Hey there!
I added a picture to the iPod and now I do see it on "My Computer" so cheers for that, and thanks for the explanation on why it wouldn't show with iTunes installed. Really appreciate that
However, I do still get that odd error message, and while it does not affect me directly, would be good to know why it is doing that!

  • IPhone is not recognized in iTunes -- Diagnostic Tests

Hi, I've been tying to get my iPhone to show up in iTunes for over 10 hours now and to no avail, still can't get it to work. I've tried literally everything...reinstalled iTunes, reinstall drivers, Apple mobile Device service, check usb, and still nothing. It's very frustrating as I can't activate my new iPhone 4. It does recognize it if it goes into DFU/Recovery mode which leads me to believe it is not a hardware problem. When I try to recover the software/firmware, I get a 1004 error so I uusally just kick it out of recovery mode.
Here is the Diagnostic tests from iTunes.

    1.     Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and chooseUpdate Driver from the shortcut menu.
    2.     Click "Browse my computer for driver software."
    3.     Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
    4.     Click the Have Disk button.  ** IMPORTANT** (If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)
    5.     In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.
    6.     Use this window to navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
    7.     Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
    8.     Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.
    9.     Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.

  • HT4235 HELP! I am trying to synch my ipod classic after a few years of non use of itunes. I cannot do so. Diagnostic tests, specifically Device Synch Tests report that "no ipod found".  What have I got to do please?

HELP!!!!  I am attempting to synch my ipod Classic but have not used itunes for a few years. My ipod refuses to synch & its driving me crazy as I know nothing about computers either. I have run the diagnostics, specifically the Device Synch Tests which report that "no ipod found" although it is showing up clearly in itunes itself.  So its recognized and showing me my libraries but is unrecognised when it comes to synching.  I gave tried a few tips from previous similar queries (unchecking various boxes) and nothing is working. I am using Windows 7 64. Can anybody assist please??

You could try the DFU restore method in Corrupt iPod classic.
Or visit http://www.apple.com/uk/support/contact/ to explore your support options. Is the device still in warranty?

  • My ipod touch can't be found when I run a diagnostic test, on 3 different computers!

I have a 64GB 4th generation iPod touch for about a year and half now, but suddenly when I plug it into my computer, it will begin charging but it won't show up in devices under itunes. When I ran a diagnostic test, it says my ipod can't be found. I ran a diagnostic test on 3 different computers that have the latest verison of itunes installed, once on a laptop and twice on a desktop computer and it still can't be found. I've reinstalled itunes and all of it's components and also restarted my ipod. I finally erased all the data off my ipod and set it up as a new ipod (because I can't use it if I set it up as backup) and deleted any recent music I downloaded and it still can't be found. If anyone could help me, please let me know right away or I'll be selling the ipod and buying a new one.

I am not sure what is happening, but I may know how to fix it.
Plug it into a computer, press and hold the lock and home buttons, and the ipod will turn off. When the apple logo appears, let go of the lock button but keep holding the home button until iTunes says it has detected an ipod in recovery mode.

  • My device is recognized by itunes but won't sync and failed the sync diagnostic test.  I've restarted the computer, reset the ipod . . . nothing works.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

iTunes shows the iPod is connected but doesn't show it in the drop down menu under Devices, and the "sync" option is grayed out, so I can't sync the nano with iTunes.  I ran the diagnostic tests and it shows the device is connected, but it failed the sync test - it said nothing was connected, even though it passed the connectivity test.  We've had the iPod for a few months but this is the first time we've tried to do anything with it.  It's fully charged but just won't sync.  I turned it off, turned it on.  I reset it.  I restarted the computer.  I'm not sure where to go from here.

A couple of things to check:
Are there any backups listed in iTunes/settings/devices? Since backing up is the first step of the sync process, iTunes might be stuck trying to read the content of the last backup in order to replace it with the new one.
Copy the whole backup folder to a safe place, delete the backup from the list afterwards and make sure that the folder has no content after that. The folder is located here:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files
After that, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose "backup". If you can backup manually, transfer your purchases the same way, to copy apps and purchased media to your iTunes. If this worked, you should be able to sync again.
To speed up the sync process, copy your photos to your computer prior to the sync and delete them on your ipod before you start.

  • ITunes 11.0.2.26 for Windows - No CDs showing up in Library on left - but passes diagnostic test?

I have imported CDs successfully into this latest version of iTunes before. Today when I insert an audio CD to import, nothing show up in the LIbrary to allow me to import it.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit - and Windows recognises and autoplays / plays the audio CD in VLC player with no problem. When I select 'Show CD in iTunes' from the autoplay menu, iTunes opens but no CD shows up.
I ran the iTunes CD diagnostic test (and the other tests) and it passed everything. I've included the log below. This is the case with every CD I've tried.
I've tried uninstalling, and installing a fresh download of iTunes, rebooting several times, removing the lower buffer in the registry, opening iTunes directly from the .exe - as an administrator, nothing I try is making any difference - the CDs simply do now display in iTunes (which is set in the preferences to display tracks).
    Any suggestions are most welcome.

Mine is a brand new machine. Burning software was installed before iTunes was installed. I am looking at this article which points to a possible problem with the GEAR drivers: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
It also points to the afs.sys and afs2k.sys drivers as a potential problem. I've verified that I don't have these drivers on my machine.
When I go to the GEAR site, it tells you to manually uninstall the GEAR drivers and install the latest ones. First, manual uninstall which involves editing the registry. Really? While I'm quite the expert at registry editing, NO CONSUMER should ever be told to edit the registry to delete anything. Second, if in fact the GEAR drivers are the problem, shouldn't iTunes install the right ones? This is a prime example of poor software engineering at its core.

Also, when I go the Map application, the iphone indicate that I'm locateded in China while I'm in Tunisia. Now, I can't connect to my iphone to itunes, and I can't reset it because it ask me to enter a password that I didn't set.

My Ipod Classic shows a red circle with a cross in the middle. I've completed diagnostic tests which have popped up, however any HP/FW/Hard Drive tests freeze the ipod, as if the hard drive won't spin. What do I do?
After holding down the Select and Play/Pause button, I was able to restart the Ipod and then it brought me to a Diagnositc test. I have tried doing both the Mannual and Annual test on the ipod however in each test, the ipod freezes on different access tests. The HP (headphones) test, shows the headphones are detected, but then if it tries to play a song to make sure they work it freezes and goes back to the red cross. I have looked at various other questions regarding the FW cable, however I don't believe i have such a cabel. Then the Hard Drive test freezes up and I can hear a ticking noise coming from the drive but it doesnt seem to be spinning. Alongside these test issues, any computer cannot see the Ipod when plugged in (including itunes). Therefore some tests for the USB drive cannot be completed. I do not recall dropping it badly, though I have dropped it previously. Does all this mean there is damage to the drive? Should I instead take it to an apple store?
    Many Thanks

The stats look fine. Try the DFU Restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic. It may pay to disable any anti-virus software and use the staged transfer method to reload data, assuming you get that far.

  • Ok, so last week I updated itunes on my computer. I have windows vista. Up until that point I was able to connect to the itunes store most of the time, but after that update I have not been able to connect. I have ran the diagnostic test and it says that

Sorry this is the 1st time on here. The diagnostic test said that I did not have a safe connection. I have even went as far as to delete Itunes from my computer twice and reinstall, but still luck. I have read several suggestions on here, but still to no avail. Please help me!!

    Hi Dalegu219,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iTunes library is on an external hard drive, but iTunes is not recognizing the library, first make sure the right library is selected.
You can use these steps to make sure iTunes is opening the library on your external drive:
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
You should see one of these screens:
Pick Choose Library and locate the library on your external hard drive.
    From:
iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one - Apple Support
If the right library is selected, but you do not see your songs, try re-creating the library using the instructions found here:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - Apple Support
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

Try here.  Start with the one the best fits your symptoms.
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
iPod: Does not appear in Windows or iTunes and Device Manager is empty
