ITunes crashing caused by differen versions in Library/Receipts..??

I am also encountering FREQUENT crashes of iTunes while using different functions....
In response to one of the people posting a message I noticed that I have 2 different versions of iTunes in my Library/Receipts folder-an old iTunes.pkg version 4.8 and the newest iTunesX.pkg version 7.0.1...
Could this be the problem causing the crashing, or, as I have read many messages, does it exist from the new version ?

These are the system requirements of iWOW:
Mac OS X 10.2 or later
OS X 10.2 and iTunes 6 or better
Will not run on specific combination of iTunes 7 with OS X 10.3.9
Will not run as intended on OS X 10.4.8
Because of the last line, I haven't installed and tried it.
I've read and replied to some posts of people who had difficulties after the evaluation period of iWOW expired and wanted to get rid of it.
Did you use the accompanied Uninstall application to get rid of it?
It may otherwise have left pieces that interfere with iTunes and cause it to crash.
That 'Uninstall' app. is a run-only script, so I can't look into it to see what it exactly does.
If you didn't run that Uninstall app., it might be a good idea to run it now.
I don't expect re-installing iTunes to solve the problem, but you never know.
Remove the 'iTunesX.pkg' file before doing that and also trash the iTunes application, so the Installer will install a complete 'fresh' app. and not just update components.
Re-installing iTunes will not affect your library or library files.
If you still experience crashes, click 'Report' and save the report. I'm not good in reading crash reports, but it contains information about the thread that crashed and the components involved. Someone might be able to detect the culprit.
As a last resort, perform an 'Archive and Install' of OS X. This will install a complete fresh system folder, but retain most of your personal settings.
I's a good idea to have a backup of at least your Home folder before doing that.

Try to download from the iPad using Image Capture instead and save the photos to a folder. If that succeeds, you can check the files for corruption before importing them to iPhoto.

Okay. Although the Stackhash result here roughly means "Windows 7 doesn't know what module caused the crash", in context it's consistent with trouble with your iTunes library file.
By way of experiment, create a new library.
    (1) Hold the Shift key while opening iTunes. You will be prompted to Choose iTunes Library.
    (2) Choose Create Library to create a new one. In the following window you will be prompted to select a location to save the new iTunes Library.
    (3) Click Save. iTunes will open the newly created library. After closing iTunes, you can always select the original library by using the Shift key when opening iTunes.
Try adding some of the content that is currently crashing iTunes when you add it to the usual library. Does it add in the new library, or is it the same error in the new library too?

  • ITunes crashes while updating library

For the past few months, whenever I start up iTunes, it automatically begins to update my song library. This is fine and all, but once it gets about 4/5 of the way done, iTunes crashes. There is no apparent way to stop iTunes from updating the library, since it wont let me select the window with the progress bar or the main iTunes window itself. I've tried reinstalling iTunes twice and fiddling around with quicktime, but nothing seems to change. I've posted this topic before and I came back an hour later and it was on page five with zero responses, so that sort of lead me to believe no one had an answer for me, but I'm becoming very sick of having my iTunes and thus my entire music library bricked. So please, any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated.

The last time I saw that (although it has just been the once), the problem was caused by a damaged library file. Given that you're getting the error when iTunes is doing the library update, I suspect it's the same issue.
Try an iTunes library recreation as per the instructions in the Re-creating the iTunes Library file section of the following document:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
Does that get you past the error?

    Hi Guys,
sorry this is going to be such a long post but I typed all this out for an apple tech e.mail and they have referred me here. I don't want to type it all again so I've cut it from my original message. In addition to the info below to be clear, I have un-installed and re-installed a couple of times to try and resolve the issue but it's not worked. The machine seems rock solid playingDVD's and the same media files in windows media player.
I can only think it has something to do with the way in which I have transferred my library (Unless it is a hardware fault but It seems stable doing everything else!) I've also deleted all the previous iTunes librarys that came when I ported my files across to the new machine. I'm lost, hope you can help. I think the key is in the event log error messages but I'm not tech enough to understand what I'm being told. Sorry.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Comments:
I have just transferred my iTunes library from one pc to a new one which will be used as our house media PC. I did this via a network switch.
After downloading iTunes and insytalling i have added my library by "File/Add folder to library" and selected iTunes music folder.
iTunes store works ok but if I try and browse my music collection after 3 or 4 mouse clicks in iTunes library mode the software switches my PC off. The machine is stable under all other applications, it is only in the library that this problem occurs. The shutdown has no warning, it's much like the plug has been pulled.
i have checked the event log and the following messages are present after every crash. Oddly, windows does not detect the crash and the PC re-starts without any blue screens, warnings or prompting for safe mode.
    This:

Following the link takes me to the Microsoft Knowledge base but it yields nothing.
iTunes and this library is still functioning on the original PC without a hitch. The library does include 5 albums I bought and downloaded from iTunes, I tried authorising the PC incase it was related but it still crashes.
I assume it must be something to do with the library transfer or the way i have done it. i have not yet mated my ipod with the new machine, is this relevant?
Two other errors relating to iTunes show up in the event log which I will paste below however, iTunes has cause the PC to crash bothe before, and after these events.
    This:

I've PC Checked the hard ware, mad onioned the system to see if it's a resource thing but it's rock solid until i open iTunes. Then after every re-boot, the message is back in the event log.

  • ITunes crashes on startup (7.4.3.1 and previous versions on Vista 32Bit)

Deleting/moving the itunes library files (iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library.itl) makes it work fine which leads me to believe it crashes when loading the playlist. But not always!

  • I just downloaded the latest version of itunes for Windows and now itunes crashes every time i launch it

I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows and now iTunes crashes everytime I launch it.  I have tried re-downloading and selecting Repair with no luck.  Any suggestions?
    thanks

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • ITunes crashes on adding large number of files to library

What I do is this: I have a music collection well over 30,000 songs. I want them in iTunes so I go to Add to Library, and I select the folders in which I keep the music in, and let iTunes process them. I do this from an external drive (hfs+, USB2). I have the option disabled that lets iTunes make a copy in the iTunes folder, I only keep the link to it.
It starts off quite good, but after a few minutes it just doesn't respond anymore. It uses 0% cpu and disk activity is low.
Is 30,000 songs too big to handle for iTunes? I'm using the latest version, 8.2.
My MBP specs are below. Should be enough right?

What basically seems to happen is that iTunes caches files in memory. Once it reaches the limit of the available memory it just crashes. Workaround is as stated. Or add more memory to the system you're running, either by putting in more dimms or -like I did- by extending your memory on disk. (VirtMemX seems to do a good job.)

  • ITunes crashes since new version

    Hi,
For some reason, my iTunes crashes everytime I start it.
Windows only says "iTunes has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is availeble", but I don't get any solutions or debug report after it.
It doesn't matter if my iPod Touch is connected or not.
Is there a way to set debug information on? So I get a debug report?
I already reinstalled iTunes, any other ideas/solutions?

Btw, the .exe says version 9.0.1.8

  • Why does iTunes Match cause iTunes to crash ?

Why does iTunes Match cause iTunes to crash ?

My problem is similar.  It began right after I allowed an Adobe update to run.  (Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 is recorded in my Registry.) Now every single website I try to open triggers a window (see below) and repeats many times.
It makes no difference whether I "Allow" or not.  I think it runs this window for every flash object on that website.  It is occurring while I enter this post!
It makes using the Internet MOST challenging.  Surely this is causing major problems for everyone.
I have IE8 on Windows Vista.
Here's the text from the message:
"A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer.
This program will open outside of Protected Mode. Internet Explorer's Protected Mode helps protect your computer. If you do not trust this website, do not open this program.
    Name:  Adobe Flash Player
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
(Checkbox) Do not show me the warning for this program again.
    buttons:  Allow         Do Not Allow"
Should I appeal to Microsoft or Adobe for a solution?  Is is possible to install the previous version?
    Thanks for any wisdom.

What happened to my library? iTunes downloaded it's latest version and my library of over 10,000 songs ripped from over 1,000 cds disappeared! I WANT IT BACK!!!

Restore your library from a recent / current backup.  If you've failed to maintain a backup of data you obviously regard as valuable, see turingtest2's user tip on Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

  • My old computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and new music.  I downloaded iTunes again and found my old account info.  How do I add a new CD without deleting all of my music on my iPod?

My old Computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and tunes.  iTunes says I must delete everything off my iPod in order to add a new CD.  It also said I already have an account which I was able to locate.  I don't know how to get into my old account.  I think that would solve everything.  I have Windows XP.  I'd appreciate any input.

    No.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?
    The same applies here.

  • HT1926 "Service 'Apple Movile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."  Got this message while updating iTunes today #01-24-2014#.  It caused the previous version of iTunes to no

I had problems upgrading iTunes today to the latest version.  I have scanned other threads but found no useful resolution to my situation.
iTunes and other Apple products have been removed
    Windows 7 64-bit
Memory and Storage with room to spare
Erase utility to eliminate bad files
    Re-booted after products removed
    Consistent error message
The solution is not obvious to me.  I willing to follow any suggestions that would lead to a possible suggestion.  I have tweaked my resgistry in the past successfully.
    To the Apple Techs:
Are you aware of this problem?  If so, where are you in resolving this issue?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • With the latest version of itunes, are you able to search your library by purchase date?

With the latest version of itunes, are you able to search your library by purchase date?  My prior itunes software had Name, Time, Artist, Album, Genre, Rating, Plays and Purchased.  With Version 11.0.3 of itunes, 'Purchased' is not a tabbed option to sort.  Can this be added?

    Hey jeffwcincy,
Great question, we simply need to check "Purchased Date" from the View Options menu.
In iTunes 11, click the "View" menu and choose "Show View Options". Located under "Stats" is the "Purchase Date" option.
