ITunes displaying asian languages one day, boxes the next

My music is almost entirely made up of Japanese and Korean music. A lot of the song titles/band titles are in kanji and hangul, which iTunes used to not have a problem with. It just recently started displaying boxes instead of the characters and in my frustration I uninstalled iTunes. I reinstalled it two days ago and the characters were showing up fine! I was overjoyed, until I open iTunes today to find boxes again. Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?

ITunes search: Albums available one day, not the next?

Hey guys,
How come some days you can find a whole heap of albums, and then the next day you search the same artist, and nothing comes up! I've had this happen to me with a number of different artists on occassions. And it's not just the albums you can't see, the whole artists disappear! For example, last night I found a bunch of albums by Alain Caron, went out and bought a itunes card today, came home to download one, and couldn't find any! What's the go?

Welcome to the Apple Dicsussion Pages.
The Alcatel Speedtouch 585 proabably has version 5 firmware on there. I see form your post you know what the problem is.
This can be the problem.
Earlier modes in the 500 series had Firmware versions 3 and 4 which meant you could telnet into them form the Terminal Application and Unbind SIP from port 5060.
This is what is causing the problem.
The symptoms are a starnge pattern of succss and failure.
A small group you can contact all the time
An equally small group of now and then success
And a large group of Buddies that you can never get AV chats with.
ibosie who posts here says he has been in caontact with Alcatel and that they are working on a Firmware update to get round this.
At this stage another modem would be the way to go. (the 510 and the 580 can be Unbound)

Can't get iTunes to move from one song to the next

I'm using iTunes 7.3.1 on an iMac with OS X 10.4.10. Everything was working fine, but now I can't get the playlists to move automatically from one song to the next. All the songs play if I double click on them individually, but when a song is finished playing, iTunes does not move automatically to the next song. I have to then double click on the next song I want to play. Furthermore, neither the "next," nor the "previous" track functions work. I have tried fiddling with the control settings (Repeat Off, Repeat All, Repeat One), but nothing I have tried makes a difference. Bottom line: If I want to sit at my computer and hear a playlist on iTunes, I have to manually click on each song I want to hear. Not too convenient when I want to listen while walking on my treadmill! Anyone suggestions would be appreciated.

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - Command-click on any checkbox will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.

Connection one day, not the next

My problem is that my wireless computers (2) were getting a signal from the airport extreme station 2 days ago. Now there are no bars appearing in my iBook or my sons eMac. I also have a computer (which I'm posing this question on) which is not on the airport system. From the DSL box the wire goes into the airport and then into my computer that doesn't have the airport capabilities. I know I have internet access because I can get around with no problem.
I've tried the reset button and unplugging the base station. Still no bars.
Can an airport extreme base station just stop working?
I have a solid light in the center of the station and an occasional blink of light from the right side . How do I get my wireless computers to recognize my airport extreme?

There is another network listed which says "Linksys".
I don't remember seeing that before. It's been so long.
I wonder if I've been hooked up correctly all this time with my bars being so low. I'm basically a novice at these things, so I probably couldn't tell the difference.
One thing I did notice was that when I pushed the reset button my middle light did not flash like the instructions said it would.
I'm presently downloading any and all updates that have been neglected on the iBook (wife uses it mostly). It is taking forever. It's moving at a few kilobytes at a time which makes me wonder if I'm actually getting my DSL feed.
Any other suggestions?

After updating to the latest version, I'm able to open and use the browser for one day. The next day, the browser doesn't not open up. please help!!!

Not a problem, Safe Mode will disable addons and hardware acceleration. If this continues and it is not an add on this will be the next step to try to disable acceleration:
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.

My documents and pictures have been erased from one day to the next

I've closed my macbook pro last thursday without shutting down, the next day when opening again all my documents and pictures have been erased from my files. I cannot find them anywhere, and they are also not in the recycle bin. Has anybody else had this problem recently and does anybody know how I can recover my files? All my pictures from my little son birth from last year until now are gone!

I pre-ordered Paramore's new album one day and the next day I received a $15 gift card for itunes and I redeemed it. My question is now that I have redeemed it will itunes take the price of the preordered album from my $15 or from my debit card?

If not how can I make that happen? The Paramore pre-order is $9.99 and I want itunes to take the money from the gift card and not my bank account. The charge won't happen until the 9th, when it is released.

I'm kind of running into the same problem with a TV season I bought. I have watched the first 4 episodes just fine but now a new episode is available and it wants me to pay for it. Even though I have already paid for it when I bought the complete season.
I think they are mucking around in the servers and causing this issue. I have reported the problem through iTunes and I hope they get it fixed soon.
EDIT: I just want to add that I didn't know AC/DC's new album was out, I'll have to go buy it. Thanks for the heads up on that.

My 4 gb ipod Nano is full yet there are only 20 songs on it. In summary, it just says "other" is taking up the space. Was fine one day and the next I got this. Help?

Have had problems since downloading iTunes 10. First it moved all my iTunes music files to another location. Next, I lost all my songs on my iPod. I went to replace the music to the iPod that I'd lost, but it only allows me to add about 20 songs (on a 4gb Nano) then says disk is full. In the Summary on the iPod, "other" is taking up all the remaining space. I have no videos, pictures, or anything else on the iPod. How do I free up that "used" space? Please help? And Thanks!

HT1338 The Bluetooth on my macbook wont turn on. Not even giving me the option to turn on/off any more. all it shows is "Bluetooth : Unavailable" form one day to the next. AHHHHHH!

So blue tooth was working just fine with my wireless keyboard and now not so much. I see the Bluetooth icon on top and its not allowing me to see anything about the setup like it did before. now it's just telling me that it's "Not Available"....... looked for Bluetooth options on preference window and all it found me was the sharing folder where there was nothing about bluetooth.

Shut your Mac down - not reboot, do a shut down - then boot it up and see whether the problem has cleared. As it happens, I had exactly the same thing a couple of days ago: a reboot didn't cure it but a shut down did.

How can uncompleted events carryover from one day to the next?

Let's say I had to call Mr. Smith on Monday, but never got to call him. How can I have this uncompleted reminder carry over to Tuesday automatically?? And every day from there on until I do call him and delete the event. Is this possible??

It will automatically remain in your task list & show a exclamation point since it isn't done. However, if you have the hide to dos with due dates outside the calendar view enabled in preferences, you won't see the older tasks if they aren't in the calendar view.
I've posted an enhancement request to Apple & suggest you do the same so that older tasks still show outside the calendar view with that option enabled.

Final Cut (5.1) fine one day, slow the next

G'day,
Am running FCP 5.1 on a dual 1.8GHz G5 PowerMac, Mac OS 10.5.8.
Yesterday (and day before, etc) it could play sequences in the project I'm currently working on fine... (AIC 1920x1080 - sequence is only about 2 minutes long)
Then today, it's jumpy when playing in the Viewer or Canvas windows...
Just tried restarting... No help... Tried only having FCP open (have previously had Mail and Firefox running in the background) Still jumpy.
Is this just a FCP bug or is there something I can do to sort it out??

Some general thoughts about slow Mac
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
• Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk (4-5 times more if HD-material used)
• No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
• Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
• Move other/external hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
• Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
• Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
(Important during en-codeing processes etc - as to me it goes slightly faster)
• No File Vault on - Important
• NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/FinalCut/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
• Lot's of icons on DeskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
• Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie/FinalCut get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
• And let Mac run on Mains (if Laptop) - not just on battery

Airport Extreme: Alive One Day, Dead the Next

Last night my Airport Extreme Base Station stopped sending out an internet signal. I can see it with my laptop, but there is no internet signal coming through. When I take the ethernet cable out of the Airport and plug it directly to my laptop, the internet works.
I sat on the phone with Time Warner tech support for almost an hour going through their recommendations. I have also reset the Base Station. The signal is strong and everything appears to be working except for the signal. I can't think of anything else.
Any ideas as to why the Base Station would suddenly stop working?

Sometimes it may require you to reset your entire system.
Pull the Power adapter from both your ISP's Modem
and your Router, turn off your computer, making sure you have Airport selected in the System Prferences and Network settings, and on the top of the list and you have the little green dot.
Plug in the ISP's Modem and wait one minute.
Plug in your Router and again wait one minute.
Now start your computer.
You should be connected now.

I am finding that when I click on a PDF it may open one day, but the next day it doesn't or vice versa

I am finding that opening pdf links tends to be spotty. Sometimes a link opens, but other times it doesn't. I know there's a lot of variables at play but was hoping someone might be able to provide some insight on how to resolve this, or at the very least improve performance so that the links open more reliably. Thanks!

Can you please check the saved preferences you have for handling pdf files:
links that are hosted online will open in the default pdf view.
Downloading and opening also is a set preference in this menu:
"3 bar" > Options/Preferences > Applications.
