Itunes crashes during sync

Just about every time I modify playlists and try to sync to either my Touch or Nano I end up spending HOURS trying to determine which new selection causes the sync process to crash. I end up doing binary searches by dividing the playlist in half, then in half again and again until I find the troublemaker, but I must be missing something. There must be a better way.
The problem selection always plays just fine in Itunes on the desktop system.
What am I stupidly overlooking?
Thanks!

With your particular one, Christian, there's a bug with 10.1.0.54 that is causing "iTunes has stopped working messages" (citing CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Problem Reports for the error) for some folks when importing CDs with the AAC encoding, adding/converting files to AAC, and in some cases syncing devices.
Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
(1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though).
(2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
(3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12583499&#12583499
(2 and 3 do help with the device-syncing variation.)

  • ITunes crashed during sync, now Podcasts have sound but no video.

My wife has a 5th gen 30GB iPod. It has the latest system software from iPod Updater, and we're running the latest iTunes.
Yesterday she was doing a sync, and iTunes crashed on her in the middle of it. Now, even with an iPod Restore and reset, and a restart of her Windows XP machine, Podcasts won't play properly on the iPod. They play fine in iTunes, but only the audio portion plays on the iPod. Non-Podcast video (such as music videos) plays fine on the iPod.
    What happened here? What's wrong?
Thanks for any help in solving this.

    An update (and a solution):
Looks like the iTunes crash was only a clue as to what was happening elsewhere, and a slightly misleading clue at that.
Video Podcasts were placing themselves in the "Music" section on the iPod, and it was from there that we were attempting to play them. This worked just fine until iTunes's crash. After the crash, only the audio part would play.
It was only late last night that after lots of investigation my wife discovered that the video Podcasts were ALSO installing themselves into a "Videos > Video Podcasts" sub section!
It's stupidly obvious now, but was not yesterday: Video Podcasts will only play the audio portion when played from the "Music" section, but will play both audio and video when played from "Video > Video Podcasts". For some reason we had not discovered the "Video Podcasts" subsection until last night.
Then a second solution was discovered to have been necessary. One Podcast video still would not play properly, even from the correct section. This turned out to be due to a need to "Convert" it to play on the iPod. This page has the answer to that:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301461
iTunes online Help has all the answers to this, but we thought it was an iPod problem, and the iPod manual was no help at all. The answers to this in iTunes Help are found under:
    "Browsing and watching videos"
    and
"Converting a video to work with iPod"
It really helps to PRINT those two subjects, so you can refer to the paper page instead of trying to toggle back and forth between the iTunes screen and its Help screen.
I hope this topic helps someone else.

  • Itunes crashed during sync and now it wont sync my apps?????

i was syncing my itunes and was updating my itunes which i minimized away, and then suddenly itunes crashed and itunes kept updating i closed the update and went back on and finished the sync but some apps i purchased werent there. i have since updated itunes thinking that would help but no luck there. how can i fix this?

In iTunes, go to the App store and download the apps again.
If you log in with the same account that they were purchased with, you will not have to pay for them again.
Golden rule, do not try to update the itunes software at the same time syncing your phone.
I would expect iTunes to want to shut its self down while updating and if you are syncing at the same time, then its very possible to loose all your info. You were probably lucky only to loose some Apps

  • ITunes crashing during sync with iPhone 4

i can't figure it out. sometime i can get it to sync, sometimes not. been working with this for two days now. i've got a fresh itunes, fresh snow leopard, fresh iphone restore. everything has been re-done, but when i sync with itunes, it crashing in the middle of the sync. if i stop the sync, then change a setting like sync no music, or sync podcasts, it doesnt crash, but on a normal autosync i get a crash. anyone got any ideas?

after much trial and error i have discovered that the problem lies in the iphoto sync portion. i'm still not sure why, but disabling it appears to solve the issue. not how to i get my photos back on it?

  • ITunes crashed during transfer purchases now says This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device

The problem that have started when I was going to sync my iPhone 4 with current iTunes running on 64bit Windows 7.
I started iTunes and plugged in my iPhone.
All looked good and the iPhone came up as the device as it should have.
Next I wanted to transfer purchases prior to syncing so I started the Transfer Purchases process.
iTunes stopped working during the Transfer Purchases process
Now when I plug in my iPhone iTunes takes me to the “setup your iPhone” screen and displays “This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device” and only allows me to restore and old backup or setup as new.
Obviously some files were not closed properly when iTunes crashed during the transfer purchases process, how can I cleanup iTunes so that it will allow me to backup and sync my phone.
I am a software developer and am sure that a fix is not in the menu options   What I am saying is that I can easily remove or edit corrupt files to get it working.
    Thanks, Mike

The error message you're seeing is likely the other way around -- i.e. something like "This iPhone has previously been synced with a different computer".   There's no problem syncing multiple iOS devices to the same computer.
However, the reverse is not true for the iPhone --  you cannot connect an iPhone to another computer without it being erased, even if you manually manage music and video.  So, it sounds like you've been syncing your iPhone to a different computer?
Also, 5.1 (not 5.0.1) is the latest iOS.

  • Why dose iTunes 10.4.1.10 crashes during sync in windows 7?

I have an issue with iTunes 10.4.1.10, apparently it crashes just before the sync process finishes. It all started after the last iTunes update. Running windows 7 64bit, what are my options to correct this issue?

Same thing is happening to me when I sync my ipad2 with iTunes 10.4.1.10 using Windows Vista Basic. Previously it worked but now for some reason, it crashes during sync of photos. I can sync a few photo directories at a time, but when I try to sync all photo directories or more than some magical number of photos, it crashes. I would love to find out what I can do about this.

  • ITunes Crashes When Syncing iPhone or iPod

I am running iTunes 8.0.2 and I am having problems syncing both my iPhone and iPod to my Mac via iTunes. When I connect either device and start the sync process iTunes will crash to the desktop and then ask me if I would like to relaunch it. There are no error codes of any kind but it does give me the option to report the incident to Apple (which I have done twice now). I've tried restarting the Mac, I've tried rebooting both the iPhone and the iPod but every time I connect either one and initiate sync, iTunes crashes to the desktop. I am not experiencing any other anomalies in iTunes and everything seems to work fine between iTunes and my Apple TV including syncing. Anyone else seeing this behavior - it just started today out of the blue. Is there a way I can reset iTunes without losing my music library? Also, when I synced the iPhone to iTunes and it crashed I discovered later that iTunes has lost two of my paid applications out of iTunes and deleted them off the phone as well. As best as I can tell they are gone. What the heck is going on here?

This is probably the same issue as this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885983&tstart=0
Itunes 8.0.2 crashes during sync to iPhone or iPod with the EXCBADACCESS exception. The problem does not affect Apple TV syncing.
No word from apple yet, but it seems to be a widespread problem.

  • ITunes crashes when syncing iPhone 4

Im on windows 7, have itunes 10.5.3.3 version and now im trying to sync my iphone 4 to get my music and everything else, but everytime I try to sync my phone, itunes crashes. I didn't have this problem before, but after I upgraded it won't let me sync. I have tried removing the .plist files, uninstalling itunes completely and reinstalling, but I keep on getting the same error. I will really appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance

Just started crashing on me too! I just updated an iPhone 3Gs that I was converting to an iPod, since I now use a 4s. iTunes crashed during the phone reboot phase during the final stage of the software/hardware update. Now, I can launch iTunes, but as soon as I click on the iPhone icon, iTunes immediately crashes. It initially opened a "send crash report to Apple" dialog, but now it doesn't. I tried the same thing with my 4s and it crashes immediately as well. I have deleted all iTunes prefs with no improvement. I have the latest version of iTunes (just updated it a couple of days ago).  I see several "iTunes crashes on sync" threads on these forums, but none with many responses and I've found no solutions so far. What a pain.

  • Itunes crashes while syncing music

    Goodmorning everyone,
I have a problem with my Iphone 3g 16gb 4.2.1 OS, because it refuses to sync music with my Itunes (10.4).
Ever since I downloaded Itunes 10.4 my Itunes crashes during the music synchronisation process. Everything else it synchronises perfectly, even my restored apps and my contacts and emails. However as soon as i try to sync music or podcasts I get a windows 7 error saying:
"Itunes is not working anymore, it needs to be shut down" in dutch then. With no error codes or what so ever, no explanation where it goes wrong or something that causes the error.
    I tried:
    * Deleting all itunes or apple related software and reinstalling itunes 10.4 from the download site of apple.
    * Trying to select only a few music files to synchronise which I know are still on this laptop
What am I doing wrong and is there anyone that can help me? Because now i am stuck with a iphone without music
    Thanks on forehand,
    Regards,
    Boudewijn

I'm having the same problem--iTunes crashes when it tries to sync music and podcasts to my iPhone 4. I've only had this problem since I installed Itunes 10.4.1.0. I'm hoping they'll come out with a 10.4.1.1 that fixes it...
I'm a little surprised that they don't have an option to submit crash diagnostic data. I'd be happy to share it with you guys, Apple!

  • Itunes Crashed During Download-Can't Resume Download

First, I am running Vista with a SATA drive. I download episodes of "The Office" to that drive them copy to a network location and play the files from there. This has worked the last couple of episodes. I am running version 7.0.2.16.
When I downloaded episode 19, itunes crashed during the download. Now when I check on the store icon in itunes, I get the message that "all purchases have been downloaded for this account". How can I get the episode I have paid for as part of a season pass?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Making Vista and itunes play together so far has been more trouble than it is worth.

    Jim,
If you can't resolve it, you might just need to ask the iTunes store to let you re-download it. Log into your account on iTunes, go to Account Information, click on Purchase History, go to the download in question, and click "Report a Problem."
The iTunes Store is real understanding about letting folks try to re-download an item if they have already purchased it.

  • Itunes crashes when syncing Ipad with mp4 movies in photo folder for keynotes

I'm trying to upload a small MP4 video onto my Ipad to use in Keynotes. I place the video in the photo folder and select sync, then tunes crashes.
I had created the video in Corel Video Studio pro 3 and created MP4 file. Copied to the IPAD and had it all working. I then made changes to the video and reconverted and now Itunes crashes when syncing.
    Itunes 10.4.1.10 Ipad 4.3.5
    Please help urgent

I had the same problem, and it turns out that the problem is having the same file into different folders. For example I had an MP4 in iTunes, and the same file in the photos folder that was being updated to the iPad. So I just removed one file and it syncs perfectly.

  • I have an iphone with the app GOOD to read e-mails.  I sync to my other PC having first updated itunes.  During sync it reported that it had removed GOOD, with out asking.  Any ideas?

With the iPhone, you can sync all iTunes content with only one computer.  Trying to sync iTunes content with a second computer will result in iTunes erasing the content from the first computer.

  • ITunes crashes upon syncing music to iPhone 3GS iOS4

I recently bought an iPhone 3GS and upgraded it to 4.1. Whenever I try and sync my music, iTunes will crash - I get the "iTunes has encountered an unexpected error and has to close" message, with the Windows report screen popping up and all that. This is only when I sync my music - applications and contacts sync fine (I do not sync videos/photos/voicemails so I have those all unchecked). I only sync one selected playlist (not my whole library).
I am using iTunes 10, running on Windows XP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times (including downgrading to 9.2 at one point) but I continue to get the same result - iTunes crashes upon syncing music. I just did a fresh restore, and this has not fixed the problem.
I have tried splitting up my 550 song playlist that I normally sync to my iPhone, but when I did this (it was only about 250 songs) iTunes crashed again towards the end. It has been crashing whether or not I have the "Convert to 128 kbps AAC" checked or not. It crashes somewhere in the middle of "Copying X out of X."
Note As of typing this, I successfully synced a separate 58-song playlist WITH "Convert to 128 kbps AAC checked." However, I then tried to sync a different 61-song playlist WITHOUT that checked and iTunes proceeded to crash. After this, I tried syncing the 58-song playlist again WITHOUT the Convert checked and it synced perfectly without crashing.
    Recap:
Playlist #1 (550 songs) - Crashes WITH OR WITHOUT convert checked
Playlist #2 (58 songs) - Syncs perfectly with or without convert checked
Playlist #3 (61 songs) - Crashes without "Convert..." checked (have not tested with "Convert..." checked, it's late and I have to head to bed soon and I want to get this post up).
Considering this information, would it be reasonable for me to assume that it's some of the songs in my library that are making iTunes crash? If so, how the heck am I supposed to figure which songs are causing this? I really hope I do not have to sit here as iTunes syncs and watch our for every song it crashes on...
Does anyone have any suggestions? I've scoured these boards but I haven't found anyone with the same situation as me, and thus no answers.
So frustrated. Even my old iPhone 2G on OS 3.0 syncs my music perfectly!!

I am back to attempting to sync my music. iTunes continues to crash on certain songs, however I have also noticed another problem - each time I attempt to sync my main playlist (after deleting the song it crashed on last time), it will say Copying X out of like, 96 or some number that is nowhere near the real count of songs on the playlist.

  • My iTunes locks during sync.

My iTunes locks during sync. I am using Windows 7 and iPhone 4s. It almost completes and says "Waiting to copy." I forcibly end iTunes and open again with the same locking problem. I used another cable and the same thing.
    Any suggestions?

Check out this thread -> Syncing stays on 'waiting for items to copy' with iOS 5
Some people in that thread suggest unchecking "Include voice memos," just click the iPhone on the left side of iTunes, click Music across the top, then you'll see the voice memo option.

  • ITunes 10.4 crash during sync and update.

A few days ago or so i tried syncing some new songs from iTunes (on my hp laptop with windows 7 64) into my 64gb ipod touch 4g.  However, about halfway through the sync itunes displays that it has stopped working and closes soon afterwards.  I first tried syncing and unsyncing all my music and then resyncing it. No dice.  The sync still quits about halfway through.  I looked for any corrupt mp3s however all play fine and the sync quits on a diffrent file every time.  When i tried to restore itunes began looking for a ios update despite the latest version already being installed, the download will not complete and itunes crashes in a similar fashion.  The ipod is not the problem and can be synced and restored through itunes on a different computer.  I have completly uninstalled and reinstalled itunes many times including all components and files even registry entries.
here is a copy of the problem report.

I have also run the system file checker, memory and harddrive cecks, and defragmented my hard drive.  I have checked the ipod drivers removed any itunes plugins and checked the connections for itunes with its diagnostic tool.  All have comeback fine.
If it helps i have noiced that installing itunes from the internet directly does not install the program, i must then use the apple software update to get itunes so i have not been able to try previous versions of itunes.
