ITunes diagnostics can't recognize iPod though iTunes itself can

iTunes does open up when I plug in my ipod and I can also delete or add music to it. However, if I run the diagnostics in the Device sync tests it will be in red and say, "No iPod Touch, iPhone or ipad found." 1st why is 'it' not found since stuff could be done to it. And 2nd why does it say "iPod Touch, iPhone or ipad" since it isn't any of these really? Certainly the test is not made for only those 3 hence my question it.
Thank you
Ipod 5th geeratuion
itunes ver 10.6
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 544bit

It should be a bit further up on the report.  I'll try to post a screen shot a little later on or if you are up for it, post your diagnostic test reports.
"One or more tests failed." this to me begs 2 questions; Well is it on or two? how could it not know?
It should tell you what failed.  If not, you should still be able to determine what failed from looking at the report.

  • Help, Windows recognizes ipod but itunes doesn't

ive tried everything that ive seen listed but nothing seems to work. My issue is that Windows recognizes ipod but itunes doesn't. I would really apprecaite it if someone could help me with this issue.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear this is still happening. I had the same problem until this newest version of itunes. The thing that always worked for me earlier was the re-starting of the ipod service. I have nothing else.
    Good luck

  • ITunes 7 Does Not Recognize iPod

    Hi All,
Looks like iTunes 7 has a lot of issues on the Windows platform... here's mine.
I had iTunes 6 installed. I uninstalled it, installed iTunes 7 to use my new 80GB iPod (iTunes 6 said the new iPod needs iTunes 7).
iTunes saw the iPod only ONCE. Afterwards, no matter what I do, when I plug the iPod in, iTunes ignores it. It shows up as a drive in Windows just fine every time and I can read and write files to it.
I followed all the steps in the Apple support article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 to no avail.
The strangest thing is that when I installed iTunes 7 on another machine that never had iTunes installed before, it recognized my iPod just fine.
Can someone shed some light on this bizzare behavior?

Also, you are saying the iPod is not showing up in iTunes, right? Does it say Do Not Disconnect? Either way, see this...

Finally, when you connect the iPod open My Computer. Do you see it there? If so...

  • ITunes do not detect / recognize iPod Touch 64 GB

    Hello Everyone,
I am Aaron from South India. Recently, I bought my first Apple product - brand new iPod Touch 64 GB.
I connected it to the Computer (Windows XP with iTunes 2009) in our Church. The iPod connected to the system without any issues, allowed me to set the initial settings in iTunes and I was able to sync some movies and music files wonderfully.
Later, I installed the same iTunes in my system (Windows XP) at home and tried to connect my iPod. My computer recognized the iPod as a Camera and displayed it under "Scanners and Cameras". Then I started the iTunes and the iTunes couldn't recognize it. I ran the Diagnostics under the [Help] menu and the result is that "No iPhone / iPod found" though the iPod is connected to the Computer. I tried the following to solve this issue:
    1. I tried unistalling and reinstalling the iTunes. - Failed.
    2. Deleted the iPod under the "Scanners and Cameras" and tried the reinstallation of iTunes - Failed.
    3. Stopped the Apple Services and restarted the Services - Failed.
    4. Uninstalled all the Apple sofrwares through Add / Remove Programs in the following order:
    iTunes
    quicktime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Restarted the system and reinstalled iTunes. - Failed.
    5. Had iTunes already running. Connected the iPod, holded the Top Button and Home button at the same time, waited for apple icon to appear on screen, let go the top button, continued to hold the Home button. Theoretically, iTunes should display a message if I want to restore and I should have clicked "Yes". Unfortunately, nothing happened. - Failed
Can someone shed some light please? Appreciate your valuable help!
    Regards
    Gokul

No... that didn't work... installing iTunes over iTunes again too didn't work.
I think the problem could be that when I plug the iPod, the system recognizes it as a "Camera" and not as a Apple Device...
Does anyone know how to handle this?

  • Cannot update itunes and doesn't recognize ipod anymore

cannot install the new version 6.04. I have gone through the support section. It states to update the following registry:
    # In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click Common Administrative Tools.
    # In the Value data box of the Edit String dialog box that appears, type the following line, and then click OK:
    %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
The problem is I don't have a line that states "common administrative tools" to update. I am using windows xp. Any suggestions.
Also, Itunes no longer even recognizes when my ipod is plugged in.

Hmm....I just had another thought.  All the machines are running Win7 SP1, BUT the 2 that can sync with MSE installed are 32bit versions, however the one that can't is 64bit.  Not sure if that makes any difference though.  All are clean installs with Win7SP1 media, not SP1 installed later.

  • Can not edit ipod in itunes

iTunes recognizes my ipod, but it will not let me edit the ipod information. I can not click on my ipod music or create new folders in my ipod. I have reset and restored my ipod to the original factory settings. It will transfer all the selected music from my library to my ipod, but once it is finished it will kick it out.
      Windows 2000

If you restored the iPod then it is most likely at the default update setting which is automatic. If the text is when you look at the content and there's lock symbol at the bottom of the screen that would also show that your iPod is set to auto-sync. If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage music and videos" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing content manually on iPod
Remember to that if your iPod is switched to manually updating that it also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

  • Can't see ipod in itunes or my computer

HELP.Tried all recomended fixes in help forum. Background: power outage while ipod connected to PC. ipod frooze. Have reset ipod and ipod works, however when connecting to pc it is not visible in my computer or itunes. Have deleted itunes (V8) as recommended in help forum, and reloaded itunes 9. Done all the stuff and still can't see it. Have loaded itunes on my sons PC, and he can't see it either. Run diagnostics under help menu in itunes and says "ipod not connected", however it is showing charging on the ipod. Under my computer(right click)/properties/device manager, it shows "Apple ipod USB Driver" when I plug it in. It does not show up under my cumputer(left click) or in itunes. It used to work fine prior to the power failure (African curse). As I've said, I have done all recommended fixes mentioned in the Apple support pages. It seems to me that the problem is still with the ipod. When I plug it in the ipod charges and all the menues and options are available as if it weren't plugged in. It does not show connected or anything. Hope this gives a good description of what I've tried and happend. Thanks Drummer boy1960

my ipod isn't registering to my computer or itunes either, and since it is not charging it wont turn on. Can I ask what you did to fix yours?

  • IMac recognizes iPod, but iTunes does not...and freezes.

    Hello.
When I connect my iPod Classic (I have reset it), the icon appears on my iMac, but it does not in iTunes, and iTunes immediately freezes, necessitating a force quit. iTunes is fine without the iPod connected.
I have upgraded iTunes from 9.2 to 10.0, but the problem remains. Can anyone offer help or suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hello Jerry,
Here is the Apple support document related to your issue.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410
If no luck there, I would try reformatting the iPod via Disk Utility using the instructions in this article.

Other than that though, I don't have too much for suggestions. Best of luck.

  • Can not open ipod in itunes and a little lock is showed on the bottom

how do i unlock my ipod in itunes because i can't open it and can't view the files on the ipod and only on itunes...how do i unlock my ipod???? please help

The lock icon indicates that iTunes is set to synchronize to your iPod automatically, which means that you do not manage the tracks directly on your iPod, you make changes in iTunes itself. If you want to manage your iPod directly, change the iPod Options in iTunes to manually manage your iPod. To do this, connect your iPod and click the iPod Options button at the bottom of iTunes (or right-click on the iPod icon if you have iTunes 7). Click the Music button and select "Manually manage songs and playlists." You can then delete tracks directly from your iPod (they will not be correspondingly deleted from iTunes). You'll have to drag songs from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list to add new tracks.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.
