ITunes Crashing PC / Won't Close

So I've been having problems with iTunes crashing my Vista PC when watching videos. It has also been crashing on exit even without watching videos. My laptop was recently haveing other issues so I had to reinstall XP. Long story short, on a freshly installed XP with all available updates and no other software iTunes is not closing. I'm using the latest version of iTunes and there are absolutely nothing in the library. When closing the iTunes window, the window does go away, but iTunes.exe continues to run. Also it starts consuming 100% of CPU time until I end the task. I wanted to see if it would ever stop so I left it alone for 24 hours and it was still running. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem. iTunes crashes/hangs up every time I try and close the thing. It seems MANY people have this problem come up, but there are no answers posted that I can find yet.
Very frustrating Apple.

  • Itunes crashes every time I close application

Hey. Strange problem! I have ITunes 7.0.2.16 and whenever I attempt to close it while a song is playing, the program crashes and closes. Of course, I'm glad it closes since thats what I want it to do. However it freezes things up for a short while, makes lots of annoying noises, and gives me a "Windows Send Error Report" message.
Anyone know how to make this stop? Thanks.

  • TS5376 iTunes once again won't close. Past versions of iTunes had the most annoying behavior that when ever closed it would immediately reopen. Apple update just installed the latest version and the problem is back. Help.

Past versions of iTunes for Windows had the annoying behavior that it couldn't be closed. If I tried to exit or close the window iTunes would just open back up again. It had gone away, but apple just installed version 11.1.5.5 and it's back! The only way to exit is to open task manager and kill the process. Nothing else seems to work. Guess what Apple, I really don't want to have iTunes open all the time. I think the only answer is to stop using iTunes, since I don't have any Apple devices anyway, and go with a different music player on my PC.

    Thanks.
Just in case, we'd better check on another old potential culprit (don't see it reported much lately, though) ... do you have any Logitech gaming software installed on the PC?
If so, perhaps try the suggestion from the following post:

    help!

Do you have any devices connected to your computer such as printers, webcams, etc?
Try removing them if you do. I've seen some cases of this and sometimes unplugging these devices will work.
I'd also suggest running MSconfig to ensure that there's no conflicting software. You can get all that information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292
Another suggestion would be trying to create a test user (Admin privileges would be necessary). If it's able to install in that user account, you know it's something with the user. But if the installation is successful, it should install system wide.
I would recommend trying this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    Good luck.

Even though you're using XP rather than Vista, if you've got Nod32 and your iTunes is hanging when you try to quit try the measures from the following Eset document:

  • Itunes 10.5 crashes and won't sync my iphone

I have downloaded the software udpate on my Mac Mini that I use to sync my iPhone with.  It offered me an update to iTunes and the iPhone.  I backed up the iPhone and transferred purchases whilst it was downloading the iOS update.  It then updated the phone OS but here is the crunch.  When it then booted the phone iTunes crashes, it won't sync any apps, it won't sync my music, it is as if the phone is new out the box so I have lost all of my settings.
I am not very impressed or very happy.
Also if I now go into iTunes the backup that I took yesterday or previous ones are no longer there so I can't even try a restore to previous backups, they are missing from the list to restore from so I am stuffed.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

  • ITunes crashes; won't sync iPod

I have recently switched PowerBooks with my brother. To make the switch I used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the contents of the HDD from one PowerBook to another. Everything is working well except that the first time I tried to sync my 5G 80GB iPod iTunes crashed and won't sync.
I have determined it is iTunes and not the iPod that is crashing is because when I force quite iTunes the iPod can then be used.
To troubleshoot this I have tried restoring the iPod; deleting the iTunes .plist; contacted Apple and asked them to de-authorize all of the computers I have authorized to play. I have not heard back from Apple on that one yet. If anyone has any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm not sure what I did, but the problem is gone.

  • Itunes crashes when sync pictures

im traying to sync new picture in a folder  they are around 680when the sync going by 630 the itunes crash and windows 7 close the program. who i can fix this issue. thanks

There's a bug with 10.1.0.54 that is causing "iTunes has stopped working messages" (citing CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Problem Reports for the error) for some folks when importing CDs with the AAC encoding, adding/converting files to AAC, and in some cases syncing devices.
Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
    (1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though), and/or don't use the option to convert to 128 kbps AAC when syncing.
    (2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
    (3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12583499&#12583499
(2 and 3 do help with the device-syncing variation.)

  • ITunes keeps crashing and won't let me update to ios 5 + many more problems with iTunes

Here is alist of all my problems:
Whenever I try and sync my iPhone     to my computer it doesn’t work and then my iTunes crashes, there are no     error messages it just freezes and crashes.
After I have done this my iTunes     doesn’t even open and crashes strait away.
My iTunes also crashes     sometimes when I am just trying to move from (for example) music to     movies.
My iTunes also refuses to     access iTunes store (no errors it just doesn’t work).
Sometimes I can get past the     backup issue by cancelling the back up and letting it sync, but no it won’t     even let me do that it freezes and crashes before it can even transfer my purchases.
All thishappens if I can even open up my iTunes.
I amcurrently running ios 4.3.4 as I can even update to ios 5 I am running (tryingto) iTunes 10.5.
I have trieduninstalling and reinstalling iTunes about a 1000 time and it hasn’t doneanything (done as instructed on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923). I havebeen trough tones of pages on the community and on the other support pages thatapple has but I have found no answers. I have also tried to install an olderversion of iTunes but it just comes up with an error message saying all myfiles are configured to iTunes 10.5 and noting work on that either.
This hasbeen going on for ages and I know there is a lot to deal with in this post butplease if anyone has any ideas, knows, or has dealt with any of the above please help.
    Thank you

I am having the same problem. I'm wanting to update to iOS 7, the 'Update Now' button is available, but it says I can't download due to no Internet connection. I DO have an Internet connection, but either way it won't let me update. Help!

  • What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g?  iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.

What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g?  iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.
It's a 64G ipod touch and was fine till Apple told me to upgrade to ios 6.  Now most of my apps crash, my music won't play and I just get a white screen when I hit Music.
When I try to sync to itunes it acts like it's going to sync and appears to recognize the ipod, but it's grayed out and has an update circle by it that spins for a while until itunes eventually freezes alltogether.  Is there a  way to go back to ios 5 after a erase and reset?

I installed iTunes on my Dell PC running Windows 7 and now Internet Explorer crashes and won't run. Are there any known conflicts, or likely issues that may be causing this?

  • ITunes Crashed twice while updating my iPhone 4 and now the iPhone won't work.

iTunes prompted me to update to the newest version (10.5.1 or whatever it is). I did that, then went to plug my iPhone 4 in to charge and it prompted me to update to whatever the newest iPhone software was. When I went to do that iTunes crashed unexpectedly midway through, telling me that an "unknown error had occured." I restarted my computer and plugged my iPhone back in only to find that all my content had been erased. iTunes told me that the device needed to be restored so I went to do that but while it was restoring, iTunes crashed again. Now iTunes wont even recognize my iPhone, which is stuck with nothing but an unresponsive loading screen and the apple logo. The phone wont turn off, and wont respond to any buttons.
Someone please tell me what to do!

I had almost an identical experience except that itunes didn't crash.. my now my phone won't do anything  just a blank screen..  GREAT UPDATE, APPLE~~!!  The phone worked flawlessly before.. now I have NO phone..

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.
