Itunes displays content on nano 6, ipod disagrees

An 16gb ipod nano 6th generation.  Windows Vista at home, 7 at work, itunes up to date as of time of posting.
So, like many people I have a computer at home, and also one at work. I have previously happily added music to my ipod on both as I download and-or purchase it. I purchase only on my home computer, as I have a feeling doing otherwise will cause my purchases to be irrevocably split over two computers, but I am a massive consumer of beat-tapes, mixtapes, freebies and other such goodies from soundcloud, bandcamp and various other content distribution services, and the rotation is fairly constant both at home and work.
Recently, most times I add music to my ipod (i'm on 'manually manage my music' for obvious reasons) it's all on there and looking fiiine, but when I eject the ipod, it says 'no music'.
When I plug it back in to itunes, one of two things happen. Itunes will either
happily displays all my music, and can even play, rename,do whatever to it, but when I eject again it still says 'no music',
or say 'itunes cannot read the contents of etc etc, please restore'.
Either way, I end up with an empty ipod.  I can only seem to load it once, in one go, rather than being able to add and remove bits.
Is my ipod starting to grow old and doddery, or is this a consequence of attempting to manage my music from more than one computer?  Why's it only just started to happen in the last week?

I have the same problem and I havent found a good suppor in Itunes. What is the 3er party software?

  • How do I sync iCloud/iTunes Match content with my new iPod nano?

I have a MacBook Air with the associated small flash drive. For that reason, all of my music is in the cloud and some of it is via iTunes Match. I bought a new iPod Nano and I want to sync most or all of my music with that device for use when I travel and do not have WiFi available. When I did my initial sync it says I have 38 songs. Obviously those are only the ones on the local drive = recent purchases. How can I sync all of my music with this iPod whithout having to download all of my music to my MacBook first - an impossibility due the limited drive space? Or am I just out of luck and need to return the iPod to the store. Thanks!

Ipod is not compatible to iCloud. The only way to load the music is through iTunes.

  • Transfering NON-iTunes-Store Content from Nano 5th TO iTunes 9.2

    Help! Thank you!

If you're referring to the first part, covering "Transfer Purchases from iPod", that only applies to items purchased from the iTunes Store. It will not work with music you imported from CD or obtained elsewhere and put on your iPod.

  • Itunes displays a lock on my IPOD

I have two IPODs that I just reset back to default settings. They both have the same name but when I connect either one of them to the MAC, ITunes tells me there is not enough space to transfer the songs I want to the IPOD. I looked at the Used to free bar on the bottom and noticed a lock icon. I verfied the lock was not set to the lock position on both IPOD's but yet ITunes is telling me it is locked. I might understand this on maybe one IPod but both. How do I get rid of the locked icon from within ITunes and be able to start transfering songs again?

The 'locked' symbol appears when you have set your iPod to automatically update the library or playlists. This might have happened when resetting your iPods.
Set it to 'Manually manage songs and playlists' in Preferences>iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes displays -48 error message when syncing iPod Nano on Windows XP

My girlfriend's mom's iPod Nano ran out of charge while jogging so she decided to charge it on her daughter's iHome. The next day she went to use her iPod but it was totally empty of all music and files. When she tried to sync it to iTunes, she received an eror message stating, "An unknown error has occurred (-48)" from iTunes and a Windows message stating that some iPod folder/file was corrupted.
If anyone receives such a message, I was able to correct it by:
-Plugging in your iPod to your PC
    -Ignore the error messages
    -Go to My Computer
-Find your iPod's drive letter (ie. G:)
-Right-click on it and select Properties
-Go to Tools Tab >Error-checking and select Check Now
You should be able to sync your iPod as before. I do not claim to be an expert so be warned that it may not work for you. Good luck!

  • Transfer content from Old iPod nano to iPod touch

    I have bought a new iPod touch G3 32gb 3.1.3.
However, realizing my computer has been formatted a couple of months ago, iTunes won't keep anything in my iPod Nano G3 4gb when it's not plugged in.
All the songs and videos and stuff are the only files I have in my iPod nano.
Is there any way that I can transfer my Ipod Nano content (including songs playlists videos and pictures) to my new iPod touch?
    Many thanks in advance! #adore#

Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
    iTunes & iPod software
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. Once everything is back in iTunes you can add it to your iPod Touch.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • I have an Ipod Touch 4g. My computer broke. I have a new computer now. My problem is that my new computer  itunes library does not recognise the content already on my ipod. Help please

I have an Ipod Touch 4G.   My computer broke.  I now have a new computer .  I have NO access to old computer.  The itunes on my new computer recognises by Ipod but not the music content already on my ipod.  This means it does not  show the content in the library on itunes any more.  The content on my ipod is not purchased from itunes store.  Can i get it to show up in the `new` library?    Is this also preventing me from downloading new items into my ipod - as i can download new discs into the library, but they will not load into the ipod.   Your help would be appreciated - cant bear another sleepless night.  Thank you

I dont know how helpful this will be but here we go:
    try syncing your ipod again
do you still have these cds? try reburning them to you library
    restart itunes
    restart the computer
    hardware reset ipod touch
    Heres how to do this
Hold down power and home button at the same time until the screen goes black, ignore the slide to power off arrow
Idevice will now restart on its own, this might take longer then when waking it from shut down
    6. now try step 1 again
note: try any of these ideas they are not a set order of instructions

  • Help! iPod Touch deleted songs after connecting to iTunes but songs still show up in iTunes display

I connected my iPod Touch 64GB (iOS 5.1.1.) to iTunes (12.0.5.00) on my MacBook Pro (10.10.2) in order to add a couple of podcasts.  Unfortunately, now only the podcasts show up on my iPod display -- they're the only audio media on the device. My 6500 songs, all my playlists are gone from the iPod (and iPod display) as well. However, on the iTunes display on my computer, when my iPod is connected, all my songs and playlists are there.
Hoping I can get some help figuring out what went wrong and how to get the songs back on my iPod so I don't have to manually add them all from a backup external hard drive (I don't keep them all in iTunes nor all the backup files on my computer's hard drive to save space).
You can see in the photo below on the left side of the display, 'On My Device', all my playlists remain. On the main display, all my music is there -- it's just not on the actual iPod itself. You can also see at the bottom of the screen, the iPod capacity bar, which shows that 56.80 GB is free, suggesting the songs are in fact, deleted from the iPod.
Can anyone assist? Any thoughts as to why the songs & playlists still show up in iTunes if they are in reality deleted from the iPod?
Thank you for any info or assistance, it's very much appreciated.
    Derek

And I've now tried connecting the iPod to an older Macbook running iTunes 12.0.0.140 and I'm getting the same thing -- the songs and media shows up under 'Devices' on the left, but they are not actually there. Trying to double click on them brings up the symbol. Wondering how the 'ghost' effect of them showing up in iTunes can happen if they are no longer on the iPod itself.
Thanks again for any thoughts, suggestions, or assistance.

  • We have itunes music on a computer, an ipod nano, and a new ipod touch under two different accounts. How can we combine the music from both accounts to one device?

We have itunes music on a computer, an ipod nano, and a new ipod touch under two different accounts. How can we combine the music from both accounts to one device?

There is no "adding" a device.  Simply plug the iDevice into the computer.  iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit.
