ITunes crashes in windows 8.1 preview

iTunes 11.0.4.4 will not run under Windows 8.1 Preview. iTunes will open and then I will get a "stopped working" dialog. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but it still won't run. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix for this?

Had a similar issue related to installing iTunes on Windows 8.1 Preview.  The installer would get part way through and then just hang.
I did several things around the same time, so I'm not sure which one fixed the problem.  Here's the things that happened from when I had the problem to when it seemed to go away, though.
* Rebooted after failed install
* Updated the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client from v3.1.02040 to v3.1.04059.  Seems that there is an issue with the earlier version related to Shutdown/Rebooting in the Windows 8.1 preview.  Could be related due to how much it mixes in with network communications?
* Rebooted again
* Deleted the iTunes installer and downloaded the latest over again (11.0.4.4 as you mentioned)
* Ran the iTunes installer (64-bit) with a Right-Click and "Run as Administrator"
Everything went smoothly on this last attempt, iTunes is working, and music is playing back just fine.  I had originally tried Compatibility mode, but abandoned that on the final attempt.  Sorry I can't be more clear as to what exactly fixed it for me.

If the problem is iTunes slowing down and not appearing to run correctly, you should check  this Apple article out-> Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
You may want to try resetting Winsock as a temporary fix.
    1. To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Right click All Programs and choose Accessories > Command Prompt. Choose to open as an administrator.
Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type in cmd.
    2. Enter the following command:
    netsh winsock reset
    3. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note:  If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.

  • ITunes Crashes in Windows 8.1

I can only play about 5 songs on my PC before iTunes just goes quiet.  The entire application doesn't crash b/c I'm able to close it.  It just stops playing and the player buttons become inoperable.  I have to close and re-open iTunes to get it playing again.  Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks, Lisa

  • ITunes crashing when listening to music previews

Has anyone else experienced this problem. I have no problems accessing the Music Store - even if it is slower then usual - but everytime I try to listen to a song preview my iTunes crash. I'm not totally sure, but I believe the problems started with iTunes 7.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I have the same problems. Before i tunes 7 everything worked fine. Now it takes ages to listen to one song. I get messages like re buffering or network stalled. I tried everything that Apple suggested but nothing worked. I also have a pretty fast broadband connection.

iTunes and QuickTime have never been supported on the 64-bit version of Windows (look here for the official statement). Some people have managed to get it working (at least tolerably), but from what I've read, a recent update from Microsoft has caused a lot of problems. You might try rolling back recent Windows updates and see if you can get things working again.

    Hi there
My iTunes crashes everytime on loading on my windows 7 PC. The problem event name is AppHangB1.

  • Converting QuickTime Videos For iPod, iTunes Crashes on Windows

I was trying to convert some Quick Time movies (RvB Seasons 1-3) for my iPod, this is not my first time doing this but this is the first time I am having this problem. One day I open iTunes and try to convert these movies, like 10 seconds later the windows thing comes up and says “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close” in the technical stuff it gave me it pointed to quicktimeessentials.qtx as the problem. So I searched for this file and deleted it Problem Solved! Or at least I though so when iTunes was able to convert my videos but now no Quick Time video will play right, so then I put the Quick Time file back where it was supposed to be, I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing. Somebody Please Help!
    HP Pavilion zd8000   Windows XP

    hiya!
I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing.
just checking. is it currently crashing with that message when you try to launch itunes, or just when you try to convert those videos?
if it's just when you convert those videos, let's check to see if it's a problem with every file, or just the ones you have at the moment. will itunes crash if you try converting the sample file from this document?

  • MacBook 7,1 CS4206a audio driver crashes on Windows 8 Developer Preview

    I'm experiencing crash on about every 20minutes on Windows 8 Developer Preview.(MacBook 7,1 late 2010 model)(BootCamp 4.0.0 installed)
It seems that Built-In audio driver is the one that causes the problem.
I disabled CS4206a driver in Driver Manager to prevent that.
But I really want my sounds back.
I've also tried CS4207driver from Cirrus Logic, and a old driver.
but none seems to be helping.
    Any advice??

Thank you all for the replies. Unfortunatly, I found that audio driver is not the problem.
After disablling, removing the audio driver from the system32/drivers, the time til to get crash has indeed EXTENDED, but it still crashes..
misalaram, thank you for the idea. Formatted windows 8 and installed JUST the graphics card driver directly from the nvidia. Still crashes..
I think it is sort of like kernel panic. Which microsoft has said that they implemented multi-tasking capable kernel. I think somthing is unstable..
