ITunes crashes when i try to restore my ipod

So heres the deal. A friend gave me an 10gig second gen iPod which it was formatted for windows. Some of the music would not sync to the ipod. The warning I got said the software on my ipod was too old to sync all songs. When i tried to restore or update the ipod, itunes would just close.
So, I reformatted iPod to mac os extended(journaled) updated iTunes to 7.2 (was 7.1.1) and iTunes still crashes when I try to restore or update. I get the folder and triangle.
I have spent the better part of this weekend trying to get this fixed. I have searched the forums here and tried everything that was suggested. Somehow I need to restore it but iTunes keeps crashing.
What else is there to do?

Hey buddy,
I don't know how far you got with your problem. But in the end I had so many problems with Lion and iTunes. I backed up all my stuff using time machine. Did a full format and reinstalled Lion. My problem has now gone. It'll take a day or two to fully get you back to where you are depending on applicatiosn and your data.
Another thing I had enabled was Disk Useage on my Classic. I unchecked that in itunes too after the rebuild and I didn't have any other problems too.
I'm not sure what the problem was, but I encountered unexpected Finder freezes and I needed a rebuild.
Hope this is of some help. Good Luck if you haven't solved the problem yet.
It seems as though you and I were the only one havcing this problem.

  • Itunes crashes when i try to put my ipod on "disk use"

hi... i have a problem!... hahaha, i have and ipod 5.5g itunes is uptodate and the ipod drivers as well... my ipod syncs just fine, the music and the videos, but not the fotos, and when i try to put "enable disk use" it let me but when i hit apply itunes crashes an the only way to make it back is disconecting my ipod.
other example: if i want to update my fotos i go to the photo tab and select the folder i want i chosse aply and it freez for a long time and then says: "the ipod "Bettushco's can not be synced. the disk could not be read from written to"
(just a note: my videos and music and podcast update just fine)
    so just an abstract:
when tring to put my ipod to "enable disk use" itunes crashes an the oly way to recover is desconecting the ipod.
When tring to put fotos to my ipod, i go to the photo tab select the folder and when i hit aplly it freez. and the messeg "the ipod "Bettushco's can not be synced. the disk could not be read from written to" appear.
    thaks for reading!...
    any help will be apreciated!...

You are conflicting with another device. Do you have an external drive connected, a printer with memory card readers or network storage.
Connect your ipod to your computer, find it in Device Manager and change the drive letter to something higher, like M or P.
One other possibility is your antivirus/antispyware software is scanning the iPod. Check your preferences and set it not to scan an iPod. If you are going to use enable disk use also set it to not scan external storage devices.

  • Yep ITunes crashes when I try to sync my ipod too

Am having similar problems as below. Every time I try to sync my new ipod 5th gen video to my G4 laptop it freezes up iTunes
I reloaded iTunes, cleared the apple.com.plist from my preferences and restarted my ipod. Still no joy
It is even not force quitting iTunes. Just the spinning beachball and it says iTunes not responding, so I have to unplug my ipod and get the unsafe removal dialogue box.
Any thoughts? My ipod is making terrible ticking noises when trying to sync too. SO not sure if an ipod or iTunes issue so have posted on both pages for ipod and iTunes
    any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Marcus

Marcus, I had a similar problem with my iPod about 2 weeks ago, got an "error-50" on an attempted sync, so I used Disk Utility to repair the iPod. So far so good... or so I thought. I went to re-sync and iTunes beachballed on me after updating the games portion only. I had to pull the iPod with all the warnings, etc. Sent the unit in for warranty, got the refurbished unit, and it was doing the beachball thing, too!!! SH**! I have just spent the day today selectively going thru each section (music, movies, games, photos, podcasts, and finally, tv shows), and have learned what MAY be the problem. Everything, all content, except the "Heroes" TV show restores just fine when individually adding them to the previously sync'd material. When I attempt to sync "Heroes", the thing beachballs after about 3 minutes. So I guess that This program is not going to get sync'd today, anyway. Hopefully, there is an answer, or I'm just out 34 bucks for the series that I cannot watch on the pod.
BTW, works fine on iTunes playback - all episodes, so it's not a file issue.

  • When I try to restore my iPod touch 4G I get error 3194 and I have the latest version of iTunes

When I try to restore my iPod touch 4G I get error 3194 and I have the latest version of iTunes

Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.
Are you trying to restore to a PC or an Mac?  Either way, I'd remove iTunes, empty the trash, restart, and download/install the latest version.  Also, check the versions of OS that the latest build of iTunes will work with.

  • Itunes crashes when I try to authorise PC for Itunes match

I have just subscribed to iTunes match but having trouble with iTunes crashing when I try to authorise / enable my PC to use iTunes match.
I get a wt.exe error. Using Windoes XP. Any suggestions - tires reinstalling iTUnes but no joy.

If you're running iTunes 6.0.5, I would need the crash log to figure out why you're crashing.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log" If there's already a file there, it most likely has multiple crash logs in it (new crash logs are just appended to the end of the file). So, delete this file. This will make sure you're not sending extra information I don't need. These crash logs are text files, so you can open them in notepad or whatever to see what information you're sending.
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. Send it to me. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread because I get a lot of these messages and are easily confused.
