ITunes & Creating Ringtones

Hello, sorry to be so ignorant... but I am missing something? When will Apple introduce the new version of iTunes that will allow you to create your own ringtones? I thought it was in the newest release 7.4.1 (2)? But I don't see it?

I think a lot of people have found how to create their own ringtones by now. I have it working nicely with iTunes 7.4.1 by jumping through some hoops. Apple should learn from this that the users demand this feature and will find a way, even if they continue to try to censor the discussions on this board.
Big lesson learned: I'm finished upgrading iTunes. Now that 7.4.1 works for me, I won't upgrade to 7.4.2.
As every other one of my posts have been deleted, I'm sure mine is "Gone in 60 Seconds!"

  • ITunes Created Ringtones No Longer Playing

All of the sudden for no reason at all (i.e., I haven't damaged, added to or subtracted from apps, etc) the custom ringtones I made in iTunes are not playing on my iPhone. If I choose them in the settings menu, all I get is silence. I've got customs ringtones I created in Garageband that still work fine as do all the stock ringtones on the phone.
The iTunes ringtones show up and play fine in iTunes. They show as synced to the phone. I've restored the phone OS three times without using a backup so it would be fresh. This is FRUSTRATING! Anyone have any ideas?

Okay, I completely removed iTunes and reinstalled. Re-imported my library of music/podcasts in a completely recreated iTunes library file AND still my iTunes created ringtones (THAT I PAID FOR) don't play. They are silent on the iPhone. They play in iTunes but not the phone.
    Any ideas? This is sickening.
Is there any way a hardware issue would cause this? I would think if it plays some music, it must be software. I just have no idea where to look now.

  • Can't create Ringtone for iPhone

everytime I click on the ringtone symbol next to the song I want, it says that I need to accept the iTunes Store Terms of Service and that by clicking 'OK' it will direct me to that. Thing is, I've already accepted that and when I click OK, it does nothing. It's becoming a real pain..any ideas?

I sent iTunes support a note about that and although they didn't answer my question directly, they got me around it. For what's worth, it did work; however, now I have a new problem. Long story short, don't create more than one ring tone for now. I'll post my crap about that momentarily...
    Here's what they wrote:
First I want you to try to create a ringtone with the following steps:
    1) If you haven't already, upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, which is available free of charge on the iTunes website:
    http://www.itunes.com/download
    2) Open iTunes, access the iTunes Store, and look at a few songs. A bell icon next to a song indicates that you can make a ringtone from the song. The bell icon does not mean that the song itself is a ringtone. If you do not see any bell icons, choose View > View Options, select the Ringtone checkbox, and click OK. A ringtone column will appear and any eligible songs will have bells next to them. Purchase any ringtone-eligible song you like.
    3) Now click Purchased in the list on the left. If you do not see any bell icons, choose View > View Options, select the Ringtone checkbox, and click OK.
    4) Click the bell next to a song to begin making a ringtone. The ringtone editor will appear at the bottom of the iTunes window.
    5) Adjust the highlighted area to choose the part of the song (up to 30 seconds) you want to use as your ringtone. You can also choose to fade in or out the audio by clicking the checkboxes in the highlighted area.
    6) Select a "Looping" length, which will set the gap between each ring. Click Preview to hear your ringtone before purchasing. Once you're satisfied with your ringtone, click Buy. Your iTunes Store account will be charged 99 cents plus any applicable taxes. Any song credits or video credits that may be on your account will not be used toward the purchase.
    7) Your ringtone will appear in your iTunes library Ringtones playlist on the left side of the iTunes window.
    8) To sync the ringtone to your iPhone, connect your iPhone to your computer. In iTunes, select your iPhone on the left and click Sync. iTunes will automatically sync any ringtones you create. To sync specific ringtones, with the iPhone selected on the left, click the Ringtones tab, choose Selected ringtones, and click Apply. Check the ringtones you want to sync and click Sync.
Please note that any ringtones you have previously synced to your iPhone will be replaced with the ringtones that you are currently syncing from your authorized iTunes library.
To set a ringtone as your default ringtone, go to the Home screen on your iPhone. Tap the Settings icon, then tap Sounds. Tap Ringtone, then choose a ringtone. This will become your default ringtone.
To assign a ringtone to a specific contact, go to the Home screen on your iPhone. Tap the the Phone icon, then go to your Contacts. Choose a contact, then tap Ringtone and choose the ringtone. When that contact calls, you will hear that ringtone.
Please note that iTunes creates ringtones for iPhone only, and the ringtones you create with your iTunes Store account may not be transferred to other accounts. Also note that even if you create a ringtone from iTunes Plus (DRM-free) content, the purchased ringtone will include DRM-protection.

  • ITunes will not create Ringtone - iTunes Library is on ext hard drive

I see the bell in iTunes, iTunes analyzed my library to identify ringtonable songs but when I click to Create Ringtone it processes then doesn't do anything. I keep my library on an external hard drive to allow for my wife to connect to it at will. Must the library be local to store the ringtones?

I have the same issue. It looks like it will create it then just quits.

  • How to create ringtones with itunes?

ok how do i go about creating ringtones with the music in my playlists in itunes? and how do i transfer ringtones that are on my computer to the ringtone library?

Everyone seems to have their way to make a ringtone. There are aspects of Garage Band which I find cumbersome, but you need Garage Band to create and transfer your ringtone to your iTunes library. Try this.
    1. Download and install Audion 3, a free Mac mp3 editor (http://www.panic.com/Audion/
    2. Open Audion 3, then under File go to "open mp3 in editor.
    3. Navigate to your song via home/music/itunes/itunes music to the folder and then mp3 you want to make into a ringtone
    4. Identify which brief section you want for your ringtone, say from 22 seconds to 52 seconds of the song, drag and highlight that section in the mp3 editor, then under Edit click on Copy.
    5. Go back to Audion 3 and under File click on New mp3 editor. Paste your saved file into that space. Under File again click Save As, give it a name and the suffix .mp3, save to your desktop.
    6. Open Garage Band, iPhone ringtones, loops, choose
    7. Delete anything which Garage put in main space, then drag your mp3 into that space. After it sets up, go to share and send ringtone to iTunes.
    8. Sync. Be sure your check Sync all Ringtones, otherwise you have to individually click on your new rintone.

  • Created ringtone, but itunes created a Tones folder instead of Ringtones

I created a ringtone by cutting a song up into a 29 sec. clip. converted to .m4r and synced with my iphone.  itunes and the phone created a Tones folder and put the file there, but there is no Ringtones folder and I cannot find the tone on the phone to choose as a ringtone or sms tone.

Yes, I have it set to sync everything.  When the iphone was docked it syncd and downloaded the newly purchased tone onto my PC itunes. Looking at the the Tones folder while docked in itunes and I can see both files in the Tones folder of the iphone and the PC.  I've scrolled through the whole list of tones and do not see my created ringtone at all.
i know I have gotten it onto the phone. When I first created the ringtone and syncd the iphone it created the Tones folder on the phone and I immediately saw the ringtone on the phone.
I assume that there is something wrong with the file that I created like the bitrate or filesize that is keeping the iphone from recognizing it.  I have not had trouble with this in the past though.
I used a 3rd party program to cut up the song to make the ringtone as I always have.  Should I try to use itunes to make the ringtone?

  • Create Ringtones in iTunes 10- AAC Version greyed out

Need assistance creating ringtones in iTunes 10:
I have iTunes 10 on a Windows PC.  I went into Preferences, General, IMPORT SETTINGS and set it to AAC Encoder and HIGH QUALITY (128 bkps) and checked the Error Correction.
The AAC Version in the ADVANCED drop down is still showing as being GREYED out after selecting an MP3  with 0 and 30 seconds as the time limits in GET INFO for a song.
I have searched for a possible "fix" to get the AAC Version to be available.  Nothing works so far.  HELP!!
    [email protected]

I had the same problem until I realized that I first need to buy the song and then create the ringtone from the already purchased song. The instructions could have been made clearer on this, and it would be great if you could use the ring tone creation tool to check if the song really fits before you buy the song…
    Good luck

  • Creating Ringtones in iTunes

I used to be able to create ringtones from music in my iTunes library but cannot in version 10.x. How do you create ringtones in the latest version? Or is this no longer an option?

Type "how to create ringtones in itunes 10" into the Google search bar.
    You will get instructions.
There are also several other free ways to create ringtones.
Google will find them as well.

  • Problems with 'Create Ringtone' Function in iTunes

I am using an iPhone, connected to iTunes 7.5(19) on a MacBook running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Within iTunes there is the option to 'Create Ringtone' which as I understand it, should be selected once a song has been selected within the iTunes window (ie one that has already been purchased). When I do this, I get the message "ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store" - this is confusing as I can successfully connect to the iTunes store from iTunes to do all the usual things I would normally do in linking to the store. Any insights/suggested fixes would be appreciated as I have drawn a blank with everything that I have tried to do to solve this.

I have exactly the same problem with a new imac and iphone. itunes have been unable to help. Have you solved it problem yet?

  • ITunes 8.0: no "create ringtone" option

Howdy, first posting, hope I'm not too much of an idiot, but: I've upgraded to iTunes 8.0. When I select a song that has a "bell" icon, if I click on it, it gives me the "help" menu about creating a ringtone...but it won't actually create a ringtone. If I go to the "store" menu, the "create ringtone" option can't be accessed. I'm in the USA and my computer seems to know that, and I've downloaded ringtones in prior versions of iTunes. Many thanks in advance for answers.

Yeah, I seem to be having the same problem. The bell icon is next to the song, I click it and I keep getting the instructions. Not the box on the bottom to create the ringtone. Also in "Store", create ringtone is greyed out, not giving me that option. Wondering if there is a workaround or solution to this.

  • Cannot create ringtones in iTunes Store.

Hi all... I just got an iPhone and setup/activation all went fine. Then I signed in to the iTunes store to buy some ringtones and it won't let me. I can see the bell icon on ringtone-eligible songs, but when I click it I get a page entitled "Learn more about ringtones for your iPhone" which basically just gives step-by-step instructions on how to do it. At the bottom of the page is a "Go back" button which takes me back to the list of songs. I do not get the ringtone editor.
So I tried it another way... using the "Create ringtone..." command in the Store menu. But I can't click it because it's grayed out.
So then I tried this: i go to my own music library (not the store) and choose a song I already purchased from iTunes that I know is ringtone-eligible. I right-click on the track and choose "Create ringtone..." from the contextual menu. The ringtone editor appears for a like half a second, then disappears and I'm prompted to log in to the iTunes store. So I enter my password and click Sign In and the login prompt appears again. So I try again and the same thing happens yet again. The only way out is to click cancel and give up.
Can someone help me???? It's totally frustrating.

I had the same problem until I realized that I first need to buy the song and then create the ringtone from the already purchased song. The instructions could have been made clearer on this, and it would be great if you could use the ring tone creation tool to check if the song really fits before you buy the song…

  • How to move newly created ringtones on itunes with extension mr4 to ringtones

I have created ringtones using i tunes. I had no problem creating them, they play well and appear under music in iTunes. One thing that I am unable to solve, is that i can't move the ringtone from music to ringtone tab on the right. I tried dragging it, didn't work. And I also made sure the tones were checked in preferrences. Does anybody can help me or guide me with the issue, will appreciate that.

Chris, you are incredible! Can't tell you how much happier and grateful to you. I was struggling last evening for hours and so frustrated.
It worked. And you explained so well each step.
You will be my first choice to ask something if I need.
I wish I could give you one million points for that.
    Cheers.

  • Problems creating ringtones in iTunes 9.0.2 and 9.0.3

I have had problems creating ringtones for my iPhone in iTunes versions 9.0.2 and 9.0.3. When I select "create ringtone" when right clicking on a song, iTunes brings up the bar at the bottom for creating ringtones then says...
"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unexpected error occurred (11556). Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
    1. My network connection is active. 2. I am logged into my iTunes store account.
Does anyone know why this is happening, and better how to fix it?

You can buy them from the iphone itself. Instructions can be found in the manual:

There are many ways to make ringtones. Google "iphone ringtone" and you will find instructions.

Creating ringtones from itunes iPhone 5?

The name of the folder shown on the left under Library changed to Tones recently but I thought the tab at the top, while syncing, still said Ringtones.  I guess I'm not sure.   At any rate there are many youtube videos that will walk you through this if you want to check to be sure you are doing it correctly.  Here's one I picked at random: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwXUM2kCfig.
