem but it has gotten me past the problem.  Note: Mac OSX
    1.  Make note of all of the podcasts that you currently have in each of your folders.  You will need this to get back to your current position if you choose.
2a.  Right click on the first of the two folders named Podcast.  (Command Click, two-finger tap, as appropriate.)  Delete should appear as an option.  Select it.  All of the contents and subscriptions in that folder will be lost.
On my system, Delete appeared as an option only on the first of the two folders named Podcast.
2b.  I deleted the contents of the second folder but, in retrospect, I don't think that was necessary.
    3.  You should now be left with just one Podcast folder.
    4.  Go to the iTunes store and resubscribe or download the podcasts you wish to restore.  All of the podcasts should appear in the one remaining podcast folder.  When I hit refresh to check, it did not crash this time.
    5.  Sync to your ipod.  I got a warning message about the mismatch, said ok and let the sync proceed.  It appears to have worked, as it did on my ipad.
Messy but it worked.  Hope it helps both you, evechoc and ifan94.
    Good luck!

  • ITunes crashed during sync, now Podcasts have sound but no video.

My wife has a 5th gen 30GB iPod. It has the latest system software from iPod Updater, and we're running the latest iTunes.
Yesterday she was doing a sync, and iTunes crashed on her in the middle of it. Now, even with an iPod Restore and reset, and a restart of her Windows XP machine, Podcasts won't play properly on the iPod. They play fine in iTunes, but only the audio portion plays on the iPod. Non-Podcast video (such as music videos) plays fine on the iPod.
    What happened here? What's wrong?
Thanks for any help in solving this.

    An update (and a solution):
Looks like the iTunes crash was only a clue as to what was happening elsewhere, and a slightly misleading clue at that.
Video Podcasts were placing themselves in the "Music" section on the iPod, and it was from there that we were attempting to play them. This worked just fine until iTunes's crash. After the crash, only the audio part would play.
It was only late last night that after lots of investigation my wife discovered that the video Podcasts were ALSO installing themselves into a "Videos > Video Podcasts" sub section!
It's stupidly obvious now, but was not yesterday: Video Podcasts will only play the audio portion when played from the "Music" section, but will play both audio and video when played from "Video > Video Podcasts". For some reason we had not discovered the "Video Podcasts" subsection until last night.
Then a second solution was discovered to have been necessary. One Podcast video still would not play properly, even from the correct section. This turned out to be due to a need to "Convert" it to play on the iPod. This page has the answer to that:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301461
iTunes online Help has all the answers to this, but we thought it was an iPod problem, and the iPod manual was no help at all. The answers to this in iTunes Help are found under:
    "Browsing and watching videos"
    and
"Converting a video to work with iPod"
It really helps to PRINT those two subjects, so you can refer to the paper page instead of trying to toggle back and forth between the iTunes screen and its Help screen.
I hope this topic helps someone else.

  • Can I get help with podcasts?  When I try to open the podcasts, itunes crashes, says "itunes has detected a problem and must close", or the spanish equivalent since my xp is in spanish.  everything else works fine, it even downloads podcasts and syncs.

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.

  • TS1717 iTunes crashed while removing duplicates

I sorted my library by song title, and manually selected about 100 duplicate songs. I then right clicked and clicked "Delete." Then I chose to remove the songs from the library and disk. iTunes crashed. When restarted the library indicates missing files for those songs I wanted totally deleted. I checked some and the files are indeed deleted.
Any advice on how to successfully remove these duplicates and how to fix my library would be appreciated.

    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You should be able to select all the tracks in this playlist with CTRL-A and then remove them from iTunes with CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE.
Or use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
As for tidying up duplicates, I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • ITunes Crashes When I Try To Get Podcasts

Every time I try to access the Podcast category, I get the message that iTunes is connecting to the Music Store, and then iTunes crashes completely. Does anyone know why this happens or how I can resolve it?

  • I have two podcast menus and iTunes crashes when sync'ing

I have used iTunes for my podcast subscriptions for years, but suddenly after donwloading a new podcast, i now have two podcast menus i my navigation bar.
I moved the last podcast from podcasts to books hence it was an audiobook, but the menu item remains, and i no longer get the count for items i havent listned to, yet.
Furthermore, the last downloaded podcast still remains in the menuitem but without any media in it.
I have now deleted the podcast container, and restarted iTunes, but all that got me was two podcast menus where one is just empty.
Finally, iTunes crashes everytime i try to sync my podcast subscriptions, iTunes crashes
I' running Lion 1.7.2 (with server) and iTunes 10.5.3 and no updates are available in either the appStore nor software update.
Everything (except Server) is in Danish.
Anyone have an idea on what to do?
    /Michael H.

He he.  A little while later, I found this post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3631661?start=0&tstart=0
Which helped me a bit to solve it that way.  Apparently iTunes thinks that the original Podcast entry in the Library is a kind of playlist, which can be deleted.  The new one can't.  So, I needed to resubscribe to my podcasts in the new one and delete the old (right click/control click) on the Podcast item and choose delete.
So there may be two ways to fix it. Hope this post helps out others in the future.

  • ITunes 10.5 crashes on podcast refresh

This problem has occured for 3 days now.
iTunes seems to have created a second Podcast playlist when I subscribed to a new podcast and when I attempt to refresh the previous list, iTunes crashes.
I don't want to connect my iPod in case iTunes wipes the podcasts off!
I'm thinking my options are rolling back to 10.4 or deleting the "old" podcasts list and importing the files from my hard drive.
    Any advice?
    OS: Lion 10.7
    iTunes version: 10.5

  • My itune crash whenever it download podcast after upgrade to 11.3.1.2, I was it Win 7

After upgrade to 11.3.1.2, my itune crash whenever I try to download podcast. I am now in Win 7, the itune and those podcasts has been here for a long time. (not newly add)

I think I have found a "fix" to the problem on Win7.
My problem was : When I refresh my podcast in Itunes 11.3.1.2 on Windows 7, Itunes crashed.
I try many different things in order to "fix" the crash, but I think the key thing is renaming or deleting this folder
    C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    to something else like
    C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunesBak
From what I observe this affected how Itunes's UI was displayed and not much else, but I would strongly suggest to backup your stuff before doing this.
Others steps I did thay may have helped address the issue is uninstalling Itunes and reinstalling it. Renaming the Itunes folder in the music folder
    ex: C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes to C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunesBak
    and then copying
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
from the "ItunesBak" folder to the "Itunes" folder. NOTE!! All my mp3 files are in a specific folder on my drivem if you are using the default settings don't forget to copy your media library.
    Good luck!
