ITunes crashes when trying to access the store
For the past few days my iTunes hasn't been working properly. At first it started by 'Not Responding' as soon as I would open it. Windows would run it's little test and ask me to close the window. I uninstalled it and re-installed it and it seemed to work fine, except now instead of crashing as soon as I open it, it occurs when I open the store. I've tried installing 11.3 and still had the issue. I've done all the things I can find online such as copying the QTMovieWin.dll and quite a few other things. If I ask Windows to debug it I get two errors, they are:
- An unhandled exception occurred in iTunes.exe [8912]
- Unhandled exception at 0x5AC09908 (CoreFoundation.dll) in iTunes.exe 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000070.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advanceThis is from the crashes all are alike.

Lightroom 4 crashes when trying to open the slideshow module. I spent over three hours with both Adobe and Apple tech support and we know it is a permission issue but have not been able to get it solved. It started with the last upgrade to 10.8
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
Getting error in iTunes 7 when trying to open music store =(((((
When trying to open the music store in iTunes 7 I get this message: "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store, Make sure your network connection is active and try again" Help would be appreciated.
most commen thing will be your firewall
when you updated itunes your firewall will come up telling you that the program has been modified and needs you to allow it again to connect
therefor check your firewall disable it to start with then try reconnecting then if that works you can enable your firewall and look in the prog application list to add or allow itunes to work
this also includes disabling the windows firewall (found in the control pannel of windows xp with sp2 only) -
Finder crashes when trying to open a new window
When trying to open a new Finder window, Finder will crash and relaunch but won't open an actual new window. Neither can I use the Go To Folder menu.
I tried relaunching Finder, restarting my MacBook and repairing my disk. Unfortunately, nothing has helped so far..
Any ideas?
Small addition: I first noticed the problem while trying to open a DMG file. I don't have any reason to suspect this file is malicious though.I faced the exact same problem.
Please check How to activate an event handler manually? Read the COMPLETE thread... especially the second last entry. Valery has given a perfect workaround for this problem.
And it works absolutely fine too !

Illustrator locks up when trying to open the preference window
I have CS5 on windows 7. When I try to open the preference window illustrator locks up and will not open it. I can hit escape and it will go back to working fine. I have tried leaving it thinking maybe it was an odd loading issue but nothing changes. Other than this everything works perfectly fine it just refuses to open the preference window. I have tried searching but I can't find any one else with this issue, I am hoping to avoid having to reinstall it but it is starting to look like that may be my only option.
crutchlets,
You may consider at least two approaches.
One is to wildly increase the monitor resolution to see whether it is hiding somewhere out there, in which case you can drag it into the area with the other things, then reduce again and clean up the mess.
Another one is to try the relevant steps in the following list (1) - 4) and 6) as the last resort).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

ITunes crashes when trying to launch the iTunes Store
Having some serious problems with iTunes!
When iTunes starts up, it launches the store and promptly crashes. I've tried uninstalling (full), reinstalling, flushing the DNS, disabling internet security... Nothing seems to help.
If I turn off my internet connection and start iTunes, I can see the (empty) library. But once I turn the connection back on and try to open iTunes store, it crashes again.
I just get a generic Windows "iTunes has stopped working" message!
Have spent hours trying to fix this and not found any way to do it!
Very grateful for any help! This can happen when iTunes attempts to connect to the iTunes store.
Continue to disconnect your computer from the internet and open iTunes.
Go to iTunes Menu Edit > Preferences, "Advanced" tab and click the "Reset Cache" button, OK.
Now, use Windows Explorer to delete the contents of Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Download
You may try open again while connecting to the internet. -
I'm getting a Windows error and iTunes crashes any time I try to access the iTunes store. I'm not sure if this may be related, but when I run a connectivity diagnostic, system info shows:
Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. EX58-UD3R
iTunes 10.5.0.142
QuickTime not available
I have QuckTime 7.7.1 (1680.42) installed and it works without trouble. Is the fact that iTunes doesn't recognize my install possibly related to the crashes? I have uninstalled and reinstalled both programs a couple times.Well, as far as I can see, no one has responded to this question. Nor do I see any solutions mentioned in other questions by folks having the same problem. So I can only assume that there IS no fix.
Oh well, I know that one user is just "small potatoes" as far as the iTunes Store is concerned, but they've just lost this frequent little revenue stream - their loss, Amazon's gain.
Good-bye iTunes store - it was fun while it lasted...

Itunes crashes when I am in the store and try to look at an album
Itunes ver: 10.3.1.55
Windows XP SP3
Description of problem:
When I launch ITunes store, it launches ok most of the time (works 100% if I don't launch any other applications at the same time). Then I will type something into the search bar. When the results come up, if I click to see an album, iTunes crashes. And I don't get any sort of Itunes error, I actually just get the "Please tell Microsoft about this problem" error.
Please advise. I have tried most of the fixes on the Apple web site that I could find. I'm pretty sure it's not a firewall or anti-virus issue. It does not happen on the other computers in the house, of course they are all Apples.
Thanks,
ChrisModVer: 6.0.2900.5512
ModName: mlang.dll
That's a rare one, Chris. (Counting you, I can recall seeing it reported here only three times.) It suggests that you might have a damaged font on your system.
Although it's given for a different issue, Vortical's procedure from the following post is probably worth a try:

ITunes crashing when trying to open "apps" folder when iPhone is connected.
When I plug in my iPhone and try to open the "apps" folder, itunes crashes. This problem occurs everytime I try to open the "apps" folder. Please help?
There seems to be a bug in EAS when opening large outlines. If you look in the tmp directory "C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\tmp" on my machine you will see that every 5-6 min a copy of the otl file with a randomly generated name gets created. Something is timing out and EAS trys again with a newly numbered random otl file name - this goes on till you cancel. The files get left in there forever.
The solution should be to increase a timeout setting someplace but I have not been able to find it and previous appeals here and on network54 have not yielded any results.
There is a work-around however. Make your outline faster to open. If the ESSCMDQ utility does not work, try putting the otl file on an ssd drive. If you do not have one you can try a memory mapped IO trick: copy the outline someplace. Then try to open the original again - it will most likely now be sitting in memory and will open up fast enough not to generate the timeout problem.
Of course delete the copy at some point.
I also make it a practice to periodically clear out the abandoned junk in the tmp directory - the op system will not allow you to delete any file still in use so just del * (boy does that sound dangerous but it works).
Now if someone has a better way I would love to know it. -

That one can indicate disk or file damage, brandon.
The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you now access the store without the error? -
ITunes crashes when I go to the store
iTunes works fine until I try to go to the store. Right as it is about to finish loading the home page of the store, I get a window that says it has stopped working. I am using windows 8 and iTunes 11.0.5, but it started happening with the previous version. Do you know how to fix this? I really want to buy a couple albums, but I can't get on the store >.<

Try adding C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support; to the system variables PATH
iTunes tries to use QTMovieWin.dll and that the file is in the directory
Guide to add a PATH:
Windows 8
Drag the Mouse pointer to the Right bottom corner of the screen
Click on the Search icon and type: Control Panel
Click on -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
Close the window.
Windows 7
Select Computer from the Start menu
Choose System Properties from the context menu
Click Advanced system settings > Advanced tab
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
Windows XP
Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.

Strange UI in cropping NEF files
I am a Canon shooter but received some raw Nikon files from a fellow photographer. We've done this before and I've had no problems with his files - well, we have done this a number of times but before I used LR 4 (i.e., in LR 3 and before). With this
