ITunes does not detect iPhones/iPods - tried everything

Okay, so 2 months ago I got my new Macbook Pro 17". iTunes wouldn't detect my iphone or any other iphone. I tried everything suggested on these forums (hopefully not true), but couldn't get it to work. I gave up and was hoping some sort of itunes update would solve it. Well itunes has been updated and even the OS has been updated to Snow Leopard. It didn't help
I am willing to try anything you suggest, so please keep them coming. Really want to get this sorted now.

Great to hear you have resolved the problem. I am running Tiger 10.4.7 not your 10.6.1 which I beleive is Leopard which I cannot update to as my computer is not suitable. Have you heard if anyone with my OS version has had success. I have tried removing iTunes v9 and then downloading v8.2.1, however I am still unable to gat iTunes to open when I connect my iPhone and iTunes does not acknowledge the connection in the side bar.
Suggestions please.

  • ITunes does not detect my ipod

    Much to my chagrin I made the mistake of upgrading Windows Vista to Windows 7. Then I d/l the latest version of iTunes and now iTunes can not detect my iPod. I receive the message "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install iPod's software."
    I have completely unistalled iTunes numerous times and then ran into issues attempting to reinstall. I attempted to change the registry key which did not work so had to install Windows 7 again to fix issues.
    When I run the iTunes diagnostics it tells me I have 2 issues:
    1. iTunes Helper is not running
    2. No iPhone or iPod found
    I have attempted all the suggestions that come up in the help section for "iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes". I am hoping that someone out there can help me. I am going insane trying to fix this issue and am cursing myself for jumping on the Windows 7 bandwagon. At least I had all the Windows Vista issues figured out and my computer actually worked.

    Does anyone have any ideas????

    I tried all the help Apple told me to do. I reset my iPod(didn't work) and then I downloaded the newest version of iTunes. That didn't work either. My iTunes still does not detect my iPod. The newly downloaded iTunes was at least supposed to tell me that my iPod was "corrupted" but it didn't. So... I'm not sure that it is. But that is the only reason Apple tells you could cause this. So yeah, I'm pretty lost right now! Does anybody know anything to help(by the way, I own a 5th generation iPod nano)? Thanks

  • ITunes does not detect iPhone - ON A MAC

    I have seen many posts on this topic, but the ones I read were all on PCs. I am running a Mac.
    • 1GHz PowerPC G4
    • 768 MB DDR SDRAM
    • iTunes 7.4.2 (4)
    • All updates on iPhone
    iTunes does not recognize the iPhone. I have to keep restarting iTunes and reconnecting the iPhone approx. 4-5 times before it picks it up.....
    Any ideas?

    It looks like your computer is USB 1.1 only. Your Multi-Function Printer (MFP) is USB 2.0, but running at USB 1.1 speeds (Up to 12Mb/sec). There is also the potential something to do with the printer or printer software could be interfering as well. Have you tried connecting the iPhone with the printer disconnected?
    USB 1.1 may work, but its not supported, and issues like you are describing can occur with USB 1.1.

  • My ipod will not sync with itunes.  The computer says its there but itunes does not.  I've tried everything suggested.  I keep getting an error message at the very end.

    When iTunes does install, my ipod still won't sync because it's the wrong version.  I've tried doing the version it suggests and still nothing.

  • My Computer/iTunes does not detect my iPod -- week long problem

    I have been trying so many different things. the 5 R's. Reinstalling USB Mass storage device driver. Tried the C:\Windows\INF directory for updating the driver for the iPod under device manager. Reinstalled iTunes, and iPod (from disc) many times. Any solution I could find i tried, but nothing worked. I know the usb cable is not the problem.

    I really don't believe in Vista that you would need a driver that is from a disk. The latest drivers are installed in Windows and it should have recognized it without insertion of a disk. It may be that the driver on the disk is the one causing the conflict for the device. It may be something older that is causing a conflict in Vista. I've not tried to connect my iPod to my laptop (the only machine I have with Vista), but I do have iTues installed on it. I didn't have to insert a disk with my XP machine when I got my iPod.
    You said the iPod shows up in device manager. Since you say you tried to reinstall the USB driver, you must have uninstalled the iPod in device manager? If not, you might want to connect the iPod, and then go into device manager and remove it. Let it try and recognize the new device. Do you get an error when it recognizes the new hardware, saying it won't work properly? Let me know and I'll try and work further.

  • Desktop software v5 does not detect BB 8330, tried everything...

    Hi! I an absolutely new to the forum and seeking some help to troubleshoot my Desktop to BB connection.
    I've had it working on my Desktop (XP Pro 2002, SP2) with DM 5.0 + BB (8330) w version 4.5.0.160 (platform 3.4.0.41)
    A few days ago, out of the blue, the DM stopped recognizing BB when I connect the USB cable. It only displays "Device Connected (PIN): none"
    There is no USB detected for a Blackberry under device manager
    There are 2 RIM COM ports open under device manager.
    I already tried:
    1. unistalling (clean, including registries, everything as per instructions), and re-installing: no-effect
    2. Turning the energy control on USB ports to disable power saving: no-effect
    3. Hard resetting the BB (about a 1000 times...): no effect
    4. There is no Lacie software running, so couldn't be this issue
    5. tried 3 different cables: no effect
    6. I also tried changing theCOM port settings to one of the suggested settings that asked for mark parity (default was none) and Xon/Xoff control (default was none)
    7 tried to connect to my laptop: no effect - therefore the problem seems to be on the BB, but I don't know what to do.
    Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks in advance for any input!

    Looks like you have covered pretty much everything I would have suggested. Nice troubleshooting I might add.
    If it stopped working out of the blue and it fails to detect on two separate systems with different cables, chances are there is a failure with the device itself. At this stage you may want to contact your point of sale for replacement options.

    - I would start with
    Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or               
    Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

    Are you running the most recent version of iTunes for Windows on your PC?  You may be running an older version that is incompatible with the 4s.
