ITunes crashing when attempting to play video

hi guys! lately, i've been having a major problem with my iTunes. it seems like it crashes everytime i touch the "videos" section (either playing video, editing info of video, etc.), eventually freezing the whole osx and forcing me to shut down my computer via holding down the power button (eeek!). do you guys know where my problem might lie? it is freaking me out because i never thought this kind of thing would happen to a mac! haha any suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks so much!

Usually when you update iTunes it is best to check if there is a QT update too. It appears that when Apple updates iTunes there is some component in QT that also needs to be updated due to changes in the DRM scheme.

  • ITunes crashes when attempting to play purchased tracks

Hoping someone can help me here. iTunes crashes when attempting to play tracks purchased from the iTunes store. Music imported from CDs still plays fine. They have played preiously but not since downloading and installing 7.0.2.16. QuickTime is up to date and I only have 1 PC authorised. Help!
Dell Dimension 5100   Windows XP Pro

There's another thread on here that suggested re-installing iTunes. That works for me (in that the videos play), but I have to re-install iTunes every time I want to watch them which is a pain. So if anyone has a more permanent fix...

  • Itunes crashes when trying to play videos

My itunes will not play any video (movies, music videos, previews in itunes, etc).  It crashes and shuts down itunes every time i try.  any ideas or help?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of itunes already.  They will play in quicktime, just not in itunes.  They movies i have in itunes are a mix of digital downloads and movies bought from itunes store.  They worked a few deays ago, and after the new software update, they no longer will.

It didn't work for me. I open itunes 10.7 and try to play Schindler's List HD which is an iTunes digital download I got when I purchased the movie and voila! iTunes crashes harder than a NASCAR driver trying to close the distance. I can't play this movie in VLC, DIVX, Windows Media Player, iTunes, nothing. I also have Bourne Legacy HD with same issues. Can't play movies that are HD. Any help here would be great.

  • ITunes 10.6 crashes when trying to play video full screen

I haven't seen this particular issue among others' comments so…
When switching from the normal video window to full screen while watching a podcast in my iTunes library, the program immediately crashes.  I've tried several different podcast, starting with the smaller video window, then trying to expand using the opposing diagonal arrows symbol in the bottom right corner.  The result has been the same.  As soon as I click on that the window screen goes black, and iTunes shuts down.
    I'm on a MacBook Pro 4,1 using OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6 (40).
Meanwhile, hope someone is working on the problem with the clickable scroll bars being inoperable.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Itunes/quicktime crashes when trying to play video podcasts and 3GP files

    Hello all,
I've searched these forums and didn't see anything that might help me, so if know of any solutions posted already, please let me know. I have an HP laptop(AMD Turion 64 X2 2.0 GB processor, 2 GB or RAM) running Windows Vista Home Premium. I used to be able to play 3GP files at one time with Quicktime, but now I cannot. Then, the other day I tried to play a video podcast and it starts to play, then says, "Itunes has stopped working". Quicktime does the same thing with 3GP files. This was before my update to Itunes 8.0. It happpened with Itunes 7.5.11.1 or whatever the last version was. It obviously does the same thing with Itunes 8. I've tried completely uninstalling Itunes and quicktime, then reinstalling them both and I still have the same problem. Just a note: I tried playing the video podcast via Windows Media Playey, and it worked fine, except for no audio(I don't think WMP has AAC support) so I think something is conflicting between Itunes and my computer. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  • Fully updated version of iTunes crashes when trying to play purchased video

i am running iTunes on both my macbook pro and my iMac (both Intel). whenever i try to play the Dark Knight digital copy or a purchased video from iTunes, my iTunes crashes and self quits. i have successfully transfered the dark knight to my iPod and it plays fine. i have no clue why i can't watch these videos. also on a side note, the preview option in Finder also crashes my Finder when i try to watch these videos. any answers? thank you!

There's another thread on here that suggested re-installing iTunes. That works for me (in that the videos play), but I have to re-install iTunes every time I want to watch them which is a pain. So if anyone has a more permanent fix...

  • ITunes crash when trying to play a video

When i try to play one of my tv programs itunes crashes/freezes and i have to open task manager to close it. Im running on win7 and have the lastest verison of QT and ITunes.

Is it giving you an "iTunes has stopped working" error?
If so, let's try the following user tip:
iTunes for Windows 10.7.0.21: "iTunes has stopped working" error messages when playing videos, video podcasts, movies and TV shows

  • ITunes 7.1 will crash when attempting to play music

Ever since I've upgraded to version 7.1, iTunes crashes whenever I attempt to play music. This also occurs when I try to listen to a song in iTunes Store.
    Thanks for any help!

are you still at iTunes 7.1.0.59? to check, go "help > about iTunes", and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
    if you've got a 7.1.0.59, try upgrading to 7.1.1.5:
    iTunes 7.1.1.5 installer
do you still get the crash when playing music with that in place?

  • ITunes 7.1 crashes when attempting to play any music

I have installed, uninstalled & re-installed the 7.1 but everytime I try to play anything iTunes crashes with an undefined error. It will sync with iPod, rip music from my CD's and allow me to access the Music Store. It all seems fine, no errors during install, but it crashes everytime I try ti play any media. Everything was working in version prior.

    Hey swhitson,
Try the tips in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610 and see if they resolve the issue.

  • ITunes crashes when attempting to download purchases. Solutions?

Ever since I installed iTunes on my current Windows 7 computer, I've had a persistent issue involving the program crashing when I attempt to download purchased items. I hav etried re-installing iTunes multiple time, but it has done nothing.
Is there a solution available that I am not aware of?

I just tonight restarted and logged into my Mac after this upgrade being applied. I discover that I am completely unable to play back song samples in the iTunes store. The first time I double-clicked an item, I got the immediate gray-screen "You must restart now." After restarting, I tried again, and this time it didn't even crash gracefully...the top third of my screen display has been overlaid with Linux-level white-on-black text, explaining the Darwin kernel's inability to cope with whatever the f*&k just happened. "Frame not mapped or invalid" was the gist of the message.
Good thing I have my Windows machine here to login and complain...

  • ITunes crashes on attempt to play media with foreign characters

Recently, over the last few versions I have been unable to play any of my media that includes foreign characters, be it Asian characters or accented Roman characters. The fact of the matter is that upon attempting to play a song / audiobook / movie with a foreign character iTunes crashes.
I am using iTunes 10.6.1.7 on Windows 7 64-bit in English (UK) with non-unicode set to Japanese.
    Windows crash report:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:          BEX

The media with foreign characters syncs with my iPhone okay, and will play without issue on it; just iTunes is unable to play said media on my computer, which is highly frustrating.
I would be appreciative if someone has found and would share any work-around to this problem. Thanks.

I still have no thorough concept on how I have solved this but I suppose if anyone else has encountered this issue I can share how I worked around it:
I changed my windows system non-unicode locale back to its default (English UK).
I then installed Microsoft AppLocale to handle the programs that would be affected.
For experimental reasons I then set my iTunes executable to have Japanese locale through the AppLocale program.
It now operates fine and will play files with foreign characters.
Try it if you experience the problem's I've been having.

  • ITunes crashes when songs are played.

I've been without iTunes on my work computer for some time, and I miss it dearly. I tried again, hoping maybe a new version was out that would fix the problem. Anyway, here's what's going on and what I've done so far.
When I start iTunes it opens normally and I can move around playlists and such easily. When I go to play music, it plays for maybe ten seconds before coming up with the 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close' message and crashes the program. Looking through the threads the most common solutions have not helped.
    - There's no Norton or other software firewall program running.
    - I've installed the standalone version of Quicktime.
    - I can run quicktime by itself just fine.
    - I've done MSCONFIG and unselected everything except the two for iTunes.
Any other ideas on what could be wrong?

gaaaah. i've seen that before once or twice with a pref files problem. (for some reason, itunes can't generate one or the other of them, which can produce similar symptoms to having a damaged preferences file.)
okay, let's try enlisting some additional technical help.
we'll get a crash log from itunes, and send it to so someone who can interpret crash logs.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
generate the crash, collect the crash log, and send it to this email address
    in the email:
    (1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using. (go into your "Help > About iTunes" to doublecheck.)
    (2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.

  • ITunes crashes when trying to play certain songs

Every time I try to navigate to a certain artist iTunes crashes and gives me a panic report. It doesn't happen with all the media in my library, only this one particular artist. I am happy to include any information that is useful to you guys from the report, just let me know what part you need.
This has happened before and as far as I remember I never figured out what was causing it. Either I deleted the media from my iMac or it stopped crashing.. I can't remember.
    Anyway, any help is appreciated.
    My system:
    10.8.4
iMac 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB Ram

    I see .
Does the site is legal ?
I do not suggest to download songs from sites which are not valid ,
    These sites have viruses etc.
