ITunes creating playlist automatically whrn importing music

Itunes 10.4 in two computers (OSX and Windows XP) creates playlists when importing folders into the library, and autoplays them. Never happened before. ¿Any solution?

I did find a workaround. Itunes Folder Watch.will add folders without playlists. I deleted all the items and unwanted playlists in my itunes library, closed itunes, deleted the shortcuts to itunes and replaced them with shortcuts to itunes Folder Watch. Then I started up itunesFolder Watch, which reopens itunes.  I selected my media folder and then Folder Watch made a list of the items under "new tracks", I clicked "add tracks to itunes" and added all the items. It took a long time, but now it only takes a minute to check for new tracks. There is a bug where it keeps thinking that about a dozen John Haitt albums are new tracks even though though they have already been loaded. Other than that, it solves the problem.
When I hear that Steve Jobs was very demanding and had to make his programmers go back to the drawing board over and over again, I wonder if it was because his programmers did such a lousy job they deserved to be yelled at or if they actually did it right the first time but Steve Jobs had no idea what he was putting the users thru as he kept telling them to add brilliant ideas that didn't make any sense in the real world. Some how I don't think its the programmers fault. It isn't just itunes. I always find these weird problems whenever I get desparate enough to use apple products. For example, I haven't been able to figure out how to listen to podcasts on an mp3 player without using apple, and there is no way to get it to play a list of podcasts. It only plays them 1 at time. I spent hours on the phone with Apple and the only thing they could tell me was to make a movie of the podcasts everytime there is a new podcast, which is a royal pain in the ***. I am not going to do it. The very idea is absurd.
I'm absolutely sure there is no technical reason why these things can't be done, so it seems like there must be some reason why it makes more money for apple to do it completely the wrong way, users be damned, You know, like any Microsoft Product.  So when I read in the media how Apple made gadgets easy to use, I don't understand how that could be true.  Gadgets are generally NOT easy to use and there is no reason for it.They could easily be easy to use but the people in management have no imagination and the programmers got tired of explaining to them how their instructions don't make any sense and just gave up even trying to make itunes easy to use. I don't know a whole lot about Apple so I could easily be wrong about all that, but thats my guess.

  • Anyone know how to restore the itunes created playlists?

In a fit of stupidity, I deleted the itunes created playlists(purchased music, recently played, etc.). I was just wondering if anyone knew how to get those back on my source list, and also on my ipod mini. I tried to go the smart playlist route, but there is no criteria for recently played or purchased music. Any help would be greatly appreciated:)
    Thanks
    Dell Dimension 3000   Windows XP

"I tried to go the smart playlist route, but there is no criteria for recently played or purchased music"
    Sure there is....
    For 'Recently Played', you can:
    1) 'Last Played' 'is in the last' xx days/weeks/months OR
    2) Uncheck the 'Match' condition and check the 'Limit' condition to however many songs/GBs/hours selected by 'most recently played'
    For Purchased Music:
    Match 'Kind' contains 'Protected'
Recreate the Smart Playlists yourself. Name them anything you desire.

  • How can i stop itunes creating playlists on itouch 5th generation

    Hi All
    Happy new year to everyone.
I have a new iTouch 5th generation which I am trying to set up and sync etc.  One of the problems I have found is this:-
Despite selecting in iTunes to Manually control the sync process so that I can choose which playlists are synced to the device, iTunes somehow managed to also sync playlists it created from my music.  Along with my own created playlists, were playlists for 90's music, recently played, classical, etc etc.  None of these playlists were created or chosen by me.
How can I stop itunes creating and syncing these unwanted playlists.
the iTouch is a 5th generation with IOS 8.1.2, : PC is running windows 8, itunes verion 12.0.1
    Many thanks

Hi  - I never thought of using the WiFi.  Thanks.  I already have the 'manually manage music' checked  but now I need to get rid of most of the music.
Let me look at the settings on my iPad. Okay I checked not to automatically sync.
Brian, I do need to transfer PDF Files from my iMac to my iPad.  I suppose that using Wifi I can just drag and drop?  Using iTunes like I have been I just open Adobe on my iPad then use iTunes to drop the class files into the iPad.

  • Does iTunes create a copy when importing content?

I was wondering if iTunes creates copies of the movies I import. If it does, should I delete the content I used from my hard drive

    Hello Jaime_Perez86,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
By default iTunes will make a copy of what you are importing and add that to the library.
You can see where the file is being stored that iTunes is playing back like this:
    Locate your iTunes files
    Do either of the following:
Find out where a file is stored: Select the item in iTunes, and choose File > Get Info. The path to the file is shown at the bottom of the Summary pane (next to Where).
Show the file in the Finder: Select the item in iTunes, and choose File > Show in Finder.
    From: iTunes Help Menu
              https://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.1/help/index.html?localePath=en.lproj#itns2 999
If you notice that your iTunes media files are not all in the iTunes media folder, you can consolidate the meda into the iTunes folder to make backing up your library easier.
Consolidate your files in the iTunes folder
Depending on how you imported items into iTunes, some items in your library might be stored in different locations (in another folder or on another hard disk, for example).
You can consolidate all the files in your library in the iTunes folder—for example, to make it easier to move your library to a new computer.
Choose File > Library > Organize Library.
Select “Consolidate files.”Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the iTunes folder.
To create folders (Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Audiobooks, and so on) inside your iTunes folder, and place all your imported media files in the appropriate folders, select “Reorganize files in the folder ‘iTunes Media.’”

  • ITunes Store preferences in iTunes-create playlists

In the preferences for the iTunes Store, there is an option to automatically create playlists when buying song collections. How does this work? I don't ever see iTunes create a playlist when I buy songs/albums.

Turning off the option - I doubt - will change the 'Purchases' list. I have it 'off' in my prefs and I still have all iTS purchases added to the 'Purchases' list.
From the iTunes Help menu and a search for "song collection": <You can set iTunes to automatically create playlists when you buy collections from the iTunes Store, such as iMixes, submitted by iTunes users; and iTunes Essentials, favorites chosen by an iTunes Store staff of experts.>

  • ITunes 7.1 - Won't import music - lost imports?

Is anyone else having this problem? I recently "upgraded" to 7.1 and have nothing but problems.
When I try to import new folder or files, iTunes goes thru all the importing process but the music is nowhere to be found?! Add this to the fact that adding any existing files from iTunes to my iPod also takes forever.
Even when I view the "Date Added" category - there is nothing there even though iTunes went thru the whole importing/analyzing process.
Hey APPLE! This is why your customers are wary of trusting and installing these so-called upgrades!
What the heck is going on? I want my iTunes back! Any help is always appreciated.

I have a nearly identical problem. I can import part of the first track, and for some reason, part of the 6th track and then skips over the rest. It shows the play times as a huge number (somewhere around 667 hours) but imports nothing. I cannot play the CD with iTunes either.
I bought vista home premium and was disappointed to discover it does not come with a x64 bit disk. I used vista 32 bit software and had absolutely no problems with iTunes. After a fresh install of vista for 64 bit iTunes no longer works properly. I can still play anything I transferred from my backup HD but no importing is possible.
I have tried the error correction with no success. I tried installing and running 32 bit iTunes and it gives me an error saying something to the effect of "iTunes is improperly installed. You may need to reinstall iTunes to fix this problem."
I have a hard time believing that this is due to a x64 bit problem as Apple has used this technology longer than most. Is this an issue with the latest iTunes? I am going to fuss with it some more but I'm very frustrated that I can bearly use the new iPod I bought. Any suggestions from Apple users as well as Dark Side (*vista or windows in general :)*) users would be awesome.

  • I cancelled iTunes match and all my imported music has disappeared. How do I get it back. Please !!!

    Hi,
When I subscribed to iTunes match, it moved all my imported songs (i.e. songs from cds that I owned) into the cloud. I finally got fed up of this, and cancelled my iTunes match subscription, and now all my imported songs have disappeared !! Can someone please help me get them back !!!
    Thanks,

    peterallan68 wrote:
Since going to match its no longer possible to back up as far as I can see, so any advice you can offer on what I should do if I want to cancel would be greatly received.
You need to import tracks to your computer in order to add them to match. You should back up those tracks before deleting them from your main computer
Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
As you did not keep the originals on your computer, I suggest that you create a new library on the external drive and download them. You would need to do this in any event if you decided not to renew match. Use this library to manage your music in the cloud - new tracks added will be available in the cloud once match completes it's scan of your library.

  • Will itunes still allow people to import music from CD's into itunes?

I am not able to load music or movies onto my ipod. When I connect the ipod, nothing transfers and nothing comes onto the monitor about transfering.
My movies and music show up on my desktop and when I lookon itunes.
I lost my movies and music on my ipod, when I downloaded software

I don't use Windows, so I can't be too much help, but have you tried some basic things like looking at the settings within iTunes? If your music shows up within iTunes you might take a look at the iTunes preference that tells it to manually, or automatically sync with your iPod. I think it's under "Devices", then look for the "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods". That checkbox might be off. If so, that could explain why it does nothing when connected to your iPod.

  • Does itunes maintain a history of imported music?

I bought an iMac and had GB's of music to transfer to it from my pc. So I set up home sharing and began importing my music from my pc. However I could only import about 700 songs at a time because around that time my home sharing would time out and disconnect. Within each of those groups of 700 songs iTunes told me around 10 of them, give or take, failed to transfer each time. I want to know if there is some kind of history in iTunes that can tell me now that I have moved all 4000+ songs, what the ones that failed were so that I can go back and try them again?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • I noticed that iTunes is making all my imported music m4a, instead of MP3, now I cannot burn cds.  Can you change m4a's to MP3's?

I noticed that iTunes is changing all my music I import into m4a, instead of MP3.  Now I cannot burn MP3 cds.  Is there anyway to change the m4a into MP3 so I can burn cds & listen to the cds in my car?  The M4a do not play in the car.

  • ITunes creating duplicates in my Windows music folders?

I ran out of space on my local hard drive, so I moved iTunes and all my music folders to an external drive. I wish I had checked here first, and gotten the instructions to move my music, but I didn't. I just dragged everything to my external drive.
I guess I made a mess of this, because many songs were duplicated (and triplicated) in my music folders. I deleted everything and tried again. It seemed to work. This was a few weeks ago.
Tonight I noticed the space used on my external drive suddenly doubled from 30 GB to 60 GB. I started looking in album folders and I'm finding duplicates again. For example, it will list songs as "Honky Tonk Women", "Honky Tonk Women1", "Honky Tonk Women2", etc.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how do I fix it? Manually deleting 8500 songs will take forever! If I sync my iPod, will I end up with duplicates in my iTunes library?

Ed, I did have "Copy files to..." checked when I added music the first time. Per your advice, I've unchecked that box.
    Question: What is the EHD?
You say I can delete the music not in my iTunes music folder, but all the duplicates are in there.
I've been looking in my iTunes player, selecting songs, and getting info to check its path in my hard drive. Depending on if the song ends in 1, 2, or with no number, I then know which version I can delete from the iTunes music folder. I can't even imagine how long it will take me to do this about 8000 times! I'm tempted to delete everything and start over, but reloading all my CDs will take me weeks as well...
