ITunes crashes when I access playlists

Like others after updateing to latest version of iTunes 10.6, iTunes crashes only after I try to access playlists that have artwork.  It seems I can get to the library if I leave it in list view.  But unfortuneately those playlists that are saved in grid view will crash the program before I can change the view type.  So I this point I cant see any of my playlists although the info is there.  My audio and video library is stored on external drives.  It seems like a loading issue pulling up file data across multiple drives.
Anybody have any thoughts?

I also have problems with iTunes crashing, though I doubt your problem has to do with accessing the drives.  I believe it's a more basic code problem with the new update.  All I have to do is hit the grid button when I am shuffling through my entire library and the program crashes - guarunteed.

I am running iTunes 8.0.2.20 on Windows XP Pro 3. Just recently I am finding iTunes crashes frequently, specifically when I am editing playlists. Is there some way I could debug this and identify why this might be happening? I have a nearly fresh install of XP.
Is there some way I could glean information from the crash reports (whereever they may be?)

  • Itunes crashing when I open playlists. What do I do?

Everytime i try and open playlists Itunes crashes. I have restarted it, updated it etc I'm on Windows 7.

Try opening iTunes in safe mode by holding down CTRL+SHIFT when starting iTunes. Can you access the playlists now? Do you have the sidebar enabled (CTRL+S)? Have you tried a complete rebuild of iTunes as outlined in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates?

  • ITunes crashes when I access iTunes Store/get Microsoft error message

I run iTunes on XP. I can open/play/synch iTunes just fine.
But over the last two days, as soon as I access the iTunes Store, I get a Windows error message (that iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close, etc.). The event viewer indicates that the faulting module is usually an Application Error ("Faulting application itunes.exe, version 9.1.1.12.faulting module webkit.dll.version 5.31.22.7, fault address 0x000f24de") followed a few seconds later by a problem with the Bonjour Service.
The odd thing is, I can log into iTunes Store to check the details of my account such as credit card billing address.
I reinstalled the latest iTunes but that's not fixing the problem.

  • ITunes crashes when trying to access iTunes Store

iTunes "crashes" when I try to access the iTunes Music store - I get all the current albums on the lower half of the page, but as the main part tries to load (lady gaga or whoever) iTunes "crashes" - I get the "ignore, report or relaunch" box. iTunes works fine otherwise.
Here's what I'm using -  Quicksilver PPC G4 @ 1.47GHz w/ 1GB RAM - OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.2.2, Quick Time 7.6.9, Safari 5.0.5. No Keychain problems - at least First Aid reports no problems, repaired permissions and rebooted. As far as I can tell, this issue started after the most recent iTunes update (which is why I hate so much to do so). Anyway, I'm buying all my music at Amazon at the moment, so if Apple wants me back in THEIR store I kinda need a fix for this.
Thanks in advance to all for your help -
    Robert
    P. S. - is it just me, or is this new "discussions" format really a step backwards?

Well, as far as I can see, no one has responded to this question. Nor do I see any solutions mentioned in other questions by folks having the same problem. So I can only assume that there IS no fix.
Oh well, I know that one user is just "small potatoes" as far as the iTunes Store is concerned, but they've just lost this frequent little revenue stream - their loss, Amazon's gain.
Good-bye iTunes store - it was fun while it lasted...

  • ITunes crashes when I connect my iPod to the PC when iTunes is running....

I have written about this problem before, but there have not been any successful solutions as of this date. I will explain my situation a little further and maybe someone can help.
Most of the time, when I connect my iPod to my pc while iTunes is running, the instance the iPod shows up on the library site, and whenever I move the cursor, iTunes crashes, so I have to close iTunes right away and try to disconnect my iPod. Most of the time, a message comes up that says info is being transferred to the ipod and that I shouldn't disconnet it at that time, but I usually go ahead because I know it isn't transferring at that time, since itunes has crashed.
Sometimes, after I have clicked on the first message to go ahead and disconnect my ipod, another messages comes up that says something to the effect of, "You can't disconnect because it is being used by another server at this time." So I click "OK" and then iTunes stays on for a few moments which gives me time to transfer a song or two, but then itunes crashes as soon as it finished transferring or before it finishes.
As anyone can imagine, this has really become a hugh problem. Having an iPod and not being able to use iTunes makes it very unhandy. I'm not able to add any new music or any of the playlists which i have been working on. Does anyone have a solution, or any suggestions as to what may be going on? It would be deeply appreciated.
I plan to restore my iPod in a day or two if I don't get a solution to this, but I don't have all of the music, videos, etc. that I have on the iPod since I removed much of it from iTunes to help the computer run faster. I had over 2000 items in the library, so it was pulling the pc down and it was taking forever to use the computer.
I am unable to use any of the software to transfer everything from my iPod to the iTunes library because of the problem with iTunes crashing when I connect the iPod, so this isn't a solution at this time.
    Someone, please help!
HP   Windows XP   Using DSL for internet access

I suspect a hardware problem.  But do the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Resore the iPid to factoery defaults/new iPod.
In the latter part of you post, I thin you ar sayng that you do not have a syning computer and the music is not on the computer. If so, do the following so you will not lose anthing (or very little) when you restore.
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Backup. This will make a backup so you can restore to the backup

  • ITunes crashing when connecting to the store on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I had iTunes crashing when connecting to the iTunes Store with an Apple ID. I tried unsucessfully all the solutions posted on the many threads of people having the same issue. So I decided to reinstall Windows. A clean Windows 8.1 install from the Microsoft DVD. And guess what, it is still crashing! How can this even be possible?
    The problem:
    - iTunes crashes when connecting to the store with an Apple ID. It connects, briefly freezes, then crashes.
    - I can access the store without an Apple ID without crashes. But it crashes as soon as I connect with an Apple ID.
    The system:
    - A clean, fully updated, Windows 8.1 Pro w/ WMC install from the Microsoft DVD.
    - Applications I installed, along with iTunes: Adobe Reader, Google Chrome, Skype, Office 2013. Nothing else. No crapware. No nothing. These are fairly common applications that shouldn't conflict with iTunes.
    - Antivirus is the built-in Windows Defender.
    - Firewall is the built-in Windows Firewall.
    - Intel HD Graphics 3000 on an Acer V3-571-6486
    - I have not moved Apple's folder from Romaing and Local AppData of the old systems... So it's a clean iTunes profile.
    - I can sucessfully sign-in to the iTunes Store with this account on another computer
    - I have tried with multiple accounts on this computer, all crashing
There are tons of threads about this. I tried all the solutions posted, including:
    - Adding "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to the PATH environment variable
    - Copying QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes"
    - Moving QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes"
    - Updating the graphics card to the latest available driver from Intel's website (9.17.10.3517, 2014-10-04)
    - Downgrade the graphics driver (9.17.10.3347, 2014-01-29)
    - Use the graphic's driver from Acer's website.
    - Use Microsoft's Basic VGA Driver
    - Disable the Graphic's Adapter entirely
    - Have tried to monitor the process with ProcMon, looking for a hint like a missing file or registry entry, but have not found anything helpful.
These solutions seem to have worked for almost everyone, but not me. The crash details in the Windows Application log are useless. Faulty module name is 'unknown'.
I am out of solutions. Is there anything left to do? Can anyone out Apple debug the dump file or something? Is there any way to contact Apple about this issue?
    Many thanks.

    Hey zoyashahab,
Ok, so it sounds like there are two issues here we want to address, the first being the iTunes Store connection issue and the second being iTunes not recognizing your iOS devices.
First, I'd start with troubleshooting the recognition by following the steps in here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If after getting that running again, you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, then I'd go through the troubleshooting steps in here:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store

  • Itunes Crashes when importing Music File or Folder on Windows 7 64-Bit with Itune 10.5 and update ios 5

Itunes crashes when importing Music File or Folder ever since i updated it yesterday

You can try downloading 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). You may get a more useful error message as to which component has problems.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
