ITunes - Create MP3 Version (output destination?)

Hi. I was wondering if anyone out there knew if it was possible to utilize iTunes to create MP3 versions of m4a files, but have them placed in a specific destination?
What I am trying to accomplish and the problem I am having is, I have an MP3 player that only plays well with MP3 files when it comes to ID3 tags and album art. So far iTunes seems to be the only player that can convert a file to MP3 format while keeping all the ID3 tag information intact.
The problem is that I have over 300 songs I need to convert to MP3, which I can easily do in iTunes, except for that when it creates the MP3 version, it is placing it in the individual artists folders. Meaning I would have to locate every file in order to drag them onto my player and then delete them when finished.
Is there a way to have the newly created MP3 files output to a separate destination? Or maybe another program that can do this..??
So far, Ive tried (smartcoverter & adobe encoder) will create an MP3 version, however, it removes the ID3 tag information which is even worse than having to locate each file individually. Any ideas or information would be appreciated. Thanks!

No such option.  iTunes puts the newly created file where iTunes thinks it ought to be:  Music\Artist\Album
Other conversion programs, such as Switch, do let you specify a destination folder, and it does keep the tag info.

Not at all!  After the conversion, sort your library by Date Added, and the newly created versions will be in a row at the top.  Highlight them in iTunes and drag them where you want them.  You do not need to look for the individual folders!
Try the above with one or two songs so you can get comfortable with how it works.

  • Create mp3 version grayed out in iTunes

    Mac OSX 10.7.4
    Itunes version 10.7
The "Create MP3 Version" button is grayed out and I can't select it.  I can't convert my AAC audio files as I could before.  I could do it before the most recent update.

Nevermind.  You can't create an MP3 version at the same time you are importing a cd.  Duh!

  • ITunes 9.2 Won't "Create MP3 Version"...

    Hello all...
I have been doing this for YEARS, and not just a few times. I used to be able to simply select a file in iTunes (usually a WAV or AIFF file) and then just click on "Create MP3 Version" in the iTunes menu. When I used to do this a grayed out version of the file would appear in the list of files in the iTunes browser until the encoding was done. After the process completed, there would be a beep and then I would see the file right there in the iTunes browser. Now no such thing happens! I do see that iTunes is "encoding" in the status bar at the top, and there is a beep at the end, but then there is no file to be shown afterwards... What happened?
    Thank you!

I use to be able to make a MP3 disk without problems in iTunes 10.4 - did it last night. But then I downloaded 10.5 - now iTunes WON'T make MPe3 disk. Tells me that files have to already in MP3 format to be written to a MP3 disk!
Right lick on any file in the playlist and  select MAKE MP3 version - I watch the progress bar move but it appears as if nothing changes - the file is still not recognized in the playlist as being able to write to disk as MP3! - example, I have 30 files in a playlist but only 5 can be recorded onto disk as MP3.
Apple screwed up with this and starting to get like old Microsoft.
In this day and age of corporate wall street greed- Apple follows suit in lock step -  do it my way, buy my products (old ipad users locked out of most new stuff - Apple's way of "encouraging"  you to buy their new stuff )
iTunes 10.5 is NOT an imporovement.iPad ios5 is filled with other bugs.. ruined my gmail account and temporarily shut me down - had to petition GOOGLE to reinstagte me after explaining my iCloud account possibly fouled things up

  • How do you convert/'create MP3 version' on iTunes 9.1.1?

Used to just be on the ctrl click menu but now nowhere to be seen. I browsed through the forums to see if this question had been asked but I apologise if I missed it.
    Thanks for your help.

I'm having 'Create MP3 Version' issues with 9.1.1 (12) versus 9.1.1 (11). I have build 11 and my sister has build 12, and I have the 'Create MP3 Version' option in my Advanced menu, but she only has a 'Create AAC Version' option in her Advanced menu. Does anyone know why that is the case? Her goal is to gain the 'Create MP3 Version' and my goal is to keep that option when I upgrade to build 12 (I have some syncing issues with my first gen. iPod touch that I understand are resolved by build 12).
Thanks very much for any assistance!

  • Is there any way to tell "Create MP3 Version" where to create the files other than in the same folder as the songs you want to create the mp3 versions of?

I am trying to get MP3 versions of my non DRM protected songs onto a DVD so I can import them into my cars "Music Register".
There is no easy way to do this that I can see in Itunes . I follow this process..
Highlight the songs I want to copy in Itunes
Select Create MP3 version from main menu
Open up Finder Window showing the Itunes folder with the m4a and MP3 files newly created..
Go Up a directory or 2 to get the Artist 'folder'
copy that folder to my external drive
Delete the MP3 songs from the Itunes folder (I dont want duplicates showing) obviously
Delete the M4a songs from the external drive....
I have about 5000 songs so doing this manually is clearly a complete pain.
I dont think you can force it to create the mp3 files anywhere other than in the current folder in itunes unless someone tells me otherwise
More likely does anyone know of any other software to do this with less effort...
I confess to not being an Itunes fan at all I admit but I like the Match functionality so I keep it otherwise I would cheerfully chuck it in the bin...
    Thanks in advance...

It appears I have figured it out. You gotta go down to where it says Destination and tell Lightroom to Organize into One Folder.

  • ITunes create AAC version problem

The create AAC version option is missing and instead there is a Create mp3 version option instead. Is this a problem with iTunes or did Apple decide it wants more money by making it impossible to create ringtones from songs we OWN?

No, it's neither a problem with iTunes nor something Apple has changed (nor is it an iTunes Store issue, which is the forum you posted in).  You just need to change the settings to AAC:

  • Most options in itunes "create new version" greyed

itunes only gives me the option to create an apple lossless  version when i select a song in my playlists or general music section to create a new version.
This doesn't make sense as most of my music was uploaded using applelossless.  The average song size  is 35 mb for a 5 min. song. This doesnt seem to me to be a compressed song/file.
The other options "create ipod or iiphone version" and create ipad/tv version are greyed out.  Why?
I do need the create iphone version .  How to do this and what happened to create MP3 version as an option here?
    thanks

LIkewise, I have a mac mini belonging to a client and I told him to compress ( "create a new version" of his video library) he said all items greyed out. I collected it Friday , sure enough all  his m4v with drm and his mp4 ( without DRM) will not allow him access to create a new version. I dragged one his films into my account. Authorised the account and it plays etc, the create new version option is there for my whole library bar this film. I am tempted to strip out the DRM but I dont know if it will resolve. I would love to hear from Apple !!!!! or someone older/ younger but wiser what may be the issue.

    Hello everyone,
I've looked through the community posts and can't find an answer to my question. I'm trying to create MP3 versions of songs that I have in my iTunes library and followed the guide in the knowledge base on how to do so, but the option is greyed out and won't let me select it. I'm using version 11.3.0.54 and would appreciate any help

If they are "protected" files, which would have been purchased prior to mid-2009, they cannot be converted.  Burn them to an audio CD and re-rip as MP3.

  • Create mp3 version

When right clicking on a "purchased acc" which is not protected, create mp3 version is a selection. This is also available in the advanced tab at top beside the help tab. When I select this option from either location, it looks like it is downloading a file and an alert is sounded when finished but it does not put a duplicate file as an mp3 in the library. Am I missing a step?

    I don't think you missed a step. Here's the procedure: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
Take a look at your music library in the list view. Sort by the date added column. If that column is not there, add it by using the View Menu -> View Options. Your new MP3 should be at the top of the list.

  • ITunes shuts down when I try to create mp3 version

I'm trying to convert some of my songs to mp3 version but everytime I try to do it, my iTunes stops responding and shuts itself down.  How do I fix this?

In addition to the other requested information, when was the last time ... or perhaps this will be the first time, to run Preferential Treatment to ensure your preference files aren't corrupt? If you can download it, it's at http://www.jonn8.com/html/pt.html. If you have OnyX, you can check your preference files using it, too.

  • ITunes create AAC version cuts track length

I tried everything from deleting and adding the songs. and Installing uninstalling iTunes. I don't know what to do anymore. iTunes cuts down the track time of the converted version and yes, This is happening to the most of the plays. I used everytime because I always convert my MP3s to iTunes M4A version but now it's broken. I found a same thread to this issue here, but I don't think they already found a solution. I know I can use another 3rd party software to convert my tracks but I know iTunes converts different and now these please help me.
Sometimes iTunes cuts down 1sec of the songs total time but it still matter to me.
I hope you can help me. But sometimes its worst cutting down almost 20sec of the song.
    (check out the last song)

Same. Ever since i updated my iTunes, a lot of crazy things are happening like when a drag an album and you will see the playlist sidebar there forever until you restart iTunes and more. I need to create AAC version of my files so I can add explicit and clean tags to some of my songs,
The only solution I know: If you're using Windows, try creating a new user account or turn on the guest account. Then open iTunes there and convert your files. Then, Copy the converted files to your admin account. It will work for a "while"

  • Creating mp3 version option?

Today i noticed that there is an option to create an mp3 version of the songs in my itunes. I've been looking around online but can't find anywhere that mentions if its free or if i have to pay to convert the songs i purchased. I only use Itunes songs on my PC and was just curious about the option, because i have a non apple mp3 player that won't play apple format.
    Thanks.

The conversion capability is described more fully in this document.
It can be used on any tracks in your library (except iTunes DRM "protected" tracks) and has no cost.
Note that the conversion creates a new MP3 version and leaves the original track in place, so make sure you use the MP3 version for your player and not the original.
