ITunes DJ should allow more specific choices of music, not just from music

iTunes DJ is a great tool. I love how easy it is to use. However, I don't like that you can only specify it to play from all music or from certain playlists. iTunes DJ should be capable of allowing the user to select one or more genres of music to choose from instead of all the music. Not all music that iTunes users have in their own libraries will go good together. For example, you wouldn't want to be listening to Death Cab for Cutie at a party with friends, and then hear Christian gospel music come up. Yes, having the ability to specify specific playlists to choose from does solve this issue a little bit, but not all playlists will include all possible songs that could be played at a party, and not all iTunes users want to take the time to make a playlist of one hundred songs or more for a party. Playlists also have a limited amount of songs in them. What if an iTunes user wanted to play the entire genre in iTunes DJ but not another genre. That user would be required to create a playlist including all the songs of that genre. Genius playlists don't solve that issue because they select songs from many genres that might go good together based on some themes, but do not include specific genres or include all the songs from the specific genres in question. Please, in the coming iTunes updates, could Apple please change the way iTunes DJ works to allow users more control over what is to be played. If any forum readers agree with me, please comment. The more people Apple sees think this way, the more likely they are to make the change. Thanks everyone for reading, and thanks to Apple for your great products and services. Keep up the good work.

iTunes -> File menu -> New Smart Playlist
Genre -> is/contains/etc -> the genre you want
If you want more than one genre in the playlist, just click the "+" button, repeat for the additional genre, and set the playlist to "Match any of the following rules". You can add additional criteria to tailor the playlist as you see fit.
You can then use that playlist to feed iTunes DJ.

I had the same issue this morning downloading a pre-order of Alanis, Flavors of Entanglement . I noticed that the only thing that had changed fro me was that I had some song credits for purchasing ticketmaster tickets over the past few weeks. When I went ahead and spent my remaining credits... it downloaded with no prompting or trouble. Maybe the credits issues hangs it up?

  • Shared iTunes Library Only Allows One User to Add Music

On an iMac I have two Admin accounts, the original one and a recently added one. Rather than take up hard drive space with two iTunes libraries with the same songs I followed the instructions to let the users share the same iTunes folder.
Problem is, the new account is not allowed to add music to the folder through their iTunes. When I tried to import a CD it tells me that the permissions say they only have "Read" Access and to get info on the folder and change the access settings.
I did that, both users now have "Read and Write" access. But this did not fix my problem. I still cannot import any music into the folder. I tried restarting iTunes with no results then restarted the whole computer, still nothing.
What do I need to do to allow both users to import music into the same shared iTunes folder?

  • HT4009 When I try and make an in app purchase it says it cannot be done and I need to visit apple support on iTunes but nothing any more specific. Please help!

    Please help anyone

I believe that it's actually telling you that you need to contact Apple support, and if so you will need to do what it says, contact iTunes Support. Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
    to contact the iTunes Store.

  • When will iTunes 11 actually be compatible with Windows 8. Not just as print on a specification requirements list. When will iTunes 11 be functionally compatible?

I just got off the phone with a Senior Rep at Apple who clearly and concisely stated.
Apple iTunes 11 Does Not Support Windows 8.
He stated that there is currently nothing in the works to support Windows 8.
I installed and read the specifications requirements list which states that Windows 8 is supported.
I have Windows 8 Professional and have not been able to sync or back up my iPhone since installing Windows 8.
When will Apple actually address this?

This is a user support forum. We don't know what Apple will do when. iTunes 10.7 didn't cliam to support Windows 8. iTunes 11 does. If there are still outstanding issues with compatability for some people then these have to be found and workarounds put in place. I don't have Windows 8, but I gather for some people updating drivers (I don't know which) has fixed their problems.

  • When should I start a new catalogue and not just a new folder

    Hi,
I have my files organised into folders all within one catalogue.  Is this good organisation or should I use more catalogues.
    Thanks
    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,
Using a single catalog is nearly always the best choice, especially for LR users just starting out.  There are only a few reasons to have more than one catalog, for example to separate personal photographs from client photographs.  Otherwise, stick with one and you will have fewer issues.

  • I want Airpot Express to get sound from Internet too, not just from iTunes

I just connected Airport Express to INSIGNIA amplifier speakers with subwoofer and now I can play my iTunes music through those speakers while I take my MacBook Pro to various rooms in the house. However, when I connect to Iternet websites (like YouTube) the sound comes from the laptop small speakers and the INSIGNIA seem to be dead.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Mail: Clicking a message in Inbox should open it in a separate window (not just  in lower pane). This stopped working after an automatic update of OS(10.6.8). Suggestions?

Before updating software (10.6.8), in Mail, clicking a message in the inbox caused the message to appear in its own separate window-- not just in the pane below the inbox. I'm not sure why this function is no longer available. I guess I could delete Preferences (where?) and see if that does it. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nick

Uh…no it didn't. Double-clicking a message would open it in a new window. Regardless of whether you have the message pane visible, you still have to double-click the message if you want it to open in it's own message window.
I guess I could delete Preferences (where?) and see if that does it.
No, you can't do that; not unless you want to say bye-bye to all your email. Don't even think about messing around with things unless you know what you're doing, and the consequences.

  • Considering Itunes U and need more info

Our school is trying to find a good solution to our issue of sharing audio files for class use. The itunes feature that allows you to share your music on the network is essentially what we need but since our campus is broken up into different networks, that won't work because students can't see what faculty share. My question is if Itunes U allows for all files to be downloaded or can some be able to be played but not copied down to the persons machine? This would allow students in a class to listen to audio for reference for a class without grabbing a copy of it for their own personal use.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give on this.

    Bkitty,
First, love the name. Fun choice!
Nextly, here is what I tell people who are considering iTunes U ... when you go with iTunes U, you're basically buying the synergy that exists between the iTunes Store and the iPod and using it for your own educational aims. While iTunes U can stream content ... sort of ... that isn't really what it's designed to do.
In my experience, iTunes U is really being driven by students. They are telling us how they want to learn ... they want to use the iPod (and iTunes generally) as an educational tool/opportunity. The reality is that they are going to do this with or without us. For example, when I got involved in iTunes U, I found out that students in our College of Medicine unapologetically recorded lectures and distributed them ... and there was no attempt to get faculty permission to do so (they were running a kind of "black market" of recorded lectures ... trading "this" for "that" lecture ... if someone could attend a lecture, he/she would trade a recording of it for one that had to be missed). And that system was starting to move into other departments. So the nifty thing about iTunes U is that it gave us the opportunity to give the customers (that is, the students) what they want -- the ability to review lectures/content offline in the same way that they sample the latest music.
It is just the opposite with faculty members. They often want the (supposed) control that streaming offers. I say "supposed" because any determined student can grab streamed content and redistribute it. I do understand that faculty members have valid concerns ... their primary concern is that they want to use materials in a "fair use" way -- and they want to know that they themselves are not willfully distributing it. There are often other pedagogical reason certain faculty members resist iTunes U.
However, whenever I discuss iTunes U with any faculty member, I always point out the argument that makes the iTunes Store the biggest seller of music in the USofA ... virtual or real ... that is, students generally want to get content from an authoritative source .. and if a faculty member uses iTunes U, he or she will have the greatest control over its quality and content. The iTunes Store is the biggest seller of music in the USofA because it provides a great end-user experience ... it is just simpler to pony up 99 cents and buy something from Apple than to go through the hassle of using a P2P client (and hunt for the best quality recording). Similarly, when students can get content from iTunes U, they stop trying to do things their way and are extremely happy to download what faculty members are willing to produce. The quality of lectures/recordings/podcasts is, therefore, left entirely in faculty hands.

  • Any SYNC APPs that allow for specific file synchronization for the MacBook Pro??? Please advise..

Any recommendations for a sync app that allows for specific file synchronization rather than just a complete back-up program?  I want to be able to synchronize certain files only on multiple external hard-drives?
    FYI:[[Using a 15" MacBook Pro on Mac OSX Version 10.6.7, Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4GB RAM 1067MHz DDR3]]

I'm pretty sure you should keep Boot Camp 2.1, Scorpio.
I'm not sure about the driver only or complete reinstall question though.
Probably the best place for an answer to this would be over in the BootCamp "Installation and Storage" forum at http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=237 where the "specialists" in this sort of matter hang out.
Post a link to this thread over there as well, so that people will know what has already been suggested.
