Itunes DELETES APPS

The computer is a win 7 running itunes – we have a few itouches gen 3/4 (all different named) that sync with it.  All are using the same itunes account.  Most apps get downloaded directly from the itunes store via wifi.  We have lots of apple products but only use this computer for the kids itouches.
Yesterday, I wanted to put some Christmas music on the itouch from a CD I had, so I  plugged in the itouch.  As expected itunes woke up and started the sync.  It did the music just fine – BUT THEN when finished most of the apps from the itouch were gone.   We hope in the car to go 4 hours to grandma and my kid lost all his games.
Itunes did give me an error messase when I first plugged in the itouch - it told me that the devises backup was invalid and I needed to delete it.  I did not do that.  So it told me the backup was bad then went and DELETED 90% of the apps.
Yes we can download them again from itunes store – but many of these were games and had significant in games progress.  That’s all lost, and a big disappointment for the kid.
We do not sync a lot – the reason we do not sync a lot is that we don’t trust itunes.  This is not a one time thing. Itunes just is not reliable -  It not only deletes apps, it  wants to rearrange all apps.  My wife stopped using it for her apple products – it can’t be trusted.
Why the heck would developers create a system that deletes apps and messes up the devise it is supposed to be syncing with?   What do I need to do to prevent this?
My thinking now is to dump all my apple products (ipads/iphones/ipods) and go android.  I am more than frustrated.

If you haven't synced your iPhone again since the apps were re-installed and your iPhone's backup wasn't updated before the apps were re-installed, don't sync your iPhone with iTunes again and try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup. This will completely erase your iPhone followed by the firmware being re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup - which is the default selection. This must be followed by a sync to re-transfer your selected iTunes content including 3rd party apps. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup.

  • Need help: iTunes deletes apps every time I sync

I have a new 3g iPhone (8GB), and every single time I connect my phone to my computer iTunes does its usual thing by backing up what's on my phone, then promptly deletes everything. Every single time. This is so frustrating.
I had 38 apps this last time, and I am very tired of re-downloading all the apps every time.
I have asked this question in other places, but either get ignored or get smart *** remarks which are both unhelpful and turn me off from Apple products. So far no one has been helpful even in the least. I'm new to Apple products, my iPhone is my very first Apple anything... I admit I don't have a clue what I'm doing sometimes. So please take that into consideration.
One other thing, when iTunes deletes all my apps, it deletes them from iTunes as well. So I have nothing to put back onto my phone. I have to go back into the Apps Store and re-download EVERYTHING. Not fun. I'm tired of this and I only just bought the phone less than 2 weeks ago. Please help. Thanks.

I had a similar problem... then I realized that iTunes somehow lost the location of the actual app files on my computer. Try this:
In iTunes, Open the Applications Tab (if you don't see this, check Edit> Prefrences> General> make sure you have "Applications" checked) click on one of the apps and Get Info (Ctrl+Click/Right-Click).
If iTunes reports that "The Application Could Not Be Used... Would You Like To Locate...?" Click yes and use Finder/Explorer to locat the actual application file stored on your machine (Probabably someplace like ...iTunes/Mobile Applications) and bingo - problem solved.
For some reason, my iTunes was looking in my Temp folder, when the actual files were stored in their normal spot. In stead of moving the files from my phone back to my computer - it would just delete them from my phone. Now that I have relocated the files for itunes, they reappeared om my phone on the next sync.
I hope this helps you remedy your problem.

  • ITunes Deleted Apps

    I need help.
I recently had a virus on my laptop and had to reimage it from scratch. I had a backup of my iTunes library files (.xml and .itl). I used HEX editor to copy the hex from the old itl to the new one. I copied the id from the old xml to the new one. Libraries are good to go... iTunes sees the iPhone fine and doesn't complain about it not being assigned to the computer or anything like that.
What I failed to do: Register my computer with my iTunes account before syncing my iPhone. Upon doing this, iTunes deleted ALL my apps off my phone WITH NO WARNING!!! I am a developer, and was very careful in what I was doing before I did it as I know how flaky iTunes is.
Anyhow, I added this "new" computer to my iTunes account and re-downloaded ALL my apps (over 100).
    My problem:
My apps have lost all their content...
I am ripping mad. I had months worth of logs and data in my apps - a lot to do with monitoring a problem with my health. I feel like sueing Apple.
Does anyone know of anything I can do?
    Nate

All iTunes apps should be available in your iTunes library in a separate Mobile Applications folder at the first level within the iTunes named folder.
I recently purchased a new Mac and I transferred my entire iTunes named folder from my old Mac to my new Mac, but I authorized my new Mac with my iTunes account with iTunes before doing so. I synced my iPhone with iTunes on my new Mac including selected iTunes content and 3rd party apps and no iTunes content was erased from my iPhone first. I did nothing but transfer my entire iTunes named folder from my old Mac to my new Mac.
Since your apps are not in your iTunes library and you don't have sync applications selected under the Applications tab for your iPhone sync preferences or if selected, all apps on your iPhone will be erased.
3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app are included with your iPhone's backup. Did you transfer the backup for your iPhone from your computer's backup to your re-imaged drive so you can restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup where this data is stored?
IMO, iTunes isn't more flaky than that swiss cheese for security operating system that is Windows which is nothing but backwards engineered. Where is all the outrage at Microsoft for this? Costing people and businesses probably in the billions every year with lost data and time spent having to deal with all the insecurity. What a waste of money having to spend whatever is spent every year using anti-virus, anti-adware, anti-spyware, and anti-whatever that is required with Windows, which provides no certainty whatsoever. You should think about suing Microsoft.

  • ITunes deleted apps - still a warning message keeps appearing:  'iTunes has found purchased items on the iPhone..."

    Hi
I'm trying to delete apps in iTunes Library and from the iPhone.
    1.  Goto Library > Apps then I deleted the apps I dont use.
    2.  Goto the iPhone, select Apps then deleted apps from there that I'm no longer using.
    3.  Click Sync.  Then I get the following warning:
iTunes has found purchased items on the iPhone “4S 16GB iPhone” that are not present in your iTunes library. Do you want to transfer these items from this iPhone back to your iTunes library? If you do not transfer these purchased items to your iTunes library, they will be removed from the iPhone.
    4.  I clicked 'Dont Transfer'.  This is fine as I dont want the apps on the iPhone anymore.
    5.  I ejected the iPhone.
    6.  Later, I reconnect the iPhone again to iTunes.   The warning appears again:
iTunes has found purchased items on the iPhone “4S 16GB iPhone” that are not present in your iTunes library. Do you want to transfer these items from this iPhone back to your iTunes library? If you do not transfer these purchased items to your iTunes library, they will be removed from the iPhone.
    7.  Clicked 'Dont Transfer'.
    8.  Then I tried 'Transfer'. This transfered "something" .. I dont know what transferred as I had deleted a few apps.
Why does this warning keep appearing everytime I reconnect?  I'm not sure what it means or what it's meant to do.
Please can you advise me?  I dont know what I'm doing wrong.

Don't transfer, right click the device in iTunes and select Back Up.
Though, the iTunes interface is designed to be computer - phone and not the other way around, you may need to use something else to preserve your data.

  • Itunes deleting apps without request and without asking confirmation

as soon I install itunes, I have a huge slow down of all XP. Installation takes a long time, it freezes XP very often. Once it s installed, it takes a long time to start (often more than 1 minute), often freezes XP. quicktime steals the default access for mp4 files, each time I try to use explorer on a folder with MP4 files, xp freezes for minutes, it never shows previews, takes a long time to start when it effectivly starts, reads a lot less than open readers like vlc or mpc. when I try to set another reader as default reader for MP4, quicktime keeps the hand on it, cannot get rid of freezes withoout deleting quicktime, witch make itunes unavailable
LAST BONUS: after having reinstalled itunes to sync my contacts, it tried to sync the apps without beung asked (maybe because i dowloaded 2 apps on my computer) and STARTED TO DELETE ALL OTHER APPS WITHOUT ASKING CONFIRMATION DELETTING ALL MY DATAS
    TOO MUCH FOR ME
    BYE ITUNES

No, they actually thought that people would use autosync and have one master library. They didn't think that people had 3 or 4 computers that they would spread their music/videos over. Why not combine all your files on one computer?
As far as music/videos from your Aunt's computer, those aren't yours and the other reason for Apple doing what you want is they don't want people stealing music. Please don't steal music.
One more thing, on your master computer that the iPod is linked to, set it to manually manage your music and you can use it between different computers. You will have to eject it manually every time you are through syncing/charging and want to remove it.

  • ITunes deleted apps from my touch

Coincidental or not, before syncing my touch I upgraded the OS to 3.1.1.
Previously my iTunes wasn't backing up my apps; my touch is a couple weeks old, and I hadn't set up iTunes to do so. Tonight I set up iTunes to back up the apps. When I synced, there was a message saying something to the effect of "There are apps on your touch that are not in iTunes. Do you want to copy them to iTunes?" I agreed, and then they were deleted from the touch.
The apps appeared in iTunes, but when I tried to restore them back to the touch, they were all deleted from iTunes.
Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Obviously, restoring from a backup is your first option.
Otherwise, it sounds like - or at least it's possible - that you may have accidentally made two accounts.
If the aforementioned doesn't work, try logging onto iTunes, and then log onto your iTunes Store. The pulldown will have a field for entering your item's email address. Try using another iTunes email address and see what happens.
If this doesn't work, I'd try another approach. First, redownload any free apps. Second, go to Your home/Library/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications. In Mobile Applications, you should find an archive of your Apps. Drag copies of the Apps you need onto the iTunes/Applications window. Now, sync your unit.

  • How do i delete apps on itunes ??? i went to the library and it only shows a few apps that i have.  But when i go into my account i can see all of the apps i have downloaded.  soooo how do i delete the apps that are only showing in my account?

How do I delete an app on iTunes?  I can delete the apps that are shown in the library of iTunes by right clicking and hitting "delete".  But all of my apps aren't shown in the library (I don't understand that either).  I can see all downloaded apps in my account though. But I don't see how to delete them from there.

If you plug in your iphone, click on it in iTunes, and go to the apps section, it should be checked to sync apps if you want them to show up in iTunes as well as your iPhone. Once synced they will show on both.
Then if you click Apps under the Library header in the left panel of iTunes, you'll be able to permanently delete apps, removing them entirely from iTunes. Highlight an app's icon or a group of icons by holding down Shift and hit the delete key (or select Edit > Delete from the top menu or right-click on an icon and selecting delete).

  • How can I delete apps in iTunes and have that sync to my iPhone and iPad?

How can I delete apps in iTunes and have that sync to my iPhone and iPad? I don't want to delete 3 separate times for each item. I just carefully chose 30-35 apps to get rid of via iTunes, hoping it would sync to my devices, only to find I have to repeat the process on my iPad, take notes, then repeat it on my iPhone. It wasn't always so tedious was it?
Here's the "Help" I got from Apple. They even quoted my question back to me then proceeded to answer with something very different and completely missing the point.
I understand that you would like to delete the Apps. I know how eager you are to get the required information and I will be happy to assist you.
You can remove individual songs, audiobooks, and videos from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Removing an item from your device doesn't delete it from your iTunes library.
To remove items from a device other than an iPod shuffle, first make sure that iTunes is set up to manually manage items.
    1. Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
    2. When the iPod, iPhone, or iPad icon appears in iTunes, select it.
    3. Unless your device is an iPod shuffle, click the Summary tab and make sure "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music" is selected.
    4. If the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad (below Devices) is closed, click the triangle so that you can see the device's contents.
    5. Select the item you want to delete and press the Delete key.
This was not helpful in any way and I am still unable to delete apps on my devices in a global, iTunes based way. Each device still requires its own independent process.

Match was off.  I made all of the changes and then went through the "Turn on iTunes Match" option.  I now have deleted some tracks, edited the Metadata in CDDA, and then added it back.  This worked fine, but it is not a good solution.
I just tried making some edits and use the "Update iTunes Match" and that seemed to work.  It looks like the real answer is that Match must be up and operational, then you can make changes and run the Update to incorporate the changes.  However, if Match has a problem then Signing Out and back in to your store account and going through the process of Turning On Match (were you get the questions, "Add this Computer to Match" will overwrite any changes.
Since this relies on the stability of iTunes, I won't be making a lot of changes between updates.

  • How to sync deleted app same on iTunes same on device in one step ?

Using XP 32bit with iTunes 11.1.3.8 and ios 7.0.4 on ipad 3, when deleting an app and syncing using the usb cord,
I have to do twice, so once in itunes library the other time in device app tab., this to have "aligned" same pc same ipad.
If I do only one of the two steps the deleted app remains still or on device or on iTunes library.
So how to delete and sync the device only with one step (with iTunes 10.6.3 this was possible) ?
If it is called sync it has to do sync or not ?
    Thanks

You can also *Transfer purchases from device* to copy all your purchased content into the new library. If you've got media on the phone that wasn't backed up from the old machine then you should probably take a look at this post from Zevoneer for options on moving your data back to a computer.

I've just discovered that with the newest version of iTunes you can no longer delete iPod Touch/iPhone apps you don't want.  You used to be able to do so by going onto iTunes on your desktop computer and deleting them.   Not Good!  I just called tech support and they said that in this version there is no way to delete them. They also said there have been numerous complaints about this.  You can't even delete them from your applications folder.  It's as though you're being held hostage to apps you tried, but do not want.
While we're on the subject, I don't like the fact the the iPod touch comes with unistalable apps such as: Passbook, Nike & iPod, Newsstand, and Game Center. Don't want them, will never use them.  Give customers the option to delete apps that we don't want.  Call Apple's corporate customer care. escalation, and complain untill they fix this.

    Actually,
    Step 1:
    Step 2.
    Step 3.
    Step 4.
    Step 5.
One of us must be wrong.

  • How can I stop iTunes adding apps I've deleted onto my phone?

I have an iPhone 4 which is fully updated and I'm using iTunes 10.4.0.80 (although this has been a problem with previous versions as well) on Windows 7.
When I try to sync my phone to my computer it tries to install all the apps I've installed and deleted from my phone since I last synced. I've only got a 16GB phone and I tend to install and delete apps regularly, so this fills up any available space and prevents me from syncing what I wanted to sync to my phone in the first place. The check box for "automatically sync new apps" is unchecked. I can (and at the moment, I have to) go through the list and uncheck every app that iTunes has checked for me, but with over 1000 apps backed up on my iTunes this is extremely tedious, and given that iTunes runs extremely slowly on my computer it often takes me more than 4 hours to do. It is slightly quicker to uncheck and recheck sync apps, then manually add back all the apps I want to keep, but I still have to (still extremely slowly) scroll through the list to add back in the same set of apps each time. Even if I could use the phone display on the right hand side of the screen to delete the new apps it would be easier, but no matter what I do to the display, if I don't uncheck them in the list they just get added back on again anyway.
Is there a way around this or am I stuck devoting hours to syncing my phone every time I want to move stuff between my computer and my phone?

Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
