ITunes does not automatically sync to iPod

When I connect my iPhone4 or iPod Classic to my mac, they will not automatically open iTunes and sync.  The iPhone automatically syncs with iPhoto only.  I have tried resetting my ipod and iphone and reselecting automatically sync iphone from the iphone screen in iTunes.  I have also repaired permissions with no change.
What else have I missed to make these things auto-sync again.
(Running the latest iTunes and iPhone software)

Hello pib1617,
iTunes Match can be enabled on your iPod Touch via Settings -> iTunes & App Store.
Turn on iTunes Match. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. Sign in if you haven’t already.

  • ITunes does not automatically sync when iPhone is connected

I upgraded to an iPhone 3g and I am unable to select the "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" option. It is greyed out in the iPhone Summary Tab in iTunes. I would like to automatically sync when I connect the iphone to my mac. How can I get this option available to me?

At the iTunes menu bar, go to iTunes > Preferences.
Under the Devices tab, is "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" selected?

  • I had to reinstall itunes and now when I plug in my ipod itunes does not automatically come up so I can log in, how do I fix this?

I had to reinstall itunes and now when I plug in my ipod itunes does not automatically open to my library or where I can access the itunes store.  What do I do now?

Open iTunes and connect your iPod. Select your iPod in iTunes from the Source list. (I'm assuming this still works, although you didn't indicate if it did or didn't.) Make sure the box is checked to Open iTunes when this device is connected. You should be all set!

  • ITunes does not automaticly start on connecting iPhone.

As above really, when i connect my iPhone 3G iTunes does not automaticly come up and sync the phone like it used to.
I now have to connect the iPhone and them click on iTunes.
Any ideas how to change this back, i've checked the iPhone settings in iTunes and 'Automaticlly sync when this iPhone is connected' is ticked.

If you go into itunes preferences, click on devices - make sure that the disable automatic syncing for iphones and ipods is not ticked.

  • Artwork does not *automatically* copy to iPod classic

We have 3 ipods in our hosuehold, one classic photo, one 3rd generation photo, and a nano from the latest generation.
    All are managed manually.
On the older 2, artwork does not automatically copy across from itunes to the ipod when songs are added. Instead, I have to select each song or album on the itunes library, manually copy the artwork, and then paste it into the iPod. while not crippling, it is certainly annoying.
The nano does not seem to have this problem.
ANybody else have this problem, and is there a way around it?
Of course I have "display artwork" enabled on all ipods, and the software is up to date, on all ipods and on the mac.

I don't manually manage, so my apologies for not being really familiar with it. But my question is, have you noticed that the addition of artwork depends on if the artwork was there from the beginning or not?
In other words, I wonder if when put in a new CD, tracklisting is looked up, you import and artwork gets automatically added. You then drag and drop those tracks to your iPods. Does the artwork show up on the iPod or do you have to do a secondary addition of the artwork?
Versus, if you already had the songs on your iPod, then LATER added artwork to the tracks in itunes, I could see where unless you resynced the songs to the manually managed iPods, that the artwork wouldn't go onto the iPod automatically and would have to be manually added.
I mention this because your Nano is the newest one and I am wondering if the issue is that you have stuff on the older iPods from back before artwork was added to your library. You are now adding artwork, but the songs on the old iPods still have older versions without artwork. The Nano, being brand new, you are probably adding tracks that have since had artwork added and so it maybe seems like it is being automatically added to that iPod and not the others when maybe you just need to re-sync the same tracks to the others?
Again, just some random streams of thought and guessing.

  • Itunes does not recignize 5th generation ipod touch

itunes does not recognize ipod touch 5th generation. It shows up as a camera under my computer.

I had the same problem. My new ipod touch 5th generation was not recognized by iTunes.  I checked the Apple Support solutions and the first step they recommended was to update iTunes to the latest version.  I did just that it now it all works beautifully.  I am using Windows 7.

  • Most recent version of iTunes does not recognize my video iPod, what to do?

I have a video iPod that I got last year and had it synced to my Windows XP on my desktop and I had recently synced it with my Macbook and had no problems with videos, pictures, movies, etc. I got a new iPod nano red and went to put music in it, but I had to download the latest version of iTunes. Just a few days ago I was able to still use both iPods on my MacBook. I just tried to put new videos on my video iPod and I get an error message saying: "the video was not copied, because this device does not support this file." I tried to authorize this computer, that didn't work. I tried converting the selected video, but I get an error(-50). I don't know what to do, any ideas? I appreciate anyone's help. THANKS!

Kevin .... I'm with you. I have the same problem. iTunes 9.0 / Windows 7 ... how we actually talk to someone at Apple to get a fix? I got a brand new $800 windows cpu ... that is a brick when it comes to iTunes. If anybody can help us, please let us know.

    Hello Dennis,
I would start with this article, even though it may not seem entirely applicable. It contains some of the basic troubleshooting steps for this situation. Make sure to work through each and every section as needed.
[iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac desktop|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410]
Otherwise, take a look at this article as well if need be.
[iPod does not appear in iTunes or iPod updater in Mac OS X|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1461]
Another solution may be to Reformat the iPod. For instructions on how to do this, see this article.

Hope this helps you get started.

  • New computer - itunes will not automatically sync

I just got a new vista notebook. I copied my iTunes library from my xp notebook to my vista machine, using the instructions found on the apple support site. On my vista machine, when I open iTunes I can see my complete library, but when I uncheck items, they don't automatically sync with my Ipod. If I go to the ipod under Devices and click Synch, it will do it, but I want it to do it automatically like it used to.
BTW, I have "Only sych check items" checked and "Manually manage music and video" and "enable disk use" unchecked.
Please help -- I'm super frustrated!
    Thanks!!

Try restoring your iPod. Just be aware that restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
