I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro and the superdrive has stopped working, it won't take discs in as if there is one already inside but iTunes or the dvd player doesn't recognise that there is a disc inside and if there is it can't be ejected, i have tried shutting down and restartinf while holding down the trackpad, as recommended on some forums but that has done nothing
It might be a huge coincidence but the drive was working fine before i installed lion?

Installing Lion would not cause the superdrive to stop working.  Are you unsure as to whether or no a cd/dvd is inside?  Something may be broken inside and you should consider bringing it in for service.

  • How to disable the DVD player?

I'm running Ableton Live on my MacBook, and need to squeeze every last bit of performance out of my machine. According to what I've read, many Ableton users recommend 'disabling' the DVD player.
How is this done? Is it just a matter of setting the CD and DVD loading proceedure to 'Ignore' under system prefs? On a PC I can do a few different things to turn off any drives, but I'm new to Macs and not quite sure...

Probably, what the article you read meant is to turn off auto start features for CD/DVD. You can do that by opening System Preferences (by default, the right-most icon on the Dock). Look in the Hardware category for CDs& DVDs. Click to open the settings, then set the actions you don't want to happen upon disc insertion to, "Ignore."
I don't believe you'll get any measurable performance improvement when there is no disc in the drive, if you change the settings. The benefit would be that you wouldn't be annoyed by having a program pop up if you happened to put a disc in the drive while you were doing something else. You'll save some CPU cycles that would have been used to detect the disc type.

  • ITunes disabled my DVD drive

I have Windows 8 Professional 64-bit and a LiteON DVD combo drive.
I went ahead and re-install iTunes. At first I didn't notice it disabling my DVD drive until I went ahead and inserted a disc and my computer isn't recongising it. But I went to Device Manager and I discovered that there's a warning symbol on the DVD drive's icon. I went to properties and I got a Code 19 error. I went to the BIOS and my DVD drive is being recognised by computer so I'm certain that the device is still functioning just that the OS isn't recognising it.
Finally I tried uninstalling iTunes and that seems to solve the problem. But since I have a few iOS devices, I need iTunes but I can't install it without it disabling my DVD drive. Any solutions?

    Anyone?

  • ITunes vs. DVD player power

Does it use more power to play a movie that has been downloaded onto iTunes or to play it through the built-in DVD player? I'm going on a trip, and the planes I'll be on don't have power outlets and I want to conserve as much energy as possible.

Playing a downloaded movie will use much less power than playing a DVD. The superdrive would be yet another thing the computer has to power when you're playing a DVD, but if you were watching a downloaded movie, it would only be using the hard drive. Maybe turn your screen brightness down as well so the backlight won't use quite as much power.

  • After downloading iTunes, my CD/DVD player on my laptop no longer works.

I downloaded the iTunes update when I got a new iPad.  I now do not have any way to open my CD/DVD drive except with a paperclip.  I cannot use the drive at all.  It does not function any longer.

  • ITunes disabling CD/DVD Drive

I've tried installing iTunes 7.5 on my laptop and it seems to install fine. Once I restart my computer, however, the CD/DVD has an error. Windows thinks its a driver problem but when I run the diagnostic it says all drivers are up to date.

I have found NOTHING on the web that answers this problem. Toshiba knows about the problem because they have a post on their support site that deals with a "missing DVD drive." Unfortunately, the two solutions they provide do not fix the problem if you want to run i-tunes. You can re-install the driver, and if that doesn't work, you can edit the registry by deleting the upper and lower filters (See toshiba support's link to Microsoft). But then you will have to repair itunes as listed above (which then re-installs the filters in the registry), and the DVD drive is missing or has problems once again. Every time I need the drive, I go through the above process. Then I repair itunes and live without a DVD drive until the next time I need it. Is this mainly a Toshiba Satellite problem?

  • Itunes disables CD/DVD Drives

Have loaded itunes from the disc and also from the apple website. I am unable to open itunes and every time loaded it diables both my CDR and DVD Drives.

AW ANOTHER PB user. I feel bad for you guys. All Packard Bell PC users are having this issue which leads to me to believe this is a Packard Bell problem.
Dont worry, its an easy fix.
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK
Save this list because you do use a Packard Bell and it could happen again. Good Luck. If this does not work, I have another tried and tru method of fixing it.

  • ITunes 10.1 installed but it disabled the driver for my DVD player

I installed iTunes 10.5.1.42 on my laptop HP PC  and it disabled the driver for my DVDRW player.  Before iTunes installation DVD player worked fine.  After installation DVD player does not work, and is not see by iTunes or the computer.  Device manager shows the player but indicates that the driver has been disabled.
I uninstalled iTunes and the DVD player worked.  It also worked with iTunes 10.5.0. But then I reinstalled 10.5.1.42 with the same results--disabled DVD.
Anyone with similar problem or with suggestions???

some dvd players are very picky on what they will play some only
    play dvd+r some only dvd-r some can't play dvd+rw and or dvd-rw
dvd burnable is a pretty fragmented std.

  • Using iTunes to create an MP3 CD that can be used on a DVD player

I recently attempted to create what I believed to be an MP3 CD from iTunes that my DVD player would be able to play. My DVD player was unable to read the CD (No Disc message). Come to find out that it creates the CD in a Mac format instead of an ISO 9660 format. Has anyone been able to create an MP3 CD from iTunes that a DVD player will load? If so what settings did you use?

The problem is solved. My new Sony DVD Player seems to handle whatever format my MP3 CD is created in even though the manual says nothing about a mac formatted CD. So I can now use iTunes or Toast to create MP3 CDs. My old JVC CD player is about 5 years old and even though the manual says it will read MP3 CDs and VCD CDs it never worked well on anything I created on a Mac

dose any body have this problem too ?!
how can i check which appliaction or which singlas is sent to itune or dvd player ?
    thanks you guys

    Hi Russel
After endless hours of trying to work around the same problem you have, I found the solution. The problem has to do with the script. For some strange reason the scripts become corrupted. I found out that the problem was corrected when I made a new script and connected the buttons to the new script. Hope they at apple find time to correct this problem in the future.
    Best. Ingvar

  • Itunes has disabled my dvd drive

I upgraded to itunes 9 and now my dvd player will not work and my computer does not recognize it. I had it serviced and fixed last week and it was working and the guy stated it was a problem in i tunes. When it was fixed it worked until I connected my ipod to charge it. I have uninstalled itunes and it still doesn't work. I am at a loss of what to do. I have tried working on the registry and that didn't work. Any other ideas?

This is commonly attributed to a problem with the GEAR drivers that iTunes installs. Historically, people suggested that you try reinstalling gear drivers, and when that didn't work, modify registry entries to disable GEAR (in which case burning discs is disabled and you may get a nagging message to that effect every time you start iTunes). Looks like they've since found a solution, but I haven't tested it:

  • How do I burn a DVD R disc with Windows Movie Maker?  It indicates disc error on my DVD player.  Someone thought it had something to do with Itunes?  I reloaded Itunes 1 month ago and had no problem creating this disc then.  Help

I have made several DVD+R discs in the past using Windows Live Movie Maker sucessfully.  I made one about one month ago for my son's b-day.  I am using the same discs as I had then.  When I tried to burn the disc, it indicates that it is burning, however, when I insert it into the DVD player at home on our TV (like I"ve always done), it indicates disc error.  Someone mentioned that the burner goes out every now and then when Itunes is uploaded?  When I burn the disc, I can pull it up on my home and work computers, so I know that it is there.

Yes, you can distribute a burned disk of the project to those who can create duplicate disks.  Or create a disk image of the iDVD project using the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.
Then you can distribute the disk image to those who will burn the disks.  For PCs you'll have to convert the .dmg file to a .iso file so they can burn it.  This website describer how: Mac Help - Convert and Burn Mac .dmg or .img to .iso Windows PC-Compatible Disk Image
Suggest to them to burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
It would be prudent to rest your optical drive for about 30 minutes after burning 3 disks in a row. That will give the laser time to cool down before you start another batch.

You can't boot OS X with a Windows boot device.
Internet Recovery is the next step. Follow ssls6's advice.

from the Apple Support Communities -Terms of Use:
