ITunes deleting and resyncing 200 songs issue

Every time I sync my iPod Touch, iTunes removes approximately 220 of my songs and then "re-syncs" them onto the iPod. This happens without altering my iTunes library at all. And if I look at the sync bar in iTunes it is always the exact same 200+ songs. It makes syncing take much longer than it needs to. Any suggestions?

When you say that it is taking longer, do you mean that its taking like 5, 10 minutes longer to sync, or like a minute longer. Itunes and the ipod will update song info on the ipod like play count info, or any changed playlists. It will not actually change the songs, but you will see it updating the info for the individual songs and playlists on the ipod. If it is actually changing 200+ songs its going to add a significant amount of time, like 5 ten minutes every sync. Which is it?

  • Used iTunes match and states 2400 songs matched, yet no icloud matching

Used iTunes match and states 2400 songs matched, yet no icloud logos next to my songes except a few indicating duplicates and no songs match to my iphone. Help. I've tried re-matching, turning icloud off/on. no luck. No songs now on iphone. Any suggestestion.

If you right-click on the header bar above your music and select "iCloud Status" it'll show you exactly what their status is and if they've been matched, uploaded or are still waiting to be processed and/or uploaded.
You may need to quit iTunes and relaunch it to kick-start the process again if Match says it's done but your libraries show differently.

  • There are 96 songs on my iPhone and over 200 songs in iTunes that I DID NOT download.

I don't know where these all came from. I have several whole albums by the fray, a few dozen songs from various artists and genres, and about 40 "songs" that have only a 14-16 digit number for a title and no artist/album/genre (For example: 20091024 163343 1 is a "song" that is 15 seconds long). These vary in length from 1 second to 10 minutes. Here's what I've tried so far:
I opened the music app > songs > tried to left swipe and delete the songs one at a time. That didn't work.
I opened itunes on my computer and tried to delete the songs. I can "hide purchase from acount history", but I can't delete the songs from my library.
I can't play the songs that just appeared OR the songs I actually have downloaded (I can't play the music on my phone or on the computer).  When I try to play any song on the phone, it just shuffles through album covers on the play screen, but won't actually play any song. I don't know where this music came from or where my music went. I think I just got charged for all this music taking up too much space on the icloud though.
Does anyone know where this could have come from or how to get rid of it? Or how to get my music to play?

Oh, it looks like a friend accidently synced their playlist to my account. Thanks for your help.

  • My iTunes library and metadata/ID3 tags issue

Since 2010, iTunes is the only media player I use to play music. My library consists of music purchased from the iTunes Store, CD rips and stuff many artists these days release as freebies on the internet to promote a new album. Also, M4A and MP3 are the only formats I use so far.
Since iTunes, I really got into editing my library's metadata tags by hand, in order to create a custom archive which serves my preferences best. I should mention that besides iTunes being the only software I use to play my music library, it's also the only software I use to edit their metadata. Also, before iTunes – when my library was on different media players – I never bothered with editing them.
A few days ago, I found how a lot of people in forums complain about the way iTunes edits and stores metadata. So, I experimented and moved a few of my songs to other media players after editing their tags within iTunes. And indeed the tags and/or artwork were often displayed messed up and/or incorrect, some times partially and some times completely.
Some people were referring to the version of the ID3 tags being the issue, while others suggested using the "convert ID3 tags" feature. I myself am a little bit confused. "Converting the ID3 tags" wasn't available for my M4A files and once I performed it for my MP3's I didn't know which setting I should apply or what version to choose. I chose one version randomly but I'm not sure what happened.
My goal is to make my music library able to play and display my custom metadata on the majority of the popular media players. I hope that firstly this is possible and that secondly it won't be a solution which requires me going through every single song individually.
I really hope that all those years work on my library wasn't for nothing.
I'm using a MacBook running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and my iTunes version is 10.7
While my music library is more important that my iTunes version, I do like iTunes 10 more than 11.
I apologize for any grammar mistakes, since English is not my first language. Thank you all for your time and any suggestion is welcome.

Hello turingtest2 and thank you for your reply.
In response to "a possible cause of problems is multiple embedded tags", what exactly does that mean and how can I avoid doing it in the future?
Anything ripped with iTunes should get a single tag. If multiple tags in some of your older mp3 rips are the cause of the problems when you try to access the files elsewhere then you should apply the suggested remedy selectively, not to the whole library indiscriminately. Once fixed you shouldn't have the problem again unless you use different ripping software. If so check the options to ensure you generate a single ID3v2.3 tag. Downloads from elsewhere are pot luck.
If I use Convert ID3 Tags>None before converting to v2.3 as you suggested, how many times is "several times" and why do I have to do it more than once? Also, what are your thoughts on 'v2.3 vs. v2.4'?
Several is at least two, but more could be needed if a file has both v1 and v2 tags in multiple languages. If there are two tags, the first conversion to none should remove the first one, and the second conversion the second. Experiment, And stick to v2.3.
In response to "the process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows". All fields excluding cover art remain the same? Does that mean that I will have to start from scratch and apply new cover art individually for each album? That would be too time consuming given the fact that I embed custom art.
Yes, everything but artwork is held in the iTunes database and is restored with the final Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. Use Doug's scripts SaveAlbumArtJpeg before you start and RestoreArtworkFromAlbumFolder afterwards to save and the restore your existing artwork.
Also, what happens with my M4A files' metadata? ID3 tags are only used for MP3's, right?
Yes, m4a/aac files have a different tag mechanism. Multiple ID3 tags is just one possible issue that you might have. You said:
So, I experimented and moved a few of my songs to other media players after editing their tags within iTunes. And indeed the tags and/or artwork were often displayed messed up and/or incorrect, some times partially and some times completely.
It might be worth going into some more detail about exactly what differences you noticed. iTunes can automatically associate (instead of embedding) artwork when it can match the album in the store which could be why some tracks didn't get artwork.

  • ITunes iPhone and Windows Vista - Syncing Issue

I was trying to upload 2 new albums I have and it seems it re-synced my whole music library to my iphone.
Is there a video or something I can watch that shows how to use iTunes correctly, and to sync new songs without having to re-sync the whole entire library to my iPhone.
    Thanks.
Black MacBook, 2.0GHz Core Duo, 1GB Ram, 80GB, Superdrive   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8GB iPhone

There really isnt much to syncing music. I have read several posts of folks complaining that making a simple change to one song caused the entire library to resync.
Suggestion - turn off automatic syncing when you plug your iPhone. Then choose Sync only selected items, and then select all your music. Sync. Then make a change to one song and manually sync again. See if only that one song syncs.

  • Itunes deleted all of my songs

My family got a new computer and i wanted to put itunes on it. When i loaded itunes and plugged my ipod in, itunes deleted every last song i had. what do i do? an how can i get them back?

You apparently had your iPod on autosync. You should have gotten a message when you docked the iPod to the new computer that said something to the effect about your iPod is set-up for another iTunes library, do you want to make this iTunes library the one on your iPod? Yes or NO. Those aren't the exact words, but I think you get the message. You apparently said Yes. Bottom line when you said yes, docked to an empty iTunes library, the autosync wiped out the contents of your iPod. The purpose of autosync is to make the iPod contents a mirror image of iTunes contents, no iTunes content, no iPod contents. Unfortunately, unless you had your library backed up or still have access to the other computer, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do. If you do have access to the other computer that still has your library, simply re-sync your iPod to that computer. By all means, DO NOT DOCK you iPod to the new system until you have iTunes completely installed & your library has been moved to the new system.

  • Discrepancy between iTunes library and synced iPod song list

I am sure there must be a really simple answer to this, but heck if I know.
My iTunes library on my PC has 1614 songs, yet despite my iPod being sync'd, my song list shows only 1588 songs.
So, 25 tracks have not loaded - why is this? Surely there should be exactly the same number of tracks in my song list?
    H E L P - its driving me mad.

I have a 24 track difference between my itunes library and my song list in my synced ipod. Really bugging me as I don't know why - have ensured all songs are checked, but still no answer. Where are the missing 24 songs?
Surely someone out there must know the answer - HELP!

  • I synced my iPhone and iTunes deleted many of my songs

My lifetime of CDs that I had burned to MP3s are now gone.  Is it just part of the Apple scam to delete anything that wasn't bought on iTunes, is it part of the post-Jobs ineptitude, or is there some way to salvage?

If not in your iTunes library on your computer, no. I don't believe the VLC player is available in the iTunes store anymore.

  • ITunes Match and storing some songs on an IOS 6 device?

iTunes Match collects and matches the music collection on your computer and puts it in the iCloud so your iPhone or iPad has access to all of your music via a wireless or mobile network.
The downside is sometimes you don't have access to a high speed network so songs don't want to play. So, here is my question: Is it possible to set-up an IOS 6 device to sync with iTunes Match but also set-up additional playlists of music that are stored on the device hard drive?
I just noticed that you can download songs or whole playlists from the iCloud to your device. How long does the device store those songs? Can it be set-up to store them for for a certain amount of time?

With iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device traditional syncing via USB is disabled. All music managment must take place directly on the device.

The songs will be stored on the device until you delete them. There is no "timer" feature, though.

  • ITunes re-purchasing the same song issue.

If you purchase a song from iTunes and then you lose the song due to an iPhone restore, but they never saved to  your computer. Do you need to buy them again, because I keep getting the error - "You haver purchased this song before. Would you like to purchase it again by ordering this pre-order?" does this mean that it is going to charge me AGAIN. because thats not fair...

Currently only in the US can you re-download music for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 - anywhere else and you need to re-purchase. Even if you are in the US then you should be backing up your purchases because there is no guarantee that content will remain available in the store, and therefore it may no longer be there for re-downloading.
If you havn't made backups then you can try contacting Apple and see if they will allow a re-download : http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/contact/ - but they are under no obligation to do so

  • ITunes 7 and World of Warcraft issue

It seems upgrading to iTunes 7 has a funky effect on World of Warcraft. While trying to play iTunes in the background and playing World of Warcraft the sound speeds up and slows down, skipping around and is completely horrible to listen to. With iTunes 6 I had no problems listening to great music while playing WoW. Anyone else have a similar issue. Nothing else has changed hardware or software wise since the 'upgrade' from iTunes 6 to 7. I have no way of narrowing down the issue but its definately something that iTunes 7 is doing as nothing else has changed. Any chanages to duel-core processor support by chance? Anyone else getting this or similar issues while using iTunes while playing games?

It seems to be a problem with iTunes and many other applications, not just World of Warcraft. Here's a post from the WoW tech support forum about it:

There's a setting you can adjust in WoW's configuration file that works for some people, but not for everyone.

In the meantime, we wait for Apple to fix their music player.

  • Itunes update and resyncing

Today I got an update message to update itunes. Did that no problem, however I decided to sync a few items and plugged in my ipad and it started to search for a driver. I was rather surprised at that. I tried several times with no luck. My PC is looking for a driver and tells me it was not successful and has encountered an unspecified error. I have tried to sync several times. I have also tried to find a driver.
    HELP PLEASE.

  • ITunes Plus and $1.29 songs???

I recently got an e-mail or read something on iTunes within the last month that every single song was now iTunes plus. So why is it that 2-3 times a week when I get on iTunes, it's asking me to pay 30 cents to upgrade another song? Shouldn't I be done paying for those? Am I the only one that remembers reading something like that?
Also, what's with the $1.29 songs? I thought 99 cents was asking a lot, but now I'm done with iTunes, I'll just buy my music elsewhere. Before you know it there will be $2.00 songs...

So why is it that 2-3 times a week when I get on iTunes, it's asking me to pay 30 cents to upgrade another song? Shouldn't I be done paying for those?
Just because all the songs were made available in iTunes Plus format didn't necessarily mean that the Store managed to connect and convert all the tracks you purchased. They've been going through and fixing the links between items for weeks. Nor did all the tracks that once were in the iTunes Store remain once they went to all iTunes Plus. For instance, I had a Frank Zappa track whose entire catalog was removed some time back and so for weeks I couldn't upgrade that track. But now some of his material is back in the iTunes Store. So when new items appear, it's because either 1) they fixed a link and now the Upgrade feature is recognizing a track where it didn't before or 2) tracks have come back to the iTunes Store that were removed earlier. You may see other tracks in your library still as "protected" if you show your music with the "Kind" column turned on.
Also, what's with the $1.29 songs? I thought 99 cents was asking a lot, but now I'm done with iTunes, I'll just buy my music elsewhere.
As was announced several weeks ago, Apple agreed to variable pricing as the price of being allowed to sell tracks without copy protection. The other download stores carrying content from the major record labels are also going to variable pricing, though prices differ from store to store so you can shop around.
Before you know it there will be $2.00 songs...
If the record companies had their way, the most popular tracks would probably indeed be $2.00.

  • ITunes 6 and External Hard Drive issue. Please Help!!

    Hi Gang!
I'm having problems when using iTunes 6 to work with my external HD as my iTunes Music library vault.
Under iTunes Advanced section I have set my Preference to change my music library from my iMac G5 to my external HD. Everything works fine, but everytime I restart my computer, iTunes automaticaly sets the Preferences back to the Music Library folder in the iMac G5 instead of the the external HD. I never had this problem before with other versions of iTunes.
Am I missing something or is there an extra step I should take to having iTunes accept the external HD as my permanent iTunes Music Library holder?
    Thanks for any input.
    Alex

    Hi TP2GO!!!
Thanks for your reply!! You mention that this problem is being caused due to the fact that my external HD is not available at start up. But the driver is always available, since it is always hooked up to my iMac at all times. I've noticed, though, that iTunes starts up at login and maybe system is running it before it runs my external HD (if I follow your logic), possibly causing iTunes to set the iTunes library back to default since it cannot find the external driver where the new library should rest. So, my new question is: how do I disable iTunes from running at start up to try and see if this is what's causing my problem?
Thanks very much indeed for your input!!!!
    Alex
