Itunes deleted id3 tags on my mp3s automatically

the "let itunes organize your music" box is unchecked, and i imported my cds as mp3s, as i removed the songs from the itunes library (not the files), it took off all the tags!!!! i spent hours importing cds, once i removed the songs from the library, then dragged the folder back into the itunes window, the tags to the album, track #, artist, etc weren't there anymore!!!!! just the file name. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!!! the program shouldn't have authority to mess with the id3 tags that are embedded into the mp3s once i remove the song from itunes!!! RIGHT?! what am i supposed to do with all the unlabeled mp3s!?!1 i'm not going to use iEatBrainz for everything, thats rediculous! could someone else try removing their songs from the itunes 6 version like the one i have here and see if they have the same problem?? its gotta be from the same folder where all your imported music goes....
this is making me soooo mad. i need an alternative program cuz this ain't working for me.

If you remove a song from the iTunes library the file will remain in the location that it was previously BUT the tune is removed from the library. The id3 tag was never changed. If you go back to the file in its' original location you can put it back into the iTunes library and all the id3 info is still there.
Usually it is best to let iTunes organize you library - unless you have a special reason not to let iTunes organize.
I removed tunes from my libary - keeping the files - then added them back and all was as it should be. If you are looking at the file via the finder the only info that you will see is the song title (the same info as in the "Name" column in iTunes). iTunes names the file on the HD the same as what is in the "Name" field.

  • After converting mp3s to AAC, does itunes write id3 tags?

    I'm on OSX 10.3.9 and running iTunes 5.0.1. I just recently converted a lot of music which was on mp3 format to AAC at 128kbps (saved about 30% space with no loss of quality).
    Now when I'm running iTunes, it lags and a small window comes up sporadically saying "Writing ID3 Tags."
    Is this for the files I converted to AAC recently, or what's this all about?

    out of interest how did you do the conversion ?
    Make an intelligent playlist, with the setings, "kind is" - "MPEG"
    Check that your "convert to" setting is AAC.
    In your MPEG playlist, press command and a keys together (or Edit > Select All, from the menu bar) and choose Advanced > Convert to AAC.
    When you are done, use Select All then option and delete keys together in the playlist, to remove the MPEGs from your library.

  • ID3 Tags disappears when MP3 is copied

    Can anyone help me with this? This problem only recently started after I upgraded. I'm using iTunes 7.0.2 Mac and when I import a regular CD it finds the ID3 tag info and imports fine. However, when i copy the MP3 files to another computer (my computer at work) the song plays fine but all the tag info is gone. This never happened before. Isn't the tag info saved in the MP3 file? What should I do to fix this?

    I found a solution. Personally I think there's a bug with iTunes 7.0.2 (at least on my machine) whereby iTunes adds tag information to the library when ripping a CD but doesnt save it to the newly created mp3 file. So when you copy the mp3 file it shows up on another computer with no tag info.
    I tried different things but what worked was to go to the computer that ripped the CD and that showed the tag info and select the Advanced pull-down menu and "Convert ID3 tags". I chose version 2.3. I did that to all the mp3s and iTunes saved the tag info to the file because after doing that I can now see the tag info when the mp3 file is copied to another machine.
    I selected all the mp3s in my library and did the same thing just in case.
    Perhaps the next upgrade will fix this bug.

  • ITunes reads ID3 Tag Improperly

    I've just spent my afternoon naming 1,881 mp3s that I loaded up on my computer from old cd's that weren't in any music database and I named all the files properly. As soon as I loaded the songs into iTunes the artist switched to "various" and everything else is fine. When I get properties on the file, all the information is there. Why doesn't iTunes pick it up?
    I'm using the latest version 6.0.1 and the ID3 tags are in version 2.2

    My mistake, according to this topic, it is apparently the "Sound Check" feature that is adding the random numbers to your Comments field, coupled with already-dodgy ID3 tags.

  • How do i edit id3 tags for all mp3s in a folder?

    If I have a folder of mp3s, how do I set all of their id3 album tags to the same album? For instance, in Windows you can just select all of the files and then right click and go to Properties where any tags you edit get applied to each of the files. I'd prefer to do it all in Finder, but if there's some way through iTunes, or another app, I'd be glad to hear about it.

    That's the problem though, the tracks aren't in the same album according to their current id3 tags.

  • After deleting ID3 Tag it shows up again

    Hello,
    i have this problem:
    if i delete some ID3-Tags, for example the Album-Tag it shows up again when i double click the file.
    If use the iTunes 11.1.5 and the mediathek is managed by Itunes.
    Thanks for help!
    Michael

    When you change a tag iTunes has to change it in two places (for most media formats except WAV).  It changes the data in its database library file and it has to re-write the tags in the media file itself.  We don't know much about your setup but I am wondering if iTunes is having problems writing your media file.  If you highlight a track where the media file has different information from the iTunes database the database will be refreshed to match the media file. In your case I am wondering if that media file is just not being changed.  Is it on a different drive or in another user area?

  • Tracks originally ripped in iTunes loose ID3 Tag then become corrupt?

    Gurus....
    I'm tearing my hair out... After investing in a Soundblaster Wireless Media device I started to copy the 6000 odd mp3's ripped from CD's and Vinyl listed in iTunes 4.7 (I have an iPod so need to maintain both libraries) to the Media Organiser. Many of the ripped CD's (possibly from later editions of iTunes) appeared to have no Tag information (Artist, Album and genre were 'unknown') I started to manually readd some of this but then found that the tracks were not playable in either location!!! iTunes and Media Centre behave like the tracks doesn't exist and skip straight passed them.
    I'm guessing it's an iD3 incompatibility and was wondering if anybody out there knew what the problem was and if there is any way around this.
    Thanks in advance
    Wayne

    WayneMar,
    I had a very similar problem. Ripped tunes in ITUNES, added them to a library in Musicmatch. Everything came up as 'Unknown Artist'. Tried to fix the tags in Musicmatch and got a dialog box saying the headers were corrupt.
    After a little trial and error went into ITUNES and used the 'Convert ID3 Tags' feature to change the tags to V2.3. Musicmatch detected the change and picked up the tags.
    The 'Convert ID3 Tags' feature is under 'Advanced' on the top bar or available by right-clicking a tune.
    Hope this helps,
    Leebob

    does anybody know how i can read a MP3 file ID3 tag???
    i know the text is at the end of the file... i'm not sure if i can use a pre written bit of code that will do it or if i will have to write the code myself to back track through the file...

  • ID3 tag editor on MP3 play

    Hi all,
    How is it possible to change the ID3 tag info on your mp3 player itself?I own a Vision:M but if you need to select the folder/removable disk with the Creative Media Toolbox (Auto Tag Cleaner) the Vision:M doesn't appear as a removable disk, but when I open 'My Computer' it is shown as an 'Audio-Device'...
    All help is welcome !
    Greatz, Von Belgium

    Scratch that!
    I just found out how to edit tags already on your player. Basically connect your player to your pc, open up Mediasource, and right click the song you want to change and click Properties. There you can change the fields and the changes will show up on the player.
    Check out epizenter.net in a little while. I'll be making a picture guide for this.

  • Getting Information from ID3 tags from streamed mp3 files in Flash CS4 AS3.0

    Hi everyone:
    I have spend my whole day trying to find a good way to access ID3 tags in AS3.0; but didn't find anything helpful.
    In my project I am making a sound object and assigning it a URL:
    Then I stream the sound into a sound channel:
    var s:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest('URL here"));
    var sc:SoundChannel;
    My problem:
          I want to read the ID3 tag somehow and display the artist name or anything in the ID3 tag, onto the screen.
    Complication:
         I Have the URL change through user input, and naturally I want to update all the information with the new ID3 tags information.
    var s:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest('NEW URL here"));
    Thank you for any help!

    I know I took it out because it didn't work. I had something like this:

    soundLoaderContext.checkPolicyFile = true;
    var music:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest("URL #1 (from my server)"));
    var sc:SoundChannel;//sound channel

         if(isPlaying || pausePoint != 0)
              sc.stop();
              playPause_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
         music = new Sound(new URLRequest("URL #1 (from my server)"));

         isPlaying = true;

    function id3Handler(evt:Event):void {
          var id3:ID3Info = evt.target.id3;
          trace(id3.artist + ' - ' + id3.songName);
          name_txt = id3.songName;
          album_txt = id3.album;
          artist_txt = id3.artist;
    This is mostly just taking the exact code from the website I mentioned earlier.
    When I run this it outputs the trace command 1 time and nothing more. Only the trace(trace(id3.artist + ' - ' + id3.songName);) gets triggered once.
    No errors. No warning. Not working.
    Thank you for helping me!

  • ITunes is randomly deleting ID3 tags track number data and album artwork

    A few weeks ago iTunes 10.5.3.3 starting deleting the amount of tracks available for an album and its artwork when I would play a song. Thus "4 of 12" would go to just "4". And in some cases the artwork I've had for years and years (since iTunes 6) is disappearing for an entire album when only one song is played as well. There is no pattern or any discernable reasoning of what tracks its choosing to do this with. It's really disheartening when you factor in all the time and effort involved  for nearly 10 years with making all of that data correct and adding customized artwork for 10,000+ songs for it to now just start disappearing randomly.
    I suspect my iTunes database file is corrupt, however, how do you fix that without losing all of your Playlists, Artwork, etc.?
    I've loved and had zero problems with this software until a few weeks ago. I'm a happy owner of multiple iPods for all this time and now this is disconcerting.

    The missing total track count numbers strongly points to Windows Media Player. It has a nasty habit of "refreshing" the metadata when you didn't ask it to. This can happen even if you don't use the program as a rule as it may be launched in the background when viewing certain media content on the web. Next time iTunes has a reason to inspect the tag, e.g. during playback, it will reveal the new data from the tag. In essense the damages is already done but iTunes has yet to notice all of it.
    For tips on getting WMP and iTunes to play nicely in future see this thread.

  • I changed the id3 tags of some mp3's how do i get my library to update?

    I have the latest version of itunes and i thought I used to be able to click an update button, but now I cant find the way to do this. ANyone know what i might be doing wrong?

    File/sync iPod. However, a sync should take place automatically when you connect the iPod, and this will reflect the changes you made to your library.

  • ITunes X id3

    Hello!!
    Well, when I edit my songs (in the iPod) info, like title, artisti, album... with iTunes, the changes are not made on the id3 tags to.

    Anyone knows how to fix? (if realy are something to fix...)
    Sorry for bad english and thank's!

  • Problem with ID3 tags in iTunes

    I was hoping that I could get some clarification on how iTunes uses ID3 tags with mp3s. The problem I am having is that I have fixed all the ID3 tags on my mp3s using another program (Tag & Rename is the name of the program, it does both v1 and v2 ID3 tags) but iTunes still doesn't recognize the changes I have made. I have tried deleting my entire library, and readding all the songs, but for some reason it still has the wrong information. I tried opening the files with other music players, and they read the ID3 tags fine.
    Thanks in advance!
    I don't know if this helps, but the most noticable program is with my compilations. I changed all the artists to the actual artist name instead of "Various" that it used to say, but iTunes still reports the artist as "Various".

    I routinely change file names, change ID3 tags, and edit existing tracks using external programs. Once done, all I do is to double click the track in iTunes to ensure it reads updated ID3 tag info correctly from the track.
    1. iTunes reads track info from the file everytime you play a track and saves any changes that you have made through external software to its internal database at "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml". As an alternative to playing, you could also press Ctrl-I to display track info, at which time it reads updated info from the track and displays it.
    2. If the filename has been changed for a track, iTunes prompts you to point to the right filename. When done, it populates ID3 tag info, while retaining the playcount and rating.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do i get all the tags i see in the iTunes library to be the ID3 tags?

    I have a huge collection of mp3 in iTunes (the latest version), and they are all perfectly organized, but when i open those mp3 files in any other player i see old tags or no tags, because the id3 tags on the mp3 files are not the same as the ones i see on itunes. I've tried the "convert id3 tags" tool but it does not seem to help. How do i get the id3 tags to be the same as iTunes tags?

    +HEy any reason why you pick version 2.3,+
    itunes didn't work well with 3rd-party plugins and v2.4, and former forum regular Otto told me to use v2.3
    +what is the difference between the different id3 tag versions..+
