ITunes disabling CD/DVD Drive

I've tried installing iTunes 7.5 on my laptop and it seems to install fine. Once I restart my computer, however, the CD/DVD has an error. Windows thinks its a driver problem but when I run the diagnostic it says all drivers are up to date.

I have found NOTHING on the web that answers this problem. Toshiba knows about the problem because they have a post on their support site that deals with a "missing DVD drive." Unfortunately, the two solutions they provide do not fix the problem if you want to run i-tunes. You can re-install the driver, and if that doesn't work, you can edit the registry by deleting the upper and lower filters (See toshiba support's link to Microsoft). But then you will have to repair itunes as listed above (which then re-installs the filters in the registry), and the DVD drive is missing or has problems once again. Every time I need the drive, I go through the above process. Then I repair itunes and live without a DVD drive until the next time I need it. Is this mainly a Toshiba Satellite problem?

  • ITunes disabled my DVD drive

I have Windows 8 Professional 64-bit and a LiteON DVD combo drive.
I went ahead and re-install iTunes. At first I didn't notice it disabling my DVD drive until I went ahead and inserted a disc and my computer isn't recongising it. But I went to Device Manager and I discovered that there's a warning symbol on the DVD drive's icon. I went to properties and I got a Code 19 error. I went to the BIOS and my DVD drive is being recognised by computer so I'm certain that the device is still functioning just that the OS isn't recognising it.
Finally I tried uninstalling iTunes and that seems to solve the problem. But since I have a few iOS devices, I need iTunes but I can't install it without it disabling my DVD drive. Any solutions?

    Anyone?

  • Itunes disables CD/DVD Drives

Have loaded itunes from the disc and also from the apple website. I am unable to open itunes and every time loaded it diables both my CDR and DVD Drives.

AW ANOTHER PB user. I feel bad for you guys. All Packard Bell PC users are having this issue which leads to me to believe this is a Packard Bell problem.
Dont worry, its an easy fix.
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK
Save this list because you do use a Packard Bell and it could happen again. Good Luck. If this does not work, I have another tried and tru method of fixing it.

  • Help! iTunes makes my DVD drive disappear

I installed iTunes version 7.6 and my DVD drive disappeared when I re-
booted my pc. At first I was able to restore to an earlier point and
my DVD drive re-appeared. When I tried to re-install iTunes, again the
DVD drive disappeared and I was unable to restore at all. The only way
I was able to restore my DVD drive was to restore my pc back to
factory settings. I have since tried an earlier version of iTunes (Version 7) with
exactly the same results as version 7.6. I have a 80GB iPod classic and I'm using XP. Can anyone help me install iTunes without losing hardware?

I have exactly the same problem. there are loads of others the same and some have advised to get a really old version of itunes and others have had to down load new drivers. I as of yet have been unable to resolve the issue yet I know others with Vista who can run new itunes with no problems. How frustrating!!! try looking through the archives on this support page for plenty of ideas on how to resolve it.

ITunes disables my CD drives when I installed. How can I correct this problem?

1.Open about:config in Firefox (simply type about:config into the address bar and hit enter, if you doing it for the first time, you may have to promise you are going to be careful)
    2. Search for keyword.url from the filter box at the top.
3.Double click on this entry. It will open a dialog where you can edit the ‘keyword.url’ string
    4. delete anything in there (if there is anything) and copy in the following:

  • Other versions of itunes that do not disable CD/DVD drive on VISTA PC?

Anyone know if there is a previous itunes version on the Apple site that does not have the CD-disable problem when you install? I'd like to try it. Thanks!

The daemon tools are not a fix-all for this problem. I tried installing them, and all seemed to work fine until re-boot... then no more CD/DVD drive (again).

  • Loading iTunes on new PC with Vista disables CD-DVD drive; driver issues?

There is something in the iTunes software that causes my CD-DVD drive to stop working and cannot be recognized as a device by Windows. I suspect that iTunes is replacing the CD/DVD driver with one of their own which is nt compatible with the hardware or with Vista.
Any ideas on a fix? I would REALLY like to have my tunes!

this can be a symptom of a device filter conflict in
your registry. try running through the suggestions
    from the following document:

I had these same issues--my CD/DVD drive won't work after I installed Itunes on Windows Vista. I followed these directions to the letter. None of them worked. I'm glad I backed up my registry. Any more suggestions?

  • Installing itunes removed my DVD drive??

I downloaded iTunes just to try it out, and uninstalled it later. After removing it I realized that my DVD drive was gone too. Seems like itunes removed the drivers while uninstalling itself, but I'm not exactly sure when the drive was uninstalled. The drive is still visible from my hardware manager, but with a question mark next to it, indicating missing drivers. I have tried disabling the drive, rebooting and reabling it, and reinstalling upon reboot, but the drive is still missing. I can still find the drive from BIOS, so there is nothing wrong with the drive itself, but Windows can't use it. I have also tried downloading drivers from the internet, but none of them work. What do i do? Is there any way i can fix this without reinstalling windows? The DVD drive is a generic hitachi laptop drive.

Yes, the error code is 31.
okay, if you're getting a code 31 on a Windows 2000 PC, we'd better check on this possibility:

  • ITunes and CD/DVD Drive Control

Hi..I can't use my CD/DVD drive for any reason UNLESS iTunes is running at least in the background. It's like iTunes has taken over complete control of my drive. I would like to be able to use the drive for other things (photos, etc.) without having to first run iTunes. Anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks,
    Alan

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite P30-110. I have tried assigning specific controls to the CD/DVD buttons of my laptop to Winamp but everytime I do it reverts to a default hotkey identifying code.
For example if I want the Play/Pause button to act as a hotkey for the Play button in Winamp and I enter it into the Hotkey setting it comes up as: 0x1770001 but when I click add it reverts to: 0x1000000
Can you tell me why this is or how to stop this from happening.
    Thanks!

  • Upgraded itunes now my dvd drive has stopped working

I recently updated itunes and now my dvd driver has stopped working. My computer won't even recognize my dvd drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and uninstalled itunes several times. I've tried system restore. I've even looked for an older version of itunes and no luck. I took it into Fry's electronics and they fixed it but when I hooked up my ipod it stopped working again. I don't know what to do. This is really frustrating and I am just tired of itunes messing with stuff and constatly crating new versions. I've read other threads and have tried some of the suggestions with the registration which didn't work.
    Can you please help me.

  • Installation disabled CD / DVD drives.

Hired MS Assure to fix my email which would not load.  Tech recommended upgrading to 2013 which I did.  email works fine but I now have NO access to my CD / DVD drives.  I have one built in and one external (usb).  USB drive operates
    fine on my laptop.
I have deleted and restored drivers with no result.  Error message in device MGR says:  "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device.  A recent hardware or software change.....etc.  Code 52
A portable floppy drive still works as do usb flashdrives.

because maybe installation software change the registry setting, I would suggest you first do clean boot

try also reset your BIOS setting
after that try to delete upper lower filter
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
if doesn't work try to uninstall ODD at device manager and let windows detect your ODD automatically
you can also temporary solved this case by disabling driver signature at advance boot option

  • Itunes has disabled my dvd drive

I upgraded to itunes 9 and now my dvd player will not work and my computer does not recognize it. I had it serviced and fixed last week and it was working and the guy stated it was a problem in i tunes. When it was fixed it worked until I connected my ipod to charge it. I have uninstalled itunes and it still doesn't work. I am at a loss of what to do. I have tried working on the registry and that didn't work. Any other ideas?

This is commonly attributed to a problem with the GEAR drivers that iTunes installs. Historically, people suggested that you try reinstalling gear drivers, and when that didn't work, modify registry entries to disable GEAR (in which case burning discs is disabled and you may get a nagging message to that effect every time you start iTunes). Looks like they've since found a solution, but I haven't tested it:

  • Reinstalling itunes removes my dvd drive

I cannot burn playlists to disc from itunes.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.  The error message i get is "disc burner or software not found."  I try to update the driver for the drive then it disappears from "devices" altogether.  I did successfully get the DVD to write to a disc with my Quicken software at one point but it was still not recognized by itunes.  I have followed article TS2372 to disable device filters, with an end result of "driver failed to update" and the device (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N) then disappeared again from devices altogether.  I tried "windows fix it center" but ended up with this result "beta test for windows 7 users is complete"  it would not help me.  Tried contacting LG for driver update but they said that Windows should update driver and the drive was no longer supported by the manufacturer.  Windows update will not find driver.  I welcome any new suggestions as i haven't been able to burn a disc from itunes in months.
    Steve

This is sounding a bit like an AFS.sys issue.
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.
