ITunes crashes on song load
Last week, I checked the option for iTunes to organize my music library. Since then, iTunes has crashed almost every time I try to start a song. It sometimes takes two or three tries before iTunes will finally play a whole song, after which I'm usually good for the rest of the day.
I've read that I can just create a new library, but doesn't this delete my song count and song data (like when a song was added)?
Have you tried the following?:
- Close the frozen itunes using task manager
- In task manager go to the 'process' tab
- Find and select 'APSDaemon.exe' (there were 2 of them running for me).
- Click 'end process' then close the task manager
- Re-open iTunes.

I have an older ipod which many years ago I loaded my music from Itunes on another computer. . .that computer crashed. . .I now have a new Itunes account and music loaded on another computer. . I would like to add songs onto my ipod. . .can this be done?
Not without erasing what is currently on the iPod first, since an iPod can only be synced with one computer/iTunes library at a time.
A better way to go about it, is to copy everything currently on the iPod to your new iTunes library first. Then connect it to iTunes and either choose the Erase and Sync option or restore the device to allow it to start syncing with the new library.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Itunes crashed before songs downloaded
I just attemped to purchase an album but itunes crashed before my songs were downloaded. I was using a gift card and the amount of the total album was deducted from my card but I only one song from the album successfully downloaded to my itunes library.
Does anyone know how to deal with this situation? I'm feeling a little frusterated.
Thanks!Select 'Check for Purchases...' in the Advanced menu in the menubar.
If your downloads were not completed, they should resume.
Hope this helps.

ITunes crashes when songs are played.
I've been without iTunes on my work computer for some time, and I miss it dearly. I tried again, hoping maybe a new version was out that would fix the problem. Anyway, here's what's going on and what I've done so far.
When I start iTunes it opens normally and I can move around playlists and such easily. When I go to play music, it plays for maybe ten seconds before coming up with the 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close' message and crashes the program. Looking through the threads the most common solutions have not helped.
- There's no Norton or other software firewall program running.
- I've installed the standalone version of Quicktime.
- I can run quicktime by itself just fine.
- I've done MSCONFIG and unselected everything except the two for iTunes.
Any other ideas on what could be wrong?gaaaah. i've seen that before once or twice with a pref files problem. (for some reason, itunes can't generate one or the other of them, which can produce similar symptoms to having a damaged preferences file.)
okay, let's try enlisting some additional technical help.
we'll get a crash log from itunes, and send it to so someone who can interpret crash logs.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
drwtsn32 -i
And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
generate the crash, collect the crash log, and send it to this email address
in the email:
(1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using. (go into your "Help > About iTunes" to doublecheck.)
(2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can. -
When trying to play a song on Banshee, I get no sound followed eventually (after I click play a few times and meddle with options) by a crash. VLC media player seems to play fine. Log of its operation below.

It didn't crash, but still refuses to play anything. It hung when I closed the window, so I killed it with ^C. We're getting somewhere though! I also tried doing su -c "chown -R me /home/me/Music".
...Perhaps I am missing codecs. I'll try and figure out how to install them onto Banshee/GStreamer.
EDIT: Tried su -c "pacman -S gst-plugins-good gst-plugins-bad gst-plugins-ugly". No dice, still refusing to load songs. Also, it's no longer writing info to the standard output, and I can't get a log of operations.
EDIT: Just dumb, resolved my nonissue and got a new op log:

Windows XPHi Matt,
You are not alone. Are you trying to load itunes 7.0.1? I updated to that last weekend and now my ipod has disappeared from my computer and Quicktime won't play. Tech support chat had me uninstall and reinstall about 4 times, no luck. I truly believe Apple has a problem with this version, I see many, many other on these discussion groups with same problem as yours and mine. I called Apple store last night and they told me yes, some are having problems. They told me to bring in my computer! What a joke, but I may just do it so they can see. Good luck, wish I could give you some advise other than it's not your fault! -
Hi there
My iTunes crashes everytime on loading on my windows 7 PC. The problem event name is AppHangB1.
I have installed the most recent version of iTunes onto this PC. It is a new installation. I have tried to import an iTunes folder elsewhere on my network, and when I start the program I get the message that it is 'determining gapless playback' - it whizzes through some tracks and then crashes 100% of the time.
Help!!
Many thanks
AndyTry this one and see if it helps:
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

recently purchased itunes match .but now every time i turn on itunes it starts to load song ect but after 5min or so it crashes and turns off
Hi,
I suggest that you open iTunes and hold shift key whilst signing out of match. Now close iTunes and reboot computer. Launch iTunes and then turn on match. You will be asked to add this computer. Do so. Let match process complete.

Same Ipod recognized twice by iTunes, crashes when deleting songs off iPod.
I know that others have had this issue but there was never an answer and it was awhile back so I figured I'd post a new message. Everytime I sync my iPod it is recognized twice by iTunes. What I mean by this is that it looks as if I am syncing two iPods with the same name at the same time, although upon examination there contents appear different (when looking at the color bar that shows how much of the iPod is video, music, other, etc...) In addition, if I attempt to delete a song or songs off of the iPod, Itunes crashes but with no error message, just straight to the desktop, no questions asked. I know this is not a problem with drive letters as I have already checked that out and Windows is only recognizing the iPod once as the Q drive and no other drive shares that letter. Can someone please help? (or will my question end up in the iTunes message board graveyard of unanswered problems like so many others?)
so yeah i just tried that... didnt work. I changed the drive letter from G: to I: and no dice. This is all after i used msconfig to disable all third party services that automatically load at windows start up. Yet once again, those weren't the problem. So i completely uninstalled itunes, redownloaded, and then reinstalled the newest version with the third party services still disabled. Once again, itunes crashes : /
my friend is coming over in a bit and im going to see if i can successfully connect to her itunes. Only other options right now i feel i have is to pay apples sorry *** $30 to help me solve this over the phone.. or i can restore my ipod, then try again : ( any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated : ) -
ITunes crashes when I try to play a song
I downloaded the new version of iTunes last night. Now (like a lot of people here), my iTunes doesn't work right. The iTunes store loads OK, and I can still download music. But whenever I try to play a song iTunes crashes, and I get the Microsoft box that pops up and says that an "unexpected error" has occurred, and iTunes must close, then asks if I want to send a report or not. This also happens when I try to preview a song before buying. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime, but that did not correct anything. Any ideas?
I've seen this happen with iTunes Third party add-ons/plug-ins being installed. Do you have any of those?
Try this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300063
I want to check on some other issues, also, that have to do with iTunes library files or preference files. This next fun experiment is going to be more of a diagnostic procedure aimed at working out if they may be involved at all.
Go over into your User accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. While you're in that control panel, switch off "Fast Switch", or whatever its called, in your logging-in preferences.
Now go log out of the old account and log into you new account.
Open up iTunes. You'll see a blank library screen in the new account. Import over some songs into the library in that new user account. (If possible, use the ones that you know will crash itunes in the other account.)
Does you iTunes crash in the new account when songs are played? -
My family shares an itunes account and ALL their songs loaded on my phone with ios 7 upgrade. Previously, while I could SEE songs "Not on this iPhone" they did not reside on my phone. How do I get only my songs? Do I have to sync with my computer? Help...
This is sad, as I am replying to myself. Upon further review I see that while all songs are LISTED, that are not actually there. By going to Settings - iTunes & App Store - "Show All" I was able to "turn off" SEEING purchases not made on my phone. Solved my own problem, but the way it looks in IOS 7 is confusing.

When I was syncing my iphone 4 to my computer my itunes crashed and was looping from one song to another. so i tried all the suggestions and had to reset my iphone which wiped out all my songs. when I went to purchases my recent song purchases from itunes where gone.. how do I get them back or get credit for them..
nevermind, i figuered it out

ITunes crashes when selecting songs for importing from CD - any clues?
I'm running XP Pro on a Dell Latitude 620 with the latest version of iTunes.
When I put a CD in, iTunes shows me the tracks. But as I am selecting tracks to play (double-clicking on them), randomly iTunes crashes. Not immediatly repeatable, but it always happens within 5 minutes or so of selecting songs.
Any clues out there?I had removed a couple of those artists and later replaced them with backups from a separate hard drive and it didn't help. I was going to ditch and replace all of them today to see if that made a difference. However, before I did, I thought I'd check a couple of things as far as renaming the artists was concerned. So I added a number to one problem artist's name, then tried opening it in the 'Artist' list. It worked fine. I went back, removed the number, and tried opening it again. Worked fine again. So I checked the other problem artists, without altering the names. They all open just fine. Problem solved! Well, not solved but mysteriously gone away, at least for now.
I think you're right about a faulty link being the problem, and I suppose something I did reestablished that link. Don't know what it was though, so I'm afraid I can't offer a solution to anyone else with a similar problem. -
I downloaded several cds to my external hard drive in .mp3 format. Later, I copied them to iTunes. The songs only play when the external hard drive is plugged in. I tried to load the songs from iTunes to my iPhone and the songs don't play. I thought iTunes allowed me to transfer music to my iPhone and play it. What am I doing wrong?
Hi skoorb1,
When adding music to iTunes, you can set it to either make a local copy of the file, or simply point to the original location of the file (for example, on an external hard drive). If it is set to do the latter, it will not be able to play or transfer those files when the external hard drive is not plugged in. You may find the following article helpful:
