ITunes Directory Problem

I recently installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 on to my laptop. After the install I can't open itunes. Now, I uninstalled service pack 1 and uninstalled Quicktime and iTunes. Now, after downloading the newest version of iTunes...it seems I have a directory problem.
The error msg reads: An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\QuickTime 7.50.61.0
It was also saying the same thing about iTunes directory. I talked to people from apple and microsoft...nobody has an answer. I need help!
Thanks in Advance,
Adam

I agree that this is a huge problem. If the network directory isn't immediately found, iTunes reverts to its default. There may be other conditions under which this happens as well because it sometimes seems to occur even when the network drive should be visible. It causes huge headaches. My wife wants me to nix the network drive and just put all our music on our laptop--which is not something we should have to do in this year of 2007. They need to fix this. iTunes made my wife cry.

  • Podcast removed from the iTunes directory as a result of technical problem

I received an email from iTunes informing me that my feed:
    http://www.mevio.com/feeds/d4emixtape.xml
Had been removed from the iTunes directory because the feed had some sort of technical issue. I've checked the feed a couple of ways including using Feed Validator and all seems to be working ok.
I tried to resubmit the feed, but I get an 'It appears the feed had already been submitted' error.
There is a duplicate feed that was being used from a different server (Odeo), but I stopped using that about four years ago. I have requested that feed to be removed.
I've contacted Apple Support to get the current feed back on iTunes, but that hasn't been any help.
Any advice on what I can do to get the my podcast feed back in iTunes?

Your feed appears to be technically OK. When the iTunes removes a podcast it usually says 'technical reasons', whatever the actual reason may be. One possible reason for removal is suspected copyright violations, and it's possible (I'm not saying this actually is the case) that they are concerned that your 'mixes' contain copyright material for which you don't have either the written permission of the copyright owner or a podcast licence from a recognized authority. As I say, I just mention that as a possibility to consider.
As to resubmitting: the title of your feed is 'D4E Hip Hop Mixtape' and there is already a podcast of that name showing in the Store (though it's looking for the feed which you have removed). Even if that one gets removed, you are still likely to get the same error - there appears to be a minor bug in the Store software which claims that a podcasts has already been submitted even if either the podcast hasn't been accepted previously or if one of the same name has been removed.
To get round this you need to make a small change in the title - a single character would probably do - and resubmit. You can always change the title back once it's been accepted.
As to removing the old podcast, did you follow the procedure outlined here?

I have itunes directory on an external hard drive and want to direct a new installation of itunes on windows 8 to use it. I tried holding down ctrl and clicking itunes and after many tries got it to work one time. When I went back in later it had reverted back to a blank version of itunes and I cant get ctrl to work again. Any other ideas?

This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

  • ITunes 7 - problems with external hard drive

I installed iTunes 7 yesterday (I have Windows XP) but had lots of trouble. My iTunes directory is on my 'J' drive, so I changed the iTunes folder location in Preferences to my J:\itunes directory. Before closing iTunes I checked all my settings and they were correct. After closing iTunes, I went back in to see something, and it displayed the Setup Assistant again. Once it, I saw my folder location was back to the default C drive. I went through the process a few times and it kept reverting back to the C drive, each time giving me the Setup Assistant. I finally wound up uninstalling it and reinstalling a saved copy of iTunes 6, only, unfortunately, I lost all my settings and play counts because iTunes 6 couldn't use the files updated by iTunes 7. Anyone else have this experience and/or come up with a solution?

Thank you! The search turned up 4 libraries (two are "previous libraries). Of the non-Previous libraries, one is on the external where I expected to find it - in the iTunes folder, the other is on the c:\Users\Terry\Music.
Dates are what I expected for the approx. last access of the external library in march and newly created c:...
So I looked at the XML file for the iTunes Library and it has a hardcoded path of "F:\...." where I would have expected "G::\..." because G is where the external drive is. I'm comfortable in the Dos and Windows world, but not Vista. Maybe if I can remap the drive from G to F that might work. Problem is I'm not sure how to do that but will look and try it.
Thank you again for your help!!

  • Episodes not appearing in iTunes directory

    Hello,
I've been coming up empty handed finding a cure for my nagging issue with iTUnes directory: none of the episodes are showing up in the store listing for each of our particular feeds.
Here's a representative URL from our ten feeds we have registered in the iTUnes direcory:
    http://www.lexy.com/feed/podcast?id=467
Furthermore, I ran another test and subscribed to one of the podcasts. Within the "Podcast" window in iTunes, it will only show one episode available - despite the fact that each of our 10 feeds have multiple episodes. Does anyone have an idea as to the cause and how to cure this?
Thanks in advance for any assist.

I can't find your podcast under the title given in the feed, 'All the Chocolate'. But in any case, you have a problem with your media files. For example, the URL given for the top episode is
    http://www.lexy.com/feed/mp3/109634.mp3
and this doesn't lead to an MP3 file (indeed the file size is only 335 bytes) - click on the link above and you will see what I mean. This is true of the other two I checked, and would be sufficient to prevent the episodes appearing in the Store. If you subscribe manually from the 'Advanced' menu in iTunes it will list your episodes but give an error message that the file type cannot be played.

  • "Difficulty Downloading Episodes from your feed" for iTunes directory, of course.

I've heard a number of the other posts on here with the same problem, but haven't found any solutions that have worked for me.
The podcast does work for me from the "subscribe to an iTunes" link, but I'm getting the error message when I try to submit it to the iTunes directory?
    My feed url is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/thejerkstorepodcast
    Help? Thanks in advance.

Your feed works OK whe subscribing manually in iTunes. However there are two errors which might possibly affect the Store (which can be a bit picky).
You are missing the opening declaration which should be in the very top line of the feed:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
However FeedValidator has not flagged this as an error, so I don't know whether it matters or not.
More problematic is your 'enclosure' tag:
    <enclosure url="http://robertorios.eu/podcast/EDMystic001-RR.m4a" length="72271043" type="audio/mpeg"/>
Your 'type' attribute is incorrect and may be leading to the Store attempting to decode it as an MP3. It should read "audio/x-m4a".

  • Large Temp Files in iTunes Directory

Hi, I'm noticing large temp files appearing in my iTunes directory. These are created almost every 1-2 minutes during iTunes play and they are 40,938k in size. Currently, I'm deleting them.
Has anyone seen this and does anyone know how to fix it? This is disturbing.
    Thank you for any assistance.
    1RG

    Hi--
So what I've noticed is that ever 7 seconds or so, while iTunes is running, a new file is created in the directory and it's the same size as the E-N-T-I-R-E library. If you try to delete all the files while iTunes is running, it won't let you since it's using one or more of the files.
This isn't going to work much longer for me. I have a 40 gb hd on my Windows laptop and in the course of one day, my 96gb iTunes lib is creating enough files throughout the day to completely fill my hard drive which is only about half full.
Let's not even talk about how slow this is making the machine.
Any solutions? I don't have my iTunes directory in the defaulted location... is this contributing somehow to the problem?
    Any help appreciated.

  • ITunes Directory and Podcast Release

    Hey Everyone,
Late Night Library has been releasing podcasts through iTunes for 3 years, but two months ago our newest podcasts stopped appearing in our iTunes directory, and this past week, iTunes didn't release our latest showso subscribers at all! We loaded one of these shows 72 hours ago.
I checked to make sure the feed was still valid, and Sitcher had no problem reading the feed whatsoever. The only other piece of information that might be useful is that we switched host services. That said, we switched hosts back in February and didn't receive any problems whatsoever until our shows stopped appearing the directory in May.
    Please help, friends!

  • Can't download music - seems to be an iTunes Match problem

I have iTunes Match activated, which is working fine on my iPad and iPhone.  However I cannot download purchased music onto the iMac.
In my household there is a shared iMac and each user has a different login & password.  Only I know my login password.  I have been using iTunes successfully on it for years, and have been using iTunes successfully for about 6 months now.  Auto-download has been disabled for several months now because I don't want everything downloaded automatically.  All has been fine until about a fortnight ago when the iMac stopped downloading newly purchased music whenever I clicked the little iCloud icon.  This is for music that I have successfully purchased and downloaded on my iPhone whilst at work, and now want to listen to at home.  Whenever I click the iCloud icon to download the new song I get an error message telling me that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID, and I have to wait 54 days etc to sign in with a new Apple ID.  However I'm certain no other Apple ID has been used with my account - when I go to the Store menu it is showing my current and correct Apple ID.
The most telling proof that my Apple ID is correct on both iMac and iPhone (and iPad as well) is that when I plug the iPhone into the iMac, the new music syncs across EXACTLY as it should - and it can then be played without problems.  Both the phone and the computer are correctly logged in to the same Apple ID, which is the same Apple ID that I use for iTunes Match.  Also when I click Store -> Update iTunes Match there appears to be no Apple ID conflict.
Obviously this is an iTunes Match problem which I cannot resolve, can someone please provide assistance / advice.
(iPhone 4 with iOS 6, iMac mid 2010 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, single Apple ID for iTunes Store, iTunes Match and iCloud).

  • ITunes directory on iPod nano device not showned

But following the instructions to do it I must see the iTunes directory on thr iPod nano device. I cannot see this directory on the iPod nano disk. My operating system is Windows XP. How can I visualize the iTunes directory on the iPod nano ? The question is: how I can transfer my music library from the iPod nano 4th generation to my iTunes library ?

    Hello roby000,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You will also have to show hidden files in order to access the music directly on your iPod. By default, Windows hides hidden files and folders (thus the name). Go to Options (in the Tools menu), and on the View tab, check “Show Hidden Files and Folders”.

  • Need Help...Do I have The mother of all itunes software problems???

I am in desperate need of help. I have fried three new ipod touches in two days. I Purchased a new 32GB 2d Gen ipod touch on Mon. 11/24. Worked okay till Friday 11/28. When I tried to sync with new additions, a warning came up “the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista windows warning “USB device not recognized”
When I disconnected the touch I found that it could not be started. Tried a forced restore pressing the sleep switch and the home button together. That did not work.
Brought the touch to my apple store genius bar on Saturday and they too couldn’t get it to work. They switched out the ipod with a new one. Brought the new one home connected it and it received the new ipod touch software download okay. But when it tried to sync the same problem repeated…the two pop up warnings as before and a second dead ipod!
I then synced my ipod classic with no problems, so it appears the itunes software is okay. I’ve scheduled another appointment with the local apple store genius bar again.
When I took the new fried touch back to the Apple genius bar, it was switched out again. It was activated (by the initial step ipod touch software download on their computer.
I brought my laptop with me so we could test the syncing. The syncing proceeded initially for several minutes, and then the dreaded pop up warnings appeared
“the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista warning “USB device not recognized”
The new replacement ipod touch was also fried.
The tech gave me yet another new ipod touch. He had never encountered such a problem and advised me delete and reinstall itunes and call the APL CARE 800 support number and go over the problem with one of their techs who have a broad range of experience in dealing with possible PC related issues.
As my other ipod has no problem syncing from the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520 using Vista) I am wondering if the problem might be a corrupted Itunes software problem that affects only the touch and not the ipod classics.
Has anyone heard of a bad itunes software related problem? I googled this and could find no info. Thanks for your help!

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
    Store  >  Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

  • ITunes Encountering Problems When Importing CDs

Since I allowed an iTunes update about a month ago (?), I've been having problems importing certain (apparently random) CDs. I import a lot of books on CD, and many times "iTunes encounters a problem and has to shut down." Not always. For example, the book I'm trying to import this afternoon worked fine on the first disc, but not at all on the second. I got the shutdown message after only a few seconds. I always join the tracks before importing.
Earlier today, I was having trouble with a number of discs, but it would occur when the import was much further along. I thought I'd figured out a workaround -- instead of joining all the tracks on the CD, I joined them into two sets, each half the size of the full CD. Then imported them one at a time. Worked like a charm for about 5 discs. Then I started importing a new book, thought I'd get brave and try to import a whole CD. Worked like a charm on CD #1. Then I got to #2, and not only did it only work for a few seconds before shutting down iTunes when they were all joined together, when I tried my workaround, that didn't work either.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.1.3, with CD Driver 2.0.4.3 and CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2.

Well, thanks for all the help, folks.
After playing around with every permutation I could think of under preferences\advanced\importing, in desparation (because the problem kept getting worse - to the point that I couldn't import any joined tracks at all) I allowed a version update to 6.0.4.2.

  • Music files in my PC's iTunes directory have been moved around, now iTunes' index is not recognizing them and returns error messages. The files have previously been sync'd to my iPod, but when I tried to sync back from the iPod, iTunes on the PC error'd.

I want iTunes to reconstruct its index of my music.
We accidentally moved files around in my <<C:\Documents and Settings\Jordan\My Documents\My Music\iTunes>> directory. We tried to move them back, but anyway, the iTunes program now no longer can find/play the titles that the opened iTunes page/Library displays.
I had previously copied/syncd all my iTunes music to my iPod. I tried syncing back to the PC from the iPod.  No improovement.
At the moment, my dad is on my computer, logged in under his name (with administrative permissions). It seems that looking at my iTunes music under his login is still working OK.
I do not have my music backed up to the "cloud".
    What are my options?

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
If you have to resort to trying to pull back the library from your iPod see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
